I had damaged DVDs with family memories that I was told would be unable to be recovered. Naturally I was devastated at the thought of losing those precious memories. This repair man is who I would highly recommend to anyone who has a computer problem. Took my laptop to other apple recommended third party repair services and they said it was totaled. This guy just said he would take a look, and then he came back and told me it was more than possible. It cost what one would expect from such major damage, but the price was fair. Didnt feel overcharged at all. More important was the repair. It was basically resurrected from being water damaged! (note that I lucked out and the motherboard was untouched by water. YMMV) If you got some serious repair work to get done on a mac, Id recommend bringing it here.

Kaya was able to fix my prehistoric MacBook Pro 2011. He asked if I used the computer for gaming or other demanding video apps. I answered no, so he disabled the part that was causing me problems, instead of replacing the whole logic board, saving me $$$. I found MacWest online. I wasnt sure whether my external backup drive was a hardware, software or data problem. I was impressed with the free assessment. Kaya did exactly that. Answered my questions, provided a general understanding of what possibly happened and what he could do. I have an iMac that has had a problem pretty much since it was new. Other people have worked on my machine to resolve this issue, but no one has been able to really figure it out. The problem basically was the computer would just shut down and reboot arbitrarily (very annoying). Sometimes loosing lots of work! Anyway, long story short, Kaya was the solver-in-chief. We had a mysterious hang with the Mail program. Our Safari worked fine with GoDaddy mail or web site access. I talked to Apple support and the tech gave up and suggested buying a new computer. I called Kaya, and he logged in remotely to locate and fix a virus.

Very affordable data recovery service! My lacie raid 5big enclosure failed, I got quoted over $1500 by different data recovery companies, one even asked over $3000. Quotes were high because my lacie raid has 5 drives in it and companies charge for each drive. When I called macwest data recovery for my failed raid drive, Kaya told me he charges by the time he spends. In 4 days raid recovery was successful, they were able to recover all my video footage and projects for a reasonable price. We will definitely use his recovery services in the future. Others apparently had good experiences, but I was underwhelmed. I tried to get a quote via e-mail, and nobody bothered to reply. Then I called in and asked how much my repair would cost, and was told, I dunno, I guess around $400, but Im not sure how much the parts will be, or how long it will take. $400, incidentally, is at the upper end of the estimates Ive gotten. Anyhow, they apparently dont want my business, which I am happy to take elsewhere.Addition: Wow, look at that response. I feel like that tells you more than I ever could.

At 6pm on a Friday night, Dropbox failed me, or rather my brain, in a fit of obsessive compulsive organizing madness, failed me, and I lost about 7 years of data from my computer. Long story but with no help from Dropbox, I started thinking through all the recent backups I had done - Time Machine, Cloud backups, various hard drives each overwritten and re-used. Desperate, I did a quick Google search and found MacWest which was close to me and open until 8pm on a Friday night. Kaya, in his calm voice, told me to come right over, which I did, dropping off a hard drive to see if any data which had been erased (and overwritten) could be salvaged. Three days later, and equally sleepless nights, Kaya called on Monday to say he had found about 800GB of data. FOUND! I couldnt believe it. I picked up the drive and, yes, despite the lack of file structure, I have been able to slowly piece together what was lost. Some of it I cant find but do I really need auto repair receipts from 2014? So, I am trying to think like Marie Kondo and only care about whats current and meaningful. If you think going to an AUTHORIZED Mac place is safer, just consult with Kaya. 2 years ago I dropped my laptop and it wouldnt start. I went to UNITEK and after 2 days of evaluation and a big STANDARD fee just to open the cover they quoted me $1,200 minimum for an entire logic board replacement. My laptop was 2012 so I didnt fix it. A week ago, I watched a YT vid, opened my laptop and somehow it started. But it was still starting and stoppping. I past my repair ability and thought about going back to UNITEK because they carry the authorized repair label but had a bad feeling about them. So I went to Kaya and he sat w me, listened to me describe my repair story and took my laptop and, with an experienced eye, saw that a cable was just loose enough not to notice. My laptop turned on each time. He also ran free diagnostics. I sat with this expert for 30 minutes and he charged me nothing. Get an honest look first. Unitek seemed like they get so much work I think they just are used to asking and getting whatever price they ask.

