No AC since July. Its September they are finally coming to fix it this week. Since the beginning Ive dropped $600 for fans and a portable AC. Also had to take an elderly parent to the hospital for heat exhaustion.

This company is complete fraudulent. When Matt came to my home he was nice and pleasant, went over the next step. Which now I see was an act. I have American Home Shield and they are a vendor for them. Matt told me my pan was cracked and I would need a new system, the same thing two other companies told me. He also advised because American Home Shield only pays for low grade system, if I want a better system my cost would be 3,500. I was fine with that and would of used them. Then a week later I get a email from them stating that the cost would be 4,547.00 out of pocket. I called the lady told me she cant discuss pricing and that is my out of pocket cost. I asked how much is AHS paying she said we have not gotten an approval from them. I called AHS they told me they never sent over a report. AHS called them to send over a report, well because I did not approve the upgrade system they lied to AHS and Matt told them that my system if working fine and that I have 3 pounds less of refrigerant and I declined it told Matt I said a friend was putting it in. That is a bold face lie and they lied all because I did not agree to pay 4,547.00 out of pocket. This is the worse experience I have ever had with any company and I have never seen such lies and fraud.

Horrible experience! I called for an appointment because my AC Unit stopped working. They never called me back, nor did anyone reach out to me via email either. I had to call someone else, because after waiting days for a phone call, the heat in my home got unbearable. If you have someone else in mind to use, then youre better off!

They are reliable, trustworthy, professional, and know what they are doing. I will not have any other company service my HVAC system when needed except Family Heating & Cooling.

Last year I had this company to install a heating system. The guys that came out were very nice guys or so I thought. Matt came out first and on the second visit both Ed and Matt came out together. However, in doing my yearly maintenance on my system last week, i called a very reputable company out. This company told me that, I should file a report with new castle county code enforcement because there was no input/output valve installed as well as no switch installed next to the heater in case of emergency. I was told that only an unlicensed company would do this because it would have had to be inspected by the county whenever a new heating unit is installed. Then, I called Choice Home Warranty, who sent out a contractor that they had. Without, knowing anything found the same problem as the previous contracting company and said the exact same thing. I am a senior citizen female and knew absolutely nothing about the details of the installation that should have been done initially. Last week, I reached out to family heating and cooling. I explained to the woman that answered the phone what I was calling about. I left my information but no one called me back. Choice Home warranty assigned this company to me. Evidently, no credentials were checked by them. Now, I am stuck with a out of pocket bill to pay for the modifications. I paid previously out of pocket the entire bill for the new heating system. Now I have to spend more money to bring my system up to code. I WILL file a report with the county so that this doesnt happen again to another senior citizen. I truly misjudged these guys. I thought they were nice and fair. Unfortunately, I will not call them again. I will leave that to New Castle county Code enforcement.

I’ve used these guys for years and have recommended them to several friends after they had either gotten outrageous quotes or bad experiences with other companies. I’ve worked with Matt, Jack, and Ed all of them showed up on time, we’re professional, gave reasonable quotes, and were able to fix the problem in a timely manner and go above and beyond to ensure everything was done properly.

Family Heating and cooling came out to provide a second diagnosis on my, furnace. The problem was explained and Matt went out to the truck got the part and fixed my furnace in 10 minutes. Unlike a previous company in the area who claimed it was not fixable. Thank you Matt great job

I cannot say enough good things about Family Heating & Cooling. They were extremely responsive and really saved the day for our family. We lost AC during the heat wave with the heat index above 100 with small kids in the house and they did everything they could to squeeze us right in even with their busy schedules. Matt even went out of his way to call on a Sunday to help assess the issue. They really saved the day and truly care about their customers!!!!

Last week we had no air conditioning in our home. We called a larger HVAC repair company and when they finally were able to come out 3 days later, they immediately wanted to sell us a new heating and AC unit. We then called FAMILY and Ed came out the very next day. He gave us his honest opinion and an option that did not require a whole new unit. Within 15 minutes we had our AC running! I greatly appreciated his timely response, his down to earth demeanor, and his great fix to our issue! Thank you so much ED & FAMILY HEATING & COOLING!! We will definitely call them first if we need anything in the future!

Was assigned this contract through American Home Shield. Our heater wasnt working in the middle of winter. It was five days from the time they were assigned til they came to our home.After they diagnosed they said they would submit to AHS so we would know the cost out of pocket and get fixed ASAP. I had to call several times over the next 7 days, no response at all. I called AHS four times, they tried to get a response, and got none. Finally today I got an email from them We got your email, we will look into it and get back. Finally I find out they submitted a request to AHS to replace the entire furnace (which is less than 7 years old) and costing an exorbitant amount of money.Ill add that prior to signing up for AHS and setting up the service call, we had already had our loyal maintenance company come out, who gave us a far less quote, so I can only assume there is something fishy with this estimate. It was only after I reported them to AHS I noticed all the bad reviews.

