During an historic heatwave they were the only shop within 3 hours that had capacitors in stock and able to sell to the general public. Life savers! Thank you so much!!
The two guys working at the counter, very helpful very knowledgeable. Bill in particular thank you very much you are awesome I got my HVAC working again me my ladys brother. We have no experience with a furnace or HVAC we just took our time googled every last detail and got it done. Im not saying or recommending that everybody go do that unless you have the patience because it is dangerous. The funny thing is the HVAC company we have a contract with came out said that we got to get a new furnace $6,500 there was no way its going to work again 22 years old. Sometimes you got to do stuff yourself or you can get price gouge or lied to. I will be buying all my supplies for my home from this hardware store in the future no doubt.
Was panicking because my homes HVAC died a few days before a 110 degree weekend, needed a very specific part to get it fixed and no contractors could come out and fix it for weeks. Called up NorMon and they told me to swing in to show them a picture, they would either have it or would BUILD it for me on the spot (nobody else online or within 100 miles had it), they hooked me up and were SUPER nice while doing it.Lifesavers, thanks!!!
What can I say about this company, I don’t mind company’s making a profit. Yesterday bought a ER1409 N igniter $94.45 that’s with the 5% tariff added. So igniter price $89.95.Just do your research before you buy, could of bought two for the price I got charged.Other companies here in Portland for hvac parts. Gensco, Airefco, Johnson Air Products.
I had a faulty circuit board in my gas furnace. Took a picture of the panel, removed the sticker with the part number and had my partner go and purchase one for me. A little expensive in my opinion but then again they had the board in stock and it was a direct fit. My partner felt that she was talked down to a little bit and the employee was distrusting of the information I sent her in with. All in all okay place for DIY repair parts.
Patrick has the worst customer service. No help at all, bad attitude, no optionsDid not want my business .
Very good service and I got all my parts
They didnt have the part I needed but were able to look it up and refer me to a place that did.
I had an issue with my central air unit. Was in earlier today and bought one part and the counter man was very helpful. Unfortunately, it wasnt the part I needed and I came back to buy another part. The owner took the time to go over with me what it might be if this second part didnt work. Came home and it kicked in like a dream. My new favorite store. Besides the great service, this is an old school hardware store and they sell damn near EVERYTHING! Great job guys, thats how you earn a customer for life. Also, after reading some other reviews, I had to comment on the negative review by Will Morris. No company, and by no company I mean NO COMPANY, takes electrical items in return. First off, you cannot buy and return electrical items to troubleshoot your issues. Second, if you install it wrong and it blows and then you return it, they would need to test every item so that the next customer doesnt get screwed. Dont be such a baby. One of the parts I bought today turned out not to be the problem. Did I ask for a return? No, but because I know better but also because it was my process of elimination. Man up.
Very friendly and helpful staff, and they had what I needed. Was surprised how expensive my item was so I looked around the store and noticed many items priced significantly higher than I’d seen elsewhere. I needed my part now so I purchased it knowing I could have saved money if I’d have purchased it somewhere else.
Super friendly place. Needed a specific part for an old stove and the gentleman there took his time in explaining to me how to install it properly and Saved me a few hundred dollars in the process as well because I was planning on replacing the entire elements for the stove. In this fast paced modern era we live in its always nice to have someone take their time with their customers to make sure they leave feeling confident in how to assemble the product that they are buying. Speaks volumes on real customer service.
After being told you cant get that part anymore by several other distributors in town, these folks were able to locate a door seal for my two-decade old dryer. Was the part cheap? No. Did their service and diligence save me from having to buy a brand new dryer when all I needed as an easy-to-replace, do-it-yourself part? Yes.They are definitely a step above their competition.
I saved just shy of $1,000 by purchasing the parts needed to fix my home A/C system through Nor-Mon and installing them myself after a repair man charged $178 to come take a cover off the unit, eyeball a couple of things and then hand me a $1200 estimate for repairs. Nor-Mon had the parts in stock, the staff were extremely personable and knowledgable in every customer interaction I witnessed as well as mine. Thank you so much!
I was unable to get to Nor-Mon before close on Saturday because a few parts in my Whirlpool dryer were difficult to pry loose. Norman said he would wait until I arrived, shortly after 3 pm. He took time to make sure I had all the parts I needed to fix my dryer. I handed him a bag of damaged parts and the model number. He looked up each part to ensure it was the correct part. He even went outside to look at the front drum seal (had the front of the dryer in my vehicle). He did not rush even though it was after closing. He was very professional and courteous. Ive never had a bad experience when purchasing appliance parts at Nor-Mon Distributing. Thanks, Norman!!
