I have gone to this gym for over a decade. I loved going to this gym. Today I lost my job and I tried to cancel my membership. When I went in, the person (who was not wearing a mask) said they don’t do cancellations and just gave me a business card to call the bank. The bank informed me that I’m not allowed to simply cancel a membership that I need to send an email, wait 48 hours, then give a months notice and need to pay another month’s fees. I said that I do not have an income right now and I cannot afford to do that and they said there was nothing they can do, it’s the rules of the club. 10+ years of monthly payments and they cannot have any compassion for someone in a tough situation. It’s really sad, I didn’t think they were “those people” but I was mistaken.
My first and best fitness personal trainer was Tom. You can definitely notice that he is truly passionate about what he does. He teaches you everything you need to learn about your fitness journey and doesn’t mind talking about other issues you might be having outside of fitness. Me and him talked a lot about growing up which helped me grow as a man and more importantly as an individual until this point in my life. I found out he was resigning and didn’t get to properly wish him well for his future. But yeah, Big Sky is a great start for people finally making the decision to get in shape and turn it into a lifestyle.
Love this gym. The staff is really nice and the equipment is modern and clean.
The gym is fine. Clean facility, equipment is maintained. But trying to cancel your membership here was a NIGHTMARE. Took me days of phone calls and emails to get it canceled. I would recommend trying another gym in the area.
Ive been a proud Big Sky Newington member for 11 years. Ive been a member at so many gyms, and Big Sky is levels above the competition. I can guarantee itll be the cleanest gym youve ever gone to. Their equipment is state of the art, from the weights to the machines, and theyre always looking to upgrade on a regular basis. Their staff is second to none. So pleasant and ready to greet you right when you walk through the door. I can tell you first hand how much they value their members. If youre thinking about joining a gym or changing gyms, you need to check these guys out! You wont be sorry.
DON’T SIGN UP. They scam you and automatically charge you despite finishing your contract. Will never be joining any big sky again.
Great gym! Lots of equipment, friendly staff, super clean.
Go elsewhere!!They say you can cancel at anytime and it’s not true.you have to send a letter of cancellation to a 3rd party(which takes 20 days)if your pay period falls within those 20days you are charged again and it’s going to . So technically you have to pay to get out of the contract an extra month that you’re not using
Love this place, would love to see more machines, other than that is a good place to workout
This gym is great the equipment is always clean and always available
Best gym ever. Staff is so helpful and welcoming. The gym is very clean and they have lots of cleaning stations/supplies. Their mask policy is awesome and is being enforced. All of the negative reviews about cancelling are b/c they were probably trying to get out of a legally binding contract... that they signed and agreed to..:: and the employees said no. the guy was very clear with me about this policy when I signed up- and I said ok sounds fair. Don’t bash a business based on your personal inability to follow thru on commitments !!!!
Love big sky. All the classes are included in the very affordable monthly membership. It’s always clean, the staff is friendly and helpful. Parking lot can get crowded but you can always find a spot. Regrettably have to update this post as ABC Financials has been extremely difficult to deal with cannot in good faith recommend big sky when the accounting firm they use has 1 star on the better business bureau website (and that’s one more star then they deserve) I’ve provided proof of a move over 1000 miles from the nearest big sky, but have been told I will have to pay the reminder of the contract.
Bathrooms are not updated or cleaned. Not recommended
I enjoy going but still disappointed there still are no combat classes. The gym is clean and the staff are very pleasant.
Avoid this place! There are so many gyms that treat you well, BigSky is not one of them! They decided to re-open the moment the state of CT eased up on their requirements for wearing masks in gyms and sent us an email saying that Big Sky will be open . . . and safe!. My credit card was charged immediately. I communicated with the manager that I had to move to another state while they were closed and that even if I was still in CT, I wouldnt be comfortable returning to gym when we are awaiting the second waive of the pandemic! she said I have to pay because they re-opened and that they couldnt read my mind that I am not comfortable going to the gym where people are running and sweating in middle of a pandemic! I asked what her name was and She hung up on me.BigSky Newington should be ashamed for the way they treat their customers for an extra $27.
Nice and clean, great equipment, great personal trainers. Everyone is nice there. Doing there own thing. Unlike other gyms everyone is judging you. But here at big sky it’s a judgement free zone.
My favorite gym.
New equipment does not equal better equipment. They definitely got rid of some good stuff in upgrading, however there are some good new things as well, to include some specialty things like a SSB and chains. Not a fun place to be with any crowd of people there, especially younger kids. Decent gym with many things that could still be fixed
Great gym. Has everything I need.
Its a gym. Clean, well maintained with good staff and great trainers. But the older I get the more I wish they had defribillators on hand.
