During the hottest days of this summer when it hit 115, our AC could barely keep up-- and along with everyone else in town --our AC unit was on its last leg because the previous owners dog hair was in everything. We couldnt get a hold of several companies or they couldnt come out for several weeks, but The Heating Specialist responded.Danielle showed up the next night after hours to see what was going on -- and it turns out our AC and Furnace were near end of life. He put us on the list to have everything replaced, and ordered all the parts immediately. They kept us informed of the timeline on when to expect the new install and we were super lucky that it only took about 1.5 weeks since the temperature didnt drop below 85 for weeks.They were on time, professional with the install and clean-up, and provided us with a new system. They had everything with them and completed the install of the new AC, furnace, and thermostat all in one day. We wanted the super allergen filter but wasnt able to fit our existing system but they problem solved and was able to get us an air scrubber.Now we have a cool house, and clean air. My allergies have never been better. Its been a couple of months since they installed, and everything is working very well. We had near 100 degree days since and this new system keeps up with the temperature without any issues.HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend. They are professionals.

The Heating Specialist definitely deserve a 5 star review. I don’t normally share reviews but their professionalism and work deserve it! From the start our experience was awesome. Daniel came over and provided a thorough, low pressure consultation explaining all that would be required to install our AC. I signed a proposal that day. The next day, Janna from the office contacted me and explained everything. This was so welcoming and comforting to know they are working for us. Daniel and Jenna called me less then a week later to let me know the schedule. Soon after, Janna called and asked if if wanted an earlier install. YES! It was 113 degrees that day! Their team including an electrician showed up on time and completed the install in less than 6 hours. Super professional team and responsive to all our questions. They reviewed the whole system before leaving. Our house is now so cool! I would recommend this company to any of my friends and family.

Our AC quit on the evening of the hottest day so far this year, and I put in an after hours message. They called me back first thing in the morning and were able to get us on the scheduled for that evening, which was amazing given that all the other folks I spoke to were already booked into the next week. *Then* they were able to move up our scheduled appointment by approx 5 hours, which is a godsend when its 90 degrees. The specialist, Otto, was knowledgeable and easygoing and fixed our AC in 20 minutes. Will 100% be using them again in the future!

I woke up in the middle of the night extremely hot and realized our AC went out. This couldn’t have come at a worst time as we are experiencing record breaking heat in the Portland area. Today should reach temps above 110 degrees. With a infant in the house I went into panic mode calling anyone with emergency services to help. We recently used The Heating Specialist to remove our old oil fired boiler and install a natural gas combination tankless water heater and radiant floor heater. They prepared a detailed estimate from the initial site visit that demonstrated their knowledge of radiant floor systems and happily discussed budget and value options. They provided clear communication and were very respectful and courteous while they performed their work. The installation went very smoothly and I have been very happy with the final product. Would highly recommend them for anyone upgrading their radiant floor heating source.

The Heating Specialist installed our new heat pump today. The whole process was seamless. I had contacted a few companies and Daniel was the most prompt to respond and after meeting with him, I didnt get any other proposals. Jana in the office was wonderful and provided great follow up, even when I was slacking. Today, the installers Carlos and another gentleman, arrived at the early end of their arrival window and were very friendly and got right to work. I was not home for the installation, but Carlos called as soon as they were finished with a couple of follow ups and recommendations. The end project turned out perfect! During the stretch of horribly hot weather (in the 110’s) Kevin and The Heating Specialist team made time on a Sunday to come repair our broken AC. I’m very pregnant and we needed it fixed fast and they didn’t disappoint! They came out and had it fixed in under an hour, saved our family from the heat.Additionally we were advised we needed a new unit altogether as ours was super old and they came out within less than a week of us requesting the service, installed the unit in a few hours, and answered all my questions. For last couple of years Ive used these folks to maintain and repair an aging and failing water heater/boiler. Based on their response and effort to fix my problems - and expertise in boilers - I finally bit the bullet and contracted for installation of a new Lochinvar combo boiler. I trusted their judgement and recommendation that this unit will perform better and last longer than other brand originally installed about 9 years ago. Installation went smooth and quicker than estimated. All workers (they sent a full crew) were friendly and professional, and came all masked up.

