Im always leery about finding a new place for car maintenance as you never know who will take advantage of my limited knowledge.However, the work I have had done at the shop is quickly becoming a favorite place to go. Everyone has been very pleasant, honest and professional. They are straight forward about what needs to be done and they dont try to up sale items that arent needed. I like the convenient location to my office and prices are reasonable.

Bill Smiths Auto is an auto repair that you can truly trust. They are all very experienced, very informative and always willing to take that extra mile for you. They are prompt and honest and very helpful.

I dropped my vehicle off by Bill’s for its annual inspection. I live a little less than a mile from the shop; I always walk home as I like the exercise, but they are always kind to offer a ride. The service staff is courteous and professional. I was told that the service may take at least a couple of hours and it was just about exactly two hours when I got a call that it was finished. I have only been using Bill Smith’s for a few years, but have never been dissatisfied.

Honesty. Its why I keep coming back. I have spent a lot of money here, but why? Because of the plenty of times they charged me little or nothing when the problem was small. When there was a real problem, they were honest and explained it. When there wasnt, they didnt use my ignorance against me. At other car places, something was always wrong at every state car inspection. At Bills, most of my state inspections were just that, an inspection, because my car passed. They have made recommendations when my car didnt fail, but was getting close, and I have needed a repair to pass, but it was minor. Are you failing ALL inspections at your current car place? We have taken our cars for over 25 years to Bill Smiths for all types of service and continue to go back. Most recently we had an old car inspected and they found a safety item that needed repair to pass. They are very straightforward about what you need and why. We felt good that the car had been serviced by folks who know what they are doing. Call for an appointment this time of year -- they are busy because they are good!

They were able to repair my vehicles AC wonderfully but not really happy about my work phone charger being thrown on the passenger side floor and being trampled on and covered in grease by the mechanic. Could have put the charger on the seat or the dash if it need to be moved where it wouldnt have gotten messed up.

I broke down next store at WaWa. A tech came over to analyze the problem and was able to have my vehicle ready the next day.

Listen: Ive been frequenting this business for several years now. But heres the backstory: I wandered around the area with no particularly established connection to any business. YOU know what I mean---no every-single-time trust that the job will get done right, no turn your head because youre sure nobodys going to steal anything from your car, no worries about getting duped into an over-charge or--worse--an unnecessary charge (in other words, no assurances against the usual).But not THESE guys. They just REEK of professionalism and everything they do is geared toward the customer FIRST! Nice digital display at the counter feeding you useful information while you stand there, updated, highly useful online conveniences including online scheduling you can do yourself with GUARANTEED follow-up from a REAL person and not an automated system (UGH!), comfortable waiting room with climate control, entertainment, and refreshments, etc., and they do their jobs precisely the same way every time--giving you that feeling of trusty, stable, confidence that your next visit will excel equally.And, to top it all off, the guy who checks you out is absolutely welcoming and accommodatingly polite, every single time, in such a way that the customer cannot deny that they were treated with the utmost care! Very kind people, reasonable prices, quick service. When other places said I would have to drop my car off for the day (I cant-Iwork from my car) to do a 30 minutes job, they were able to get me in and out in before the techs went to lunch despite being busy. Other places didnt try to work with me at all.

My wife took her car to an state inspection station very close to our home. The car failed the inspection and she was given a $1500 estimate to fix the discrepancies. Bill Smiths said some of the alleged discrepancies were bogus and the cost to fix the valid ones was only $400. The longer drive to Bill Smiths was well worth making.

I needed a state inspection and they were fast and courteous. Very clean and everyone was in a mask. I dropped it off and within a few hours they called and said it was ready. Very pleased with that. The only thing I will say negative is that my car needed a 3rd brake light (the one in the rear window) but I was not told until I picked it up that they replaced it. When they called to say the car was ready, they did not mention it. So, the approximate $10 extra cost I didnt know about til I went to pay the bill. It took me by surprise. They should disclose any additional charges or problems they find during inspection BEFORE the customer shows up to pay the bill.

Made the appointment on-line. Received an email confirmation for the next day. Arrived at the shop and saw a very clean environment. The office staff was very helpful and ready to serve. The estimate was reasonable and included a new serpentine belt. Great catch.

