Did our first fly fishing excursion today with Chase from the Missoulian Angler. He was awesome! So friendly and down to earth. When we come back- he will certainly be our requested guide. Taught us everything we needed to know and got us comfortable with the tips and tricks quickly so we could actually feel good about what we were doing by the end of the day. He was able to talk us through everything and show us exactly what we needed to differently if we were messing up. A few things to note- go the full day. It flew by and we don’t think that we would have felt as comfortable with fly fishing after half a day. If you have the chance, go in months that allow a motor on the boat- it’s colder, but better fishing and much more attention from your guide because they don’t have to constantly be on the oars. And lastly, the person in the back of the boat will struggle just because of positioning. Trade off front and back seating every couple of hours so you experience both when you’re learning and when you’re comfortable.
My new husband and I opted for a fly fishing honeymoon. We found the shop by doing a quick search and saw they had a perfect 5 stars, we now know why!Booking was super easy over the phone. The gentleman that helped us was friendly and took the time to ask us about our experience (we fish 50-60 days in Colorado). We told him what rivers we wanted to fish (if possible) and that we wanted to fish dry flies. He set us up with Chase, he was a great fit! The first day we were on the Blackfoot, we casted big hoppers and had a great day on the boat! The lunch was good and filling (really nice sandwiches). He worked his butt off! The second day was guides choice. Chase had us searching for big browns and aggressive dry fly eats! We covered 2 whole sections! Once again we had a great day on the water and landed a lot of nice fish. We wish we could row like Chase! What we also liked was all the information we got about the river and the city. There were times in between spots so we had time to chat. Chase also gave us tips on casting which we enjoyed since we don’t usually get to fish them and when we do our lack of rowing experience makes it more difficult. What’s nice about this shop is that you can also go in and hang out. We never felt rushed or pressure or that they were better than us which we have experienced at other shops. There is a reason these guys have 5 stars. I wouldn’t hesitate to book a guided trip with them. Speaking of the shop, they had a lot of fly tying materials and a really good selection of flies. I am sad to say I lost The corduroy hat I bought from them on the plane home :( order more in navy!
Did four float trips this week with Chase & Greg (our guides) on the Clark Fork & Blackfoot Rivers.Chase & Greg did an outstanding job of putting us on trout (although the conditions were tough with the heat & low water levels). They were very knowledgeable of the rivers and what the trout were eating. They made our first fly fishing trip to Missoula exceptional, and Im looking forward to a return trip.I would highly recommend Missoulian Angler Fly Shop for their friendliness & guide services.Dan
We had a great time on the river with our guide Tom. He was very knowledgeable and friendly plus he had all of the requisite gear and all we basically had to do was show up. As for the store front, the shop is stocked with all of your fishing needs so you can stock up before and after your day on the water.Making reservations/ booking a trip is easy because a real person answers the phone and you have the ability to pay in person once you arrive.Thank you for a great time learning about the wonderful world of fly fishing.I will be back to fish with Missoulian again.
Great Service! Our float guide, Brad Hall, was the best! He took the time to teach this newbie how to fish and was so patient and knowledgable. I noticed that its not an easy job to watch the clients fly while also guiding the boat and looking for the best places to cast a line. He definitely has experience and it all came naturally to him. We caught about 50 fish between my husband and I and four of them were good size! Thank you!
Great place to visit and take a guided trip. My 8yr old son and I went on the Blackfoot River with guide Matt from the shop. Could not have asked for a better experience all around. Patience, instruction, and knowledge sharing. Walked in the shop and it felt like home. My little guy hasn’t stopped talking about it since. Thanks Missoulian Angler, annot wait to get back.
I fished four days on the Blackfoot and Bitterroot with Greg. He knows all of the local rivers intimately and will put you on fish. He is a true professional and a pleasure to spend the day with. I highly recommend Greg and the Missoulian Angler Fly Shop. I will call them again on my next visit to Missoula.