My 19-year old furnace either needed an expensive repair or replacement. The furnace company on site gave me a pretty expensive bid and were pushing me to commit. Luckily, my friend knew a tech at The Heating Specialist, who put me in touch with the owner. He came out right away, gave me a very reasonable bid on an appropriate furnace with no pressure and were able to install next business day! The Heating Specialist came recommended to me by a good friend.. On a super short notice (only a few hours) Daniel came out to give me an estimate on an A/C replacement unit. Mine was over twenty years old, and not working, I knew it was time for a new one. I had a terrible time with another company and after going around and around for two months with them I gave up and called the Heating Specialist and everything was scheduled & done quickly. Work done: I have a rental unit that had specific HOA requirements to replace pex lines to the water heater. They also responded quickly to my tenants heating unit going out in the winter. Six months later I had to replace my water heater and also had my AC unit serviced. They did all this work and it was seamless. I wish I would not have wasted so much time with the other company but I’m glad I now have a reliable place to call for my future rental or current home needs. Thank you Tom, Daniel, and Jana. The Heating Specialist has serviced the furnaces at my home and rentals for many years. They are always on time, very knowledgeable and do a great job. This year I had to have replace my furnace at my home due to age and replaced it with a 99% efficient Lennox furnace. They installed it and a new high tech thermostat all in one day. The price of the system and filter was very competitive and the other bid I received was for the same price but for a less quality unit. I love the furnace. It’s quiet and efficient.Bottom line is that The Heating Specialist is my go to contractor for furnace and plumbing jobs.I highly recommend them.

We had a great experience working with The Heating Specialist when replacing our old furnace and A/C. Our salesperson, Daniel presented us with a range of options that would best suit our needs, home size and budget. There was some issues about whether or not we could us our old A/C unit and in the end we opted for a newer energy efficient (quieter) model. They were able to schedule the installation the following week and Daniel was great following up the day before to confirm that they were still on schedule to do the work. Morgan & Chris showed up on time, laid down plastic and drop cloths from my back door down to where the furnace was which I appreciated as I have carpet and the furnace is in a finished basement. They were extremely pleasant and efficient. First explaining what they would be doing (part of the installation was to remove a vent from the chimney and reroute with new PVC pipe for more efficient air intake/out take) and letting me know along the way that everything was going well. After all was in place they walked me through all the important stuff like where the gas shut off valve is, how to use the new thermostat that was part of the package. Their clean up was spotless, couldnt even tell they were there!! Morgan was quick to point out that since it is winter they cant properly test the A/C but that we will get a call from the office When temps get above 65 to schedule a time to come out to fine tune it. They also arrange all the permits and will contact us to schedule the city inspection that is required. The furnace, which is a Lenox EL296V Gas, is so quiet I had to go downstairs to confirm it was on. I never realized how noisy our old one was!!! Cant wait to try the A/C as the old unit was so noisy you could sit out on our patio if it was on.I am very please with the service and would totally recommend them to others.

During a time of bad weather with great demands being placed on a number of similar kinds of specialized service providers, he came to our house on the same day we called the Heating Specialist and helped us with our water-leaking problem. Although the services the Heating Specialist provide turned out to be different than what we ultimately needed, Neil nonetheless stayed and implemented a short-term solution and gave us very helpful and insightful advice for moving forward. He could have said that he and his company could not help us, but he stayed and assisted us during our time of need. We were and still are impressed.

Our AC stopped working after three consecutive 100 plus days. I called the HVAC company that installed the unit for help first, and they were booked 3 weeks out. I then started frantically calling HVAC companies and the earliest help was two weeks out during the worst heat wave ever in Portland! I then got ahold of the receptionist at The Heating Specialist. They were slammed as everyone else but she put me on a list for cancellations and to my surprise I got a call from her early in the afternoon same day as I called. The HVAC repairman called me on the way over and was punctual and professional. He diagnosed the problem and fixed my AC within 30 minutes! This was an amazing experience and I will call The Heat Specialist for all my HVAC needs moving forward!