Sold me a transformer replacement for my oil burner that is not the correct match. The housing, hinge placement, and mount are all wrong. After hearing him being very audible that all electrical items are non-refundable! with another customer before me after she inquired if she could return a light bulb I should have left then. After reading several on line reviews and researching his strict (non) return policy. I realized that there was no point in asking for a refund. Despite the fact that he told me what part I needed, It was an electrical item (strike 1), it was a special order item (strike 2), the box that it came in was opened (strike 3). First and last time I will step foot in this store. I am a contractor and spend quite a bit at hardware stores around the Portland area. I felt like this guy would sell you Morrison Bridge if he saw the opportunity. Its pretty obvious they/he banks his sales on desperate customers looking for seasonal appliance parts with 100 to 300% markup. Its a real shame and I feel took so he will not be getting any of my business. Nice looking tools and gadgets hanging all around. Ill give him that. A real impulse buyers fantasy. I especially like the gold plated vice grip for almost $200. Thats just classy.
My furnace was down and I needed a part, the technician said would be 340$. I new it was crazy over price so checked a round and these guy’s had some. I took my part in and they gave me a part they said would work, not OEM. I asked at the back counter the cost and was told $48.00. He said come up front and I’ll ring you up. He rung me up alright at $78.00. When I said to him didn’t you just tell me $48.00 he just said this is more expensive. I call BS, but bottom line I needed the part and it certainly was less than $340. Googled the part when I got home and sure enough it is a 30$- 50$ part online. Just be carefull if you go there they will juke u if they can. Probably raised the price because I told him what the contractor wanted, again my bad.
THEY WERE THE BEST!!! My air conditioner had a burned out capacitor and it was 90+ in our home. Service company wanted $400 to come and do the repair and the wait was nine days. Was referred to Nor-Mon by another distributor. They were out of the capacitor I needed but the owner actually built one for me using two of them wired together and didnt charge me any extra for doing it. $35 was comparable to on-line and I GOT IT TODAY instead of having to wait up to seven days for shipping. Even gave my two kids lollipops while I waited. STRONGLY RECOMMEND!
My blower motor in my HVAC died on a Saturday morning. I was able to remove the motor and get the correct numbers, etc. Called Norman at Nor-Mon/Ankeny Hardware and he was very busy. Normally, I would just head down there but being 90 miles away, that wasnt the best option. He took the time to get my info, gave me his email address so I could send him a couple of pictures, etc. He told me he had one in stock that would work but not the exact one, so we headed down. As it turns out it wasnt a 100% correct, but he took the time to explain it to me, what needed to be done to make it work, etc. Good guy, good store, I would recommend and since I do all of my own appliance repairs, I will keep this place on speed dial.
I have nothing but good to say about Nor-Mon. 104 degrees and my air conditioner was broken. Yes, I did have to wait in line, but I was amazed at the patience, professionalism, and courtesy that was given. One person needed a special order part that would be 10 days out, and Norman made the part for him with components he had in stock. With my part, Norman got on the phone, located it, and had it for me by days end. He then instructed me on how to install it. I highly recommend Nor-Mon. Yes, I had to wait in line with all the other unfortunates whose AC was broken, but it was well worth it.
Great place, they carry everything you cannot find anywhere else.
Always helpful and very knowledgeable. Ive fixed quite a few appliances over the years thanks to their input.
Watch out for sneaky all sales final language. Purchased a portable AC unit and less than an hour later I decided it was not the right unit. Store associate then told me this item could not be returned at all. They operate legally (displaying a sign in the store, scribbling in on the receipt) but the associate never verbally disclosed this when I was making the purchase. Seems like something important to tell a customer before shoving the receipt in front of them to sign. There is a reason consumers choose to do business at retailers like Lowes or Home Depot which have 30 day return policies on such items unopened. If a consumer changes their mind or no longer needs the product they can return it full a refund unopened within 30 days. Consumers shopping at Nor-Mon are stuck with the product. Nor-Mon chooses to operate at a competitive and ethical disadvantage and has left a sour taste in my mouth. I wont be stopping by this local retailer ever again and I would suggest consumers be well aware of their outdated and unprofessional policies and practices.