This company ought to be ashamed of itself and should be fined and penalized by the State of Connecticut. My wife whose membership was set to expire in June, had to obviously stop going to this gym and thankfully her payments had been halted. Now While gyms are reopening, she does not feel safe returning due to exposure to other people, requirements of wearing masks while working out on machines, and not providing classes she likes to participate in. When she went to cancel, she was told that she had to honor the remaining months of her 12 month contract. My wife is being forced to pay out a contract when technically the contract was valid until June, and the gym is technically not providing the full level of services at a level of safety that is appropriate. Anyone who is a member of this gym and is in a similar situation should call up this gym right now and demand their contract be voided and if they choose not to I recommend reaching out to the state for further legal action. As a way to keep their employees out of financial issues, they have outsourced all their financial activities to a third company. Do not understand how this company keeps getting awards with the sleazy business practices they pull.
When I look back on the most important things that happened to me in 2019 I cant help but think that Big Sky and their affordable babysitting program isnt the best thing that could have possibly happened to my wife and I. This gave us life back. We were able to hit the gym all year. Not to mention, I have never been to a gym with more amenities, free classes, weights, materials etc. Constantly upgrading too. This place is huge and incredibly motivating. Hands down best gym I have ever belonged to. Special shout out to Kara and Taylor in the kids corner. Diego loves you guys!
Great Gym. ($22) a month gets you into all Big Sky Gyms along with 1 friend for free a month. Ive been to a few, nice environment a bit uppy but no judgment and plenty of trainers to help with a workout routine.
Was a member here for close to a decade but have to vent about the cancellation process. ABC Financial is incredibly difficult to deal with and cancel a membership(even though I was not under contract). I moved to a different state so no point in keeping a membership. Will have to have a credit card dispute as they still have not canceled my membership.
I have been going to Big Sky in Newington for over 10 years. All of the gym locations are great. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. They have great personal trainers, especially Rick who is an amazing trainer. The gyms are designed to have a lot of natural light so you don’t feel boxed in like a lot of older gyms out there. If you are looking for a clean and affordable gym that is fun go to then don’t hesitate to go to Big Sky!!
Great gym. I have been a member since 2009. Location of choice is Newington. Well-maintained facility with plenty of options. Love how a majority of gym goers re-rack weights so things are always where they are supposed to be.
Wish it wasnt so far from me! Loved it. Ok Im lazy but it isnt down the street which would prompt me to get up and go!
This gym is big and has a lot of workout options. Its also crowded but that can be motivational too because there are a lot of patrons in great shape. My biggest issue with the gym is the staff. They wont even acknowledge you, let alone greet you or say hello. I understand its a popular gym so theyre probably pretty cocky about it but thats no reason to abandon what should be the basics of friendly service.
I enjoyed my time at Big Sky while living in CT. The training here is fantastic, however expensive and unfortunate that they do not offer training discounts to returning members. I would recommend this gym to anyone looking for a long term commitment as cancellation is cumbersome and time extensive. Overall a decent gym, but is very busy and crowded, and smells a bit. 3 stars overall, but 5 for training.
The staff is very nice to me and the two free sessions that I got when signing up was helpful. The staff was extreamly helpful when my dad and I wanted to sign up. I was comparing big sky and la fitness and la was trying to sell me the most expensive thing they had and didnt want to mention something I can afford. I really recommend big sky for a place to start any fitness goals.
Big Sky is by far my favorite place to go and personally I dont really work out I can if I want to on the days that I choose to or I can just sit back have a cup of coffee read my book or get one of their smoothies or shakes and enjoy myself while my little buddy gets to play and I can see him in the room he has an absolute blast with his friends and gets that morning energy out its a great way to start my day I just in some ways which I actually have the time to work out its not preschool or intensive daycare but its an hour that I can view as my own
Great facility, group classes and trainers. My kids also love going. Staff is friendly and membership is affordable.
Been here13 years. Love classes and instructors and very clean. Change and add classes as public asks which h is great.
Clean place. Gets way too crowded at certain times, but if you get there on the off hours its good.
Lots of equipment and classes. However it gets really busy after work and with all of the group classes there isnt any room for someone to just do their own thing on the floor. Classes are great and the new spin bikes rock!
Went to work out everyday this week around people who dont wear masks while coughing and running on aerobic machines and almost nobody wipes down equipment after using it... not to mention people are videotaping others inside...
Great facility for getting your gains. When its packed with people working out, people are nice enough to share machines. Employees are very pleasant to speak with.
BigSky is a great group of affordable gyms. They have a wide variety of classes, and the gym space is clean. Weights are racked appropriately, and there are machines for every exercise. Also a solid selection of many different free weight/body weight exercise options. The staff are friendly, and the shake bar has some unique creations that are affordable. During peak hours it can get very crowded, and parking can be tight.