Our Radiant heating system stopped working. We couldnt even get hot water. At first when we called they couldnt make it for 5 days but once I told them it was an emergency they came out ASAP. I think it was same day or the next day. They completed the service quickly for a great price and they didnt cut any corners. I proactively replaced a 100+ year old boiler with a 95% efficient direct vent boiler system. After getting a couple quotes, I ended up using The Heating Specialist and couldnt be happier. From the initial phone call to get an estimate, to the final inspection process, The Heating Specialist was great.David came out to the house for the initial estimate. He was very personable and took the time to explained my options as well as make sure he understood our wants and needs. Once I confirmed wed be using his company, the contract was signed and the installment dates were set around my scheduling needs.The actual instalment took about 7 full days. For this reason, I highly recommend replacing your boiler system proactively and not in the dead of winter when it craps out on you!! Our install was NOT lengthy because they worked slow. I personally under estimated the task at hand. During the install, there were anywhere from 3-6 guys working in my basement from 8:30 am to about 4:00 pm. Grant and his guys were hard workers, very polite, cleaned up every day, and answered all my question (no matter how dumb) as the install progressed. When all was said and done I was left with a very clean and perfectly installed boiler system. My gas bill is also 1/3 of what it was last winter.I highly recommend The Heating Specialist!

My furnace died on a Saturday. The first place I called took two days to get back to me, only to say it would take them at least a month before they could do the work. A few years ago, the Heating Specialist installed a high efficiency natural gas radiant heat system, replacing a very old oil radiant heat system in my old house. They went beyond and above all expectations. They also offered the most economical bid. Since then, they have done yearly service. During a recent service call, I had them remove a small radiator from under the kitchen sink, so my kitchen could be renovated and remodeled. They did so without charging much more than the annual service charge. Another time, they came right away to check a possible radiator pipe leak and didn’t charge anything for the house call.

My water heater suddenly stopped doing its job and Matty was able to get someone scheduled to come look right away. Fantastic customer service - super friendly, responsive and professional. 5+ stars!

In the past, I had The Heating Specialist out to do some upgrades on my homes ductwork and they did first class work. Recently, I called them on a Tuesday (during the heat of the summer) to tell them that my AC unit and air handler (furnished and installed by others, years ago) were not functioning properly. Long story short, the next day they were out to troubleshoot - and by Friday that same week they had the entire system replaced and up and running. Their service is excellent in all respects, their quality of work is top notch, and when they left you couldnt tell they had been here - except for the greatly improved system they furnished and installed at a fair price. They left their work areas cleaner than they were when they arrived. I have a construction background, and I recommend them without any reservations.

Outstanding. Yes I got the you should replace the whole thing but I knew that already and told them that. They fixed my way too old furnace quickly and Kevin the engineer who came was extremely candid, frank and lets get this working. They figured out that the thing had been badly installed by the previous owner (hence why it gave up), fixed it and got me the best price on the parts. They knew what they were doing and were within 3 minutes of when they said they would come. It was also MLK day so super grateful. I cannot say enough good things especially given that I had given up trying to schedule the engineers for the past week whose sticker was on the side of the unit. Thankfully I was not able to and got these guys with one call.

We had a condenser pump fail and the resulting slow leak ruined drywall, the carpet and a rug. We renovated down to the studs and put in all new mechanical systems; whole house radiant (hydronic) floors and mini-splits. I found many contractors happy to do one or the other but only The Heating Specialists were willing to take on the whole job. And they were great from start to finish. Thomas kept me fully up to speed and was always available to me when changes in timing or design became necessary. Every person that he deployed at the site were knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient.

They service a restored 3-storey house used as counseling offices. Even heating is a challenge with 3 floors, but theyve done a good job. Very respectful and knowledgeable. The original owner (Dave Brent) is semi-retired, and we worked with him for a long time before. But, current employees are doing a fine job. We have a service contract with them, and they are quick to respoond to any problems. We also have them service our home once a year.

We have been using the Heating Specialist since we bought our house seven years ago and won’t use anyone else! They’ve kept our furnace running perfectly. When we purchased our home, the inspector and and the sellers said the AC wouldn’t last even one more summer. The team at the Heating Specialist never tried to sell us a new unit. Every year when it went out (on the hottest day of the year of course) they sent someone right away and it was revived! After about five years, it couldn’t be saved and they were able to replace the AC unit right away for almost half what I anticipated the cost to be. The work was done in a timely manner, and the radiant heating was installed professionally 10/10 would recommend. They even came in to help us figure out how to use the control panel and how to schedule when the floors heat up and cool down.

