Love this equinox! One of the best in the midtown area! Tons of classes along with well-trained front desk. Probably because of the pandemic, all classes and the training floor are not crowded at all! The equipment used for main studio can be a bit more clean though.

Fine. Staff is nice. Crowd is good. Good mix of equipment but could have more. Needs some updates. Part of the old generation of EQ and hasn’t gotten the new look like Flatiron or Greenwich. I am sick of the EQ hyper focus on their bad technology like the app. For Labor Day Weekend, they send out an email with the hours but when you click it it says “Today” (which is Labor Day) is open till ten pm. Not till you click to open more hours do you see that today’s hour are shorter and closing early. This along with all the issues their app has it’s just so distracting from the experience. For some reason at Equinox, luxury means overly complicated and cumbersome.

I decided to check out this gym and see what it’s about. I didn’t like the fact that the people who worked at the front desk acted like bouncers at a club. You pay more for this type of gym for service and cleanliness among other things. The staff was enough for me to be turned off. While the bathroom was clean, the equipments and the machines are always being occupied after work hours 6-7pm. It’s crowded and most of the people just sit around and do nothing. It’s a gym in the basement. No natural lighting and there’s no separation between the weights and the cardio equipment. I expect better if I’m paying for an elite gym. Will be taking my business elsewhere. Please train your staff on customer service and limit the amount of people who workout in the gym at certain hours.

New member at Equinox. I read the reviews here and was concerned about lack of light / space / COVID enforcement. I was surprised when I arrived to find none of this true.Yes, the gym is situated underground, and that is what it is. They do a great job at making the space look big and it is ALWAYS being cleaned/vacuumed/so-on. Diego and the entire staff have been more than friendly and helpful with anything we ask of them. I have not witnessed any shaving in the locker rooms (you must do this in the shower), and find that generally people are pretty good with their masks inside the gym and the locker room. Some of the reviews call for practicality, though, and if you are overly concerned about COVID-19, you should probably not consider a gym in the first place at this moment in time. We are all trying our best and it is fantastic to have a nice, clean place to work out at again. Every dollar is well spent here.

Nice facility. Staff is great. One Covid-related warning though: in general, members are mask-free throughout the locker room. (Gym floor is fine.) Guys shave in the open area in blatant violation of the rules. Cleaning staff claim they dont have the authority to enforce the rules. No other Equinox location seems to have this issue as far as I can tell.

While Equinox is a nice gym, I would caution everyone to read the fine print of the membership agreement, even if the salesperson makes you feel comfortable with these details. Since the rules have changed a bit, and I am not sure as to whether they are freely available on Equinoxs website, I will point out one that people who travel and move frequently will find of interest. If you freeze your membership, you pay a $30 fee for each month of the freeze and the full monthly membership cost. You only get the money paid for the monthly membership back after completion of your first year. If you move to another location, even one that does not have a club, such as Ithaca, New York, then you lose the $30 monthly fee and the monthly membership cost for each month the account was frozen. This detail is not listed on the notification card, which is attached to this post, but is most likely buried in the membership agreement somewhere. Its not as transparent as it should be, and so seems a rather unethical.

My journey with equinox started with an email. One day after going online and searching for the benefits to equinox I received an email from an equinox rep that worked at the Columbus circle location. After chatting back and forth with her and reviving a free 3-day pass I was able to go and visit the location. Upon arriving everything was a mess, the front desk was overwhelmed with members (why does such an expensive gym lack members?) and they were not allowing me inside without speaking to the person that had been emailing me. After numerous calls to her phone they decided to let me in and I was thrilled to finally start. Only one problem- I didn’t know how to maneuver around this new gym. So after asking a couple people where everything was at, i asked a front desk to help me around. She really gave me a hurried tour and then told me to just “find my way around”. That’s when I was like you know what ? I’m going to pay 200 for what ? To be in an overly crowded, dark, expansive gym? If it wasn’t for a rep from the Wall Street location (see my review on the equinox Wall Street google reviews) I would have never reconsidered this gym. The location lacks efficiency and mannerism. I’ve never gone to the gym and had my mood plummet.

I have a highly demanding job requiring me to work 12 hour days. So, Equinox at Columbus Circle is worth every cent. The staff at the front desk always greets me with a smile and humor. The music playing in the gym begins to get me motivated. The ultra clean locker room and gym floor makes it easy for me to find whatever I need, from towels to dumbbells. I was surprised at the negative reviews of this locations. Then I read them and realized their complaining about first-world problems.

