This was both my husband and myself’s first time ever car shopping. Luis did an excellent job of explaining everything we needed to know about leasing versus buying. The whole process is a bit overwhelming but Luis was patient and answered all of our questions without pressuring us to make a decision. He let us test drive the cars more than once and explained the different features between them. Even though we had been there all day, when we finally picked one – he took the time to show us the ins and outs of the car. We are so incredibly happy with the car we picked and our decision to lease. I would definitely recommend anyone in the market for a Subaru to talk to Luis!

Friendly staff and well maintained vehicles in their pre-owned section. Easy to work with and have down to earth employees.Car shortage has hit most major companies like Subaru and Ford in general really hard though inventory wise, so keep that in mind when car shopping. They dont have insane markups which is nice! But supply < demand in this market.

This review is for the service department. They are fantastic! I have the maintenance plan with my car, and there have been no issues with scheduling whatsoever. They are just so nice when you get there, and even when working with other customers who are asking for something unreasonable.My favorite part? They are dog friendly. As in, you can take your dog in the waiting area, and they will come say hi if they have a minute to do so. I love going somewhere my dog is not only allowed, but welcomed. It makes a huge difference, and I greatly appreciate it.

Ciara Sloan was fantastic and made my car-buying experience run so smoothly! She explained every step of the process and even got my car to me earlier than projected. She very patiently explained all of the new gadgets and really took her time making sure I knew what I was doing. The entire staff is so friendly and the managers (shout out to Chris Ahart!) were helpful and checked in regularly, ensuring I got an extremely fair deal. We purchased our 2017 brand new from Southern States Subaru and have taken it in for scheduled service since our purchase. We took it in last week for two recalls, a NC inspection and the 40,000 mile maintenance - the service rep provided us with a loaner car since they said it would take all day. When we signed for the car he said it had a full tank of gas and we should bring it back with a full tank. We drove it home and then back the next day (7.5 miles each way for 15 miles total). When returning the car we stopped at the gas station nearest the dealership to top off the tank - it took THREE GALLONS to fill it up, obviously the tank was not full when given to use the day before.The service department charged us $126.00 for an inspection and oil change. When I mentioned to CHUCK, our service rep, that the loaner car gas tank had not been full as we were told he was very snarky and a bit adversarial. Chuck stated, I didn’t tell you that - possibly he didn’t but the guy that gave us the car did and as a customer it really didn’t care what individual had told me - they all should be representing Southern States. Chuck tried to turn into a pissing match and then started joking around - he never offered an apology or accommodation. Chuck just acted like a jerk and as a customer it made me uncomfortable and upset.A couple days later I received an automated survey call from Southern States Subaru basically asking if I was satisfied with my service experience - I said NO. Based on my response it allowed me to leave a recorded response and I did describing our treatment by Chuck. It end with a message stating that a manager would be in touch, I have not been contacted to date.Based on this treatment, and I have read other bad reviews of experiences with Chuck, we will not be taking our car back to this dealership for any further service and I would not recommend it to anyone else either! It’s not the $5 but the sorry attitude and poor communication.

We just leased our 2nd Forester with Southern States at the end of our prior lease.. Both experiences were outstanding. We love Donnie who was personable, knowledgeable, caring, straightforward and straight-shooter, and funny - the right mix for us of promoting while easy-going. The rest of the staff in both cases was also friendly and helpful. There is a nice atmosphere here among the staff and toward customers. The first time 3 years ago we were definitely shoppers - never owning a Subaru - and comparing brands, This time we knew exactly what we wanted to do. Both times our experience was equally outstanding, Donnie and the staff adjusting accordingly with the same underlying spirit and professionalusm.. We also love our Forester.

