We recently moved into the apartment complex towards the end of last year. Prior to moving, it was hard/difficult getting hold of the previous property manager, especially the day we moved in.However, the new property manager, Jill, has changed our opinions/views of the management team. She has been responsive, helpful, knowledgeable, and most importantly, truthful when going to her with issues/needing guidance. Her ability to accomplish and complete tasks and concerns brought to her has been astounding and breathe of fresh of air vs the previous property manager.Originally, our thoughts for the apartment complex was a 3-star rating (beautiful place, but previous management team brought the rating down), but with Jill in place, she has singled-handily changed our views and we now give the apartment complex 5 stars.
This apartment complex went above and beyond for us when my partner, roommate and myself were tenants, and also went the extra mile when we had moved out. I had a package delivered to me after I had moved out and Jill the office manager was kind enough to take time out of her day to go to the post office and forward the package to my new mailing address, and even took the risk of covering the cost upfront until I could Venmo her.The three of us relocated out of state during the COVID shutdown which was our reason for leaving, however I would highly recommend this apartment complex to people in the area looking for a new home. Aside from the awesome service Jill provided, the complex offers great amenities and has a great modern feel, not to mention the location being great with downtown Mountain View only being a mile away!
I loved living at Birch Creek, it was overall a good experience. Unfortunately, one of the staff tried to receive twice the amount of the replacement fee for changing room mates. You only have to pay around 400 dollars to replace somebody and they tried to receive twice 400 dollars. I read the contract carefully and pointed that out so that is really not ok. I have to give 2 stars for this due to a lack of honesty... Otherwise, I enjoyed living there.
My mom managed this apartments years ago! its nice to see its still running. i miss this place. the upgrades r beautiful and hopefully i will come by soon and take pictures and meet the staff. i miss it so much!!! great times. sadlly my mom passed away shortly after leaving the property.
Is the place nice for the price? Yes, its cheaper than most but at a cost? As a guest, I loved the spacious apartment and we were able to enjoy the amenities before my bf moved out. I liked hanging out there because the outdoor area is so nice and it was a nice place to study. We chose to live somewhere else because management is a pain to deal with unless you are trying to sign a lease. We decided to take our 30k contract where you don’t beg for email responses, walls aren’t so thin and you don’t have to deal with broken washer and dryer machines. I used to feel so bad for my boyfriend doing laundry in the common areas I would just take his clothes with me. I wish everyone luck in this place when downstairs neighbors get mad at you during any time of the day because they think you are being loud on purpose. We had a conversation with friends last night about his experience there and I truly don’t recommend the headaches to anyone if you can just avoid it.
This place is HORRENDOUS! Management STOLE from my apartment in a scheme with general contractors. They literally ENTERED my apartment without permission trashed my apartment, ripped down the blinds, stole an IPHONE, IPAD, several expensive cologne bottles and my FitBit.I reported the incident and they later apologized and tried to blame shift it on general contractors that were on site. THIS PLACE IS DISGUSTING. They tried REPAY me by providing free rent - if you dont want to be ROBBED by management stay the hell away from these CROOKS!
Do yourself a favor folks and DO NOT live here. They made my sisters life so stressful during her time living here. This place is full of scammers. They are already reported by various people in the county for trying to overcharge upon move out without any proof (look up all their reviews on other websites, theyre terrible). The management is an absolute nightmare. They truly do not care about keeping residents and always claim they are busy and never respond to emails but when I contacted them to book a tour, they were quick to respond while still ignoring my sisters concern. It is also ironic how quickly they are to respond where everyone can see it online but not in a private email. Terrible management.
Biggest regret of signing a lease here is not doing enough research before I signed... Only thing holding this place at a current (not deserved) 3.4 stars are very old reviews....I guess the management was actually good at some point. I would love to see the hiring criteria for their current staff. They are so unprofessional and unresponsive. No matter what you need, you cant count on them. I had to go through their UDR customer service to get the leasing manager to answer my email. Stolen packages are common, absurdely thin walls, upgraded apartments are only the appliances because the finishes are not professional. Hot water is nonexistent. You also see rats at night when you walk around the complex.