Offered to stay come back to shop later so I could pick up my part for my business! Thank you so much!
If you absolutely MUST have an item now and theyve got it - well then swallow your pride (or whatever that is) open your wallet and put up with the fake sincerity of the proprietor of this place. Just know that you will pay triple what you could pay elsewhere and youll be unable to return what you bought (unopened) because thats just how this place operates and hell send you out like youre his best friend but you and he both know that he just charged you way more than it was worth - but he didnt hold a gun to your head. You paid and it was your choice. I shop here about once every 4 years and its always in a pinch and the experience has always been the same. As a handyman, I do literally $12,000 to $25,000 / year at Home Depot or online annually (depending on the year). But I will travel extra miles to not spend my money here. When I do - I just tell myself its ok ... only when I really need. For the rare convenience, the extra cost is manageable.
Better bring. a model number cause otherwise they cant be bothered
Extremely helpful, did not sell me parts I did not need to repair my furnace
Called to see if they had a part in stock.I had the model number of my unit, the part number off the part....and the guy asked me for the reading off the part. When I was unable to find a reading that he could use, he did not even try any of my other info.....just said they had over a 1000 in stock, and bring it down.Only choice is to drive literally across town just to SEE if he had it in stock.I am going elsewhere, perhaps where they dont treat customers like a burden.
Called up and gave the person the part number that I needed for a Kenmore Dryer. Person said was wrong part as described on the internet and other dealers. Started arguing with me, inferring I was a dummy. I said thank you and disconnected. Guy says he does this all day every day. Well, hope he finally helps someone.
Forced to wait 1.5 hours to see if they have my part. Im in line and still waiting. But I do have lots of time to write this review. Inefficient doesnt come close to describe customer service. AVOID. SERIOUSLY.
In the middle of a bad August heat wave, I returned home to find the house at 85 degrees and a non-spinning fan on the A/C condenser unit. I rang around trying to find replacement parts in-stock and in town at 4pm on a Friday evening, but found most HVAC distributors are wholesale only. One person suggested I call Nor-Mon distributing, and sure enough they had replacement motors onsite and would sell to DIY-ers. We drove down to the store with the old fan motor, but turns out we needed info on the capacitor as well (which I didnt have). The store proprietor, Norman, couldnt have been more helpful. He stayed late while we drove in rush hour traffic back home to get the capacitor, then back to his store. At the end of all this, we got the A/C repaired with parts and good advice from Ankeny Hardware (Nor-Mon Distributing).
By far the worst company to deal with locally !!!. You are better off just buying it online somewhere. Just plain rude people that tell you you have 60 people ahead of you and Ill have to put you on hold for 60 minutes. (how about were nut busy....let me have you phone I will call you in an hour). Seriously, this is alocal business, and I like supporting my local businesses, but this one can go jump off a perfectly good cliff. This local business sucks !!!Visited the store to located a HVAC part. Waited a counter for more then 15 minutes while customer service bull shitted with another customer about who makes want brand and even the manufacture contract companies to supply parts. Who cares.....its all made in china, good & bad. Then customer service pasted right by me to help another customer who just walked into the store, they paid and left. Then a second customer service person said that fellow is next. My part was in stock except my Titan Pro TRCFD505 AC Capacitor sells for $5.95, $13.95 and $38.95 respectively online. Nor-Mon wants $48...says theyre the only one who have it in stock and sells 40 of them per day (sure !).Not true, I know of two stores that have stock on the item in the $30 range. I know of one supplier (actually Packard Titan Pro dealer) who will ship it to me next day air for $16 + $13.95 (still less then) $48. Wow, Ive never been treated this bad at any store. A serious looooser store with sorry customer service. Want a see it go out of business !!!!!.
They helped me get the parts to fix my furnace, and made sure I could get them after work so I wouldnt have to wait another day to have heat.
Great guys. They helped me fix my furnace.
Great service. Brought in furnace part, they matched part numbers, double checked it and I was on my way.
Argumentative staff and they do not stand by their products. Defective new part was not replaced by them.
Kind and honest staff - had exactly the part that I needed for $10 when a service call would have cost hundreds.Shop here, shop local.
Terrible customer service. You can see this by the responses the owner gives to reviews below. Its not personal, it just business.
Terrible customer services......expensive place i rather order tru... e..bay ..
