I have been training for years at Dojo Kyle and feel like this is not just a place to learn only about Jiu-Jitsu, but a community of people that do their best to look out for one another. Some other gyms Ive been to can tend to have a focus on pushing towards competition and aggressive training. That is great if you have a single focus on competition and rapid advancement. My take on Dojo Kyle is that it is a great place to find a community, and a place you can feel very comfortable taking your kids to. As an adult who is focused more on the consistent and slow progression and looking to avoid injury, I like the methodical and sustainable approach to coaching there. Additionally, Will, Ryan, and the other coaches at Dojo Kyle are just good people, plain and simple. Im honored to be a humble member of the Dojo Kyle community.
The coaches here are amazing and great with the kids. My 7 year old has been training here for over a year and his self confidence along with his self discipline has increased exponentially. Dojo Kyle is awesome!
I was there for only a short period of time, but I enjoyed my time there. The coaches are amazing and helpful. If you dont understand anything they will help you. I love the whole open mat idea so you can work on your weaknesses or improve on everything you know. Thank you Will, Ryan, and the whole team for making Dojo Kyle a safe and fun place
My son has been at Dojo Kyle Jiu-Jitsu since he was 4, and it has been AMAZING for his character development as well as his physical development. It’s the only place we found that can inspire him to do his best, without having to yell or intimidate the kids! Amazing coaches, great kids and families. My son looks forward to going every time. He’s learned self discipline, how to set and meet goals, how to be responsible for his own actions, and challenge yourself mentally as well as physically, AND HES ONLY 6! His teachers and principal have all pulled me aside and asked how I got him to be so well mannered and responsible, and I can honestly say it is thanks to his jiu-jitsu training and his amazing role models at Dojo Kyle. Do your family a favor and call Dojo Kyle, talk to Coach Will, and see for yourself.
I trained at Dojo Kyle ~4 times a week for nearly two years. The instructors are great, knowledgeable, and professional. The students are great to work with and care about the safety of one another. I recommend this gym.
Great Dojo! Has both an adults-only and a kids schedule. Will, the head instructor, is well-versed in BJJ, and takes an interest in his students progress. The kids program combines situational technical techniques with motivational lessons to promote success in life.
Great place to train. The instructors are fantastic.
I cannot recommend this school and program enough. Coach Will and Ryan are some of the most welcoming, kind, and knowledgeable people I have had the pleasure of meeting. This is an incredible place to train and an incredible community to be a part of. Dojo Kyle has not only helped with my physical health but my mental as well. If you are looking for a way to get in shape, learn self-defense, challenge yourself, gain confidence, or simply have fun with a group of people who are all trying to better themselves, then I absolutely recommend giving Dojo Kyle a try.
I trained here for about 4yrs and miss it everyday. The coachs and people here are absolutely amazing. If want to get in shape, relive stress, meet great people, be part of an amazing community or learn a new skill. Do yourself a favor and go see Will or Ryan at Kyle Dojo. I promise you it will be one of the best decisions you will ever make. Learn to be a better version of yourself at Kyle Dojo. I know I did!!!
Can not put into words how amazing Dojo Kyle is. My son has been at the dojo since he was 4 years old. At the time Coach Will and Coach Ryan had never had a 4 year old train with them. They took a chance on our boy and here we are 4 years later working towards a yellow and black belt. Not only have they taught my son about dedication and hard work, but they have also taught them other life lessons. Respect, perseverance, and GRIT. I can tell you as a mom it was very hard for me to watch the wrestling. However, Coach Will has always taken the time to check in with me to make sure not only is my son feeling confident, but that I am feeling comfortable as a mom. We are so happy to be part of the Dojo Kyle family.
Was here for a year. Started off great. For 2 kids it was 368.00 a month and its a contract and they ask for extra money throughout the year. Once the contract is up you must send in a written notice . As well as my sons shoes were stolen while he was in their class and never recovered. I would not recommend this place to anyone. And during the summer it gets so crowded that kis start getting ignored. An update, the final ending is a thank you to Will for fixing the balance for the 2 additional months we were not there after contract. I appreciate that greatly
I needed an exercise program that was interesting and both mentally and physically challenging. I found that in my first trial class and I signed up that night. I find that the instructors are very interested in your individual learning and progression both as a practitioner and in my personal life. The class environment is self-paced and safe. I have now attended for 6 months and I highly recommend this Dojo.
One of the best decisions we’ve made for our son has been signing him up and putting him in Dojo Kyle! He loves and is grateful for his coaches, his self confidence, self discipline and motivation has improved by leaps and bounds as well. It is a clean environment with very attentive coaches that help develop meaningful virtues. Extremely satisfied and look forward to my wife and daughter to attend once they’re able!