I had a great experience at this dealership, Ive been looking to for a car for a few months, but nothing seemed to be working for me. However at this dealership I had great service! The salesmen I worked with was ciara, she was so helpful, I explained what I felt I needed since my family is expanding. She was very attentive and actually listened! I will NEVER get my Subaru serviced here ever again. I’ve been unfortunately stuck with Chuck in the service department both times I’ve come to this location to service my Forester. Both times he’s been rude and talked down to me, treating me like I know nothing about cars, presumably because I’m a younger female. The first time I brought my car in, they broke my speed sensor while changing my wheel bearing and had to keep my car for 4 extra days, in which they refused to give me a rental car despite it being their mistake. When I asked how I was supposed to get to work he basically told me I was out of luck and that I need to make a rental booking a week in advance. I was not expecting them to break my car during my appointment so how could this have been possible? I gave them another chance to do a maintenance check, and when putting in an appointment for a 25k mile $100 package, which was entirely outlined online and in my appointment confirmation, I was charged 4x the amount at pickup. When I tried to explain that was NOT what I had asked for, he talked down to me and tried to blame the entire situation on me. This was AFTER he treated me like I knew nothing about cars or what I was asking for to begin with, which was really disrespectful in itself. Not to mention while I was upset and trying to understand how I could be quoted something a quarter of what my bill ended up, he refused to respond to me and talked over me to my boyfriend like I wasn’t there, telling him I had no idea what I was talking about. 2/2 times I’ve come here I’ve been screwed over and not comped for any of it. I’ll drive 50 miles away for my next Subaru dealer if it means I don’t have to do business here again.

Beware.I had an appointment on Friday Jan 22, and my service advisor was Chuck Vasquez. I had a routine 6k maintenance schedule for 4pm. I ended up waiting an hour and 45 minutes until I came out of an empty waiting room asking how much longer it would be to get this process complete. He immediately went back to check on my car and see the current status. He came back and said it would be about 15 more minutes due to a software update. He then came back into the waiting room to see me about 15 minutes later confirming my outback was ready to go. He immediately mentioned this one is on us (as I had been there for 2 hours) and handed over the keys and said your car is right outside. I had then went to my car and left, as it was a long time waiting there.Later that night after I left, I thought that I should have gotten a receipt and copy saying what had been done to the car as well as what was completed on the car service. So I called the next morning at 10:15am (when they open at 9am) that I would like an itemized receipt emailed to me stating what had been done, and that I did not receive one when I left.I was then on the phone transferred to Chuck Vasquez, and he mentioned to bring my outback back into the shop to ensure everything was done as expected. I then came back, and showed my displeasure with him as he mentioned the night before the work was properly complete with my car. Jeremy (his manager) happened to be out that day. About 45 minutes - 1 hour later my car had been serviced.Essentially, NOTHING had happened to my car during my appointment on Friday January 22, where I waited 2 hours for. Chuck Vasquez told me I was all good to go and said it was on them due to the wait time, so I didnt have to pay anything.The next morning, when I called for a receipt as after I left and noticed my tires psi were not equal, my last time until oil change was not reset, and I did not have a sticker in my car saying when I had my oil changed was there, I called because I was suspicious that anything had actually been done to my new outback purchased from this dealership.If I would not have called back to get a receipt, I could have been driving another 6k miles thinking my car was serviced at 6k miles, in turn ruining an engine to a new car.Chuck Vasquez was in the wrong in this scenario. Beware.

Chuck V. was great to work with and just a very pleasant person overall. When I brought in my Subaru to have the faulty passenger airbags replaced, he and his guys noticed the previous owner of the car did something very odd to the bushings under the gear stick. He ordered the part and replaced it free of charge, and I was able to pick up my car the day after I dropped it off. Thank you again!