This is a decent place to live! We got a really good deal for our place, as we moved in during the Christmas time. The amenities are great. My daughter loves playing at the clubhouse. The gym is small, but good enough to have a great workout.Morgan, the office lady, helped us through all the process for our immediate move-in. It was a piece of cake to move in the same day as we applied. She also gets along really well with my daughter.Francisco the maintenance man, is also quite handy with some small issues in our units. He also gets along really well with my daughter. In general they make us feel like home :) They dont only provide a good place, but also a good community!
Terrible management team that does not compensate for leasing an overpriced apartment that has non existent water pressure, no running hot water (if you are lucky you will get lukewarm), dirty appliances, old board frames, paper thin walls, no microwave in the kitchen, popcorn ceiling and a patio where you get absolutely everything that falls from your upstairs neighbors. No matter how hard you try, leasing manager and her boss will not respond to your emails. Very unprofessional and careless.I had verbal communication with a member of maintenance and he said nothing could be done about the water pressure. Also, when my upstairs neighbor clogged the pipes, my kitchen sink was left clogged for over 48 hours. Why have an emergency line if no one will contest it? For everyone reading this do yourself a favor and stay away from unit 5.
Morgan made the experience of choosing a new home, sight unseen, from Boston extremely easy. She took the time to listen to my concerns, followed up with extra photos and information not available from the website, and was constantly giving me updates on the move in process. I spoke to several complexes in the area, and I knew that this level of attention would make my move so much easier. The apartment is gorgeous and the complex is nice and quiet.
I love Birch Creek. Morgan in the office is an angel! The consultation was super pleasant. She helped us navigate the application process, making the whole experience feel warm and personal. The grounds are beautifully landscaped, bringing nature pretty much to our front step. The apartment is super clean and spacious. The whole place feels like a nestled haven in the middle of the city.
Birch Creek is nice to live. We particularly like the natural environment. Every night, my wife and I like to show our son around. He likes to stand on the bridges and watch the golden fishes swimming in the creek below. There are also many flowers blossoming everywhere. Every time we pass a flower, my son will step forward and try to smell it.The service is also great and timely. Our service requests were all handled within 24 hours. The clubhouse is also nice for playing games or studying, depending on the time of the day. There are also sauna room in the club house, this looks great though we havent tried it yet.
Dan Johnston and property management are very sketchy. Expect things to disappear without notice, bed bugs and rats everywhere and property management scams. Stay away
I will be honest, I am writing a review as a current resident solely because of how amazing the staff and service is here at Birch Creek. I have lived here for about 8 months now and have lived in 2 different apartments at this point. I transferred because we needed another bedroom, not because of any problems. I came on here to leave a review mainly for the staff but after seeing some absurd responses I will also speak to the complex and apartments as well.As far as the staff goes, I could not be more pleased. Morgan, the resident services manager, is PHENOMONAL. She is kind, responsive, accommodating, and genuinely cares about providing a quality service to the residents and potential residents of the complex. To the people complaining about on-site responsiveness and unprofessionalism I would say two things: (1) Be patient and follow up frequently. She is only one person but is doing the job of at least 3 people dealing with residents, leasing, and a lot of other administrative stuff daily. (2) UDR offers many ways to communicate to resident services via Text, Email, Phone, etc. Make your problem known, follow up, and I assure you that you will hear back. I have never had to wait more than 3 days for an issue and that was over a weekend. Morgan is an incredible asset to this community and I disagree wholeheartedly with anyone who says otherwise. The on-site maintenance crew is also incredible! This place is in top shape solely because of the hard work of Francisco, Marco (Thats my dude!), and Chris. They are professionals at what they do and also genuine people who I enjoy talking to quite often. When I have had maintenance issues (Water pressure, stove/oven problems, patio issues), I submitted a service request and it was resolved the exact day that I scheduled for it to be fixed. Scheduling maintenance is also super easy through the UDR app so to those who are experiencing problems and only reporting it to google reviews and not submitting a service request, you played yourself. As far