Does not even deserve one star!On Sept 6 I phoned to inquire about rates for a car. I asked two questions what are your rates and how much in advance do I need to rent, as I am not sure if I will need a car for two or three days The response from the agent was Do you want the car or no? Dont waste my time with your questions and then he hung up on me! So - not only will I NEVER EVER rent from them, but have filed a complaint with Better Business Bureau and the Nantucket Visitors Center. #nantucketislantrentacar needs etiquette lessons!
I booked a rental car, a mini-van months ago for two weeks this summer because we could not get ferry reservations for our car. We were waitlisted but nothing came through. I found out I had an opportunity to get a car ferried out there but many days after we got there. So I emailed to find out what the cancellation policy was and what would happen if we returned the car early. the reply from John was they have a weekly minimum. I wasnt sure what he meant so I reached out again to ask if we would lose amount for the full 2 weeks. His reply was I can see where this is going, your reservation has been canceled. I was shocked! Who treats a customer that way?? would never use this business again!
Very disappointing. I rented a jeep for a weekend on the island and returned in good shape and unharmed. Man said i was all set and he would put top up for me as I needed to rush to ferry. Walked around jeep everything was good. Company claims Jeep damaged charged me over 700!! for a small link they claim needed to be replaced on truck!! I was never called never notified and when I called the office they were not helpful at all! They sent me a copy of a new bill!! Crazy and scary.. BE AWARE! I will never use them again. Very sketchy rental company.
We had a great experience with Nantucket car rental and Kenny who arranged everything. The vehicle was new, clean and reasonably priced. We arrived at the airport not thinking we would need a car but at the last minute decided we did. Kenny helped us get everything set up quickly. Additionally when it came time for us to depart we realized we needed boarding passes printed for our tight connecting flight out of JFK. Again Kenny was able to do this for us while we returned the car. Definitely would’ve missed our flight without his help. Many thanks. We will be using Nantucket car rental on our future visits.
This was my first time renting from this company and it won’t be the last. Ken, who took my reservation, was so helpful and willing to have me picked up at the pier by Duane who also works for this company even though the ferry came in later than they would usually offer this service. And then I discovered that my suitcase never made it onto the ferry and I didn’t know how I was going to be able to get it from my parked car in Hyannis over to Nantucket. I was talking to my friends while Duane was driving us to get my rental car and he very generously offered to get the suitcase for me by taking the ferry back to Hyannis that evening and then bringing it to the rental car office for me to get the next day. This unselfish, kind man went out of his way to help me and insisted that I not pay him for his time and trouble to do this. Ken & Duane are outstanding staff for this company and I can’t thank Duane, in particular, enough for his kindness. I will definitely rent from this company in the future when I annually go to Nantucket and I’d encourage greatly that other people do the same.

Just returned from a week in Nantucket and used Island Rent-A-Car. These guys are great! Really helpful, easy to work with. I rented a Honda PIlot for the week and added a Jeep for a day to drive on the beach. Couldnt have been easier and was cheaper than Hertz. Would rent from them again!
If rude surly counter help is your thing.... you have found the right place. Called to find out about the jeeps and where they could be used. The person who I spoke with was completely unhelpful and downright rude. On the other hand I found other places to be very helpful and less expensive I get to choose who I spend money with.... I would walk before I did business here.
We rented a car last minute and they took great care of us. It took maybe between arriving and leaving in a car. The car was nice (Toyota Corolla), and very clean.I will certainly use Windmill again!

I have to agree with the other person doing a one star review.I called and the guy on the phone was a shocker, cant reserve and when I asked he said I was wasting his time and hung up.
Roger tracked me down and ordered me to bring the car back immediately or he was calling the cops, because I removed the soft top to the jeep. At no time was I informed that I should not remove the top, which is designed to be removed. He said it was in the back of the contract but he never produced the actual contract. I take good care of things and treated it like my own. Yet he repeatedly threatened to call the cops on me (as if they would do anything in such a dispute.) I put the top back up fine and he demanded that I drive out to the airport again and prove it. We thought he might be a bit looney and it was a huge unnecessary inconvenience and interruption to our vacation. Ill find a different company next time.
If you are looking for a place that will not honor your reservation and be rude about it in the process - and then hang up on you - this is the place for you! Don’t waste your time with these jokers - go to Young’s.
Great service! Very friendly and changed vehicles with pleasure when we wanted something else.