My friend and I went on an all day guided trip with guide Steve and it was amazing. Both of us who went had no fly fishing experience but Steve really set us both up for success—very knowledgeable and very fun to be around. I’d definitely do it again if I’m ever in back in Missoula.
These guys saved our trip from Utah! We were struggling to find biting fish and we were given excellent information great guys!
My wife booked a full day trip for us. She said they were very helpful and easy to deal with during the booking process. Our guide, Dustin, was very knowledgeable of the river and put us on to some great fish. He worked hard to make sure both of us caught fish. I would highly recommend the fly shop and Dustin. We will use them again on our next Missoula fishing adventure.
My dad and I went out with Russel for two days on the Clark Fork River. It was my 40th and my dads 68th. Russel was a consummate professional. Always looking out for both my dad and I and thinking of ways to help us have a fantastic trip.We caught a good number of cutthroat, a rainbow or two, and a few Squaw Fish (Northern Pike Minnow). What a fantastic guide.Russel was clear about technique improvements my dad and I could make. He had a delicious lunch, snacks, and drinks for us on both days. He showed us where to hit the fish, and how to get onto them. There is another review here that is almost comical to me about Russel. I think that someone has their underwear in a knot and doesnt know an incredible guide when they see it.I recommend Russel and the Missoulian Angler Fly Shop. I have heard from many others that they had a great time, and I am glad I took their recommendation. It was a fantastic trip.
Been here twice and both times were top notch customer service. This is my shop of choice in the Missoula area, and I cant wait to come back in!
Definitely 5 stars, extremely helpful to this poor, confused Utah boy. Highly recommend.
An Experience of a LifetimeWhat could be better than floating down the Blackfoot river fly fishing on a gorgeous day? Catching a rainbow trout! We reserved a couple boats for the day to have fun out on the water fly fishing. We are novices and needed to learn everything. The Missoulian Angler Fly Shop hooked us up with our guides Mitch and Ryan, who could not have been matched up with us any better. They were instructional, patient, and accommodating since we made a bunch of stops to have fun on the riverbank skipping stones and just enjoying the day.Mitch and Ryan took care of everything - we didnt have to worry about a thing. Somehow or another Ryan made fly fishing fans out of my daughters (10 and 16) who somehow had a blast on an all-day fishing trip on the river. Kudos, Ryan. Kudos. You need to see the picture I uploaded with this review to see how they were just enjoying the adventure out there. We stopped and had lunch and again, Mitch and Ryan handled everything. These guys know how to take care of their guests. There were a few that got away but we did manage to pull a couple out of the river. I attached a picture of one of the small rainbow trouts we got. This was an experience we wont forget. Ive already told everyone back at the office how they need to get out to Missoula and go fly fishing. Many thanks to The Missoulian Angler Fly Shop for the great service and setting us up with guides that were perfect for our trip. We will definitely see you again.
An amazing experience fishing the upper Blackfoot with these guides. Great people Steven and Greg no what they are doing. Steven worked hand and hand with my son who had never even held a fly rod. With in an hour he had his first fish on a fly rod in the boat. Making memories that my son and I will never forget.I’m definitely going back Matter of fact we already booked our next trip. thank you thank you thank you.
We have passed by the Clark Fork River for many years watching others on their fly fishing float trip. So this September my husband called and set up a float trip to celebrate a birthday. We traveled into town purchased our out of state license and arrived at the shop. Neither one of us had fished from a boat. Our guide Brad Hall was a great fit!!👍He was knowledgeable, patient, free to share tips, techniques and history of the area. Brad commanded excellent water ship while netting fish and tending gear. Thank you for an unforgettable fly fishing float. The Missoulian never disappoints!!
Steve Erehdt was the best guide we’ve used in many years! Steve was very knowledgeable of the river ( as well as many others ), he’s experienced, and he had a genuine concern for helping you develop your fly fishing skill, all while making sure you were enjoying the experience. We will be back and we will be requesting him! He has a passion for the great outdoors that is immediately evident. Thanks Steve for giving us an unforgettable experience.
