Had a little work done a while back and thought they were a decent repair shop. Then I called about a check engine light that came on and was treated like they did not want my business at all, was also informed that they only do oil changes and no engine work what so ever. So I guess if you like extremely variable customer service and never need anything but an oil change, these are the guy you want.
My gf brought her audi a4 to these guys they took $200 to diagnose and told us that total repair would be between 600 to 800. But when i took it to a different mechanic that guy fixed the car for less and these guys diagnose and told us some thing that was not even wrong.Sorry to say this but do not take your european car to these guys. Also, please if you break something of someones car please take responsibility and do not say that it was broken when it came to the shop.
Pretty awesome got my car fixed really early
So where do I start, initially I thought (and hoped) that I would be really happy with the service here as I had heard good things from friends and colleagues, when I had my car taken in it was initially to find out what kind if issue my car was having, I know a bit about cars but my knowledge is definitely pretty basic stuff, like changing oil, lights, batteries ect. So I was at a loss when my car started giving me issues that with my limited knowledge I couldnt really figure out. The issue I was having was, that while driving randomly all my gauges would drop to zero, and random dash lights would come on. After a few times of that happening suddenly my car wouldnt start at all (although all the electrical stuff would come on like lights, A/C, radio, so I figured it wasnt just a battery issue). I had my car towed to Mels, initially the service seemed awesome, they told me it appeared to be an issue with the starter and that they had replaced it, we went and picked it up, and it was running great, but only for about 3 months. Then the exact same problem popped up with the gauges, dash lights, and then inevitably not starting at all. I worked this day, so my husband and step mother were taking care of it, they had it towed over again. I was under the impression that because the work from the first time was warrantied it would be no charge, but when I got a phone call later that day I was told it was a battery issue and it was about an $80 charge. Now i had no money at all at this time so i asked if it was okay to keep it there for a couple weeks untill i got paid, the man on the phone told me yes, it would be no problem. Now luckily we got some money rounded up and were able to pick it up early because when I got there to pick it up I noticed a sign saying cars kept on the property longer than 10 days will get a $25 charge per day something I was not told AT ALL when I asked if it was okay to keep it there for a couple weeks, I would have been very upset if I ended up with a surprise $100 or more if I had picked it up later than I did! As I paid and got my keys I also wanted to clarify some stuff with the gentleman helping me, as I hadnt dropped the car off (my husband did) I just wanted to clarify the issue with my gauges and dash lights, as well as the fact that my lights, a/c and radio would all turn on, just my engine wouldnt turn. The reason I felt the need to clarify is because I worried there was another issue instead of just the battery, seeing as how usually when the battery is dead NOTHING will turn on. I wasnt trying to say the battery wasnt potentially also an issue that did get fixed, I just wanted to make sure the other problem wouldnt pop up again. Now this was incredibly frustrating as the guy kept arguing with me, telling me I was wrong, and insisting it was only the battery, wich they took care of. Now I wasnt looking for a fight so I just paid and left. And now about a month later I am having THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, with my gauges dropping, dash lights coming on, and car not starting. So now Im pretty upset that Ive spent so much time and money on Mels just for my problem to apparently still not be fixed. I wanted to be happy with my service, I really did. But despite still being under warranty Im now thinking I should just take it somewhere else where my problem might actually be fixed properly.
Being a woman and a single mom its been AMAZING finding Mels Auto to take my vehicle too. It impressed me how he identified areas about my vehicle that I never told him about but have told others and they wouldnt really listen to me. That instantly had me as a forever customer because that meant he knew what he was doing. The best part was they went above and beyond and made sure my car had its needs met. I am very grateful for them and will keep using them in the future. Nice to find someone you can trust
Mel has helped me with my car many times.they are very friendly.and each person took the time to explain to me what was wrong..i reccomend them highly to everyone.great prices and very honest.
They are a great place to take your vehicles. Great service, very attentive and very friendly.

Fast, friendly, fair billing, Brent Stenersen is one of Pocatellos best mechanics, I have seen him work on everything from a Toyota to a Ferrari. You can have confidence Mels is going to do it right and accurate. Know with confidence your in better hands at Mels than most shops in town.Excellent communication.
