My husband and I went to Key west mid December and used Pro Guides twice. It was a very professional but laid back experience. This was the first time I had gone fishing in the ocean like this was expectations were that I was excited but you really can’t control fish or the weather. Caught multiple fish to bring back to hurricane hole for them to cook for us after our captain filleted the fish for us. Also caught shark and barracuda. Absolutely recommend this experience and company.
Wonderful experience for a mom and adult son. From the very beginning it was easy to get information and book a trip. We booked a Back Country trip and got Captain David Lamb who was outstanding. Showed us what to do and gave helpful hints, as we were new to this. We snapped a couple of lines on the poles and he was very good natured about fixing them and getting us going again. Great music, beautiful water, a breezy sunny day and he took us to where the fish were biting. At the end of the trip, Captain David offered this unsteady mom a helpful hand to assist off the boat and cleaned the fish we caught. We loved this trip and making memories and an A++ for Captain David. We will be back.
My wife and I spent six hours in the gulf with Captain Brad Nowicki in mid April, 2021. Brad was in a simple phrase, seriously knowledgeable. The wind was up the day we were scheduled to fish, so Brad took us out to the Gulf as opposed to the plan, which was off shore to the Atlantic. We felt completely comfortable and secure with Brad, he is a confident and intelligent guide. We fished in 12-32 feet of water at several locations and the action was non-stop. By the end of the day we caught approximately 30-40 porgy, 12-14 yellowtail, a handful of grunts. We landed a dozen or so red grouper including one nice eight pounder, but all out of season. My wife also caught one hogfish, which was also out of season.Toward the end of the day Brad caught some baitfish and my wife and I shared the catch of the day, a 14 pound cobia! It was a great day on the water, and we are already discussing our next trip to the Keys!Thank you Key West Pro Guides and Captain Brad, job well done!
Love this company. I would highly recommend fishing with Key West Pro Guides any day.
This place only has 13 Google reviews but nearly 1,500 on TripAdvisor. We winged it and went off of the reviews from TripAdvisor KWPG had and we booked a 3/4 date Charter with Captain Kody Michael. This was for my daughters 21st birthday. Kody did not disappoint and he was very engaging and busy the entire trip making sure we all had a good time and were on fish. We finished with a huge load of snapper fillets that we had cooked that night for us at a local restaurant. If you book with Key West Pro guides I can give you first-hand testimony of how good our visit was with Captain Kody. we are already planning our next trip
Terribly unprofessional and rude. Would highly recommend finding an alternative.
Captain Tyler put us on the fish, that’s for sure! He is super knowledgeable, PATIENT, and friendly. Takes good care of his boat & passengers. Would give ten stars if I could; he will be seeing us again, for sure
What an awesome experience. As a river guide in Wyoming, I am eager to write this stellar review of a guide service that has it together. Capt. Paul and his team are top notch. I have fished with them since 2007 and each and every trip has been great. Some trips you catch more fish than others, but they know their stuff and don’t stop working hard to put you on the fish. I have never had a bad day with them and have fished many of their guides, Capt. Paul, Capt. Tyler, Capt. David. Capt. Tyson, Capt. Brad and many others that were just fun to be around. This last trip was one of my favorites. Last week we fished with our favorite guide, Capt. Dave Brucker. Capt. Dave is very good at his profession. He runs a beautiful 26ft. Century bay boat with a tower and even a head for the wife 😊. Capt. Dave always has a game plan the day before the trip with your wishes in mind. We booked two ¾ day trips and told him to do what he felt would make a great trip. We headed west each day and it was the right call both times. At the end of two great days, we landed 6 Cobias to 32lbs., two limits of Mangrove Snappers, 9 Barracuda, lost count on the Yellow jacks, lost count on the Sharks and even jumped three Tarpon on accident 😊 (November isn’t Tarpon season). After each trip we had the best lunch at the dock of fresh Snapper and a few ice cold beers. I understand the in’s and out’s of guiding and know a great team when I see one. These guys work very well together and share information to make sure each and every trip has the best chance of success. I already have my trips booked for next April and May, can’t wait to get back down and fish these guys again!!Capt. DrewCody, WY.
Great Experience. We have fished with Anthony for 3 years in a row now and could not have asked for a better time. Although it kind of ruined fresh water fishing for me but only because we have so much fun in the keys fishing. Always recommend you guys.
We had an absolutely fantastic experience. My 14 year old and I were able to have the best fishing day we have ever experienced. Not only did we catch our limit of mangrove snappers, but my boy even caught a bonnet head shark! They bent over backwards to make the day special and make my boy feel special. Thank you so much!
Key West Pro Guides brokered a charter with Captain Evan Tingley. He was just not prepared and was very unprofessional. As we were a group of 6, we were confirmed to go in a larger thirty-some foot boat. The night before we were told we would be going in a 29 with no explanation. The captain chain smoked the entire time and never once had more than three rods in the water. Most of us sat around wondering why we werent actually fishing. Furthermore, he never explained safety procedures or where life jackets could be found. He was also injured and unable to walk on his foot because of an injury the day before. Therefore, he wasnt able to help out the way we had anticipated. It showed that he was unprepared and unprofessional about canceling or rescheduling. Because of this our trip was cut short and never offered an apology. I would avoid him at all costs.