I cannot recommend Dojo Kyle enough. I am a Deputy with a local Sheriffs Office and the training I have received has been incredibly valuable. Coach Will and Ryan have been excellent teachers and strongly support Law enforcement training Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. I can attest that training at Dojo kyle is not only physically beneficial but mentally as well. I will continue to train with them as long as I am able.
Ive been training with these guys for almost 10 years. Ive been to every location theyve had and I have not had one bad experience. Ryan and Will are two of the best instructors, teammates and friends Ive ever come across. Theyre down to earth, friendly and extremely knowledgeable as are all of their students. They keep their curriculum organized, their school in order and very clean. I highly recommend DojoKyle if youre in or around the Kyle area. You will not be disappointed
An extremely comfortable, clean and supportive environment. Coach Ryan and Coach Will are extremely knowledgable and take their time to provide the best training and experience possible. Fellow members are also very supportive and helpful. Ive listened to the coaches as they instruct the youth class and couldnt be more impressed by their patience coupled with appropriate corrective discipline. A great atmosphere for all
I met these guys by accident. I am so glad I did. Whenever I am in the Austin area I check them out. Very nice, professional and the feel of the gym is awesome. As a gym owner myself, all of this is very important. I highly recommend them if you are looking for a great place to train.
A place to train is more than just mats and a curriculum. Its made up by the people who train there as much as the instructors, although the instructors foster that initial feeling that a dojo has.Ryan and will are fantastic instructors, both at the adult and childrens level. As the techniques are shown they cover the finer points as well as describing the different points that apply to different body types. The people that train there are just as welcoming. The first time I walked onto their mats I was greeted with open arm, everyone makes the effort to help you.I trust my children and wife train there as well.If you have any doubts try a class.
Dojo Kyle provides a great service to this community! Coach Will and Ryan are both knowledgeable, professional, and very approachable. The community that they have built at the school is reflective of this. I would recommend Dojo Kyle to anyone looking to get into martial arts for themselves of their children.
I’ve trained Brazilian jiu-jitsu for 17 years at 4 different places and Dojo Kyle is the most welcoming and comfortable environment I have trained at. It is a true family. I live 30 miles away and pass three other schools but wouldn’t even consider training anywhere else. I also think their judo class is pretty good. 🙂
Dojo Kyle has been my first introduction to BJJ or any martial art. It has been nothing but positive! The instructors do a great job of explaining the techniques and keeping a great pace in class. The gym is always clean and upbeat. The other students are helpful and there is a relaxed vibe that just makes it fun to train.Getting to go roll at Dojo Kyle is always the highlight of my week. Keep up the great work!
My 8 year old son and I both attend Dojo Kyle as beginners and love it. He had tried a different martial art I grew up in but the local school was not for us (and his ADHD). This place is perfect because he is constantly doing something, so his mind does not wander, usually with a partner. He never wants to miss class and its great that we both go because he loves to practice at home. The instruction is great and it is a fun way to stay in shape.
Our family has participated in the kids, youth and adult classes over the course of 3 years. Our son enjoys the work out and the challenge of learning new moves. I like the confidence he gains. Coaches Ryan and Will are well equipped to instruct all skill levels.
Dojo kyle is a great place to learn Jiu jitsu. They have a very inviting and friendly culture that they have built through years of dedication and training. They are active in the community and also teach children and adults alike lessons and values that extend outside the walls of the school to life as well. Definitely a safe and fun environment to learn something both practical and helpful as jiu jitsu.
Had a great time here. Instructors seem knowledgeable and everyone is really respectful. Tried my first class and then signed up pretty quickly after. I hope to enjoy my time here training and learn a lot, check it out if youre looking for a good bjj gym!EDIT: 2 years later and its still the place to go! World class instruction with a fantastic group of guys from the staff to the boys on the mat. Ill honestly miss Dojo Kyle as i move on into my career and away from Texas. Everybody there is respectful and has a mentality of self improvement and helping others rather than doing anything and everything to win and risk injury for themselves and others.
Ryan and Will are awesome instructors. They really make the dojo a awesome place to learn. Keeping the knowledge flowing. Staying safe and clean. And providing great insight into an amazing martial art.
Dojo Kyle is a dojo that not only teaches you jiu-jitsu. Its a community that you can join to further develop yourself as well as your martial skills. Coach Ryan and Will are patient and well versed in the art. Having such a well versed backgroud allows for great rolls and knowledge that is backed up from actual practice. This is where I started my journey and maybe it can be yours. Theyre also great with the kids classes!