My son and I fished with Greg Inglis from Missoulian Angler in August 2019. Greg is an absolute professional, an excellent guide with excellent fishing knowledge and a calm, patient demeanor. We have fished with Greg on three different destination trips, including the Connecticut and Androscoggin Rivers in New Hampshire, and the Blackfoot and Clark Fork Rivers in Montana. On each trip, we have fished together for more than one day. Greg has provided excellent technical instruction, casting instruction, and busy, fun fishing days.My son has fished with Greg at 8, 9, and 11 years old. Greg has provided enthusiasm, patience, excellent instruction, great scenery, and lots of fish. We have caught fish in heavily fished areas in the company of struggling anglers, on remote rivers, and on isolated, wild trout streams. Not all guides are happy or willing to spend full days with a very young angler. Greg is willing and very capable of providing instruction to adults and kids, and has developed a great rapport with my son. Greg has kept our fishing days fun and interesting, managing our wading and float days with breaks and location changes when needed, to keep my son engaged. He is also extremely careful when supervising my son in wading situations, never leaving his side in fast water.Greg has dedicated extra long hours and extra effort with us on more than one occasion. This summer, we scouted up the St. Regis River when we were looking for a cool break from the Clark Fork on a 90+ degree float day. Greg found us some risers in the colder trib. Several years ago, we stayed on a remote brook trout stream in New Hampshire as the sun was dropping, to get my son a few more shots at native brookies. Greg has always worked hard to make sure we catch fish and return home with great memories and pictures.Missoulian angler helped us out as well on our DIY days last summer, providing advice on locations and effective flies for our less structured days. The shop also supplied our missing pieces including a last minute buff on a sunny float day. They provided a great foundation for our stay in Missoula. We had a great trip to Missoula thanks to Missoulian Angler and thanks to Greg’s consistently excellent guiding. We will be back to fish with them again.
If you want to catch trout...book with Lane. He has expert knowledge and can communicate basic fundamentals and subtle tips on the fly. :-) He successfully coached my two teenage children and me from never having casted a rod to hooking and netting browns, cutbows, and rainbows from little surface snappers to a beautiful 22” trout within a couple of late July days. Our second guide was Brad who was also very knowledgeable and helped us haul in a ton of fish but equally impressive was his extension of hospitality. After hearing all three of us ask Lane for a spicy Italian sandwich at lunch on the first day, he brought handmade Italian sandwiches for lunch the second day. First class all the way! TIP: For beginners like us, a one on one with Lane is priceless. My son said the learning from Lane was far better than landing the 22” trout. As a father and single parent, watching both of my kids learn a new skill and begin a new craft was priceless. Thanks to Taylor and the team.
I scheduled a last minute surprise trip for my husbands birthday. They were able to get us in for a two day trip with Greg. We spent one day on the Blackfoot and the next day on the Clark’s Fork River. Greg was great, knowledge and very friendly. If we weren’t getting bites he changed out flys quickly. Took us back up river on runs that were good and overall made the trip great. We spend one day in a raft and the other in a drift boat. My husband and I both enjoyed our time the river. The fly shop is also well stocked and we were able to get any additional items we needed for fishing on our own. The only sad part of the trip was that I forgot to taste Greg’s wife’s homemade zucchini chocolate bread she made both days. 😩. I highly recommend this shop and Greg as a guide for an amazing trip.
The Missourian Angler was our meeting spot to get in touch with our guide, Brad Hall. The pro staff at MA was absolutely professional and courteous. Brad took us up the Blackfoot and neither me nor my boat partner had ever fly fished, Brad took care of that. He taught us so much before we launched and then even more once on the water. His knowledge and 30+ years of experience he put on fiat after fish. Planning a spring trip now. Worth the drive! Ask for Brad Hall as your guide!
