Oom Yung Doe is an incredible system of martial arts training. Students study 8 different martial arts that are seamlessly integrated. Kung fu, udo, Kong su (similar to karate or tae kwon doe), samurai sword, 18 chinese weapons, aikido, tai chi and bagua. This gives students really balanced development and ultimately allows you to create a personal practice that is beautifully tailored to your individual needs. At Oom Yung Doe movement is a tool to win over whatever challenges you have in life, whether you want to overcome depression or serious health challenges. It is serious, authentic, traditional martial arts and the benefits are undeniable.I train primarily at an Oom Yung Doe location in Massachusetts but took some classes at this school while I was in the area. Instructors are excellent and knowledgeable, the students are fun and laid back and feel like a family, and the practice space is great. Head Instructor Patrick taught most of my classes in Boston when I started my training-- he was incredibly knowledgeable about how to work with my chronic illness and over a few months of working with him I was almost symptom free. The Pittsburgh school is extremely lucky to have him.In my two years at Oom Yung Doe I went from fainting 20 times a day and not being able to work for 9 years to being in better shape than I was as a high school athlete-- and that is just scratching the surface of the positive change Ive felt. Ive watched my fellow students get their weight under control, quit smoking, overcome depression, stop feeling suicidal, get past the need for various medications, heal long standing injuries, overcome social anxiety, the list goes on and on. The students are diverse in age (20s-60s), gender, race, religion, and background-- the unifying factor is that Oom Yung Doe is a place for people who are serious about making positive change in their lives. If you want to take control of your life and really change, grow, and overcome your mental and physical limitations, this is absolutely the place for you.

Instructor Patrick is a really good teacher who knows how to motivate students to do better. The practice encourages you to be not only physically strong, but also mentally present - which I really like. Training is tailored to each students capacity, and HI Patrick appropriately pushes everyone to challenge themselves. After a month of class, I feel more flexible, focused and less stressed in these crazy times.

I first entered the School of Oom Yung Doe on Murray Avenue in Pittsburgh two years ago because I had been given a gift certificate and hoped to improve my balance by practicing Tai Chi. I soon learned that the school offered classes in eight styles of martial arts, and not only has my balance improved, but also my flexibility, strength, and ability to focus. The classes are tailored to each persons ability, and they are taught by caring and professional teachers who are passionate about the benefits of martial arts training. During the six months of the pandemic, there have been a variety of online, outdoor, and small classes that have helped tremendously to elevate body, mind, and spirit through these incredibly challenging times. I love the diversity of ages and backgrounds in this school. All you need is a positive attitude to develop friendships, new skills, and a more balanced and peaceful life.

I am 70 years old. I have been active all of my life, but have come to the realization that there are certain activities I can no longer participate in. Training at Oom Yung Doe has been challenging, and has enabled me to maintain my strength, mobility, flexibility and coordination. What I like best about the school are the instructors. They dont just tell you what to do. Its what I call show and teach...every lesson and evey movement that is taught is first demonstrated by the instructor.

I began with the Tai Chi Chung lessons and then progressed to the 8 Martial Arts program. I trained for several years and now have a black belt and am an assistant instructor. I am in good health, have a positive outlook on life and am enjoying the training. I just turned 71 and am gratefull for the higher belts teachings.

I love training at the school of Oom Yung Doe! Have been a student for a little over three years and just recently tested for 1st degree black belt. In that small amount of time, I feel as though I have accomplished more then I could have ever hoped for! I feel stronger, in better shape, more focused and a general sense of well-being on a day-to-day basis. The level of instruction is excellent and you will get a lot of individual attention. Whether you have never stepped into a practice room, are in poor health, or are a conditioned athlete you wil be challenged and encouraged to continue as you see your health improve. I believe that anyone who wants to better themself has an equal chance. The opportunity is available to anyone by stoping by a school, speaking to an Instructor and signing up! The rest is up to you but if you are serious you will receive a lot of support along the way (as I know I sure have).
