After almost two years of homeschooling due to COVID, my son had low confidence, and no concept of being on a time limit to complete classwork and quizzes. The thought of being back in a classroom was stressful for the both of us. I decided to put him in Sylvan for the summer, hoping they could help him build his skills and confidence to be ready for fourth grade. In a matter of days, I saw such a difference in his confidence, and he was genuinely excited about going to Sylvan and learning new things. Sylvan not only helped him with skill building, they helped him feel confident and become more independent. I’ve never seen him so excited about school! We moved too far to continue to go into the center, and my sons only concern with moving was how he would be able to continue seeing his tutors at Sylvan. Thankfully, he can continue to meet with them remotely to continue skill building and get homework help! Thank you Sylvan, for sincerely caring about my son! The progress that has been made with him is way beyond what I could have hoped for! We look forward to a long partnership! I highly recommend Sylvan!

I want to start by saying that Jose and his staff are amazing. We had two children ages 6 and 8 that were struggling with reading comprehension and lack confidence in reading among their peers. As we know the pandemic was hard on both parents and children and with us being essential workers and having to be away from home made it difficult for us to physically be there and help them. So we came up with a plan to get them tutoring we did our search and found Sylvan Learning as one of the top tutoring centers on the upper westside. As soon as we contact them we got a prompt response and setup a day to have the kid’s assessed to see what were their strength and weaknesses. After the assessment Jose came up with a game plan of 4 hours a week for each child. Within a couple of weeks you can see the improvements in their progress reports and through conversations with their teachers. Fast forward 8 months our kids are doing exceptional in school they are independent readers and exude confidence reading out loud among their teachers and peers. Every time our son moves up another level in reading it is a Must I inform Jose about his progress so Jose knows he’s still working hard. The best part is seeing the joy, happiness and self-esteem soar as a result of hard work and dedication put forth by the staff at Sylvan Learning of Upper Westside. We will forever be grateful to Jose and his staff and we recommend any parents that has a child struggling with academics please give them a call. I promise you will not be disappointed.

My daughter (1st grade) took 4 months intensive reading classes and she loves reading now. She passed 4 levels. I highly recommend Sylvan. Through games and different approaches they make every class fun. Although it is expensive it is worth it.

My son has been attending Sylvan Learning on the upper west side for the past 6 months. The math enrichment has been very helpful to ensure he is learning the 6th grade curriculum and then some to stay ahead. The classes have allowed him the extra help needed in a more personal setting.I would recommend Sylvan!Thanks

Weve been having a great experience so far, its only been about a month and were already seeing improvements. The staff and the tutors are all really wonderful, helpful, and flexible.

We were referred by a friend and it was the best decision we made. Remote learning has been a a challenge and we needed help. Teachers are great, we’ve seen real progress in our son’s reading, more importantly he now is just a happier kid! José-is great!

Brought my 6 year old son there earlier this year when he was in serious need of reading help! The staff was extremely friendly and most of all they helped my son get to a point were he was on or above grade level! I definitely know that if I didn’t bring my son there he wouldn’t be where he is today! Thank you to Jose and especially Lisa for all their hard work!!!

My sons reading level went up 1 level in just over a month thanks to Sylvans customized learning program and individualized support, which targets the exact skills he needs support with! My son loves going to Sylvan and feels very comfortable with the staff. They know how to challenge him and keep him upbeat so learning doesnt feel like school. Coming to Sylvan has definitely helped him in school too. In fact, he is feeling very confident that hell be able to get into his 1st choice high school next year. Very good program . Knowledgeable educational . Very helpful to accomplish homework. I really recommend it.

Dont get me wrong, the Sylvan is quite well, but sometimes I would not receive any information back on how my child is doing, and as a parent I should know my childs progress since I am paying. Sylvan seems to focus on students understanding the material rather than trying to help them get better. I prefer Kaplan, they are understandable with what your child needs help with.

I have only good things to say about Sylvan. My daughter a 5th grader, was not feeling confident about her math skills and took an assessment test. The results were pretty encouraging but I still decided to go ahead and give her math tutoring lessons with Sylvan. She loves all her teachers (Dan, Peter and a lovely girl -- her first name escapes me), her confidence has been on the rise, her grades as well and I think she will be very well prepared for the upcoming State tests she needs to take in a few weeks thanks to Sylvan and their dedicated staff. Erin Brennan the Director has been immensely helpful also in finding me the right type of package (number of lessons needed etc...). I highly recommend Sylvan.

We started with the Upper West Side Sylvan in the fall to help my freshman daughter with math - and weve added science to the mix as well. The teaching has helped her grades significantly, and relieved our household of many frustrations. But equally outstanding has been the flexibility the staff has accorded us, handling the many scheduling changes our busy life throws at them with unending politeness and assistance. It has been, and continues to be, simply fantastic working with them!

Its a very great place that helps to improve the grades and also theself-esteem. The staff are very professional and know what theyre doing.

My daughter Emily has been attending Sylvan for about 4 months. I am very happy with Sylvan. My daughter is progressing in school. She has progressed with her reading. She looks forward to going to Sylvan on her scheduled days. She likes the teachers and she is always ready to work when she gets there. The staff is very pleasant and are always there to help if you have any questions. I definitely recommend this location to anyone.

We live abroad but were in NYC for five weeks this summer. I needed short term intensive reading support for my 7 yr old who hivers at grade level for reading. The team at Sylvan assessed her over a two hour period and were able to identify virtually the same weaknesses that her teacher had indicated to me at the end of the year. I was impressed. My daughter went two hours a day, five days a week. She never complained. She was happy to go, which I think speaks volumes to the atmosphere at the UWS facility. My daughters technical skills increased substantially over the five weeks and I was very happy with her progress. Most importantly though, her interest in, and love for, reading increased significantly. What more could I ask for. Sylvan isnt cheap but I whole heartedly believe it is money well spent. Thank you to Michael and his team for their superior efforts!

I came into sylvan learning center with the intention of getting an assessment for my six year old daughter. I was welcomed by the sites director, mr Matt miller who was friendly, professional and well informed. He explained the process to me and encouraged me to confer with my husband regarding the details of what might or might not be needed depending on the outcome of the assessment. After deciding to go ahead with the assessment he answered all of my questions and did not pressure me to buy a package of classes. He was genuine and honest in his recommendations. All of the staff I encountered were very friendly and made the process relaxing putting my daughter and myself at ease. The assessment was properly able to identify all the skills that my daughter is strong in and the skills that she needed work with. afterwards she actually told me that she had a good time and it was fun! Anyone with a six year old knows how hard they are to impress. I most certainly will refer my friends to this location and look forward to working with sylvan in the future. Thank you and mr miller and staff for making this a most pleasant and encouraging experience for us!
