Shelly gave me a fantastic hair cut and an extremely relaxing shave. She took the time to look me over and give me the best cut to fit my look and head shape. You can really tell she has a vision and she executed it perfectly.This was also my first professional shave and I loved it. Its very relaxing. Shelly even took the time to get the tiny hairs under my nose. I will be going back again.

Im really grateful to have found Bill Boley and was glad to follow Shelly and Bill to the new shop. If youre particular about your style and your haircut requires old school technical skill and experience, Bill is your guy. He is immensely talented. Ive had a lot of trouble finding a barber in Portland who can cut a taper---I like a 1930s-style long on top, short back and sides, which is a difficult style for modern barbers. Bill is probably the most perceptive pro Ive worked with. He noticed things about my hair before I even had a chance to point them out. Its always a pleasure to go to Refuge and have confidence that Im in good hands.

Ok.... so I have been getting my hair cut at Rooks for the past 3 years. I was happy with the cuts that I was getting initially. But the place was getting more and more Goth and hard core. Lots of Tatoos etc. I also saw a barber yelling at a young kid. The one saving grace was my barber, Shelly. But then she left Rooks. Luckily I found out that she came here. Just had my first visit. Shelly definitely cuts my hair the best so I am glad that I found her. The place is a comfy section of a building near 36th and Broadway. The place has two large private parking lots. Parking was always an issue at the other place.So I highly recommend this place. Very friendly and professional Barbers!

I, like many PDX men, am very picky about how my hair and my beard look. When I dont have a barber who knows how to cut my hairs just right, it feels like there is something slightly off kilter about the my world. Ive tried Rooks, Modern Man, Bishops and Rudys but I have not been able to get a *consistently* good cut from any of those places. Refuge is comparably priced and its the best haircut I have ever had in pdx. Im so glad they exist!