I went with a guy name Mitch, was okay trip. He was nice it didn’t seem very knowledgeable. The most disappointing thing was, every time we would come up in structure like a rock.he would tell me to pull my fly away, so it wouldn’t get snagged. That’s where most of the trout hang out in front or behind rocks and structure.
Best selection of dries, nymphs, and definitely streamers out there. Choose to drive 30 miles and fight traffic instead of 10 for that reason.
Great fly shop. They always set us up with an excellent guide each time we come to town. Greg took us on a really long and great float on the Clark Fork, and weve never had a guide work harder to get us into fish, and make sure we saw the best spots and had a great time on the river. Highly recommend the shop and Greg, and all the guides who work for the shop.
The folks at the Missoulian are always very friendly and helpful. Their friendliest employee is Goose.Lane Armstrong, is a very capable guide and prides himself on his clients having a successful day of fishing. Along with that he is a very knowledgeable, enjoyable and fun person to spend a day or two on the river with.
If you need fly tying materials, this is the shop to go to! The shop might be small but they have the best selection of tying materials in town.
Our guide Steve was amazing! Had a blast in Blackfoot, my fiancé caught an 18 in. fish to kick us off and it was our first time fly fishing EVER! Will definitely request Steve next time we come back.
I walked in with a lot of questions because I had recently taken up fly fishing. They were informative and patient with me. They really know there stuff. I was recommended a new fly and it worked, that evening on the river I caught a lot of fish. I definitely recommend them for all your fly fishing needs and questions. Thank you Missoulian Angler you guys ROCK!!
Absolutely a great day on the river with Brad, the guide. He is a real pro. Great job of navigating the raft, very thoughtful and conversant, and best of all he knew where the fish were!! Caught fish all day, and Brad worked very hard and steady to make that happen!! Thank you!
My brother and I took 2 day float trip with Greg on the Bitterroot and the Blackfoot. The trip was nothing short of amazing, we caught Rainbow, Cutthroat and hybrid trout. Greg was on point with what flies to use and how to cast accordingly to get the best fish possible. Top notch guide and fly shop. 10/10 recommend these guys.
We called the Missoulian Angler to hook us up on our first fly fishing trip. They aligned us with Greg, a master at fly fishing! We not only had a safe and incredible experience with Greg, but we had ball and learned a lot about the skill. We expect to have the Missoulian Angler and Greg in our lives for many years!Thank you Missoulian Angler for hooking us up with a pro for the day! Great sportsman, superb person- Greg!Lisa and Dan
My father and I fished the Blackfoot with Chase. The experience was first class, all the way around. They put us on good fish all day long, were pleasant to be around and clearly know the area very well. I highly recommend booking a trip through the Missoulian Angler.
Greg was incredible!! It was my first float and he made it a wonderful experience. We were on fish all day on Bitterroot and the following day on Blackfoot. He had a wealth of knowledge on the fish and was happy to share it. Greg made my Montana trip the stuff of dreams. Two thumbs up.
Fantastic fly and gear selection, personable and seasoned guides that will get you fly fishering like a pro, and shop staff that is more than happy to answer any questions whether youre a local thats seen it all, or traveling through town and never picked up a rod. Hands down the best shop in town, and theres no doubt in my mind that the Mangler is largely responsible for my fly fishing addiction.
Our guide Greg provided an excellent experience on both the Bitterroot and Blackfoot rivers. We consistently caught fish and got better thanks to helpful tips along the way. Everything we hoped for an more. Will definitely use these guys again!
8.16.19. Greg Inglis is one of the best guides ever. I’ve been fishing with guides for 35 years and he is top 3 ever. Spent the day rowing between spots putting me on big fish. His positive attitude was so infectious I just knew I was going to have a great day... and I did.The folks at the fly shop, Walker, Ron and George were so helpful recommending places to fish and what to fish. Everywhere they sent me I caught fish the whole weekGotta go see them whenever you are in Western Montana!