Great place to get your car AC done. They really work with commercial fleets making sure to get thoes vehicle back on the road and running cool. Friend office staff helpful and transparent.

Friendly office team, fair pricing, and work completed in a timely fashion. As I was leaving though I noticed that the tires werent rotated. Manager on shift agreed. Manager and another technician completed the tire rotation on the spot just after closing time. Much appreciated. Later, I opened the hood and found 2 of the 4 clips that secure the engine air filter housing were left unhinged. Due to the friendly staff and the kind manager who worked to correct the tire rotation error I wanted to give Bill Smiths 4 stars. However, the technician who worked my car made two errors. I cant let one single technician sway me from recommending Bill Smiths though. Id go back.

I had to have my AC system replaced on my F-150. The team completed this in less than one day. Jeff, my service adviser kept me informed of all aspects of this repair. 2001 Corvette began to give me A/C issues. I attempted some fixes, such as installing my own parts. No success.Took the car to Bills, arrived at 8am. By 9:30 they had diagnosed the problem, told me they could get the parts by the afternoon, and offered me a ride to my home to wait it out (I live very close by and it was raining).Not only was the repair done that day by 3pm, but they were very professional in communicating the issues, costs, and reasons for what was up. Most of that time was spent at my home while they waited for the parts to be sent across town.Finally, they let me keep the parts I had installed on my own dime so I could return them to my supplier and get my $$ back. Cannot recommend enough and will go back anytime I need anything done.

I had the a/c unit replaced on my Dodge about 9 years ago at Bill Smiths. It was pricey at $800 but the repair lasted for 5/6 years so I was cool with that. I took it back 3 years ago when the air conditioning started blowing warm and they estimated $1600 this time to replace the air conditioning unit. I decided to replace my Dodge instead and gave the car to my daughter. My son-in-law is very handy with cars and managed to get the air conditioning repaired and working properly for far, far less than $1600. So on one hand they do high quality work but the price quoted the second time around was much too high. I personally just didnt see the value. My true rating is 3.5 but thats not an option.

Found Bill Smiths on Google. Great service all the way around. They diagnosed and fixed my AC problem in less than four hours. I didnt want to wait so they gave me a ride home since I stayed close to the shop. I needed to be picked up too. Guess who picked me up?...the freaking owner! Who does that? Bill Smiths! The owner had good conversation too. I normally dont leave post but I was so impressed I had to. I see some people posted the price was high, news flash...all automotive repair is expensive. I googled the price of a hose replacement for my vehicle and they were right at the median price. I have lived in 5 different states and labor for automotive work is never cheap. In Texas I paid $800 to fix my AC on my Yukon just for it to fail the next Summer. You have to pay for quality work, unless you can do it your self or take a chance on a shade tree mechanic.

I know now why they have been in business for so many years. No other place can beat their excellent service and customer satisfaction.

They told me i needed to do all this stuff for my AC to work and wanted me to pay $1,280 for the work i said no come to find out it was my AC /heat accumulator box in my dash that went out i got new one for $45 bucks and watched YouTube on how to put it in and i didnt have to drop dash neither took me 2 and half hours and AC was working perfect even today its perfect and i will not waste my time to call them not worth it and again nothing to discuss ...You didnt rip me off so Im good

Very friendly employees. After my last inspection station closed, I was in search of a new place this week. I walked in on Tuesday and they got me in and out quickly. I then dropped off my other car for an inspection and let them keep it for the next day. They were honest and fair. They let me know exactly what needed repair immediately and what should be done soon and what was required for inspection. They didn’t just write me up a bill for $1k worth of repairs like some other places around here have tried to do. Great people. Will be back.

Took my car here for AC work after someone recommended them to me. Great place and staff was very helpful and them seem very fair. I had to call several times and spoke with Larry and he was extremely helpful, and really went out of his way to answer all of my questions. Overall really good customer service!!! Two great experiences 10 years apart. Back when I was a young Sailor they fixed my heating on short notice on a lemon I purchased and yesterday my wifes heat started acting up and they were able to diagnose it, fix it and perform preventive maintenance in 3 hours. Everyone else needed me to drop it off just to diagnose it. Theyre customer service is great. I love independently owned businesses and this is definitely one to patronize.

