I heard about them by word of mouth. I was very pleased with the services, to say the least. Very fair prices, I felt very confident from leaving the keys with them up until pick up. They will not try to up sell you if possible but will provide you with the information you need to make an informed decision and try to stay near the original estimate. Every interaction was very pleasant in person and via email. They seemed very busy and despite the work I needed done they actually had it out sooner than estimated. I took my 1996 Jeep Cherokee to Ben’s to have the heater core replaced. I had recently purchased the vehicle and overhauled the HVAC system due to numerous component failures. The controls had been inoperable due to a vacuum leak that I repaired, thus fixing the problem. I had Ben’s replace the heater core because I was too busy to do it myself and they offered me a fair price. I confirmed the HVAC system operation when I dropped the vehicle off.The manager told me at pickup that the controls weren’t working. I explained to him that I had repaired them myself and tested operation of the the controls in his own parking lot just before leaving the vehicle with them. He argued with me and even went as far as stating that the mechanic called him outside to show him the “non-working” controls prior to attempting any work. This was an outright fabrication.Replacing the heather core requires removal of the dashboard and all components, including the HVAC controls. The tech never plugged the main control harness back in to the controls. I fixed their “mistake” at home myself in less than 20 mins.It was either a mistake, or an attempt to drum up future business. Either way, I won’t be back. But at least my HVAC system is working great! Next time, I’ll just fix it myself.

When he passed away, I only noticed the issue when I started his truck. Have been taking our vehicles here for years now. Honest through and through and have consistently gone above and beyond. They have always had conversations with me when stuff comes up on the cars, taking the time to explain context about whats going on. Also their prices are very fair and competitive. The only downside to them sometimes is that people are catching on and they can get pretty busy pretty quick, but theyre worth the wait, imo.

The alternator failed on my Ford Ranger while I was in a nearby town, and I was forced to have it repaired before driving back to Olympia. I think that shop did quality work, but unfortunately the warning lights came back on and the battery voltage started to drop after driving 25 miles. I called the shop and they referred me to Bens Automotive as a closer alternative within the NAPA warranty network. Bens basically did me a solid. Replaced the alternator, squared things up with the other shop, and sent me on my way. Extremely impressed with the customer service, and Ted in particular was exceptionally kind. I would definitely take my vehicles there in the future and refer any friends looking for a trustworthy local repair shop!

Ive been going to Bens for several years now after my longtime shop in the area shut down - seemingly without notice. But Ive been very pleased with the professionalism with this shop. Ive never felt strong armed into fixing anything other than what Ive gone in for. Several times they have mentioned something that theyve seen that should be addressed sooner than later, but its never been bullying (which I have encountered at several other Olympia area shops). The work has always been finished timely and reasonably priced as well.

Great shop - honest, knowledgable, & diligent. I found out about Ted because a friend referred me here. I was not disappointed and am happy to pass on the referral. Having car trouble is frustrating, but this shop is honest and cares about their reputation.

Not happy! I called prior to bringing my vehicle there and was quoted $45 diagnostic for the heater in my vehicle. I ended up being charged $71 for diagnostic plus $20 for a radiator cap that I dont even know where it was placed. On top of that my heat still doesnt work properly and got told Im not supposed to adjust my thermostat. I left feeling cheated and wont recommend any fellow soldiers.

The most honest and professional auto repair shop I have ever seen. They have maintained the vehicles of my family and friends for years and have demonstrated consistent, reliable, reasonable, fair, and professional service. They repair only what needs to be repaired, bill reasonably and only for the work performed, and stand by their work.Examples: There are many examples of me and my family and friends having repairs done at Bens and being pleased with the results and the cost. But the best examples of the honesty and fairness of Bens Automotive are when things dont go as planned. I had noticed an unfamiliar noise from my 1998 Toyota Four Runner engine, and thought it might be the alternator. Ted (owner of Bens Automotive) listened to engine, and concurred that the noise might be bearing wear in the alternator. I asked him to change it out, and it was done. It turned out the noise was originating in the water pump and not the alternator, and he changed that out and resolved the problem. When I picked up the car he had billed me only for the water pump part and labor. I asked him why he wasnt billing me for the alternator, which I had asked him to replace, and he told me that it didnt need to be replaced and so he would not charge for the part and labor of doing so. I told him that wasnt fair to him and offered to at least pay for the part. He declined.I took my Four Runner in several times thinking that the brake pads needed to be replaced. Both times he pulled the wheels and checked them out and told me that they were still serviceable. Finally, when I was in for something else, he told me it was time to change them out, which we did.Bens did a pre-purchase inspection of a high milage VW Golf diesel for my daughter and son and law, and shortly after they purchased it a full engine rebuild was required. Bens did the work without charge to my daughter. Ted would not accept any payment for the work, even tough we offered to pay for the labor, and then at least for the parts. He said he stands by his work, and that he would not accept any payment for the work or parts.Yesterday an older Toyota owned by friends was taken into the shop because the brake light was on. Ted checked it out, and found that even though the brake fluid was within normal limits, it was not completely full, and the 20 year old detection system was falsely reporting a problem. He topped off the reservoir and the light went out. He as also asked to change the oil during the visit, and the only charge was for the oil change.You can trust your vehicle to him. He will look it over and recommend what it needs, and then make the necessary repairs correctly, promptly, and for a fair price.I recommend Bens Automotive without reservation.