Always friendly and helpful. Huge selection of tying supplies.
Greg took our family of three on a full day trip. I was concerned 12 year old daughter would want to quit and leave shortly after but it turned out this fishing adventure became highlight for her 10 day stay in Montana. While floating down the Clark Fork River alone was relaxing, catching fish with Greg’s guidance and listening to his passion for fly fishing along with personal stories added more to enjoyment. If anyone is looking to a great fly fish outing, I highly recommend.
Always drove past on the way to the freeway. Decided to stop and was glad I did. Staff is helpful and friendly. Inventory is adequate for fly tying, found all the stuff I was looking for. Ill be back!
Great service and had all tying supplies for Missoula Fly Gals on display.
Great fly shop and guided float trip down the Blackfoot! We almost got the trout Grand Slam! Many thanks to Matt and the Missoula Angler Fly Shop staff for a great fishing experience!
Was nervous heading out with a stranger this morning but Greg Inglis was not only personable but very understanding of it being our first time fly fishing. We had a great time and more importantly I learned a ton for only a half day. Good on you Greg and we look forwarded to going again soon!
8-23-2019A few days ago I scheduled a fly fishing trip with one of their guides, Brad, to fish the Blackfoot river on Wednesday due to weather conditions later in the week. Brad took the time to call me, insisting that the weather would be clearer on Thursday so I took him up on his offer.I had an incredible experience along the Blackfoot. Brad showed me how to cast and taught me how to recognize areas along the river where fish congregate. This led to me catching over 22 fish during the trip down the river. The sights along the river were gorgeous and the weather was perfect as Brad predicted.I highly recommend this fly shop and Brads fly fishing expertise to any level of fisherman looking to explore the local Missoula area.
The best fly shop in town! All the staff are very friendly, helpful, and very knowledgeable. Fly selection is vast, along with fly tying materials, and the staff is always willing to let you know what fly patterns are working for the surrounding areas. They have a great rod and reel selection and will promptly order anything not in stock. The owner Taylor is always helpful and willing to give advice or some secrets to help you catch more fish. Overall I have always had a great experience at the shop, and will continue to support the best fly shop in town!
Great fly shop. Gave us good recommendations for fishing spots and super friendly.
Delightful store with friendly folks. Especially Ron. I call during the summer and any questions that I have he happily answers with plenty of insight on the current hatches and water conditions. Stop by and say hi or call and ask for Ron during the summertime.
If I could give 10 stars I would. This shop has an extremely friendly staff and are incredibly knowledgeable. Highly recommend stopping by the shop for gear and to book a guided trip. You wont be disappointed!
This place is assume. staff is knowledgeable, and takes the time with beginners like myself, truly understands my level of ability and docent push the pro level equipment too me, which is much appreciated, in time I will be their. Thanks again Taylor
The most helpful fly shop I’ve ever stopped in. Didn’t hesitate to show me the floats they thought would be appropriate given the conditions and my experience. Super friendly and made my trip to Montana much better. Can’t say enough good things about them.
My buddy and I fished with Greg. Had an awesome time. Very knowledgeable guide.
We had an awesome day floating the Blackfoot. Our guide Brad Hall did an awesome job of putting us on fish and teaching us new tips, tricks, and techniques. He provided an awesome lunch that we were able to enjoy underneath some beautiful Montana scenery. Putting close to 30 fish in the boat was just a bonus.
Fished with Greg Inglis today on the Clark Fork. Awesome day with my youngest son. Greg is an incredible guide and put us on a ton of fish and help a ton with our casting and presentation skills. Definitely my go to guide now in Montana.
Great fly shop. Taylor is always willing to help out, and Ive gone on several trips with Dustin and cant recommend him more highly. Knowledgeable and patient, hes a great guide for beginners and seasoned anglers alike. Definitely the shop Ill keep going back to.
Place is a toss up between this and the grizzly hackle both choice.