as the community goes, I want to clarify a few things. I hadnt intended on leaving a review on this component, but the incredibly inaccurate statements I have read deserve to be addressed. I walk my dog several times a day and over the past 8 months I have not once seen a single rat. Big squirrels? Sure. Rats. Absolutely not. To the comments about thin walls and apartment quality. I rarely hear my neighbors with the exception of them going in and out of their front door. In my experience, the community here is generally respectful in terms of space and noise and I have experienced very minimal issues with inconsiderate people in the community. Also, as a note, if you are expecting complete and total silence in your home, maybe think twice before moving into an apartment complex. As far as quality goes, my first apartment here was not renovated and my current unit is renovated so I can speak to both and both are of very good quality. Yes, the renovated unit is nicer. Thats the point of a renovation! But the unrenovated unit was also a great place to live and we had little to no issues there. Finally, the community is a beautiful place with many trees, flowers, walking paths, and even a Koi pond that make it more than just a bunch of apartments strung together like most complexes around here. On top of that, there are many amenities including a heated pool, hot tub, clubhouse, and several gas grills that are all well maintained. My only point of criticism is that the complex should have the grounds keeping crews come in more often as the leaves and droppings from trees accumulate fast and can cover walkways.Needless to say, I absolutely recommend Birch Creek! The staff is made up of exceptional people, the apartments are of great quality and size especially for their price for this area, and the community is more than just a bunch of apartments stacked on top of one another, its a beautiful place to live!
Contact the California Department of Consumer affairs if they try to illegally charge you for professional apartment and carpet cleaning, normal tear and wear and WHATEVER else they come up with. They are already reported there. This place is hell on earth. Terrible communication. Lack of professionalism. Noisy apartments. Stolen packages.
Tldr: They charged us for unreasonable damages upon move out. See screenshots of issues attached.Grievances:Upon move out, we were charged with paint costs and cleaning costs and carpet cleaning costs. We agree that perhaps we could have helped cover the paint charges but the other charges were unreasonable. The room cleaning charges and the carpet cleaning charges should have been covered by the complex as normal wear and tear. Especially since we were confined for 8 months! Its ridiculous. My roommates and I got a bill of 400.15 at the end of our lease and we were not happy. They sent us a 76 page document of issues most of which were items or small imperfections that were present before we officially moved in. We will be filing a report with the District Attorneys office for predatory pricing and putting them on a watchlist for tenants rights associations and fair housing non profits. This is a lower level offense but something that shouldnt be overlooked or accepted by future tenants. Please see a snippet of the 76 issues we were liable to pay for.Just be mindful about what the expectations are for the condition of your apartment on move out if you live here. Some Positives:Ill start with the positives. Birchcreeks on site manager was great. Morgan is her name. She was kind and responsive when you could get a hold of her. Im not sure if due to the pandemic access to management was limited because they werent on site in the office as often but from July - Oct 2020. It was a little hard to get a hold of them immediately but they eventually got back to us always. She always answered our questions thoroughly and helped us through any necessary paperwork. Great proximity to Safeway, trader Joes, Kohls, and Walmart (San Antonio Shopping Center) and Costco and Ross in the other direction. Good proximity to bus lines, Google quad campus and main campus, and Stanford.Zora
UNPROFESSIONAL, unresponsive, incompetent, lazy management who DOES NOT care about their residents once they sign the leasing papers. They take up to 3 weeks to respond to any concern you may have after MULTIPLE follow ups. Hot water is nonexistent, no sink pressure, thin walls, rats running around outside. Looks nicer in pictures than real life.
Just for fun I looked Birch Creek Apartments up on the internet. It was my first apartment that I ever had when I moved out of my parents house at 18 years old. The rent was $575.00 per month for a one bedroom, one bath with a big patio overlooking the pool. Of course that was back in 1982 and the place seemed a little old even back then. Im surprised to see it still standing! It did however bring back quite a few good old memories. I used to work at the KPEN Radio station that was located inside the Old Mill Mountain View shopping center. I heard that they tore it down which is kind of sad. It sounds like they have a new shopping center close by however.
