Perfect location. So close to the Central Park and the subway station is right at the corner. Love the brownstone neighborhood and the beautiful park avenue. And the best of all, even though it is in NYC, this place is quiet.I stayed in the rear library suite. The room is beautiful and neat, though it is not slightly different from what the pic shown. The kitchen is small, but has everything I need. The bath room is newly renovated and looks pretty. A lot of closet space too, which is definitely a plus. The owner, Lia, and her family are wonderful. I got a warm welcome and enjoyed conversation with them. Lia also generously agreed with my requests, which makes my stay a lot more comfortable and convenient.Overall, highly recommend!
Perfect stay in the Parlor Suite. The location is incredible - safe neighborhood, quick walk to Central Park/museums/restaurants/grocery stores/shopping, and close to two subway stations with different lines (63/Lexington and 59/Lexington). Lia and family were very kind, communicative, and helpful. The house was exactly suited for my needs, and I loved my stay there. Also, it couldnt be decorated any cuter - the house/rooms are adorable. So happy to have found this place. Would highly recommend for extended stays in NYC! (Also, eat at the Tavern across the street before you leave - some of the best food I had while in NYC.)
Great neighborhood and friendly hosts! Loved the restaurants and stores in the area and close to Central Park. The apartment was very charming, quiet at night, and a stunning view of the townhomes across the street. I would highly recommend to guests looking for a cozy stay.
I stayed in the 1871 House for 6 weeks in the Front Library suite and absolutely loved every aspect of it. The location is perfect, comfortable, safe, and the place is absolutely beautiful and clean! Additionally, those in charge of the house were accommodating and easily accessible. Most definitely recommend staying here!
I could not have asked for a better place to stay while in NYC. The owners are incredibly kind and take very good care of the accommodations. The prime location is an added bonus and makes the experience even more enjoyable. I cant say enough about the 1871 House and I highly recommend it to anybody looking to temporarily relocate in NYC.
I am an artist who recently stayed in New York at 1871 House for two months during the run of a solo exhibition in Chelsea. With two subway stations within a short one or two block distance, the location was incredibly convenient and made getting around NY very easy. With the Upper East Side being a somewhat quiet area in comparison to other areas I have stayed, I never experienced loud noises that might affect sleep during the night. There are many good restaurants and grocery stores very close by. As a woman alone in Manhattan, I always felt safe in the area and the house. The hosts of 1871 House are lovely people, very friendly and helpful. Though they live on the main floor of the house, I rarely saw them, unless we made arrangements to meet. Any questions I had were answered promptly by email. The whole house is very quiet and only once ran into other tenants in the hall.I stayed in two suites- the front parlour and the rear library. Both were very comfortable for an extended stay with kitchen facilities, sitting and work areas. Both suites have big windows with lots of light and high ceilings, making it feel quite spacious.Decor is very fitting for the time period of the house. Housekeeping came once a week, arranged at my convenience.I highly recommend an extended stay at 1871 House. Great landlords, great brownstone, great area, and the best deal in Manhattan!
Over the years my wife and I have made frequent visits to Manhattan to visit her relatives. In that time we have had the good fortune to have stayed at some of the finest hotels the city has to offer. But few have come close to the caliber and attention to detail we experienced on our last stay at the 1871 House, between the Upper East Side and Manhattan. Its perfectly located within walking distance of Central Park or the Rockefeller Center. We rarely even took a cab.The suites are as tastefully decorated as you ever see, and the staff is as attentive as Ive ever come across. Do yourself a favor......dont miss this oasis of civility in the middle of Manhattan.
A new home away from home when in NYC for us. We had a weekend college visit with ourdaughter and some friends. The Lexington Suite was truly fantastic and comfy. The 1871 house is so warm and inviting as wasthe entire staff and owner Leah.Zoe and Stephanie are just truly amazing.Everything was just as described but actually in person everything surpassed our expectations. The stairs for us were a welcome work out!Highly recommend this hidden gem and cant wait toCome back. A big thank you to Zoe for arranging everything so beautifully!
A lovely accommodation in a lovely neighborhood! We stayed at 1871 House for three nights and were 100 percent pleased. Our room was comfortable, clean, and a true City oasis. It was also very spacious and had a kitchenette and large bathroom. The location is superb. You can easily walk to Central Park, Fifth Avenue, and Madison Avenue. The management was readily available and responsive to all of our requests.I miss 1871 House already!
We first heard about 1871 House from a good friend who has traveled to New York on a regular basis. We wanted to get away from the craziness of midtown so we booked this upper east side accommodation based on her referral. We were very satisfied to say the least. Situated just off Lexington & 62 Street East, it was perfectly located to feel like you were part of the NYC community without all the tourists. Metro options were only a block or two away to whereby you could easily access all of the boroughs. The accommodation was very comfy & the service team were nothin short of 5 Stars. Small grocery stores were only steps away to provide simple breakfast options for our parlour suite. There are too many dining options to mention, but Zoe and the 1871 House staff have a great list of restaurant recommendations. We will most definitely be coming back.....
My husband and I are Manhattanites who needed a home away from home while our apartment was being renovated. After a discouraging hunt for a short term lease through Leasebreak and Airbnb, we thankfully stumbled upon 1871 House. From our first contact with Lia, the resident owner along with her husband Warren, we knew this was the real deal. Lia invited us to stop by to see the studio apartment before making a decision to stay there. The Rear Library met our needs and fit our budget. There were no surprises when we moved in. The studio apartment was quiet and cozy, equipped with a modest but workable kitchen. There was plenty of heat, hot water, and available internet connection. We could not have been in a better location, close to subways, buses, shopping and many of the cities best cultural offerings. Lia and Warren attempted to address any of our Concerns in a timely fashion and see to it that we were comfortable. My only caveat about staying there is the stairs. There is no elevator in 1871 House and the Rear Library is two flights up. If you stay here, pack light as you’ll be hauling your things up and down those stairs
Pricey but soo worth it! Staying in an authentic New York house! Also good part of town (safe, classy) with very easy access to the city center
I had the pleasure of staying at 1871 House over New Year’s Eve weekend and it was everything as described and more!! The booking process was a such relief after trying to book on other online hospitality sites and having rental fees tied up without actual confirmation of availability. The house is perfectly located near the subway, bus line and a quick 3 minute walk to Central Park. Our suite was very charming and cozy....a nice retreat in the middle of a big city. The decor in the house is beautiful and well thought out. The staff also did not disapppoint, Zoe was friendly, knowledgeable and reachable during our stay... even on New Year’s Day. I could go on and on about how great it is, but you’ll just have to book and see for yourself. They’re highly recommended!!
1871 House is my favorite NYC extended stay hotel! Located on 62nd Street between Lexington and Park Avenues, I cannot imagine a better location. I am near the best shopping, best food, my mid-town office, and minutes from Central Park. The townhouse is situated among grand single family brownstowns, each of which is truly magnificent.Different from the customary hotel room, my suite was decorated with an antique bed, mahogany armoire and leather settee. The rugs, window treatments and linens were equally tasteful and inviting. I felt comfortable yet special. I loved having my morning coffee at the marble topped table looking out on 62nd Street -- it is a great spot to people watch and simply enjoy NYC.The Raums made me feel welcome and provided great advice about local restaurants and transportation. They are tremendous hosts and I will definitely return to the 1871 House!
Remember the golden ruleNever pay for something sight unseen no matter what the hotel says.m