I called several data recovery places to explain my problem (a failed/corrupted TimeMachine backup which was the only location of my data after I erased my computer), and none felt equipped enough to handle the problem. I called MacWest, and Kaya said hed take a look that day (free diagnostic). He was able to recover the files within 2 days of me dropping off the hard drive. His space is an unassuming office building, but I assure you, Kaya knows his stuff! Will go to MacWest for all my needs!

After conducting repairs on my computer, the repairs caused further damage that he was unwilling to fix. There is no warranty for repairs. I spilled coffee on my computer and came to Macwest believing it would be cheaper than going to Apple. It all ended up costing much more than it should have. Save your money. This place is truly a scam.

MacWest is awesome! My Mac Pros video card decided to die one day while I was in the middle of a lot of work. They not only fixed it, but replaced the video card with one that was a lot better and faster, which inadvertently fixed a bunch of other small problems I was having. He did the work really quickly and I had my computer back the next day. It was affordable and the whole time I felt like I was in very trustworthy hands.

Had a scare when a pretty new internal drive suddenly would not mount on my Mac. Kaya was close by so I jumped in the car and drove over frantically hoping it would be possible to retrieve the data on that drive as I was in the middle of a couple of jobs I had used that drive for.Fortunately Kaya was able to get the drive to mount and gave me a couple of suggestions I could try when I got back to my studio.Sure enough I was able to get it to mount and immediately started copying the important data to another available drive.Even better he did not charge me for the hurried consultation!

Water damaged Macbook--not backed up! Was very sad about it. Kaya retrieved all the information off the hard drive and put it on an external flash drive. Total price ~$200 including the cost of the hard drive, which I (theoretically) can use to back-up my current laptop.In addition, I had some issues with my laptop after retrieving the hard drive, which I assumed were related to the drive (they werent). My Macbook Pro is 7 years old. Next year it will be considered vintage, which means the Apple store wont even look at it. After my computer dying on me (not starting no matter what I tried), I took it to the Apple store to see if they could fix it. They told me my hard drive needed to be replaced. Im on my second hard drive of this computer (the first one died in 2016), but since it was a recent replacement, I knew it couldnt have died after only (almost) two years. I took it to Kaya at Mac West (who installed the second hard drive), and after running tests, he fixed it. It was a data corruption and not the hard drive! He even showed me a picture of the hard drive test, showing there was nothing wrong with it. Admittedly, I am a bit of a Luddite when it comes to computers. So, when I find an honest computer repair person Im really happy because I dont have to worry about getting ripped off. Let me tell you, Kaya is an honest computer repair person. This is how I know...I brought my MacBook in for a repair and after running diagnostics on it (free of charge) he told me that he could repair it, but it would be less expensive if I took it to the Apple Store. How many people are so honest that they will tell you to take it somewhere else because it will save you money? Additionally, after I got my machine back from Apple I called him up to see if I could bring it in to have my backup data restored. Rather than have me bring it in, he walked me through what to do over the phone.Overall, Kaya gave me about an hour of his time and never charged me. Five stars for honesty and integrity.

I took my iMac which didnt start to the Apple Store. Apple guys told me that there was a recall on some 27 inch iMac models for defective hard drives.They told me that they could replace my iMac hard drive for free. There was a tiny problem !!! My data !!! Apple Store wont do data recovery for their defective failed harddrive. I had to get my data first through a data recovery company. One of the genius guys said it might cost somewhere between $700 and $1500. Another guy checked yelp for Los Angeles data recovery services and referred me to Macwest data recovery. I made a call based on all these positive reviews. I have to agree -- the service is fast and friendly and there are no surprises.So there is a recall program for some of the 27 inch iMac computers in the Apple Stores. They replace it for free but you have to find a data recovery service and get your data recovered before Apple Store replaces your failed hard drive.Kaya was very helpful and friendly. When I brought my iMac in, he hooked it up to his system and explained me the whole data recovery process on the spot. He had to take my hard drive out from the imac, did the recovery and put it back in the imac. I got the data back in 2 days and with a very reasonable price ( Under $500 ). Service didnt affect my Apple warranty. After the data recovery, I took the imac to Apple Store, it took them 4 days to replace the hard drive. Came back home and transferred my recovered data back to my computer. Data recovery service can be very expensive. Well I learned the hard way, keep a backup of your mac and buy a $70 external hard drive to avoid losing all your data. Just a HUGE thank you for saving my photographs and files .