Top notch Fly Shop! No matter who is working. Always use them, always set you up right
One of my best days of fishing yet, definitely would recommend asking for Greg.
Without question, one of the best flyshops I’ve ever visited in any state. Knowledgeable, friendly and eager to put you on fish. These guys will tell you where to fish, what to use, and how to diy if that’s your game. One helluva great shop and great group of guys.
Dustin provided the most memorable float trip I could have imagined. Beyond expectation!! He new just where the fish would be waiting. We stopped counting after I had caught my first dozen fish! Hit a Grand Slam of Rainbow, Cutthroat, Cuttbow and Browns!! Lots of laughs and fun! He was an excellent guide and teacher! I would highly recommend The Missoulian Anglers to anyone looking for a true Montana fly fishing experience. The shop owner and staff are all extremely courteous and highly professional. I’m looking forward to my next trip!
I had an AMAZING experience with the Missoulian Angler Fly Shop. I booked a float trip with George and he detailed a trip to what I wanted from my float trip. My guide Dustin was awesome and put me in the position to catch lots of fish. Dustin also introduced me to new techniques that I probably wouldnt have tried if it wasnt for him. I highly recommend that you swing by the shop if you are ever in the Missoula area. This is by far the best fly shop that I have been in since I started fly fishing.
Highly recommend. Great, friendly, helpful staff. Our guide (Matt) was a true professional, and was very patient. We learned a ton, and most importantly got to catch lots of great fish.
Dustin was terrific! We had a great experience ~ a great day! Dustin was very personable and knowledgeable ~ guided me toward my first trout ever! then my second, then my third! He knew exactly where the fish were and what they were biting! Great guide!
Best fly shop in Missoula hands down. Great prices on everything from gear to tying materials. Extremely knowledgeable staff that know fishing because its what they are passionate about. They know the rivers, the fish, and most importantly, what you need to know to catch fish. Whether you are just stopping in for flies or tippet before a trip or you need a full on guided experience, the Missoulian Angler has you covered and will tell you everything you need to know to have a great fishing trip.
Great customer service and knowledge of the area... will return
From the first time I called the shop to plan a long weekend getaway with my wife, the customer service I received was fantastic! George, Taylor and Walker handled all of our guide trip details with the upmost of care and attention. Ultimately pairing us with guide Greg Inglis!Greg didn’t disappoint! From the minute he picked us up at the shop he was working to make our time on the water memorable. Even basing the decisions on where to fish on our discussion - and ultimately we fished the Bitterroot and Blackfoot rivers. The fishing was amazing, and the time on the water with Greg was awesome. He is a great coach, guide, and overall joy to be in the boat with. We will fish with Greg again and again if his schedule isn’t booked solid like it should be.
Always fun stopping here always great products. Going fly fishing in March .... Super easy to arrange
As a fly fisherman, Missoula has always been a bucket list stop in my book. So when it came time to book a guide I wanted to make sure we picked the right outfitter and guide. To be honest I started my search at other fly shops and had poor experiences with the way they handled things and even got an unwelcoming feeling when we walked in to the shops. Missoulian Angler on the other hand was awesome! The shop was professional and had anything you could want. All of the guys behind the counter were friendly and welcoming including the owner. The kind of shop Id go to and BS with all the guys on a regular basis if I lived in the area. They got us hooked up with Greg Inglis and we floated the Bitterroot River. We ended having a great day catching fish and floating a picturesque section of river. Greg was nothing but professional and helped my beginner girlfriend catch more fish and made sure I was in the right spot for some killer dry fly takes! I have nothing but good things to say about both the shop and Greg. Overall great experience and would definitely do it again.
Awesome staff. Awesome products.wide variety for whatever you may be chasing. Incredibly knowledgable staff. This is Missoulas preeminent, one stop fly shop!
Best fly shop in town - helped me start tying and catching more fish. Everyone who works there is great. Can’t recommend enough.
