Theyre amazing at what they do. I gave them a dress on a Thursday and told them I needed it by Saturday, because Id lost weight since Id first bought the dress and didnt realize it until then. They had my dress ready for me the next day, and tailored it so well you didnt even notice theyd worked on the dress. The staff is extremely pleasant and friendly. I highly recommend them to everyone
I’m very suspicious of the reviews I read. Turnaround time was a week for minor alterations and the price was exorbitant. Price gouging during covid no less. I get that people are struggling but don’t take it out on the customer. If you like paying double for half the quality this is certainly your place.
Don’t go anywhere else. They are artists here. I trust them irreplaceable suits, sport coats, pants, etc. They aren’t cheap, but that’s not what they’re selling. If you want your clothes to fit beautifully and revive vintage finds - like the Gucci suit I just dropped off... this is THE place.
Omg! My daughter had a sequin prom dress with a train. The train was accidentally fully removed. I asked that it be replaced not knowing how that could possibly be done without seeing the separation. I dont know how they did it. These people are amazing! They added it back on with no sign of stitching. The dress looks great!. I recommend this place to anyone.
These ladies did a wonderful job with my wedding dress. They were extremely careful and thorough with a delicate job. Its also a lovely, friendly environment. The job took about 9 weeks start to finish with 4 fittings + pickup, but if Id needed it in a rush Im sure they could have done it faster. I recommend giving them several weeks with complicated jobs though. I was able to easily schedule and re-schedule appointments around my workday. I will be back next time I need something altered!
Silhouette and profile did an amazing job with my wedding dress that needed some last minutes alterations. They literally saved the day for me. They accommodated my timeline making the alterations in only 2 days and did an amazing job. I looked terrific and I can’t thank k them enough for it.
The 3.5 star average they have on Yelp is more accurate. The positive ratings here seem fake. They are exceptionally rude. Because there are few tailors nearby, they seem to get away with awful customer service.1. They are very expensive.2. They charge different prices for the same tailoring depending on who sees you.3. They often over-promise and under-deliver. For example, they often take much longer to complete alterations than they tell you. So if your receipt says pickup will be ready Friday, expect that it may not be ready until the following week. I had an alteration that was weeks late.4. They may tell you your alterations are ready, then when you arrive to pick them up, only half of them are ready. However they do not tell you that until you arrive.5. They may tell you they are closed for renovations, when in fact they are taking customers who have higher priced alterations.6. They only accept cash and checks. No credit cards.7. They are VERY RUDE and treat their customers poorly.8. Check each time you pick up your alterations to make sure they actually did the work.9. Ask them to write the price for the alterations on the receipt before you leave your clothes there. Otherwise they might quote you a much higher price after the alterations are made.10. I would absolutely not recommend this place given their consistently rude service, exorbitant prices, late completion, inconsistent prices and mediocre tailoring.
Amazing dressmakers/tailors. These women pull off the impossible. Always extremely satisfied with my alterations. Everyone is always nice and very accommodating. Highly recommend!
I had a long tulle wedding bridesmaid dress to alter. Bust was too tight and hem needed. First these kind people were so honest to tell me my dress had removable pads in the bust, saving me costly alterations to the bust. They could have easily sold me on an expensive fix to let the bust out.Second they did a quick, great job with the hem on fabric that is quite delicate. So reasonable too!
The women at Silhouettes & Profiles are nothing short of magic. They took a wedding dress that I bought at a sample sale and completely remade it to look like a custom gown. It started out tattered with literal holes and was at least six sizes too big. They worked tirelessly on it until it was perfect, fixing every little flaw. They even altered what was a long, dramatic cape, into the perfect veil. Theyre not just good at what they do, they are passionate about it. I highly recommend them for any tailoring needs; large or small.
Really professional place. The exact place you want for your wedding dress. They are honest, precise and super talented. Would highly recommend!
They were great. Small little place. Dont leave anything to the last minute though, or at least make sure they confirm theyll be open when you need to pick up. That was an issue for me. Ill go back to them.
Did a great job for my bridesmaid dress! I took in the waist and chest area of my dress and it was $40.They take awhile since they have a ton of customers, so if you cant wait for at least a week to ten days, then go somewhere else.
They took my mothers outdated and old wedding dress and turned it into something beautiful for me to wear to my own rehearsal dinner. They charge fair market value for quality work. Dont come in looking for a cheap alteration because they are all pros and excellent at their craft. Ill never go anywhere else.
Excellent service and skill! Highly recommend this place. No need to go anywhere else. The staff is nice, efficient, and know what theyre doing.
They were nice, quick, reasonably priced, and willing to help, but they didnt do a particularly good job taking in my dress. I had to go back and have them refit it, but it still wasnt quite right and I didnt have time for a third fitting. They did the second round for free though, so that was nice.