Edit: I did not have a rodent in my system. This company is more willfully incompetent than I can believe. After several follow up visits where they said they didnt know what was going on, I finally hired a second company to come out and diagnose the problem. They figured out it was plywood from replacing my roof. They cleaned out the furnace thoroughly, finally removing the debris the Heating Specialist did not take out after 4 visits.I then had to call the Heating Specialist and they finally admitted there is a 90 day warranty on replacing the motor. They refused to pay me back for the extra expense of having the second company out, and told me they would instead do a complimentary service. I dont want them anywhere near my house or furnace again, so I am out that money, but I am relieved its finally fixed.*********Initial Post:I had them out to fix a crackling sound coming from the furnace. The first time they cleaned a part, sound came back right after. The next time they came out they said the part had to be completely replaced. I was a little frustrated that they hadnt just done that in the first place, but figured theyre the experts. Well, $900 later sound is still there. They came out to take a look and said nothing is wrong, nothing they can do about it. Then they had the nerve to ask me to give them a 5 star review in exchange for a raffle entry. I give 5 star reviews when people do the work they say theyre going to do. Now I have to hire another company.

Ive used The Heating Specialist in two homes. In one I worked with the owner David. His team put in a boiler and tankless hot water system which was used for a hydro radiant heating system and hot water to the house. They were professional, fast, and left behind a high quality product that worked well for years and Im sure will continue to work well for the new home owners for many years to come.In my second house Ive had The Heating Specialist out to service the air conditioner and heater. The Heating Specialist team was A+ in all regards. So much so that I took out a 3 year maintenance contract with them for twice a year maintenance of our furnace ( which was not theirs) and AC (which was theirs). Highly recommend them for all your heating and AC needs.

I had one day to remove a mini split ductless air conditioner before construction began. After contacting 7 different local hvac companies and experiencing a shocking amount of terrible Customer service, I contacted The Heating Specialist. Right away they were helpful and professional. Thomas went absolutely out of his way. He not only found a technician that could solve my problem in time, he called me back and had pulled one out of his hat that could see me RIGHT THEN!! The tech was there almost before Id said Thank you.! AND,... as if I wasnt already impressed, the tech noticed something on the main hvac system and correct it! I mean.... Outstanding!!! There will not be another heating or cooling company that I will ever call. Excellent across the board!

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this company. One of my staff met technician Kevin while he was in having breakfast with his family. I gave him a call the following week to help with an issue at the restaurant and he was out the same day. He fixed the issue, as well as a shoddy A/C install that was leaking. Weve had Otto out since then as well, and Ive had quite a bit of contact with the girls at the office. Everyone is friendly, responsive, professional, and their prices are fair. Highly recommended!

Originally hired THS to zone my older, inherited HVAC system, and more recently to upgrade to a high efficiency furnace and AC. Additionally use them for regularly scheduled maintenance. Installed A/C for our daughters home on Eugene St in Portland in 2018. We loved everything about them, but couldnt afford their seasonal maintenance -- so we had to go elsewhere for that.

The heating specialist/heat pump company went above and beyond for us. The bid was fair, the installation was fine, very professional and good communication. However, when we had a problem, they really knocked themselves out to solve it. This was a noisy unit, and I think some companies would have given up. They tried 3 fixes and finally returned the unit under warranty. Similar thing happened recently when a part went out under warranty. No charge for the repair. They did the service on the heat pumps for the regular charge, explained everything to me and the tenants. I am very grateful.

These guys are great. They installed an AC unit in 2017 quickly and for a fair price. Plus, I’ve used them for maintenance on both AC and furnace. My house is a rental and I’ve allowed them access without me having to be home. Very honest and dependable. Highly recommend!

We were recommended to The Heating Specialist by a commercial and residential rental manager. We called for an appointment. The same day, Steve called from his last repair, and arrived promptly at our building. Although it took him a couple of hours, he repaired our air conditioning without first telling us our air conditioning and furnace needed replacing. We will use him and The Heating Specialist again for all of our residential and commercial heating and air conditioning repairs. What a great experience!

I had the Heating Specialist install a hydronic heating system (where the hot water heater also provides the heat for the HVAC) in the late 90s. It worked great for years, and when some components needed to be replaced recently, I was very glad to discover they are still in business and still doing good work.
