I purchased a Groupon here. In the meantime, I scheduled a trip that conflicted and tried to reschedule. Alas, they dont allow reschedules with less than 24 hours notice. Thats fine, its in the fine print, so whatever. But when I called, the excuse they gave me was that they had already paid the instructor to show up for me. Really? I was the only person signed up? At the start of summer? I get that I should have been more proactive, but it would have been no skin off their back to be a little more flexible. These guys arent the only game in town, and I will happily take my business elsewhere.

Had an awesome time kiting on 2 separate occasions! Equipment was in great condition, some of the kites they rent are brand new and the boards all perfect. Bart & the team were friendly and had all kinds of feedback and tips & trics even though I was only renting. One comment I would make is I wish they were open later than 5:30pm because the sun is still up, more fun can be had!Great time though

Three of us, myself and 2 teenage boys went out to SoCal Kitesurfing 2 weeks ago. We are still learning and at various skill levels. We also have some of our own equipment. Bart (the owner) set us up with lessons and was able to supplement our equipment over the following days so we would have the right size sails and boards for the conditions. He also had wetsuits, and the kiting equipment was in good condition. We intend to come back out next weekend.

Can become a very busy place with hundreds of kite boarders . Im a frequent visitor and hope to someday be a frequent flyer. There are showers and bathrooms available along with a station for cleaning your kiteboarding equipment. Quite a bit of parking but get there early on weekends . Concrete Circle down near the water. Multiple companies available for kiteboarding lessons with equipment. I have found that Kite boarders are generally friendly and like to share their experiences and expertise

I learned to kiteboard at So Cal Kitesurfing. The instruction made it easy and was professional. As I have progressed in my skills, I continue to ride at Kite Beach and launch my kite next to the SoCal crew. The instructors are always willing to offer unsolicited tips, which make a big difference. The SoCal crew, especially Bart Miller, make Kiting at Kite Beach in Belmont Shores a true community feel.

I cant believe how many 5 star reviews this place has. Its a money sink, I signed up for a 6 hour lesson to get certified to rent gear on my own and was left with maybe 20 minutes of bobbing in the water time after clearly being able to handle the kite and now have to take another lesson to rent on my own. If youre truly interested in getting started kiteboarding, I would not recommend this place. Im taking my business elsewhere.

I had a great time learning Kitesurfing from Parker. He was a great instructor and he worked at my pace. I was never bored, and never rushed. Their knowledge of the sport and vast collection of gear paired well to give me the best experience. I definitely am going to use SoCal Kitesurfing again in the future, and have no hesitations recommending them to anybody looking to try the sport.

We did all day lesson here with my wife. It was a great experience overall. Id say 4.5 of 5. Its understandable to do pauses between lessons and wait for wind, etc. But during those pauses itd be really great for instructor to make us go back and forth with a kite on a ground since when we got to the water after waiting an hour or two for the proper wind we werent able to control it, more practice on the ground would have helped a lot.

Bart you are the best. First time to foil and with your help I was able to stand up. Thank you soo much for everything. I would highly recommend taking lessons at SOCAL KITESURFING AND KITEBOARDING. Great and very professional instructors. Shout out to Liam who guided my 14 year old daughter to kite and was able to go upwind after her lesson today. Love you guys.

My 13-year old son and I are in the process of learning kitesurfing and have taken four 2-3 hour lessons with SoCal Kitesurfing - most of them with Monica. We only have positive things to say about our experience - the kitesurfing equipment was fine and trouble-free, lessons started on time (when we were on time) and when we were late, Monica was gracious enough to let the lesson end late as well, and, most importantly, Monica was a very competent and enthusiastic instructor who could explain things clearly. The other instructors seem to be competent as well. After our four short lessons, my son and I are at a point where we have good control of the kite and can do water starting (more or less). The next step for us is to stay on the board and once we have mastered this, the real fun begins! We are looking forward to the next lesson with SoCal Kitesurfing!

An honest review: its alright, but there are certainly some things the place could do to improve. Mostly, they could strive to teach with more clarity and could streamline the process. As mentioned below, there is a bit of waiting around during paid lesson time. Additionally, I felt as though the lessons could have included a lot more explanations. For example, I wanted to launch the kite by myself, and all i got was thats dangerous. I had to keep clarifying. why is it dangerous, how do i do it properly, why does everyone on the beach (including instructors) do it that way anyway? Ive had to supplement the lessons with youtube videos to make sure Im not missing anything.