Awesome place! Very quick (my long bridesmaid dress was finished within 10 days), professional, and good at what they do. Wish I had before and after pictures!
Customer for many years. They are the best.
Friendly and professional service. The workmanship on even the most fragile fabric or fancy ball gown is exceptional! I would not trust my alterations to anyone else!
I find the ladies who now run this shop very rude! When the old owner was still there “Claudette” the shop would welcome every body. Now the people working there were quite discriminatory .
I had a terrible experience, and I will not be returning here.I’ve taken away a star for each of my complaints. They are as follows:1. They have poor customer service, and are rude and impatient.2. They are unprofessional and do not follow agreed upon deadlines. Instead, they send you a text message notification when your items are ready (this would be convenient, if it weren’t days after the date upon which you previously agreed).3. They are expensive. And only take cash or check.1. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND RUDE:When I initially called to make an appointment, the woman on the phone gruffly told me that they were overbooked, with a tone of exasperation at even taking my appointment. Still, she booked me in.During my appointment, they constantly rolled their eyes and made exasperated, impatient comments, stressing that they were overbooked. At first, the seamstress took up the straps too much, and when I asked her to release them she rolled her eyes and argued that it would be too big in the chest with longer straps, rather than making the straps a comfortable length and adjusting the chest to fit after. Only after I argued with her did she agree to do this. When I complained about the dress coming too high under my arms with the shortened straps, she loosened the straps a hair and then looked at me expectantly, but did not offer any other solutions or make any other alterations.2. UNPROFESSIONAL AND UNPUNCTUAL:On my initial phone call, despite her complaints, the woman on the phone assured me that they would be able to alter my maid of honor dress for an upcoming wedding in a timely manner.During my appointment, despite their complaints, they again confirmed that they would be able to alter my dress in a timely fashion. I notified them of my event date and saw the receptionist write it down. I even offered to pick up the dress at a later date from the few other clothing items I had brought, as I had come well in advance of my event. They agreed and barely thanked me.I went to pick up my dress yesterday (a day later than we’d agreed upon) and it was still not ready. Luckily, I am neurotic and had scheduled my pick up for a week before my event, because otherwise I would have been one panicked bridesmaid. Additionally, they are closed for the majority of the next week due to a holiday, so they had to rush my dress for today— and I had to cancel a weekend away to pick it up on time before the wedding. When I finally picked up the dress today, they made no apology. For being so clearly overbooked, you’d think they would turn away customers that they knowingly can not accommodate. Instead, they overbook even more and then do not have items ready by clear deadlines.3. $$$$$I paid $308.00 for 3 items with minor alterations: my dress, which was hemmed and straps shortened (it needed more, but that was all they were willing to do with their busy schedule), a second dress that was hemmed, and a skirt that was taken in (poorly—it’s very obvious where they removed fabric and does not sit right). I will say, they did a great job on the hem of my maid of honor dress and kept the train a perfect length. Good job there. That said, for how much I paid, I did not get my money’s worth. They sped through alterations that could have been improved with a little patience, they were rude and argumentative, and they did not have my items ready on time. That is 3 strikes for me, and I will not be returning. For those who do choose to use silhouettes and profiles, my tip would be to go with EXACTLY the specific alterations you need in mind so you are prepared to advocate for them. Also request your items be ready FAR in advance and before you actually need them. Also bring cash or check and be prepared to spend.
Declined to alter the bodice of a dress that I needed for a funeral because of overbooking. Asked if it could be done in four days time and was told no, sorry.
Altered My marchesa notte dress without any hassle - perfectly done! Would highly recommend these lovely ladies. Def will go back :)
These ladies are amazing. Not only do they repair and restore vintage gowns, they can also take a size 12-14 down to size 2. Although often times you may have to wait a bit for your items to be ready, you can also be ready to be fully satisfied with their flawless work. However, this morning when I realized that the hem of my couture gown, which Im planning to wear to a wedding the day after tomorrow, has torn, they told me to bring it right over and that they would repair by next day 3pm and steam the gown as well. They are detail oriented and their work is flawless. This is not your chinese dry clear fixing your hem or lining and theyre not a store front, so find the building and go up the second flight, make an appointment or wait a few minutes if someone is ahead of you. Once you see their work youll never use another tailoring service again. My mother comes from upstate NY to use them. Once she lost 30 lbs and had them re-do a ton of her things, including vintage Chanel pieces.
Efficient and expert high end altero. If you have a valuable clothing item- sentimental or expensive item, they are the go to place for alterations
I asked to have the lining in my favorite leather jacket replaced. Id been really reluctant to hand it over to other tailors Id spoken to for fear theyd ruin my jacket. S&P did a great job! Id definitely trust them with other expensive items.
Its in an apartment zoned for industry. The place has a very personal feel.
Theyre the best in the city! Ive brought things to them before that I thought would be impossible, but they did it,