Company would not confirm replacement date appointment even though they were advised 6x that I would need to travel 4 hours to be there. Company never showed up. Never called. Cancelled American Home Shield service and hired local company. Worst imaginable service and communication. Tried to be cooperative and polite knowing that anger wouldnt help but that didnt help me either. . They dont care. A $6800 retail repair was replaced with a $1998.81 cash out offer from AHS. Faction of the cost but better than dealing with a company that wont return calls. If they cant be honest about their position and interest they clearly dont care about you. Dont keep giving them the benefit of the doubt as I did, itll just delay your repair with a reliable service.

This company was scheduled through AHS and was horrible. Never called to make appointment then showed up at my house at 1pm apologizing for not being between 8 and noon, I had no idea they were on the way! Then he did ZERO work and spent less than 5 min in my attic but said it all worked great, fixed nothing.

The water pump broke on my a.c. and the shut off valve didn’t work and water leaked onto the carpet in the adjacent room. The owner Matt came on the holiday weekend and diagnosed the problem and returned with another pump. So grateful!!

Our air conditioning stopped working the first weekend of August when it was soooo hot. Matt came out on Sunday morning and diagnosed and fixed the problem quickly. Even though the system is aged, Matt didnt bother us with a sales pitch for a new system which we greatly appreciated. If you have AHS, Id ask for someone else. The last time I used them they gave me some weird reason for why I had no hot water (I have an oil furnace) and that I would need an expansion tank (which I dont) and they would contact me with a price. Never heard from them again. I had an issue again with the furnace and no heat/hot water so I called AHS and they assigned this company again. They called yesterday to tell me someone would be out today between 8 am and 1 pm. No one showed. No one called. Nothing. I called and left a message. No return call. Its now 7:30 btw. I am now sitting with no heat and hot water, again, and this was supposed to be expedited. Maybe they do an amazing job if they are getting paid and not doing warranty work. I dont know. But if you want them to be expeditious for warranty work or to call you back... Good luck.

During the heat wave I called Family Heating & Cooling in panic when I came home from work and found it was 88 degrees in my house. To my relief within a couple hours the technician was here. Jack was polite, courteous and very knowledgeable. He quickly fixed the problem and had my AC running again. I highly recommend Family Heating & Cooling for all of your heating and cooling needs. Recently had our A/C coil replaced by them. After first having another company come out and misdiagnose the problem (or rather not look for it at all) we had Family Heating & Cooling come out. The technician was very thorough in checking both the condition of our central air system and looking for the problem which turned out to be a leak. The technician they sent was both punctual and friendly but most of all he got the job done. So far weve been very satisfied with the service that they have provided.

A horrible experience. Family Heating and Cooling was the company sent out by our home warranty company, American Home Shield. They lied about the condition of the unit likely to collect the $125 service fee. Neither myself nor AHS was able to reach anyone from Family Heating and Cooling who could provide any information. A little background: we had our home oil heating unit serviced in December. We have had it regularly serviced since we’ve owned the house starting in 1996. Well, just this year, we rented out our home and on Jan 7 the heater stopped working. We reached out to the home warranty folks, and Wes from Family came out and looked at the unit. Two days passed and NO RESPONSE or communication from Family to the home warranty people. I tried calling both family heating and cooling and the warranty company. After calling the 302 number multiple times someone finally picked up. I believe her name was Mary Ann or possibly Marilyn. She said she was new, and would try to get a hold of the owner, Matt. I asked her for Matt’s direct contact information. She said Matt was forwarding everything to her and she couldn’t even get a hold of him. I told her multiple times it was an emergency, since it’s below freezing and there’s a winter storm coming to Delaware as I write this, We needed the heater fixed immediately, or at least a response given to the home warranty service so we could go forward with the claim. She told me Matt was having trouble getting back to clients, and she seemed flustered. I think it was all a lie. We never heard back from family heating and cooling, And the home warranty people, after four days, finally told us they were able to get a hold of Matt from family heating and cooling. Matt told them we did not maintain the unit, and there for the claim was denied. Matt out right lied. Steer clear from this company. They are immoral, don’t respond to calls, and are not a decent company. We ended up going through another local company who fixed the heater properly.