Recently the volume of the music on the loudspeakers has been dramatically increased to the point of being unbearable. I cant even hear my own music with the headphones literally inside my ears, nevermind hear myself think. The place itself is at a great location and hard to beat. The only drawback is the lack of windows since its in the sub basement. The equipment and facilities are just like any other Equinox. Mostly clean and somewhat new. The proximity to apartment buildings make it a crowded place. This is also one of the few locations with a pool. The pool is small and crowded, 3 lanes, 25 meters long, and 4 feet deep. Water is a little green and highly chlorinated, OK if youre a die hard swimmer, but might be a little too much for the casual.SO... the reason why only 1 star. WARNING, this is going to be a rant.Worst customer service, ever. Befitting that they are in the Time Warner building, they must share the same customer service trainers.Ive been an Equinox member for years at the 43rd st location, loved it there. My company just moved to the Columbus Circle area and I was going to move my membership over to this location. What should have been an easy upgrade (READ MORE MONEY FOR THEM) ended with me cancelling the membership.Im there and ready to upgrade my membership to the all access pass since this place is called a flagship location and you cant get a localized rate. First the account services guy tries to make me pay the full price plus an upgrade fee, UPGRADE FEE!!! Its not good enough that Im willing to pay them more every month, they want me to PAY for the PRIVILEGE to PAY MORE. Then I kindly let him know that my company has a corporate agreement and I should be getting a discount with no fees. Guy tells me that my numbers are wrong and its higher then what I expected. The difference was not that much and I was somewhat OK with it so I agreed. As Im filling out the form, I let him know that I looked forward to working out after the paperwork was done. He then tells me no, I cant workout there until the next billing cycle. What am I suppose to do until then? Im not going back to my old location to workout. Not his problem and he doesnt care. So I ask for the manager and he tells me the manager will tell me the same thing. As Im sitting there wondering whats going wrong. Hes also sitting there NOT getting the manager. Then I insist and he disappears for a few minutes. When he returns, he tells me that the manager is busy with someone else and would not be able to talk to me. Then he asks if I was going to sign the papers. I tell him that Id wait so he should go get the manager. When manager finally shows up, he gives me a weird greeting and asks whats wrong. I go through the whole thing over again and tell him that Ive already paid for the current month, Im upgrading to the higher price, and want to work something out so I could work out there. He then tells me that if I was a new customer he could let me work out as a guest but since I was already a member, there was nothing he could do for me.In my mind, Im wondering what kind of manager is this where he already knows that Im a member and is willing to give them more money, yet not willing to make things right. After another few minutes of chit chat I kindly let him know that Id like to cancel my membership. He couldnt help me with that either and told me to go back to my old gym. My OLD EQUINOX gym. Is this not the FLAGSHIP EQUINOX LOCATION?!?Equinox, what is wrong with you that youd let a member willing to pay your high prices walk out the door because of 6 visits?

Ive been a longtime Equinox member. Columbus Circle does give you the luxury vibe - equipment, cleanliness and location. The downside, on the other hand, would be the inequities and discriminatory attitudes particularly toward Asian men from staff and other members. CC Management has been unwilling or extremely slow to hire and retain Asian employees. In all my years, they had ONE temporary Asian Assistant Manager, no Asian membership advisors, ONE front desk Filipino employee, no more than 1 Asian personal trainer at a time, 1 Asian maintenance worker, and 2 Asian group fitness instructors. Front desk employees and assistant managers would give Asians the runaround should he or she files a complaint. Then comes the notorious retaliation and made believe rumors to shun, harass, degrade and humiliate the Asian complainants. Personal trainers and group fitness instructors will get into your personal space throughout the gym as well as spread vicious rumors. Furthermore, they will give nonverbal cues of disgust, disdain, and/or unwelcomed behaviors - (1) turning his or her face to the side each time you walk pass them, (2) grimace expression of disgust, (3) facial and bodily expression signaling intimidation, (4) pushing him or herself directly into your workout and using the equipment, (5) and much more. If you file a complaint, take a photo of the document while youre standing at the front desk. There will be notations on your gym profile with a copy of the complaint or the front desk employee would simply trash it. Group fitness instructors will spread rumors from one location to another. Having a photo safeguards you and your reputation vs rumors. My advice for Asian men is to ignore and continue to show up to workout. That is why you pay for your membership whether its $100 (employer subsidized), $170 (corporate discount) or $250-300 (retail). Do not let them intimidate or harass you. You do not have to interact with them because they will never acknowledge your presence unless he or she is your personal trainer. Choose one who has a record of training and are comfortable around Asians, especially Asian men.Tips to Save You the Headache:Freezing your account - You can freeze your account once a year for any reason online or in the Equinox mobile app. You will incur the same monthly membership fee during your freeze if youre still within your initial 12-month contract terms. You will only incur $30 per 30 day freeze if youre outside of your contract terms or can demonstrate a medical reason. You dont have to do in person. It cant be done via phone or email.Canceling your membership - You cant cancel your membership if youre within your initial 12-month membership unless you move 50 miles away from any Equinox club or documentation from a medical provider. If youre outside of your contract terms, you will need to give a 45-day notice in person with an assistant manager or a general manager. Unfortunately, cancellations must be done in person. You can request by sending a certified return-receipt postal mail if youre outside of your contract terms. You will still be charged for 45-days from the date of your request.Locker Room Thefts - Minimize your chances by placing one hand covering the combo lock while you set it. If someone acts suspicious or hovers over you, leave and come back a few minutes later to move your items to another locker. Place all valuables inside the temporary small lock boxes located near the front desk.