Take everything youve ever heard about having your work done at the dealership and throw it out the window. Southern States is the greatest ever, Chuck and Mario are the best service advisors ever, Leon in parts is wonderful, everyone here is terrific. The prices are on par with any 3rd party mechanic you could go to and in some cases theyre lower, plus youre getting OEM Subaru parts with work done by trained, certified Subaru techs. I bought my Crosstrek at a dealership in Greensboro, then moved to Raleigh and I have everything done here, even oil changes. The treatment and service Ive gotten here over the years even led us to buy my wife a new 2021 Forester here and I tell everyone, Subaru owners or not, how amazing these guys are any time the subject of cars or mechanics comes up. There sincerely isnt enough praise possible for me to give them. Thank you, guys. Im sure youll see this and you know how much youve done for me. This is to publicly thank you once again. First negative experience trying to buy a vehicle in my over 40 years of life, guess I got lucky and had it coming. My wife and I wanted an outback for our more active life we have now. We went in with all our papers and an approved loan from our bank for 10 grand over the cost of an outback. The rates for our bank were significantly better than Subaru direct.First, they refused to tell me the value of my trade in until numbers time. Second, the guy was juggling like 2 other sets of people, even though we came there first and had an appointment. Second, we had to tell this guy we wanted to buy the car so many times its embarrassing. It really felt like he didnt want to sell a car. Third, the manager or owner or whatever was coaching this salesman so loudly that I could hear it in the customer area. If you didnt know, they say some pretty amoral things behind closed doors about working customers over. Next, after we told him in no uncertain terms, practically having to wave a flippin flag, that we want to buy the car, he doesnt take our financing. Apparently, Subaru normally has the best rates so we dont work with other banks much. Well, 2% difference isnt even close pall. So he tells me to go home with some paper and tell my bank to send a check to us so we can bring it in or something. USAA doesnt work like this. Other dealerships work just fine with the dealership request form that USAA provides for sending the financed money. At this point Im determined not to buy a car so I say well go home to work it out with USAA, aka, go to another dealership with smarter people who want to sell cars. The dude has the audacity to try to get me to reserve a car for a fee. Unreal. On the way home he texts my wife several times to try to get her to come back and pay the reserve fee to hold the car.All the cars on the lot had some kind of nick or scratch, or scuff on them. The wilderness outback they had on the showroom floor had a massive scuff on the front right bumper. They really need to talk to their prep and shipping people because there was grease marks all over the doors from the prep guys and scratches on literally every outback on the lot. Inside and out.I gave it two stars because the place was clean and quiet. Well be going to the Subaru in Cary, and if that doesnt work, I guess well look at other brands :)

I have been looking for just the right Subaru for years and finally found someone who understood what I meant! I drive a Subaru Forester and knew I would only want another one, but this time I would not settle for color, but rather hold out for what I truly wanted. I sent in another request, and was blessed enough to have it answered by Patrick Dunn at Southern States Subaru. I explained what I wanted/needed and he went right to work (imagine my surprise when he kept me informed of what he was doing and what he had found!). At one point, I sincerely thought he would give up.....but not Patrick! Within a few more days he had MY future car at his dealership. Southern States Subaru has been my service group as long as I have been driving one of their cars because they KNOW my car (and never tried to scam me into getting service I didnt want or need) and I trust them! Patrick Dunn has become my Icing on the car search CAKE! He found the car and I bought it! You will catch me at this dealership twice a year or so as I allow them to pamper my new baby! Thanks for great service on my old car, Chuck (in service dept) but just wait until you see my new addition! I cannot thank Patrick Dunn enough for being persistent and not giving up on my dream car! I was misinformed on several features of the purchased vehicle. The sales agent stated the car had cooling seats and front camera which were not available options. The sales agent told me I was approved for a lower APR in order to get me to agree to their financing instead of using my bank. During signing of the paper work noticed they changed the agreed upon APR by a point. When questioning the sales person she blamed the sales manager. My extended warranty paper work had the wrong warranty marked, so this had to be corrected. My starlink account was activated by my sales person under wrong email, which caused delays and additional effort on my part to get it corrected and set-up. Sales agent was to email me updated paperwork for warranty and sent to wrong email address after confirming with her the correct email, it was still not sent to correct email. Overall, experience was poor and did not provide great customer experience or trust with dealership.