Extremely happy with the location of Birch Creek Apartments- especially with the proximity to the shops and stores at San Antonio Shopping Center. The office is extremely helpful- had a mailbox issue and they had maintenance look at it asap. The apartment itself is nice, clean and oriented, it helps that the center of the compound is green and welcoming with the creek, fish. Really appreciate the multiple trash sites, and laundry sites (wish it was in unit!) but the admin is super helpful in updating us on anything happening on site be it event or construction related- so were very pleased to be up to date!Great community, no noise, and clean and exceptionally well-maintained!
Birch Creek is a nice community of apartments. They have great facilities, such as gym, swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna, a very nice communal area, parking spots, and quite a lot of nature around the community. The apartments are pretty nice, although some of them have old furnishings - I think this is the only thing that Birch Creek needs to address. Apart from that, the customer service is great! Everyone is very nice and helpful, including the maintenance team who jumps in to help whenever necessary. The Birch Creek team also organizes quarterly themed events (i.e. Christmas, Valentines Day, etc.), which is great as it helps engage all BC residents and is a great way to connect and make friends. Keep up the great work!
Have been living here for a year and think the complex is not particularly bad. Maintenance requests are managed quickly. Staff is pleasant. Laundry machines use a debit card which is super convenient. And rent is unfortunately pretty high.
Very responsive management and a beautifully nestled community. Happy to call this place home!
I am really satisfy to living here and I renew my rent for next year.House is little bit old but the environment is really nice. There are a lot of trees and plants here and quite almost every time. And the pool and gym is great.
Living at Birch Creek definitely has a few highs and LOTS of lows.- beautiful, mature landscaping. The grounds maintenance man works really hard in his weekly visit to make it very nice- good location- fairly good layout of space- staff is QUICK to respond and act (I would give most of the staff HIGH marks)- fitness center and community roomnow the lows ...- VERY expensive based on what you get- very OLD property with the original single pain windows and plumbing- electric floor heaters, no a/c- You hear almost EVERYTHING from your neighbors. If you are on the bottom floor, it is painful hearing constant walking over you, when they take showers, having sex, etc. If they water plants or pour out water, it will rain down to your patio- There ARE rodents on the property. RATS/MICE were a frequent sighting, even though there is pest control. (rodents love the ivy) You can find a video of rodents on a patio there via Yelp under another user.- Students will pile into apartments over the limit (and not on the lease)- You pay high rates for their water/electric fee, as well as pay the other required electric rates.- It is true that quite a bit of your deposit will not be returned, but they are very UPFRONT about that fact.- It is a SMOKING property. There is a city ordinance to protect non smokers in community areas, but that rule is CONSTANTLY broken with zero consequences.
I absolutely love it here at Birch creek. The staff is always helpful and they do a very good job keeping up with the place. Its beautiful and quiet just the way I like it.
This apartment was awesome.Convenient location, reasonable rent, and available for International residents.
Birch Creek is a peaceful, serene complex with great landscaping and waterfalls. The staff are very attentive and friendly. Good location for access to San Antonio center, easy to get on 101, etc.
Unprofessional staff. Not worth the time or money.
It is a great place to live considering the cost of living bay area. It is pretty quiet, friendly people, and pet friendly community.