Our home warranty sent out this company and the young man that came out to look at the unit told the warranty company it looked like it had been hit by a lawnmower (his opinion) Not to mention the unit was 28 years old and completely needed to be replaced so of course the home warranty company refused to pay to have it replaced thanks guys really appreciate that I see I’m not the first person who complained about it

***update 5 July 2019***Thank you FHAC, for reaching out and apologizing for the previous service that was provide. They were more than willing to accommodate us for our troubles and I can really appreciate that. We were serviced with 2 days of our initial rating and I am choosing to upgrade their rating.*this was the previous rating*We use AHS, and they sent this operator out. After his initial check he ensured us that the diagnosis would get sent ASAP to AHS because the previous contractor did nothing. It’s been 3 weeks and 5 calls and numerous message later and we still have no A/C. Let’s just say a lawsuit for breach of contract is being drawn up. The owner of the company could care less about how he conducts business. It’s the dead of summer and our house is almost unbearable. If I could give zero stars I would.

THEYRE THE BEST!!!I cant say enough good thing about them. Ive been working with them since mid 2018 when they got assigned to us through AHS. I was an inexperienced first time home owner and freaked out of anything that broke down in my house (even if its simple to fix). For my very first request with AHS, they assigned me Family Heating & Cooling to fix my AC unit (it kept turning on and off by itself). The guy came out the next day, fixed it in 20 minutes. My AC was back to normal after that. In the next few days I noticed the air didnt spread evenly throughout my house, I called them again (still within the first request). They came quickly and checked it, told me its just the way it is (my house is built in 1965); and that they can come back to check again after few days (and they did). They closed/opened some vents in my house and helped the air distributed better throughout the house.The second time I requested service from AHS for my central heat because few rooms in my house got cool air instead of warm air (during winter time). The first contractor from AHS came and said nothing wrong with it and refused to work on anything. I contacted AHS and asked for Family Cooling Heating specifically. They came and found a leak in the duct. After they fixed it, our rooms got a lot warmer.The third time (lol I just realized everything in my house just broke down one after another) I requested service through AHS for my water heater cuz it was leaking terribly from the tank itself. The contractor they assigned never contacted me, so they granted me an option to find my own contractor. I contacted Family C&H again; even though they dont work with AHS on water heater, they still helped me by coming to my house for the diagnosis and contacted AHS (I talked to Horizon as well but they said its a hassle to work with third party, and they didnt want to do it). Matt (am I spelling your name right?) got accepted for my reimbursement from AHS quickly, and they came out the same day to replace my water heater with a new one!!!I think Ive had their service enough to say that theyre very responsible with their work and always willing to help you. I know Im a little annoying sometimes for bugging them about my problem, but theyre so patient and get the work done a lot faster than I thought. I just moved to Delaware, and Im glad I found them.

Matt was on time, honest, and he fixed all the issues we had with our air conditioner unit. We had a clog in our condensation pipe, he diagnosed and fixed the problem. Now Hes going to install zoning to fix the lack of cooling we have upstairs. HIGHLY RECOMEND!

My ac started acting up on july 1. We have a warranty and family came on july 6. It was a bearing, they cleaned the unit and sprayed lubricant it was working fine. Less then 10 days later we had to have them come out again because the ac kept tripping the fuse, they came out july 16 and fixed some wires and it seemed ok. We had to call again on the july 17 because it was still tripping the fuse.they finally came out about july 24, they took serial numbers off the unit and said we needed a new compressor. They would get and come back out. On july 27 they come out and the guy says the compressor they wont fit. The unit is to old for replacement he needed to get more numbers off the unit and submit the request for a new to insurance company. We have been in constant contact with family and insurance company. Family has yet to submit request for approval as of august 7. We have requested a new company but the insurance company had to file complaint against them first because they failed to submit the request in a timely manner. Family is slow in getting here, they wont return any of our calls, and erica must be a simpleton because she says she has no idea whats going on. Then she shouldnt answer the phones. The insurance agent put her on a direct line with the approval deptment and she hung up on them instead of getting approval. I would NEVER, EVER recommend them to anyone.

Very disappointed with todays service. I had to wait seven days for them to show up, and when they did, they rushed through and left without diagnosing the root cause. He said he added a few ounces of freon and was leaving, but then I asked him to find the leak as well. He refused and said systems lose freon all the time without there being a detectable leak. Nonesense. I asked him to come back and to see whether the system was losing the freon he just added. He refused. I asked that he check out the evaporator and the coils to see if it was dirty. He pulled two screws to open the cover by a fraction of an inch and declared that the coils were clean without bothering to inspect.