Great facility and training staff.
They should expand the spin room and install newer water saving water fountains. overall good exercise equipment, colorful place. Nice people.
The facility is nice with its equipment, however be weary of signing with a trainer. Very deceiving how they explain pricing. Also not impressed with childrens room where my grand daughter was injured and the staff member never went to inform her mother. My grand daughter told the staff she hurt her foot and later went to ER where it was found she had severe sprain. No injury report was ever suggested!
I love this gym. It is extremely clean, the staff are friendly and helpful, they have many different classes and I find I have to work hard NOT to stay motivated when I am there. I have been a member at 2 other gyms locally and this one is the best - hands down. They are also responsive to the suggestions I put in their suggestion box. I am frankly puzzled by the negative reviews. I have not had a problem with payments. I followed through with the contract I committed to. It seems like you may have a problem if you want to end your membership agreement early - so I recommend thoroughly reviewing the agreement before you sign it.
Good gym. Nice summer membership option for students that lasts until labor day. I come in at 4pm, a little crowded, but they got enough machines for everyone.
Great place to work out, but not if u want to tan. Tanning beds never ever work. Always broken. It takes them months to fix the beds. This is the big sky in New Britain only. Staff is nice though.
Its a good gym and has a juice bar section too.
I love this gym, its very clean and staff is great. I just wished they opened up at 5am, like the Simsbury Big Sky gym for those who like to get in a good workout in the morning before work.
I love this gym. Its hands down my favorite gym I have been to in CT. The trainers are great, as well as all the staff. Everyone is friendly and there is no pretentiousness! Very clean and updated.
Suitable for your needs. The juice bar is good.
When we went to find out about the monthly plans. the advisor told us that we will start with them and that we could cancel the membership at any time without giving any explanation as to why we were doing it. Three months later he sent the email with the cancellation and they tell me that I can not do it if I do not have a medical excuse or evidence that I have moved. This is a deception towards the client and I demand that this statement be immediately solved. It is an abuse.
The hours at the Newington Big Sky on Saturdays and Sundays are ridiculous for those of us who have only evenings open for the gym.Seriously consider expanding Saturday and Sunday hours (in Newington at least) until 9 or 10 p.m., respectively.Such a disservice to the human body to close so early on these prime days.
Nice clean place. Staff is nice. Good price.
After working out at another Gym (Work Out World) I switched over to Big Sky (Formally Court House Plus). What an amazing difference between the two! At Big Sky I felt like I was working out with friends in a much more comfortable environment. When the day came that I was transferred to Vermont (for work) I had to cancel my membership. A large difference between the gyms is evident today. I recieved great assistance and personal attention from Big Sky and they stated that they were sorry to see me leave. The other gym... I am still (12 months later) trying to get my membership canceled!Thank you BIG SKY!
Never went there
Great gym, always too busy...
THIS PLACE HAS FAKE “DUMMY” CAMERAS IN PLACE! PLEASE BE AWARE
I love the equipment the gym offers, the fact that they have two turfs and two sleds with trx rops is just a huge plus! The gym isn’t usually busy, and the staff is always cleaning around the gym all day long. I only wish they could be open a little later than 2 on Sundays.
WEEKEND hours are terrible... and the interior colors reflect the same....but overall great gym! Good people...good crowd...good equipment.
Although the gym itself is a very nice gym, their business with ABC financial who deals with payments and the memberships is a scam. ABC financial has ripped off many people including myself and fiance and have fought and ignored signed contracts and recorded phone call. Lawyers are now being involved because of this. I wish they used a different financial company.BEWARE OF ABC FINANCIAL!!!
Great gym, it offers a lot of different set ups for a lot of different types of work outs. They built this gym knowing everyone works out for a different reason and the staff are always welcoming.