I had a most excellent experience at Bill Smiths Auto. My jeeps brakes were going out as I was driving and I pulled into their shop desperate for help and low on funds. They not only took my Jeep back quickly, they made the part needed in-store and were done much quicker than estimated. The price was also much better than estimated. I am extremely grateful for their help! Thank you guys for making my horrible day better!

I appreciate their kind return of my husbands property in the car. Our car was towed by the city. However, when I retrieved the car, it had been left under a tree with the windows open. It had rained the night before and the inside of my car is now soaking wet and has mold. They claimed they were unable to secure the car. I got right in it, started it up and rolled the windows up. Shame on you.

I have used Bill Smith since 1969 and have always been pleased with their work. I have a small business and down time on a truck is expensive. They have always been quick to provide repairs, charge a fair price, provide quality work. Their people are great to work with.

Updated 7/20/18:Mr. Reeves contacted me a few days later to express his sincere apologies for the poor customer service and offered to adjust my bill to reflect the original quote. Thank you Mr. Reeves.This is actually our second review in less than a year. Last fall I took my vehicle in to have them check the radiator for leaks because I was having an issue with temperature. The thermostat and the water pump were new, so that was not the issue. They proceeded to check all other parts and then gave me a ticket price of over $1,000 of repairs of things I did not ask them to check on. Now this second time, because Unfortunately they are the only auto air conditioning service in the area. I had to have a new hose built for my new air conditioner unitfor my vehicle. When I went into the service area to start discussing the work they were immediately rude and shut me down not allowing me to finish what I was saying. Once we got past that and they explained they would have to rebuild the hose, I told them that I understand that this is what we thought; then I was given a quote of around $100. After waiting OVER 24 hours since the part was dropped off to be rebuilt, they finally called, the item is ready for pickup and that it was going to be over $130. If you continue to use their services, I suggest that you get a quote from them and I recommend getting it in writing. I will not go back there. I would rather take my vehicle to a dealership to have work done then deal with the rudeness of those men in that service department.

I called on a Friday morning to see if they could look at my car that afternoon, and they saw me at 3:00. They changed out my breaks and battery by 4:45pm and were all pretty friendly. I dont know enough to say if the price was good, but the gentleman explained where and why he was picking certain parts over others and made it clear I could shave a few dollars if I wanted to go lower end on some of the parts. There were recommended fixes, but he also didnt pressure me too much there. I was very satisfied with this place overall.

Dont go anywhere else! My family has been going here for years. Just picked up my car today, great turn around time and way cheaper than i expected! Larry kept me updated throughout the whole process. You will not find a more honest and dependable shop in all of Hampton Roads!

These people work hard and do an excellent job getting your vehicle back to you in a timely manner. They started out mostly doing vehicle air conditioners but they can work on any part of it. They do inspections too. Call them yo and make an appointment to get your vehicle fixed here you wont regret it.

I recently had a complete overhaul of my heating and ac system and they did a great job.A good mark of integrity is how someone handles their mistakes. They accidentally broke something near where they were working which wasnt part of the job. They took full responsibility for the damage and ordered a replacement part right away and fixed it with minimal inconvenience to me.I was very satisfied with their work and happily impressed with their integrity. I am glad my friend recommended them and I will certainly use them again if needed.

They took the time to listen to my problem and then to find the cause. 2 other garages did a cursory look, reported no problem found and charged me anyway. Bill Smiths took the time to allow the intermittent problem to occur, and the correct the root cause. The price charged was reasonable, and all work completed when they said it would be. I have had several experiences with these people. Every time Im extremely surprised by their price. Today I got a synthetic oil change, and every other place Ive gotten an oil change I am charged 100$+. These guys charged me 54$ because Theres no need to charge so much for an oil change, it takes us 30 Minutes to do. Id rather earn your business in the future than gauge you for a few more dollars. They deserve 5 stars all around. Tune ups, oil changes, tire rotations. Everything. Theyre the best.