They are very competent and try very hard to save you money and make everything good and that your vehicle is fixed right
I have used Mels repair for several years with several cars from maintenance to major repair. They have always been honest and reasonably priced.
Best shop in town.
Best mechanic in town. Very friendly and thorough.
Always great service, fast and courteous and they always do such a good job.
Wonderful Helpful CARING!!!!! Would DEFINITELY suggest to travelers having car trouble. TRULY HONEST PEOPLE!!!!
Very friendly and courteous staff !!! They have always done a great job on my volkswagon.
Best shop in town. I’ve been to just about all of them. They got the job done right the first time in the time frame they said they would, and for the price they said they would. I would recommend this shop.
I had my 20year old jeep in for oil leaks and it was running good before. got it fixed and they cleaned the engine and next day check engine light came on and wasn’t shifting right. So I took it back and Brent told me that he ran the code and shows throttle position error that water could have got in when they cleaned it, he wants to keep it overnight so he can drive around in the morning make sure it’s running right after clearing the code.. next morning I don’t get a call but went there and got a bill for $135 for replacing the sensor part. I didn’t authorize the procedure or even got a single call. They just did it! He told me he can undo the procedure and did me a favor giving me a discount $22 off 90 labor that he charged me. he told me he could have charged a lot more and could have cost me $350 if he wanted to. But the principle of calling somebody and get it authorized before doing the procedure I think it’s standard where they failed to do and not owning up to what it could have been their fault. Unprofessional. I wouldn’t go back and I wouldn’t recommend to anyone.
Mels was recommended to me by my previous mechanic who was retiring. I needed extensive work on a 2004 Volvo. All work done expertly, on schedule and for a reasonable amount. Very pleased. 5 star rating from me.
Didn’t want to do much.
Mels was great! They repaired my 1994 Subaru Legacy wagon quickly and were done when they said it would be. They also were substantially less expensive than another place in town. Im very glad I listened to my friend Brett Halinan and took my car there, I will do so again.
Great local repair shop. Owners name is Brent. The have a technician in there that is good with everything including imports and BMWs. I had real good luck with them, quotes and estimates came in very close to final price of service.
Way overpriced and horrible customer service. Would not recommend.
Walked in and inquired about service. Talked to Mel directly. What a dick. Very unprofessional. Was very quick to pass judgment and not even suggest if he could help. Would not listen or even let me finish. Didnt even know if he could help as he suggested call me next week, I got to many things going, etc. I had one simple question to see if he could do anything, of which when I finally took a different tone to get his attention, he responded, I dont know what that is. Im glad he didnt, because with his attitude and courtesy towards prospective clientele, I can only assume what kind of work he does. No thanks, go somewhere else. Not worth the hassle of dealing with this guy. I guess thanks for doing me a favor Mel and reminding me the level of mechanics in this town.
Had a great experience with Mels. They repaired our Sprinter RV and we were very pleased with the results. Thanks!
I started going to Mel when I bought a model of car that had no local dealership. He always treated me fairly, and service was always done on time for a reasonable price! Ive since moved away, but Id stand by his work and the customer service!
Mel’s has always done a great job when servicing my vehicles. They get you in as soon as they can and do the job right the first time.
Couldn’t have asked for better service. Trustworthy and honest. Would highly recommend.
The ONLY HONEST mechanics in town! Finding this shop right the street was the best thing that happened to me in regards to auto repair. Been using Mels for over 10 years. The crew at Mels have always been honest and straight-forward. No fake service and hidden fees! (Observation and I take this as an Unofficial endorsement; I regularly see ISP cruisers in the shop. If ISP trusts the Facers, thats a pretty good endorsement in my book.)
Good place to have your car worked on
Great customer service. He helped us out during a hard time. Fair and honest.
Best Mechanics in town! Honest, trustworthy, and reliable. Brent Facer and Brent Stenersen really know their stuff!
I had a great experience! Highly recommend!
A very honest mechanic who does good work. What more can you ask for?
Good people, honest and fair.
Needed help wouldn’t do it
Rude and lying employees don’t trust a word they say and get it all in writing because they will screw you over
Rude employees, unorganized & priced too high👎. Poor referral from Gate City Auto, who are retiring. Will miss Gate City Auto Repair a lot🤑
Lived across from them
Very honest