Dont get me wrong, Big Sky is a beautiful gym for the price. The equipment is clean and well-maintained, and there are good classes available. Im giving it two stars however, because the clientele and some of the staff ruined the experience for me. I will start off by saying some (but not all) of the staff are rude and unfriendly. The newer girls that work there are probably the most polite, but I was lucky if I got greeted by anyone else.Anyway, here are the main things that bothered me about Big Sky:1. A lot of the people working out have zero consideration for others. For example, some people set up camp at the squat racks and DONT EVEN USE THEM FOR SQUATS. There are literally 4 pull-up bars and plenty of space to do dead-lifts and shrugs, yet people dominate the rack to do these things anyway. I get it if the gym is empty, but that is rare. Others dont put their weights back, dont wipe down the equipment after using it, and lets not forget the obnoxious ones who slam their weights on the ground despite numerous signs saying not to. I found that this rule is never enforced.2. As many people have said it gets CROWDED. Sure, you can try and visit during off-peak hours but theres a reason most people can only go during certain times (our jobs). The weekend hours are also very short; you have to workout before 5pm on Saturday and 2pm on Sunday. I finally walked out today and signed up for WOW because I was so fed up with having to skip my workout for the hundredth time since every single squat rack was taken. WOW only has one squat rack compared to the 3 at Big Sky but there is rarely, if ever a wait because people ACTUALLY USE IT FOR WHAT ITS FOR.Maybe if Big Sky enforced gym etiquette, had friendlier staff, and better hours I would have stayed, but who knows. Also, a tip for people having trouble cancelling their membership: cancel your debit or credit card that you used to sign up and order a new one. Worked just fine for me.
Great gym, best to go in off hours since its pretty busy during peak
Ive been going there for a couple of months. Things are pretty good. I love the shake bar, and I almost never have to wait for a rack or a bench - then again, I dont go after work, I go before.Although not awful, the showers could be a little cleaner. Also, it would be nice if they had a high-end percent body fat reader available to all members. Im a bit OCD, so when weights are out of place it drives me crazy, but thats more from select members being inconsiderate than the fault of management. For people new to fitness, they do have an assertive personal training program. Ive seen the program do great things for people.
Friendly staff, lots of machines and weights, great trainers, lots of group classes, very clean and safe. Has a great protein shake bar too.
Clean gym, Friendly staff, A good number of different types of Equipment, including larger weights, ropes, machines, and spaces to do your own thing. Also has some good classes from spin to kickboxing.
Great gym. Daily rates to come in if you are visiting the area.
Ive lost 70+ pounds, have unlimited Zumba and weight lifting classes, love the personal training, and have never had a problem with billing. (Actually, Ive bounced my membership a few times by accident and it was automatically cleared up! Easy!)My only complaint is that Facebook wont let me be in a relationship with Big Sky
Great gym for people focused on atheltetic performance. Reasonable price.
Extremely low quality gym. Bad equipment, trainers, parking ect. You have to jump threw hoops to cancel. I am being charged $500 because they failed to cancel my account even though I called them multiple times saying I was moving more than 25 miles away (the law is, they must cancel your account if you move 25 miles away). Their finances are taken care of 3rd party so you cant blame them because they will say its the other guys fault. Overall poor quality business inside and out.
Better than your normal gym with a plethora of equipment to use. Can get very crowded at times and odds are youll have to wait for something or deviate from your workout plan a little.
The gym is ok at best. ABC Financial is terribleto deal with. The employees make shakes and do not get involved with billing issues at all. ABC Financial also handles billing with other Gyms.
Abusive and dirty.
This place changed my life
Clean gym, modern, staff and personal trainers are awesome
I would not recommend this gym. It is clean and the members are nice but the billing situation is horrible. We were members for about 9 months and our billing was messed up every single month. Finally we just decided to block the charges and had to change gyms.
The reps are liars and tell you there is no contract. I have not even been with this gym for 2 weeks and wanted to cancel and the manager basically told me too bad so sad you signed up for 12 months. Now the account if I dont pay will be delinquent but not once did their representative explain to me I was under contract.
Clean, great equipment
Great gym to work out. Feels a bit like spring break Mexico lol
Nice facility and friendly staff, but this is the most crowded gym I have ever been in. It is nearly impossible to get a complete workout since most of the equipment is being used. CCSU is right across the street, so that explains a lot of it.
Big gym with a lot of great equipment. Can get crowded during rush hours so plan accordingly.
The hours really leave a bad taste in my mouth. During the week is OK open till 10pm but on the weekend Saturday open till 5pm! come on thats BS even more so about Sunday only open till 2pm super BS! BIG SKY FIX YOUR HOURS!you dont offer much more than a planet fitness, so the hours need to compete, huge disadvantage currently esp for the extra money you pay for big sky.
Best gym ever
Plenty of equipment, plenty of areas to get your workouts in
Great gym. Plenty of equipment.
Solid facility and great service
Good for all types of workouts
Dont bother signing up for this gym... The billing company, ABC Financial, are thieves.
Great place, great trainers
Machines are frequently in disrepair; very disappointing.
The gym is excellent!
Nothing but positive things to say, great staff, very clean. ..
Clean, lots of machines and weights, up to date, parking is bad at peak hours
Great class instructors
Very good place
Excellent service.
Clean good gym
Clean and friendly environment. Equipment is new. Classes are quality. Slightly pricier than some of the competition but you get what you pay for.
Awesome trainers!
Nice place
