I have used Garys for over a decade and never have had a bad experience there. I have referred many friends and family, and now they are loyal customers also. Gary has probably the cheapest shop rate in town at $75/hr, its simply not worth my time to try and fix my own cars. Gary and Michelle are really great people... Very Highly recommended!

I had the clutch fork in my Subaru replaced. Only a week wait, then it took them only 1 day to do the work after I dropped the car off. Now my clutch feels great!

Such nice people! Gary and his wife Michelle run the garage and are super kind. They were very fast, but I was there first thing in the morning. I will definitely take my car back for other maintenance needs. They do only take cash or check-- which isnt a problem if you just know in advance.

At Advantage Electric, we dont let anyone other than Garys Auto Repair touch our vehicles.They do a great job at a very fair price! They are honest and upfront and they tell it like it is! So impressed with them and Budget Towing, as well. I used them when my personal vehicle had to be towed somewhere. My previous mechanic said could be a heater core,around $500, but he didnt have time to look at it until a couple of days later. Well, in the interim, my car seriously overheated and I had to have it towed to Garys. Gary, after hearing what the problem was, told me when the heater stops working or fluctuates, it usually means there is not enough coolant, and to stop driving or you will burn up your engine.Yep, my new personal mechanic, as well. And, Michelle and everyone there are so nice and helpful!!

He charged much less than the shop that I went to before. Dont get fooled by Garys loud voice, he is not rude, he is just not good at hearing.

Quality, honest guy. Took my car in after my last mechanic suggested I get an alternator put in for an obscure problem. Gary looked it over thoroughly and found it just to be a sender problem. This guy doesnt throw parts at a car if they dont need it, unlike most mechanics out there. Refreshing to work with a guy who doesnt just want to get money out of you, and great prices-- lowest I found for a rebuilt alternator after shopping around.

Took my Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser to Garys for valve cover gaskets. As far as I am concerned, they did an excellent job and even cleaned all the grease and oil from the valve covers before putting them back on plus a few extra things. Great job guys !!

Our car broke down late at night so we dropped it off here over night. We called and left a message that we would be there first thing in the morning. Even though our car was in the middle of Garys way they did not tow it and gave us a chance to come in. After Gary explained to us what we did threw off his whole day he was still polite and treated us right. He was able to let that go and fix our car promptly and correctly. I will bring my car here for the rest of my life from now on. I just will make sure to park it on the side of the building if I have to leave it over night.

I have taken my vehicle here a few times and had good results. I referred this shop to two friends as well who had work done. If you can get past the gruffness, you may do okay. Today was different...there is a limit to rudeness and Garys surpassed it today.

I made a scheduled appointment, when I got to the shop it was closed! No phone call to say they needed to reschedule, nothing. This is bad customer service in my opinion. I decided to use them because of all the good reviews but now Im not sure I want to give them a second chance...

Gary’s was great when I brought my Jeep in for a busted starter. They were done in three hours and the price was fair!

We have been using Garys for over 10 years. They always complete the work they say they are going to do and never try to sell you something you dont need. Gary and his wife are very honest and run a great family business.

Was pretty desperate. Made an appointment. After the appointment was made it was impossible to get ahold of them to confirm. After calling several times I finally got ahold of them the day of the scheduled repair time. I could hear gary yelling in the background “why didn’t he call yesterday”. When I showed up Gary was extremely gruff, and condescending as if my experience with the vehicle meant nothing, and he was going to figure out exactly what was wrong by looking at it and nothing I could say was going to change how he came to any conclusions about my car. Eventually after dealing with his very gruff know it all demenor for 30 minuets of which I was allowed to speak only 2 minutes of, he explained that someone just put the distributor in wrong. Which was me, and I knew that wasn’t the only problem and explained that too him several times. I made it very clear that it was not running well before the distributor was out of it, and it was going to need other repairs, and I wanted a diagnostic. He reassured me that for $60 I would know what was wrong with my car. After about an hour I received call from the very nice lady who works in the office and they tell me the car is fixed. Wow. Excited, elated, and filled with joy I come skipping down the road to Gary’s, walking distance from my house, with dreams of being able to use my jeep again. Wrong. After being totally ignored by gary when I showed up, and him telling me to go pay at the office I happily gave them $95. Then we go try and start the car. Just revs and doesn’t start. Exactly how I left it. Then Gary explains to me after fiddling with the fuel pump relay, pulling it in and out, and finally getting it running that he has “no idea” whats wrong with it. He took no responsibility for my dire situation which he originally reassured me he could find some sort of answer. Charged me $35 more then he quoted. Took the easy 15 minute fix to get the distributor top dead center, if that even took any work at all, and charged me for 1.5 hours work. Then refusing to dig any deeper to maybe try and figure something out he washes his hands and leaves me with a broken car. I’m sure based off of the other reviews here that he has the knowledge to at least explain to me what could potentially be wrong with it, or do some tests to figure out exactly what’s wrong with it. Instead he fixed nothing and shood me out the door as fast as he could so he could fix the trunk springs on a ford. I guess the moral is if you want the springs on your trunk fixed come to gary. If you want a real mechanic look elsewhere, because even though he has the knowledge he’s burnt out and is only interested in the easy jobs. He even had the audacity to complain about my car leaking oil in his garage. I thought a mechanics shop is where you’re supposed to take your car when it leaks oil? Or maybe you’re not a real Mechanic.

These people are great. I have taken my vehicle to them a couple of times and I trust them. Very kind, too.

Fixed my misaligned door, replaced a missing bolt, and checked why my service light was on, explaining what all I needed to do to fix it..all for FREE! Gary and Jacob were amazing, I will be back!

I have been hiring Gary for most of my auto repairs since he opened his shop on 91s ave. He has really gone way out of his to help fix my repair ills ! Once he fixed heater radiator in my Town Car after hours so I could make a trip to California ! Garys Auto is the first shop I can say I fully trust. I had just moved to portland (driving 4000 miles) and was having some bad luck with my car. Garys was sincere, honest, and straightforward throughout our time together, not to mention they saved me hundreds of dollars compared to a midas or other auto shop. Im happy to say Ive found an auto shop I will be returning to whenever I need some assistance with my car. I highly recommend them!
