This was my first time buying something from an auction house. Witherells is great, very easy to work with and very professional. When it comes to answering emails they are one of the best I have ever dealt with from any company, they respond to you ASAP with the answer you are looking for. I will definitely buy from them again in the future.
I needed to sell a number of paintings from an estate. By the standards of the art world, the paintings were not worth a great deal of money, maybe a few thousand dollars. Staff was very courteous and professional in dealing with me and in assessing the worth of the art. They explained how they arrived at their estimates and gave me a realistic idea of what I could expect at auction. I would definitely use Witherells again.
My experience of getting an evaluation was great! My item was treated with respect and in addition to learning of a possible monetary value, I became much more educated about the piece and how it fit into the antiquesmarket today. I would recommend this free and very valuable serviceto anyone interested in the story and value behind an object.
As a recent visitor to Witherells I was thoroughly impressed with the knowledge and professionalism of those who helped me: Brian W. (owner), Steven C. (military expert) and Megan B. (manager). I highly recommend Witherells if you are seeking to learn more about your artifacts. Additionally, they were very informative about the buying/selling process.
The staff was very courteous and knowledgeable. The facility was attractive and welcoming. Transactions were done in a timely and professional manner.
Best auction house ever! I made so much money on a necklace that I could have never sold on my own. Great service and a happy environment!
I went for an appraisal. He wasnt knowledgeable with what I brought him and said he didnt think it was as old as I said because he had never seen one like it, even though that was confirmed by large auction house prior to me going there and again on pawn stars yesterday. I think they are more knowledgeable with things they want to consign at their auction like artwork, furniture, silver pieces.
BUYER’S PREMIUMThis auction house charges you a “Buyer’s Premium”, as if it is somehow a great privilege that you are allowed to buy from them. Just think about it. Would you go into any other business and pay this. Go into any major or minor retailer. Pick say $1000.00 in merchandise. You get your sales slip and they want $1250.00 plus any applicable taxes. You show them the mistake and they tell you it is a “Buyer’s Premium”. Would you pay it? Why pay it here? The hammer price is the same as the price in a retail shop. Why are you paying more? The bidder has $1,000.00 to spend on an item you have consigned and must take into consideration the buyers premium. Say that premium is 20% that means on the $1,000.00 dollar item there is only $834.00 to spend before the rest is eaten away by the premium. The higher the premium the less the bidder has before the rest is eaten away by the premium.Just something to think about.
We bought a fabulous piece from an auction! Definitely a positive experience.
Great Tuesday evaluation! I learned my painting was worth so much more than I thought
I met with Brian and he was absolutely fantastic. He was very knowledgeable when it came to my consignment and I’m looking forward to the upcoming auction in May.
Its a beautiful building
My wife and I went to one of the evaluation days and it was an absolute waste of time. This Witherell guy was very unprofessional and his so called assistant, an older woman, had no idea what she was talking about. I brought in a couple of items and Witherell and his assistant immediately started looking them up online. They had no knowledge of what my items were worth and completely relied on other websites to give them some idea. I dont know why PBS invites him onto Antiques Roadshow. If all I had to do was look on the computer for an evaluation, I could have done this myself at home. If youre looking for an appraisal, I would go elsewhere.
Great service! I came in for an evaluation and learned so much about my piece!
Easy to find, professional appraisers. Safe neighborhood.
As a buyer, I was really turned off by the hidden charges. Wont ever use them again.
Will be doing plenty of business investing in the future. :)