The service was excellent as usual and they got everything done earlier than expected. I was informed along the way of everything.The reason that they were given 3 stars instead of the 5 is because of safety and prevention of COVID-19 which is mainly a criticism of Subaru company not Southern States repair shop.As an infection disease clinician, I noticed that most of the staff were wearing neck gaiters with Subaru logo on them instead of wearing proper masks. It has been fully communicated in the media that neck gaiters provide zero protection from transmission of air droplets. They might as well be wearing nothing. An effective mask covering must be three-ply and no less! Therefore, I did not feel safe from your staff. I highly recommend this gets taken care of immediately before it gets reported to the North Carolina Department of health as not complying with North Carolina and CDC Covid infection prevention guidelines.Also, Even though you post that masks are required in your waiting room I noticed three people were not wearing masks and one person had the mask pull down only over their mouth. That is absolutely unacceptable especially in an indoor environment. I sat outside as a result. That will become more difficult when it’s raining and or colder weather. You need to be very vigilant and enforce mask wearing inside.

Curtis and Damien are to be commended for their superior customer service, technical knowledge, and professionalism. They greatly assisted us during a full car inspection of a used Subaru Forester that we had purchased elsewhere. They explained in detail all the issues that they discovered and what the repairs and costs would entail. Their honesty and professionalism is refreshing and truly appreciated. Curtis also assisted us with purchasing and reprogramming new keys for our older Subaru Legacy. He provided us with timely updates on when the keys would be arriving and promptly made an appointment for us when they arrived. We will definitely continue to use Southern States Subaru of Raleigh for our repair needs. We have also had such a great experience with the sales staff that we purchased two new Subaru Ascents from this dealership. The sales and service staff operate with integrity and professionalism.

Recently I finished up leasing a Crosstrek to purchase a Forester. My experience was phenomenal. This is especially true during the pandemic where my sales person was flexible to any of my concerns. Weve had great experiences here before and have sent family as well, but were a bit hesitant when our previous agent left.She returned our initial email and recommended Donnie Jackson, and I can happily recommend him, too.He was very respectful of what we were and were not looking for, and our price range.He was upfront about pricing- which I really appreciate. Ive had enough car sales people tell me oh well talk about that later. Not here. Donnie was VERY respectful of our time.He did not try to upsell us on things we were not interested in. We decided on Saturday morning to go and look at new Subarus with an eye to trading in my 2014 Outback for a new one. We drove an hour and a half to our nearest dealer, Southern States Subaru in Raleigh, after talking by phone to Donnie Jackson. He knew his stuff!! On the phone he told us what he had in stock and gave us all the information we needed and assured us he could help us. He was right! He was a welcoming, friendly person who knew the things a good salesman should know about the cars and company. I havent always been treated well by car salesmen as they often talk to my husband about the car but ignore me. Donnie was different and took care to make sure he answered all my questions etc. So our last day of the month deal worked for me and I drove away with a new Outback Touring!! He made it work and I recommend him highly.

My in-house experience is always very good at southern states. They are courteous, prompt and knowledgeable. Brett was very professional.My only reservation about a five star review, and I’ve expressed this in person, is the appointment process. When you call in, you make an appointment with a specific person (but it’s never really obvious that’s “the way” they do it until you go to change it) so if you need to cancel or change the appointment you have to reach that person (another service attendant won’t change it). It’s never been clear to me why they do this why they do this when from a customer service standpoint, making and changing the times should be quick and easy. Not always the case. Seems to me if I need to come have work done I should just be able to come in when there are ANY available times instead of times on that specific customer service persons book.