I really love this place. :)For the price and location it was far better than anywhere else I looked and somehow it feels like I have a piece of nature around me with the wonderful trees, wooden bridges and koi pond in the middle. Also I love that it has a heated pool, hot tub and gym with reasonable hours. :)
Birch Creek overall is a good place to live, grounds are decently taken care of, facilities work well most of the time, apartments are a bit old and rent is definitely too high for what you get, but still not bad.BUT, it will take a lot of time dealing with the front office. When it comes to something as important as a lease or charges, and given how simple it is, youd expect things done correctly. That is not the case here.Just this August I asked a charge that no longer applied be removed from my monthly rent. Got a confirmation from them that the charge will be removed. Come September, checked my statement, I was charged! AND I am scheduled to be charged for this in October. Anything you ask them to do you will have to waste your time double checking. This is not even the worst example. My latest lease I had to re-sign 6 times because they kept making mistakes in it, either wrong charges or wrong dates. For example my lease had TWO (!) charges for going month to month. How can there be TWO identical charges and for months to months when I am actually signing a yearly lease? I pointed that out, got no response for a while. Eventually they came back to me and said it is normal and once I sign charges will be removed. Weird, but ok, I signed. Then I looked at my upcoming statement and the charges are there! Not removed! Then they wouldnt respond for weeks! Had to call the central UDR office to get them to respond, cancel the lease and re do it.This was just once instances, there were many more like that.Basically, if you want to leave here, prepare to waste a ton of time when it comes to charges or your lease signings, because you wont be told the truth, or it wont be done correctly, or they plainly wont respond.
Property manager (Alexis) is unqualified and never available. God forbid you get into a conversation with her where math is involved, your head will explode. You have to go above her head to get anywhere, and even then it’s an uphill battle. I reported an apartment flooding, and no one was even in the office, I had to call an emergency maintenance number. They had a “will be back by...” sign that was over an hour off.Stay far away from this place. It was built in the 1970’s and has single pane windows and paper thin walls. Walking too hard on your floor will send shockwaves through the apartment that will rattle your windows. Termites have eaten away at most of the deck materials on the balconies and in many places you can peel wood from them like styrofoam. If that weren’t bad enough, they got rid of their only true benefit, visitor parking. They now intend to charge for it while keeping their ridiculously high rent. I have filed an official complaint with the corporate offices at UDR.
It is the worst apartment ever. It is full of bed bugs and very old apartment with weak infrastructure. We had to leave with bad terms as they charged us with exorbitant amount for bed bug treatment which was not brought by us. Other day I heard from friend that bathroom ceiling fell down which non acceptable at all. But the management said to my friend that it’s tenant fault as they didn’t take precautionary measures. So guys beware before renting please think twice or thrice.
The unfurnished unit I rented (1 BD/1BR, no AC) was way overpriced ($2,177/mo) in comparison to better residential areas I searched; unfortunately, there were no units available elsewhere.Michelle Imahara, the community director overcharged me over $1,800.00 on 2 different occasions, and when I confronted her, sheblamed it on the system... 2 mistakes of over $1,800 each??? Those are not mistakes. Then when I moved out, she arbitrarily deducted over $300 from the deposit despite the apartment being spotless. For your own good, run away from this place
This is by far the shittiest place I have ever lived in... they overcharge for crappy living quarters, and dated appliances. It took them 5 months to get us a storage space after we moved in (and oh we were paying for it all that time too). The management is a joke with their 3 hour lunch breaks and closing the office early. And even though we steam cleaned the carpet ourselves there is a MANDATORY $300 cleaning service upon move out and they will charge you for every single thing possible regardless of wether or not it was in the lease. Please do yourself a favor, if you dont live here and are looking to. Run the opposite direction very very quickly!
Update: they refunded my friend. But this place had all sorts of problems... Sink, toilet, etc. Overall just OKThey made a deal with my friends to not charge them electricity for one year, but they kept making mistakes and charge them anyway. They never get back to my friends months after they complained. Avoid this place.
Really bad customer service. Arrived at the office a few minutes before close after booking self-tour through the call center and the agent refused to let me in. I moved on with my search
Nice grounds, but the walls are thin, the rent is high, and it increases sharply every year. Not so much of a community as they would like to claim.
I havent moved in yet. However, one thing that I do not like so far is my leasing specialist did not reply my last e-mail. I just asked her if she could show me the unit of pictures that I am going to move in. I sent the email on 7/19/2016. Now it is 7/27/16. I havent gotten any replied yet!!!
Very nice and confortable place!!
Apartments are good but community is not very good.
Great price for location
Nice place