10/10 will book again! These guys deserve way more than the current 3.8 Google rating! Check them out on trip advisor before passing up the trip of a lifetime! Thanks KWPG and thank you Captain David Lamb!
Absolutely fantastic experience. This is my 5th fishing trip with the Pro Guides Team over the last 3 years, they impress at every turn. This past week I brought my entire sales force of 38 regional managers to let them experience some warm weather and great fishing. Capt. Roc and owner, Capt. Paul were very professional and put together ten boats for us that gave us a great experience. The winds were a little high, but they had a strong game plan that kept us comfortable and rods bent for the 5 hour trip. The guides filleted the fish and the restaurant at the dock hosted our group to an awesome fish fry. Like I said earlier this is my 5th trip with Pro Guides. I have fished with Capt. Tyler, Capt. Anthony, Capt. David and Capt. Paul, all were a blast to spend the day with on the water. These guys simply love what they do and it shows!! I would trust them and their honest thoughts on what makes a great day on the water. They will put you on the fish!!Gary McCann
I fished with captain Dave Brucker in early December. He is a great angler and a pleasure to be around! His 24 Bay boat got us out to our fishing grounds on the south side of the Marquesas pronto! I got two of the largest mutton snapper Ive ever caught and a ton of other great eating fish including two hog fish, my absolute favorite. I caught enough to feed our party of 4 for the entire month! Thanks Dave, for a great trip!
My husband and three adult sons enjoyed a morning backcountry fishing trip. They were able to catch a number of fish and we had more than enough to feed our group of six a king size lunch. I had spoken to Capt Roc when I set up this adventure for them, and I was surprised when they told me they had only fished in one spot. However, they had a good time and were not complaining.
Going fishing with John Jackson was one of the worst experiences of my life. I came to Key West for my bachelor party with 6 of my friends to have the time of our lives. For our one excursion, we decided to go Tarpon fishing. My brother spent a lot of time and money setting this up for me and I was really excited, as I had never gone deep sea fishing before. The entire time on the boat, John Jackson did ALL of the fishing. He criticized everything we did and never even showed us how to do anything. He was extremely rude and condescending when we attempted to ask questions. We felt like John was more interesting in keeping his caught the most fish title than showing us a good time and allowing us to experience the open water and fishing as we had paid a lot of money to do. I would not recommend using John Jackson at Key West Pro Guides. Sadly, it was a waste of money and our valuable time in Key West.
Had two great days fishing with Captain Anthony. He really was an expert in finding the fish we wanted. Reasonably priced. Will definitely make it part of every Key West trip.
Capt Dave Brucker and Key West Pro Guides made for an outstanding weekend! Couple of friends booked a trip and had an outstanding day on the water with Capt Dave -- a total professional. We told Capt Dave in advance what we were looking for -- fill the cooler, not tarpon -- and he adjusted plans. He gave plenty of expert advice and it was a outstanding day on the water. Caught our limit and had the best fresh seafood cooked at the dockside restaurant less than hour after we returned.
Proguides was awesome I had a great experience of reef fishing. it was my first time looking forward to going back next year. Dave our captain was hilarious and knew were all the fishing holes are. I recommend you visit if it is your first time to key west thanks pro guide for a great experience.
This is an honest review. We went on 3 fishing charters with Key West Pro Guides and we will not be going with them again. The first one was with Captain Ryan. He took us to a lot of different fishing spots, he was nice, put bait on all of our lines and worked hard to ensure we had a good trip. The only problem was that he didnt answer his phone the night before. We originally told the guy who books all these trips that we wanted to fish with lures and he only ended up having one on his boat. Your fishing desires must not get shared with the captains because he flat out said he does not fish with lures at all. He didnt have anything prepared because we couldn’t get a hold of him the night before. Overall, it was a good trip. The second time, we went with a guy that was very friendly and listened to what we wanted to do with the fishing trip. The only issue was that his boat broke down twice. Luckily, we werent far away from the marina so it ended up being okay. Overall a good trip. This last time, we went with Capt. Dave Brucker and it was NOT a good experience. We planned our ENTIRE stay around this fishing trip. We specifically wanted to go to the Merquesas Keys this time. We flew out from the pacific northwest and brought a friend so it was a big deal. He called us the morning of saying he didnt think we should go there and tried to cancel the trip altogether. We were really disappointed but decided to fish locally. We had run into another guide at a bait shop the day before who said he was also taking people out to the Merquesas Keys the following day and wished us luck so it really seems like we could have gone. Dave did take us out locally but complained and cursed at us the entire time. He cursed at us for getting his lures bit off by fish, the way we were trying to hook fish and for going through the bait fish. He made comments like an 8 hour fishing day is so long I dont know why people book these and at least the time is passing. He had a sour attitude the whole time. We drove around the long way to every fishing spot. We only fished for a total of maybe 3 hours. He took us back to the marina an hour and a half early AND made us pay full price. He said if we didnt, it would come out his pocket. He also smoked the entire time we were out there and got burning ash on our arms. Overall, a terrible experience. The captain was clearly trying to waste time on the water and drag the day out because he obviously didnt want to be there. Jokes on us because we spent a ton of money on this trip, including hard earned PTO, to go to the Marquesas with a captain who had no interest in being out there and who was a total jerk. We would have been better off just fishing the bridges. We wont be going with them again.