Ryan and Will are great instructors, and just really good guys! Being new to martial arts, I was a little intimidated when I first joined, thinking that it may be a close-knit group; however, nothing could be further from the truth. Everyone, instructors and students alike, is incredibly welcoming. They simply wants to learn, exercise, and have fun doing it. I LOVE MY DOJO!
Love this place! Have been going since 2012. Ryan and Will are so patient with the kids and the students respond so well to them. Ryan and Will have always made extra time to make sure the students not only understand the techniques, but are confident and respectful.
I’m giving you an honest review, because if Dojo Kyle caught your interest, then I want you to be well informed. What is taught at Dojo Kyle:JIU JITSU and JUDO.First off, the instructors are very knowledgeable in the arts they teach. They are constantly striving to provide new techniques, submissions, takedowns, positional changes etc..., but will also go over basics.Bruce lee once said “ I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick a thousand times.Continuing on,The environment is calm and the teaching of all instructors is easy to grasp. After they demonstrate a move, you practice the move with a partner who is relatively your size.Pros: if you have have questions on the technique shown, they will walk you through it, demonstrate it on your training partner, or even have you work through the technique through them.Cons: None. After the techniques of the day have been ran through, and everyone feels that they have the techniques down, then open mat begins.Prior to open mat, we all line up and shake hands. This is a great way to learn everyone’s name.Open mat breakdown: during open mat, whether in Gii or regular training clothes, nothing changes. You pick a training partner and roll “Sparring” from 3-7 minutes depending.Pros: Dangerous competition banned techniques are NOT allowed. Horseplay and grudge fights are NOT tolerated.Instructors will spar with you and you can choose to go over techniques with them, or even something you saw on the internet.(related to the art)Since I’ve been training here(over a year), no one has ever intentionally hurt someone else.Cons to ANY martial art, combative system, self defense arts, is the risk of injury. Injuries can happen. But the risk of injury is substantially decreased if you train hard enough to feel comfortable out on the streets with what you’ve learned or in the completion setting. BUT not to the point to where you hurt someone else or yourself.Sanitation: Dojo Kyle cares about your health and routinely has the mats disinfected by a 3rd party sanitation.Final thoughts:What makes this place stand out is the fact that the instructors are so involved with each individual person and will personally get to know and train with you one on one.I have never not had a question answered or a technique shown. This place is just flat out awesome. These are my friends and martial art family, this is a home away from home.Looks forward to training with ya.~J.
I’ve been training for almost 8yrs 5 of them with Ryan, Will and Brad . I came to the dojo a blue belt found a home and never left . This is by far the best team I’ve ever had the pleasure of being on.
Theyre great. Very nice and friendly. So much patience with the kids. Highly recommend
I have trained at Dojo Kyle and the facility has always been very inviting, clean, and relaxing. The coaches were polite, knowledgeable, and helpful. If you are searching for a new place to train, I definitely recommend it.
I hold a Black Belt in a previous martial art, but had not trained in 12 years. Getting back in to a martial art that was very different from what I had experienced before while being an overweight 45 years old, was concerning for me.I have attended Dojo Kyle Jiu-Jitsu for a couple of years now. Let me just say that I feel that I am part of something special. Will, Ryan and my fellow students are incredibly supportive, welcoming and motivated to help me improve every time I attend. I will say here, Thank you all. I do my best to follow the examples you lead.
Our family has been with Dojo Kyle since 2011. They are wonderful and have taught my son a lot. Its a great place to learn a new discipline.
Dojo Kyle is a great place to practice jiu-jitsu no matter youre skill level, age, or weight. The instructors Ryan, and Will both are highly knowledgeable and detailed in how they teach. The other students are also knowledgeable and can help as well. It has a great atmosphere, where everyone is friendly, helpful, and caring. Judo is Friday nights, taught by Brad who is also very detailed, and knowledgeable.
I live in San Marcos and wrestle for the Texas State University Bobcats. When I train jiu jitsu this is the place I go to. The team is very tough, successful competitors, good training partners, welcoming, and family friendly. They are accepting of all skill levels, clean facility, and very involved in the community. Good location, great people.
Great instructors who are passionate about their craft, mental discipline and personal growth. Great community to be involved in while learning an empowering skill.
Coach Ryan and Will are very knowledgable and professional instructors. The atmosphere at Dojo Kyle is very family friendly. Definitely a great school for children as well as adults.