Online sale of a new Subaru Crosstrek. Knew exactly what I wanted and what was reasonable to pay and Amber with online sales was effecient and professional and we got deal down in a few emails without any car dealer hassles. Worked out deal, put down deposit, and agreed to come in and complete deal same day. Luis texted me before arrival to ask for him when I got there, nice touch. Got there and car was cleaned up (pollen season) and paperwork on his side all ready to go. Drove around parking lot and signed papers within 20 minutes. Then waited hour+ for finance guy to process transaction. It was towards end of day and I guess the subaru guy wasnt in so processed down at their Huyundia office. This is why 4 star not 5, we had this teed up and I think finance should have had this ready to go. Compliments to Luis for hanging with us, showing us other interesting cars, good conversation, and keeping us for stewing/walking out about the hour+ wait.

Always honest and friendly. I use to go to a different nearby dealership but a price comparison for a major repair identified a $1,000 price difference. Ive since priced out my repairs and Southern States is consistent with most places. The other dealership is consistently higher.

I stopped in yesterday because I needed help with my 2020 Outback. Primarily, I needed to know how to use the features. I purchased the car out of state and was sent away with no explanation on how to use it (other than putting it in drive).I walked in your store and was greeted by Patrick. I told him I purchased a car and needed to learn how to use it. Patrick came out and spent 30 minutes thoroughly going over the car with me. Wow! I had no clue my Outback was capable of doing what it can do.I left Southern States feeling more confident about my car and I have Patrick to thank for it. His customer service skills are on point! This is the 2nd Subaru car dealership I visited and obviously, we all know that buying a car isnt that easy that you would want to have a good deal from your hard-earned money. I highly recommend this dealership because they are pretty straightforward of what you get and allow and listen to what you can offer in a particular car that you are looking for. Also the dealer Shayan never asked me how much can you afford per month where I find this question so intimidating. So if youre looking for your next Subaru might as well go to the southern state and it was worth driving from Durham. If in case I have a friend who would want a Subaru ill will definitely mention this experience and this dealership.

I had taken my car there once before because the plastic shield under my car was loose and I also wanted an oil change. They couldnt find anything wrong with the plastic shield and therefore didnt do anything. I duct taped it and took it to AAA in Wake Forest who kindly put in a few missing bolts and it is now fixed.I then received a recall that I wanted to get fixed and had to take it back there. First of all they dont answer the phone and I got to, what felt like, someones cellphone. Jeremy did call me back 4 days later and I made an appointment. They held the car overnight since they had problem loosing a sensor. When they called me back the next day I was told I had a leaking head gasket, needed a new front timing cover and a cam carrier. This would be a very expensive fix, several thousand $$$.I thought it was strange since I had my car in for service just a few days earlier and kindly rejected their offer to fix, but I did have them write up what was wrong.Today I took the car back to AAA and they lifted it up and had a look, surprise, none of that needed fixing. There was a small leak in the oil pan but it was no urgency at all. So tired of being treated and lied to by this scam artists. I will never take my car back there.

I spoke to a guy named Chuck, after I explained the issues with my car, he said its $135, I have to pay him to look at it he pointed to Brent one of the tech. My response was ok, then he asked me twice are you sure and for the third time I said ok.Few hours later the same guy Chuck called to tell me his findings, he said your transmission broke so I asked specific questions and he refused to give me a specific answer. This is not my first time at southern states subaru but it was my first time with Chuck.

This is for Chuck in the maintenance/service department. He went above and beyond and was the best car experience I have had. He was honest, professional and efficient. He saved us from spending unnecessary money at pep boys and was able to fix the problem for less than half the price and more efficiently. He is the definition of perfect customer service. Fantastic experience with having the recalled Takata airbags replaced in our Outback recently. Mario and everyone in the service department were kind, caring, and professional. Very easy to book the appointment, and make changes online or via text, if necessary. The customer lounge was pleasant and clean. I wont hesitate to go back in the future if service is needed! I tried to have the recall fixed a year ago at Johnson Subaru of Cary as it should have been under warranty. Their mechanic said it wasnt covered because something was spilled on the seat which undid the warranty. Only to have the airbag sensor recalled several months later. As happy as I am with Southern States Subaru, this will be the only Subaru I will ever own after my experience with Johnson Subaru