I chose Pro Guides because of their excellent reviews. I called and Capt. Roc gave me great advice on which trip to choose. My 3 friends and I showed up for our half day backcountry trip and it was an amazing day: I landed an 80 lb. tarpon, then we caught snappers, before finishing up our day with a couple lemon sharks. Both our guides were excellent and handled the trip perfectly. It was a great experience to get off the boat and eat what we had caught. I couldnt have been happier and will definitely be using Key West Pro Guides next time!
Great trip today with Captain CodyThe best by far.
Chuck donney took us out Fishing today the worse f day in my life . he insulted us we couldnt fish he was yelling at us move move move for some reason we were always in his way couldnt take pics just the meanes person Ive ever met in my life .with no respect for anybody will never fish with him again in my life. plz fine you a different place to fish if you reading this
I booked with KWPGs in April 2012. Top notch from the minute we stepped on Capt. Jacksons 24ft Yellow Fin. (And we stepped on board with over 100 years of fishing experience). By the time we got back to the dock after day 1 everyone on board trip had declared it was the single best day of fishing we ever experienced. The conditions helped, but is was Jacksons ability to put us on the fish that made all the difference. Double hook-ups on 15-18lbs Permit all morning, Sailfish by lunch, a 10lb Mahi for good measure, and a couple of life-time Tarpon (100-150lbs) for my Dad and I as the sun set. The next day was windy but we had fun with Snapper on light tackle, and a few Lemon sharks to add to the excitment in the mangroves. Great trip, we will be back. Thanks again...tight lines!
Im writing this after fishing with KWPG but also after writing a review on TripAdvisor (Highs and Lows the title) that the owner of KWPG responded to but that Tripadvisor gives me no opportunity to address (for 3 more months). KWPG does an excellent job of customer interaction and service. Although the owner (Captain Paul) is very modest when he says there were zero attempts to sell you anything..... KWPG is much more efficient at this than other charter services. I received several e-mails using phrases in reference to my charter captain like he can catch fish in a parking lot and in reference to KWPG we assure you of memories of a lifetime. I admired the effort - and the gentleman (Captain Roc) writing the e-mails - and booked. The long and short of the trip itself was nothing much was caught. The fish that were caught were a few grunts, all 1lb or less. As a note, this is the one thing I told both captain Roc and my boat captain I didnt want to fish for. I also said I didnt care what we DID fish for, they were the experts. Other than the spot with the snapper, we went to one other spot where neither my party, nor the captain himself, could get a bite. Oh, well, as I said in my tripadvisor review, if fishing were a guarantee it would be called catching. My real amusement with KWPG came after I read Capt Pauls response. To be fair, Paul responds to nearly every tripadvisor review, but importantly its how he responds to reviews less than 4 or 5 stars that struck me - somewhere in his opening paragraph is a statement about Im in no way defensive..... but then the next 2000 words he writes are thinly veiled to suggest that the reviewers account of their own experience was wrong. Fascinating. The more I thought about this the more I actually admired Captain Paul. You see, he strongly encourages customers to leave a review on tripadvisor. Hell send you a free T-shirt, in fact. And to prevent another occurence of Pauls extreme modesty, lets also just say hes hopeful the review will be 5 stars. Did I mention the free T-shirt? Then, if one leaves a review less than 5 (or perhaps 4) stars he generally responds attempting to discredit the reviewer. Its sort of the customers fault for their less than 5 star experience. Read the tripadvisor reviews (and responses) yourself noting the reviews that are 3 stars or less. But, again, this is all masterful marketing as far as Im concerned. Why? Because, unlike other Key West charter services, Captain Paul has put in the work to concentrate a large number of reviews that are very postitive (recall, he encourages - putting it mildly - 5 star reviews). And for those that arent, he cleverly writes a good-old-boy, homespun response that leads the casual reader to think the original reviewer was out to lunch. After all, how could it possibly be that a man so unabashedly outspoken on providing 5 star service could ever have an employee that doesnt, or have a customer that doesnt catch fish? And what all of the above boils down to is this: Capt Paul is running a good and very legitimate business. To read tripadvisor, youd think hes clearly the best - if not only - charter service in Key West. Well, hes certainly not the only. And as far as best goes, you dont stay in business unless you (fairly regularly) produce fish for customers. Were KWPG the only service doing this, theyd be the only service in Key West. And if not catching fish isnt the captains fault, then you can not catch fish with any charter. And since KWPG cant assure you that you WILL catch fish - which would be absurd - then KWPG really offers no clear advantage over others. All the marketing on their website about agents booking trips, etc. is nonsense. I didnt book with KWPG because I wasnt dealing with an agent, I booked to catch fish. I didnt. And had I went with another charter, I may have, or may not have. Summary: my advice is to go with the best value you find, not necessarily who has the most reviews on tripadvisor.
Always a good time with jackson!