I Fished with Dustin on the Blackfoot & Clark Fork today. Dustin is a pleasure to be with and extremely knowledgeable and experienced. The staff in the shop are first rate. Stop in the shop and you’ll be happy you did.
What an amazing group of people!! They were beyond helpful in helping me pick some much needed new gear. They’ve earned my business from here on out!
Excellent knowledgeable staff. Thanks
Super friendly, none of the bs that some shop have. Went the extra mile an got me a fantastic guide ( Dustin) on short notice. Really enjoyed our trip on the lower Clark Fork
Two float trips with Dustin. 2nd day on the Bitterroot was just my style of river. Gorgeous! Lots of turns with deep pools, interesting river topology. Dustin was easy to be with; like going fishing a friend only better because hes looking after you. Service at the shop was top notch. Thank you all- Walker, Ron, George. I had a great time! Hope to come back.
If you are new to fly fishing, or a seasoned veteran, who is looking to fly fish the storied waters of western Montana, contact the Missoulian Angler. The guides are experienced, knowledgeable, and friendly. They have taught me how to fish and each time I come here, I learn something new. If the fish are biting, they will know where. They will put you on some awesome trout. I have used another outfitter in Missoula, but the Angler is my favorite. In addition to their guide services, if you need flies, gear, or even just some solid advice on where to fish, this is the place.
Ive made two trips from Kentucky to fish with the guides at the Missoulian Angler. I had the privilege of fishing with several different guides all of which were exceptional. I most recently spent 6 days on the water with the shop owner, Russell Parks. Even with rough weather conditions he put us on some great fish and provided the gear we needed to be comfortable on the water. I wouldnt consider going anywhere else on my fly fishing adventures! Thanks Russell!
Service is great and the staff knows what they are talking about. They have a good variety of fly tying materials and supplies. I try to visit them once a month, and look forward to getting some waders or boots there soon.
This is a great fly shop! The staff are all very helpful and knowledgeable. They have an excellent selection of flies, rods, reels, fly line.... you name it. Also, their selection of fly tying materials and tools is great.
Friendly staff, ok flies. Their flies dont last very long though. Edit: they’ve since changed some of their fly distributors and now I can say their flies are as good as their service. I’ve had zero issues and this once again my preferred stop for my fly fishing needs. Great jobs guys! I’m pumped to buy all my flies from you once again!
Such an awesome shop! Knowledgeable staff, and fun times—both fishing and at their events! I go to the owner, Taylor Scott, with all my fishing questions, and he always knows the answer. Can’t wait to go back and do a trip with them.
Had a wonderful time fishing with my son with our guide Matt. Top notch service and would highly recommend these people.
Love this place! Staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Recommend stopping here if you are looking for gear.
Fished with Greg on July 8th. We originally planned to fish the Bitterroot but on departure he told us that he had fished it recently and it was not producing and too warm. Instead, he decided to fish the Blackfoot and its confluence with the Clark Fork. Great call. Im neither experienced nor skilled, and he was inordinately patient, helpful and instructive whenever I asked, while never criticizing or being frustrating. He was just a great guide. My girlfriend caught a pair of 16 fish, a Cutthroat and a Rainbow, as well as a smaller Rainbow that put up a great fight. I caught a 20+ inch Brown Trout in a shallow rocky area that Greg leaped from the boat to net. He was more excited for me than I was, and quick to point out what a prize fish it was. An awesome day, and a tremendous fly shop. Thanks!
In case you are trying to decide who to float with you have found it at the Missourian Angler. I have been out several years and have been highly satisfied with the performance of the guides and the shop. Russell is an ace and a pro who will try to see that you get the experience you want. I have brought out groups with novice fly fishers to experienced folks ALL had their expectations exceeded.
Legit cool owner and shop. They rented fly fishing poles for the day with equipment and gave us a couple locations to go and had a great time. Owner definitely knows his stuff and will definitely rent here again!