I really wanted to like this location since so many people hyped it up but honestly, it’s very BASIC! The club itself is actually pretty small and everything is cramped together including the bikes in the cycling studio (there’s hardly any room to even walk to get to your bike) and in the main studio they do not have “pre sign ups” for most of the classes so they are severely crowded with little to no air circulating and you can barely see/follow the instructors because there are just too many people in the room. Also some of the instructors weren’t that great either. They showed no enthusiasm at all when teaching the class which makes it boring and pointless. Also the locker rooms aren’t big enough. There are not enough bathrooms. I gave it a chance for a few days but will most likely not return.

--Update--1. Equinox Corporate turns out to be very unhelpful, keeps asking us to resolve the matter with Equinox Columbus Circle, where the incident happened and the GM doesnt care. Very unprofessional.2. GM at Columbus Circle did not care, and chose to protect his lying/rude employees. The GM was supposed to contact us...but not until after 5 calls with Equinox Corp asking why no one was reaching out.3. Issue was never resolved.4. Assistant managers name may not be Catrina, but is something that started with a C.5. Avoid this place.--Summary--Front desk (Hanna) was rude and manipulative, assistant manager (Catrina) was extreme rude and lied to our face. Equinox Corporate (Corbin) was professional and helpful, but waiting for the general manager of this location to call us back to see if the issue can be resolved. Currently waiting for our refund and the status of our membership.---Details---I am not a member of the gym (although I was about to sign up since my gf is a member and Im about to move), so I was using the gym with my gfs guest pass. Upon entering the gym, front desk (Hanna) right away gave my gf an attitude, claiming that she could have signed me up through her phone app, which would have been much easier (fine). We then realized that Equinox deducted us for 2 guest passes instead of 1, so we went back to Hanna for help. She told us (again with an attitude) that this is not her problem and she cant help. We asked her if she could speak with her manager, she agreed but just stood there and did nothing. Eventually she promised that she would speak to her manager and talk to us after our work out. This is when the situation really turned south. After our work out, we spoke with the manager, Catrina. Once again, we had to explain her the entire situation, and she simply said call IT, I cant do anything, and of course with an attitude. She then pulled out my gfs guest pass history, noting that Ive used her guest pass 4 times, and said youve already used it 4 times in total, what do you want me to do? You are already taking advantage, because you are supposed to sign up after 2 times of use. At this point, we really got upset because we knew the 2 time use rule was straight up just a lie (which was confirmed by Equinox Corporate afterwards, as long as you have a guest pass, you can give it to whoever youd like). After calling her out by asking her to provide this rule in writing, Catrina became even more rude and aggressive, and said you are not a member, so I refuse to talk to you. I later asked for both Catrina and Hannas name, and said I would file a complaint against the both of them, Catrina simply responded with I dont think this is necessary and just walked away.Catrina was rude since the beginning because apparently Hanna told her we had an attitude (Hanna mistreated us to begin with and we were a bit frustrated, but Hanna gave us an attitude ever since we walked in and throughout). I just think its funny how Catrina believed a one sided story and labeled us as the bad people, and massively mistreated us by lying and disrespecting. The next day...We received a call from this location, saying that our membership will be canceled due to 2 incidents the day before. Management at this location only listened to the one sided story told by Hanna and Catrina, didnt care to find out what we had to say, and canceled our membership just like that. We are currently in the process of getting refund for 2 months, which they agreed to pay us back. After filing a complaint to Equinox Corporate, they said the GM of this location would contact us and try to resolve this issue. We are still waiting for their call and they were supposed to call us yesterday. We hope that the GM will be professional (like Corbin from Equinox Corporate), unlike Hanna and Catrina.---Aside---After reading some of the comments below, it appears that this location can be discriminatory against minorities, not sure if our experience here was related, but just a thought.

