What a wonderful experience renting a car in Nantucket. They met us at the ferry terminal with the car, which was a new Camry, and then met us back at the ferry station when we were leaving. It was just SO EASY, and very reasonable.If I’m lucky enough to go back to Nantucket I will definitely use this car rental company again.
We rented a 4 door Wrangler for a weekend in June 2021 and everything went smoothly. The vehicle was clean and worked perfectly for 4 people and a golden retriever puppy. The alignment was a tad off, but was only noticeable when you were driving on Milestone Road. Would rent from Windmill again.
I rented a 4WD to get out to the Great Neck Lighthouse for afternoon shots of the area. For this there is a spot to deflate your tires down to the desired 15 lbs of tire pressure so you can get traction in the loose sand. The rental was a good vehicle for getting there with no problems and way more room than I really needed. Many people go out there along the beach on the Atlantic side of the point to surf-fish strippers, etc. overnight. I went in the afternoon so the light would be lower to the west which tends to give more richness to the light, plus there are more dunes and land to the west which can create more interesting imagery. When you return back by the pressure pump you are expected to re-fill the tires to the recommended tire pressure. All told it was a great adventure with no needs for getting unstuck. I did get a few shots from the east, but not many as there was less in the foreground. The dunes and plants to the west created more foreground interest. Although there is one shot from the east towards the west which shows a low woody shrub in the foreground. It would be a great place to overnight to get PM and AM shots. Unfortunately I did not have the time. There was a fair amount of dune grass, but there was also a substantial amount of low woody shrubbery on many of the dunes and that those shrubs may be surviving on aeolian (airborn) water while the plants on the flat ground tend to be sparsely spaced, non-woody, with bare sand between and get less water.
I wouldve given 0 stars if there was an option. This company had the audacity to charge me $34 for fuel over one month after returning the car. I know I returned the car with a full tank and its not the customers fault if the company doesnt check everything at the time of return. On top of this, this guy on the phone was rude and condescending and tried to argue with me. He said they dont have to check anything. If the company continues to employ such staff, customers will steer clear because there are better options to choose from. I dont know how a fuel bill will prove anything. It doesnt show the fuel level when I returned the car. Needless to say, Ill be disputing these charges with my credit card company and will never rent from these guys again. Stay away from this company if you dont want to be swindled.
One star is too generous. Called inquiring about rates, and I found them condescending and abrupt. Taking my business elsewhere
Rented a Rav 4 for a business trip for 2 days. Car was clean and smelled great. Bluetooth connectivity, lane departure warning. Shocks were amazing over the cobblestone historic center. Girl at the front desk was sweet, caring, and polite. Easy process. Will rent again.
We reserved a Jeep online. It was a straight forward and simple process. Picked it up at the airport where they explained the process of driving on the beaches, signed the documents and we were off. The vehicle was in pristine condition and performed flawlessly in the deep sand. Would absolutley use them again.