My first fly fishing trip on a river raft. Chase Harrison (guide supreme) did all he could do to help me catch fish except set the hook. Under difficult conditions (low water & bright skies}, his persistence paid off. The next day I caught many fish, including an 18 cut-bow. And thanks to Taylor Scott for his help in selecting a new fly rod for me.
Fantastic experience! This was my first time fly fishing and we were lucky enough to have Scott as our guide. Scott went above and beyond and was an absolute expert guide!! Thanks again!
World Class experience! Taylor coordinated a great trip and Matt was an absolutely outstanding guide!
They have everything you need to fish the area. The only reason I didnt give them 5 stars is due to the unfriendly nature of the staff. You definitely get judged walking in the door. Its as if they were trying to figure out if this person is a serious fly fisher or lost. What they should have been thinking is if Im friendly this tourist is probably going to spend money. Should have worn a vintage Orvis shirt.
Theres a reason the best guides stop here. Cool staff, know their stuff. They open early and offer great advice.
Great time with our fly-fishing guide Chase Harison on the Blackfoot - We took my youngest Grandson Jaxon for his very first fly-fishing adventure. Huge success due to the calm and professional approach Chase had with Jaxon. Not only did Jaxon out fish me, he also caught the largest fish 9/23/2019. 3 lb Rainbow. Jaxon and I could only fish in the morning hours, which we know can be the challenging time of day, since it hasn’t warmed up to much. Chase was right on the fish and we started hooking up within 5 minutes of the Raft having started moving down stream. We caught fish all the way through our 4 hour half day with Chase. It was awesome to see the spark come alive in my Grandson. Thanks very much Taylor Scott (the Missoulian Angler) who was able to set this up on a 30 minute request (Saturday 9/22/2019) - for my grandson and myself. Awesome job gentlemen, we had a great day on the water thanks to both of your efforts.
I have made 2 trips to the Missoula area in recent years and the crew at the Angler have been amazing for each trip! Everybody that works in the shop was very knowledgeable and very helpful on pointing us in the right direction. Everything from licenses, gear, shuttles, and flies...they were there to accommodate us. One of the best fly shops I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with!
Missoulas best fly shop! Friendly service, great product selection, and the best selection of fly tying supplies around.
If you want to be treated like a valued individual and receive the best services possible, The Missoulian Angler is the place for your guiding and fly shop needs.Over the past four years Ive worked with Russell Parks of The Missoulian Angler to provide fly fishing guiding services for myself, clients, and friends. Having spent 20 days on the water fishing with Russells company, I can confidently state that he runs a top notch operation.Whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned fly fishing angler, you can be assured theyll provide an experience which meets your needs. A guided trip with The Missoulian Angler is sure to help you improve your fly fishing skills, appreciate the beautiful natural resources, and have a memorable day on the water. Weve caught (and promptly released) several species of trout, including brown, rainbow, cutthroat, cutbow, and bull.In addition to their guiding services, The Missoulian Angler is the oldest fly shop in Missoula and they pride themselves in being the go-to source for local flies and expertise, quality fishing gear, and fly tying materials.P.S. If youre fishing with Russell, ask him about the client who left their camera on the bottom of the Blackfoot river :)
Stopped in briefly while waiting for flight back home to Iowa. Great little shop with a wide selection of everything you need to hit the water. Definitely recommend checking this local shop out!
Best fly shop in Missoula. Honestly the most down to earth folks here with solid intel on everything from the main rivers to alpine lakes to spring creeks - trout to pike to bass - drift boats or wading. Their guides are young and energetic; their advice spot on. Ask em anything and they wont talk down to you with the answer. Theyre always catching fish and having fun doing it. Plus they have the best fly tying selection in town and will order you anything not on the shelves. I dont go anywhere else if I can help it.
The Missoulian Angler offers everything a customer could want regardless of their fly fishing experience. The staff is extremely knowledgable and are very willing to point you in the right direction to wet a line. Additionally, they have an excellent roster of guides that are sure to impress.