I have an All Access Membership, and I want to visit as many of these as I can, to see which one I like most/would like to go to.My interests are powerlifting, Olympic weightlifting, swimming, so my review will be geared towards that. This one might be possibly the worst Equinox Ive been to yet. For comparison sake, I have been to the following so far:West 92ndWest 76thHighlineEast 63rdAnd that sucks, because this ranks high up in terms of location for these gyms. Its an Equinox, its not terrible, but its on thin ice.One huge floor. But its very crowded. Two deadlift racks, I believe, two squat racks. A swimming pool, which was a bonus in my eyes. But it only has three lanes. Lol Equinox, Im sure you think thats a good joke. The one class I took in that pool was incredible, and I felt like Michael Phelps afterwards, in terms of hunger. They have the standard Equinox machines and amenities, but the lifting floor was very crowded and cramped, and I would not want to lift there. The Shop had a good selection of mens clothing though, so points for that.Out of 10:Size: 3Luxury: 7Equipment: 6 (possibly because the equipment is too close together)

The gym is fine. But for $230/month you would hope for a little better than fine. The fitness room at a Holiday Inn Express has newer and better cardio equipment than this place. The machines literally have connectors for first generation ipods. Furthermore, while the space is enormous, the layout is so ill-planned that it takes about 6 people to make the free-weight area feel packed. The locker rooms are nice, as is the pool, but both are often so crowded that it is hard to really enjoy them. The staff is very friendly, and the place is well kept and clean. They just really need to upgrade the equipment (have you heard of having TVs on your treadmill/elliptical) and reconfigure the space.

As one of Equinoxs flagship locations, this gym doesnt disappoint. Its large, all on one level, and offers a REALLY awesome selection of classes every day. Trainers and staff are friendly, which is not always the case at some gyms (mostly at NYSC gyms). Just one caveat, this gym is ALWAYS packed, even on weekends though the good thing is because it is so big and there is so much equipment, you dont have to wait for any machine or cardio equipment. Weekday mornings are the best time to go if you want to avoid the crowds. Some classes fill up so its smart to get there a 10-15min before the class. The lockers rooms can also get a little warm, which is something they are apparently working on.

So they said they have to verify the appt. Since they couldnt get hold of anyone at the spa desk they said they will try again very soon and to have a sit and wait. So I sat at the waiting area right in front of the desk. 10 minutes later still no action from the staff, I walked back up and ask and she told me oh I forgot. I am already not whelmed by someone telling me that they forgot about me whilst I am right in front of them the whole time. After doing my work out I have myself 15 mins to check into the spa to get my rob and sandals and filling out my form.So after waiting for 15 mins past my appt, I asked if I had the wrong time and then I was told my therapist is running late. The whole time I was waiting there, I should have been inform esp since the front desk know that was the case! What was frustrating was that never at any one point did the spa desk apologize or inform me that my therapist is running late with a reason for it even though she knew. There was no apology from the LMT either that he was late.Though the work from the LMT was sufficient but not something I would raved about. The quality of service was unacceptable.

The staff and half of the members could be summed up as pretentious, b**chy, judgmental, and rude.Tmpl Atmosphere - The owner, David Barton, is on the workout floor! He actually stops, greets, and gets to know you. The assistant managers also make rounds on the workout floor and greet members! The staff members greet you and try to make small talk. The members are easy going, nonjudgmental, and actually smiles and laughs.Equinox Classes - Disorganized. Members vying for space and will give you the eye.Tmpl Classes - Wow-factor spin class!Equinox locker room (men) - I can only comment on the mens locker room. For the past year, this location is just gross! They assign 2 workers per shift. 1 actually never works but stand near the entrance talking, eating, and texting for hours. The other takes care of the towels. Filthy toilets are not cleaned for days. The tile floor in the shower area is always slimy, very slippery, and filthy. Its like walking into a puddle of water during the rain. The maintenance worker mops the floor using 1 used bath towel taken from the dirty towel basket. He starts in the toilet and urinal area. Then moves to the faucets and locker area. No bleach. No cleaning solutions. Just a towel back and forth for hours. Then uses a towel with no cleaning solution to wipe the urinal. What youre stepping on is urine and potentially waste products splattered from the toilet. Sauna and steam room - cleanTmpl locker room (men) - Very clean. Maintenance workers actually use cleaning solutions!! Steam room and sauna are next to the swimming pool and coed. Theres a camera insideEquinox swimming pool - clean. Crowded during rush hours and members can be rude and inconsiderate.Tmpl swimming pool - clean. Not crowded. Members are considerate of others.Equinox Juice Press - Located at the entrance next to the elevator. Not worth the moneyTmpl Juice Bar - Located next to the mens locker room. Worth the moneyThe only benefit of Equinox is they have many locations in the city. Tmpl only has one location.Thats why I chose to leave Equinox Columbus Circle.

If you plan on using the steam room here be sure to bring a hazmat suit and boots as male masturbation is apparently completely Acceptable here . Managers and locker room attendants have clearly been told to turn a blind eye as multiple complaints have gone completely unheeded . Steer clear !

No natural light on the workout floor, and pretty small. But has a dry sauna and a pool, which are both fairly rare for equinox.

Not the best equinox in NYC. A bit crowded and not very well maintained. Locker rooms can get very crowded as well. The only upside is the indoor pool.