They showed up right at the ferry dock precisely on time with a sweet ride (Jeep) that I had asked for. The staff member was polite, loaded my bags into the vehicle, gave us an overview, and was on his way. It’s was seamless. Thank you NWA!
Rude customer service. No basic customer service etiquette. She’s seems like she’s don’t want to be there. Incident happened 6/9.
DON’T rent from Nantucket Windmill Auto Rental. I drove less than 20 miles on the car across my 6 day rental period and returned the car in the same condition as I received it. Two days after I returned the car, I got an email from them saying that I destroyed one of the tires and needed to pay for the damage. They sent me pictures of the car from two days after my return- how do I know that they didn’t ruin the tire after I returned it and blaming it on me? They’re demanding that I pay them without providing me legitimate proof or even an invoice from the tire repair shop. My entire experience with them has been concerning. Do not trust this car rental company. Even if they appear to have a cheaper rate than competitors, you’ll pay on the backend.
Great experience! Jeep was new and clean. They met us at the ferry gave us the keys and the Jeep and we were off. We returned at the airport, which was just as easy as pick up, park next to terminal and drop keys at the kiosk inside. Highly recommend! Will use them again!
Very rude no professional, we rent a car over the week,the worst place to rent car the guy over the phone is so rude,we have to drop off the car in the airport and he told us going to drive back to the boat, we get there. He said cant do is my responsibility to get taxi and can back by my self so rude never again!
Woman who answers the phone is extremely rude. i deal with them very often for business. Rates are reasonable, and cars are always available. It is just hard to get over how one person can be so rude consistently.
If Hertz still has cars, stay away from Nantucket Windmill Auto Rental.We just rented a car from Nantucket Windmill Auto Rental this past weekend. Nantucket Windmill Auto Rental was the only dark spot in an otherwise wonderful weekend.The car was fine. But as folks who have been to Nantucket will tell you - its not the experience itself that will get you - its the logistics of getting there and paying for it.Windmill was more expensive that the other options (but the only cars left) and complicated our logistics.Moreover, the staff was consistently rude.Before we returned the car, we called to inquire as to when the free shuttle to the ferry (as advertised) would be running. They said the last ran at 4PM. So we showed up at 3:30 to leave plenty of time. When we got there, the rep behind the desk informed us that it would be an hour and a half (5:30) before she could get someone to take us. She then said that we should have made arrangements before getting here if you wanted the free shuttle. When we explained that we had called ahead of time she said well, theres nothing I can do for you.We ended up paying for a cab.
This rental worked out very well. It was a good rate and very convenient. They dropped the Jeep off at our rental cottage and we were able to drop it off at the airport.
I dont understand the bad reviews, from the first time I called, the girl who answered the phone was kind, explained pricing and everything. They even dropped off our 2 door jeep where we were staying. Their prices are the cheapest on the island. We recieved a clean low mileage 2018 jeep. We put the soft top down and drove all over the island, at the end of the day we drove up to Great Point on the beach, watched the sunset and drove back on the beach for an amazing experience. The next morning they even picked up the car for us. We will definitely be renting again from them. 0 complaints, they couldnt have been anymore accommodating
Fantastic ExperienceOn Friday of the Memorial Day weekend we arrived on Nantucket where we were greeted with a new Jeep ( the kids loved it) right at the dock. The great service, coupled with the new vehicle, helped make our time on Nantucket, special. Will always use Windmill, in the future!

We visit Nantucket often and it has always been a wonderful place and we have met many friendly merchants and inn keepers. We went this past weekend for the New Years celebration and everything was great until Sunday when we attempted to return our rental car. We called from the inn to let them know we were taking the 10:30am ferry instead of the 1:30pm and would need for the car to be picked up or a ride back from the airport to the ferry. The woman working told my wife she couldnt guarantee a ride and we would have to figure it out then she actually hung up on us. There isnt enough space here to describe how rude, condescending and insulting this woman was when I arrived at the airport. When I asked her why she was being so rude she said I was born this way and have no intention of changing. She then proceeded to tell me I was almost as bad as the August tourists. All I can say is I would rather walk then ever deal with this company again. I sure hope whoever owns this company realizes what a terrible person they have as the face of their company. She managed to turn a beautiful weekend into a nightmare and we left the island frustrated and angry.
Arrived by air a few yrs ago and was given a minivan with a side view mirror hanging alongside the drivers door. When I pointed this out to the rental agent having had to walk back to the building from the distant lot, I was told ok we will make a note of it, do you still want to take the vehicle anyway? I was shocked and told the female agent that it is illegal to operate a motor vehicle without the drivers side, side view mirror, and she just shrugged and appeared annoyed. Because I had family with me and a young child I accepted another vehicle but not until I had personally inspected every aspect that I could before signing the paperwork.. Never again A cab from airport to town and rent from Affordable Rentals, was what I did from then on. Affordable Rentals have always been top notch.

The lady who handles the phones on Sunday is very rude. She needs to be taught how to be kind considerate and thoughtful.
Looks like the Jamaican guy is so mad he thing do you a favor to us when we rent a car so rude, first time and last time never again!