Awesome experience! took lessons in April and now have my own gear and kiteboard a few times a week. The instructors are knowledgeable and professional. The location is ideal with great winds and lots of space (this beats most of the other places Ive kited including in northern CA and Oregon for beginners) . Highly recommend taking lessons for your safety and those around you (you dont want to hurt someone or get a beach closed to kiters). Bart and team do a good job focusing on the safety aspects which is great. Only downside is you do have to wait for the wind for your water lesson. This is just part of the game though :)

Ive been wanting to kite surf for some time now and havent had the chance. I was lucky enough to be asked by one of my clients to arrange a leisure day during a business trip to LA. Arranging the training was uncomplicated by email and Bart was helpful to accommodate us a short notice. Everyone in kite camp welcomed us and was extremely friendly. All the necessary gear was provided.I am usually of the mindset just to buy the kit and learn from youtube/books etc but some of the safety aspects of kite surfing arent intuitive and good spots are crowded so Im glad that I took the lessons. Parker covered all the safety aspects in detail a few times so now I feel confident to learn the sport without endangering others. After the lesson I came back for another day of supervised rental and Ill be back for more lessons as soon as Im ready for the next steps. My client is German and was surprised to find one of the trainers able to speak German so that could be a plus if you need it but I guess youd need to arrange it with Bart up front.I dont normally take the trouble to leave a review but in this case, I certainly can recommend Socal Kite.

Was apprehensive at first because of the cost associated with kiteboarding, but once I decided to pursue the sport I was very glad I went to SoCal K&K. Bart, the owner, is a talented instructor (also teaches skiing in Utah) and his team is wonderful. Everyone is very approachable with all the little questions that come up as you learn kiteboarding.Regarding the learning process - before the lesson with Bart I spent ~15 hours on a trainer kite + reading websites/watching videos (e.g. progression). It took me a full day lesson + one other half day lesson to get up on the board, about a month in total. Still a lot of learning to do! But I feel comfortable going it on my own at this point.

I am new to the sport of kite surfing. I grew up in and around the ocean and have surfed my whole life but learning how to operate a kite was something I knew I wouldn’t be able to master on my own. I had heard horror stories and had seen pictures of beginners learning to kite and being drug across the sand, tangling their kite lines in telephone wires, and having a horrible first experience, and I didn’t want that to happen to me.After looking extensively for a good and reputable kite surfing school I decided to take the complete 6 hour Course to Ride at SoCal Kitesurfing and I don’t regret it one bit. The lessons were a great value. From the get-go everyone at Socal Kitesurfing was very friendly, inviting, and knowledgeable about the sport. During my lessons if I had a questions or was struggling with a particular aspect of operating the kite, the instructors were always there to help. It was really cool that the instructors allowed me to learn at my own pace. If there was something I couldn’t get, we did it over and over again until I felt comfortable in moving forward. The lessons being broken up into two 3 hour sessions was the perfect amount of time. The first lesson I learned all about the equipment and how to simply operate a training kite and then progressed to a small kite. It was so cool to harness and feel the power of the wind. During the second lesson we increased the size of the kite, reviewed more of the fundamentals, and then we suited up and hopped in the ocean. My instructor was there and with me every part of the way. During the last hour of the lesson we finally got to take a board and kite out together, and again my instructor was right there helping me on what to do. I couldn’t believe it, just like they had taught me, I put my feet into the straps of the kite board, kept my back leg bent and my front leg straight, then launched the kite and I was kite surfing on my first try. I traveled for about 100 yards before I fell and had to launch the kite again, but from that point forward I knew I was hooked on the sport.Thank you to everyone at SoCal Kite Surfing for making my first kite surfing experience a memorable and enjoyable one.

DO NOT GIVE YOUR MONEY TO BART! (Owner of SoCal Kitesurfing) TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL! FIND ANOTHER INSTRUCTOR! I signed up for the 6 hour course and have tried to schedule the second half of the class for the past 6 weeks. He doesnt respond to my calls or texts and when he does he tells me not to come because its raining even though it is sunny with plenty of wind and 0% chance of rain. I live in LA and have driven to/from Long Beach 8 times only to find out that I was not going to be able to kite surf. Thats 8 hours of driving in LA traffic because Bart refuses to respond to my calls and texts!!

Took the kite flying beach practice 1 day and had the basics and good control of the kite in 90 minutes. I went right to the Big kites since I had previous experience kiting an old 16m kite in light wind. The in water 3hr lesson was with 1 instructor and 2 students. It worked out fairly well although you are somewhat limited by each others progress but by the end of 3hrs we were both to the point of getting up for a couple seconds and crashing. The crashing was good learning info as well as it improved our kite control skills and slowly taught us the correct balance.Learning how to handle the crash is just as important if not more than getting up in the first place. Im sure with 2 more hours of training we would have been riding short distances, so when you plan your training, just be aware that it will take a bit more than 6 hours to really get a good taste of kitesurfing. Bart and his crew were all great but towards the end of a 3 hour water session all of us were ready for a break on land, especially the instructor that was swimming with us non-stop for the whole 3 hours.I can also recommend the DVD Progression kite surfing training to reinforce what you have learned, what not to do, and to study the correct postures, balance and technique to further your skills.I went out and bought a kite and will practice what we have learned so far and once I can get up and make short runs I will likely take some more training.Getting the IKO certification card is also an important benefit so that when you take more training it will record how far you got already so you have a good record for the next instructor where to take you next and when you reach a specific level of skill, you will be able to rent equipment to take out on your own.Bart and his crew were great and did their work well. Looking forward to more.