This is a great place to train and learn. Coach Will and Coach Ryan do an excellent job of creating a positive, friendly, and family oriented environment for adults and kids. The kids class not only works on learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu but also learns positive life lessons that encourage self-respect and respect towards their peers and adults.
Called to find out if we should consider this dojo as a good location to train as a family. We already train elsewhere and needed to find out if this would be a comparable cost to our exsisting gym. After several attempts asking what the fee structure is they would not tell me. Makes me think they are not very transparent in how they conduct business. For that reason we will not recomend this location.
Dojo Kyle offers effective training in a relaxed environment where its easy to learn and grow in jiu jitsu. Ive been training with the guys at Dojo Kyle for over a long time now and Im looking forward to many more years of being a part of this awesome community!
Great instruction with a very kind and friendly coaching. All different levels of skill welcome feels like family.
Great coaches, great atmosphere, great techniques, what more can you ask for?
Best place to train BJJ. The instructors are first class
Dojo Kyle is a fun place to train BJJ. Very knowledgeable instructors, friendly training partners, and an educational environment. I have been going here for a few years now and I love it.
Dojo Kyle is a great place. Ive been attending class for a little over a month now, and I have not had a bad experience. Everyone at the dojo is very helpful and nice. You are always made to feel welcome as soon as you walk through the doors. I would and have recommended other people that I know to give this dojo a try. Best decision I made to join dojo Kyle.
Great place and great people! I was introduced to BJJ here and I love it!!!
I have been training at DOJO Kyle for a year. Im older, and 60 pounds over weight. Ryan and Will are awesome instructors, and really work with my strengths and weakness. This is a Jiu Jitsu gym that centers its instruction around the soft art, family, and friendship. Ive trained in other gyms that just want to pound you into the ground - these guys are great and work at a pace that i can understand.
Dojo Kyle offers a very professional, yet welcoming atmosphere that allow beginners and seasoned practitioners alike to feel right at home. Top of the line coaching and a very didactic approach to strong basics and advanced techniques make dojo Kyle a staple in the local Brazilian Jiu Jitsu community.
I am one of those overprotective parents. I want to bash the faces of every child that has ever hurt any of mines. As parents, it is our duty to protect our children and make them feel safe...but the reality is that with certain situation we are helpless. We cannot be by our childrens side 24/7 to protect them.Too many times have we experienced our children easily bullied at school, on the school bus, at the park or places that they will encounter other children and even at family gatherings. Unfortunately, as parents we cannot go smacking other children for hurting ours without ending up behind bars...so the next best thing would be to give your child the tools they need to defend themselves. We decided to finally enrolled our two oldest age 11 and 6 after many years of constantly being bullied. Honestly, it was one of the best decisions we made. Coach Ryan and Coach Will are the best! They teach the student good sportmanship, respect the students and teaches them to respect eachother, they take extra time for those who needs it, they encourage the students and have tons of patience. Even as a parent I am lacking in patience compared to Ryan and Will. :) We truly appreciate all the others that stick around to help out as well. There is no lack in helpers at Dojo Kyle.I highly recommend you enroll your child at Dojo Kyle if you are seeking for some type of martial arts for self defense for them. My children are learning and training how to get out of real life situations and if you have daughters...be wary of what they will encounter as they get older. And if you are wondering if this training will help or will you be wasting your money and time investing in it. The answer is...YES it will truly help. Sometimes its their only line of defense. My 11yr old has already defended herself from a boy at school. He is taller, stronger and much bigger than her. She manage to use her osoto move that she was taught to quickly take a boy at her school down and avoided further assault from him. Yes! It was a proud moment for her father and I. The boy was suspended after further investigation. It turns out that my daughter was not the first student he pushed, kicked and punched.I cannot wait to see my childrens progress in the near future...I am 100% confident that Coach Ryan, Coach Will and everyone else at Dojo Kyle will see my girls through and eventually I can let my guard down alittle knowing that my babies will defend themselves when they need to. We are definitely making BJJ a lifestyle for our children and eventually our two other younger ones when they are ready.Thank you everyone at Dojo Kyle for making us feel welcome and bringing out the warrior in our children. :)
I have been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Dojo Kyle for three years. The instructors, Ryan and Will, are both extremely knowledgeable and are exceptional coaches. There is a heavy emphasis on mastering the fundamentals and training safely to ensure that there are no injuries. Everyone that trains at Dojo Kyle is very humble and friendly, which makes for a very relaxed and inviting environment. If you are interested in learning a legitimate self-defense, want to get into great physical shape and make life long friends, then I would highly recommend training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Dojo Kyle.
Awesome people and an awesome place to train
Great place with awesome coaches!!
