I also need to mention that the guides were very patient with the beginners and had them fishing like seasoned anglers in a day. This is the best fly fishing in Montana. The guides are excellent and give great advice on how to catch a trout. If you are a beginner or an expert, these are the guides for you. They always make sure you are in the best location for a great experience. Also check out the lodge. It has great views of the Clark Fork River.

My son and I have fished with Joe and crew for about 15 years ago. We have always had great times fishing with them - besides our bonding experiences, I have never had a guide work so hard to make sure we had a great time and really, really tried to help us catch fish. Ive been happy to bring several friends with us over the years, and to recommend A Classic Journey to others.The lodge has been a wonderful addition to the experience. Its very modern, plenty of hot water, good mattresses, an outstanding view of the river, and well-furnished. with other guides, we have spent nights in roadside motels which were fine, but this lodge is really great and available as part of a fishing package at a very reasonable price. Go to Missoula, fish with Joe, stay at the lodge, and you will have a great time.

What a place to be sequestered with your friends...... lodging, meals, guides and of course the trout are above superb. For the time I was there the atmosphere was always friendly and comfortable..Joe and his staff continually go out of their way to make your visit and time spent on the water a memorable journey. The guides were always on time and knew the water they were bringing you to, their selection of flies to put on the end of your line, well just let me say you have to go and see these professionals in action.

Our group has been going out to Missoula for 7 years and I have been going to the West fishing for 20+ and no outfitter works harder and makes the trip more enjoyable than Joe and crew. Had two great days of fishing with Patch on July 7th and Nate on July 9th. We fished different segment of the Upper Bitterroot River and had an outstanding time. You could write all the clichés you can think of for a top-notch guiding service; but, A Classic Journey Outfitters is undoubtably the cream of the crop. I have thoroughly enjoyed every night Ive stayed, and every guided trip Ive taken. Their guides are fantastic; knowledgable and friendly, yet extremely hard working. Fact: they put you on FISH! I grew up fishing Michigan and Wisconsin waters from a young age, with a [sometimes] annual family/friends trip out west to Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, etc. Since we discovered A Classic Journey Outfitters, Missoula has been the #1 choice. Ive been recommending these guys to all my friends (and fishing acquaintances in Northern Michigan) and would continue doing so. Do yourself a favor, and book a trip out here. You wont regret it.

Some friends booked a four night / three day fly fishing expedition for my family and I with Joe Cummings of A Classic Journey Outfitters. The arrangements for the trip were seamless. Joe was very accommodating about the time for us to come. We ended up arriving on August 20th and departing the 24th. We got to fish on the Blackfoot River, the Clarkfork River, and the Bitter Root River. Each morning they met us with two guides and two boats at the hotel they had arranged for us - Staybridge Suites - at 8:30 AM. We were typically back by 5:30 PM.The guides were all helpful, courteous, and first-class instructors, but if you really want to catch fish and get the absolute best time on the water we would recommend Ryan. He has experience all through Montana, but also in Argentina as well. We were deeply impressed with his tenacity and genuine desire to get us on the water quickly, and stay on the water as long as possible. He was focused and determined to insure that we caught fish. And of course, that is kind of the idea! If Ryan is not available, our second best recommendation would be Caleb. A fun loving young man, who is also highly experienced.We are confident that if you book with Joe Cummings of A Classic Journey Outfitters you will not be disappointed.The package we were on included lunch, the hotel for each of the four nights, and they provided the lures, flies, rods/reels and everything else one would need. In fact, on the last day it pretty much poured non-stop and they also provided ponchos so that we didnt get soaked to the bone.

I first started fishing with Joe around 1992. My initial trip with Joe was on the Clark Fork River with my youngest son Alan. I found Joe sitting on a park bench at the Missoulan Angler which at that time was owned by a gentleman named Paul. We had a great day floating all the way from Singletree to Petty Creek on the Clark Fork. Since that time, Joe has guided me, my boys, my dear friend Lawrence, and my wife Vicki every year. I found Joes competence and attention to detail wonderful. My friend Lawrence and I have an annual skawala trip the first week of April, usually in the rivers around the Missoula. If the rivers are out, we head for the Missouri.Joes staff has always been friendly and knowledgeable. Joe is a Montana native and his knowledge of the rivers surrounding Missoula is second to none. I highly recommend Joe and his staff.
