Disappointed to write this review, but others need to know. Our general contractor hired Pinch A Penny (Joe Trageser, Indiantown Road) for a complete renovation of our pool including a conversion to salt water and installation of an auto fill. Initially, we were pleased with the quality of the work but then became disappointed when a few issues surfaced and Joe’s lack of follow-up; he never returned calls/texts from our contractor or us. We became concerned when our skimmers did not appear to be working and called Red Rhino (great company) to investigate the situation. They identified the issues – one skimmer line was never connected to the pump, the other skimmer line was cracked and the vacuum line was also never connected. Their conclusion was that the lines were never tested because these issues would have been identified if the testing had been done. At our request, Joe came over and looked at the situation Red Rhino discovered; he agreed the work was not done correctly and committed to pay our cost for Red Rhino to do the repair. Subsequently, he changed his mind and wanted to have his team do the repair (the same team that didn’t complete the work correctly). We said “no” and had Red Rhino do the repair. He then reneged on his commitment and did not pay for the repair cost – very disappointed. Would not recommend them to others.
I have lost all faith in this store. I have dealt with arrogance and belittling comments from one particular employee. The owners daughter is a great asset to the store. I recently called the owner and left a message as I wanted to replace my pump and filter. My call was never returned so I did the logical thing and went elsewhere. They lost the sale, the install and a weekly maintenance customer.
Hey! Pinch-a-Penny 😠😤😡🤬You need to change your website business hours this isnt the first time I got there at 3:50 PM on a Sunday and you were closed already.
Place is great! I have been using this place to help me keep my pool perfect. They can give you great advice. And if you need major repairs, they have the people to get it fixed. Just inquire.
We bought the house and they were the ones that had worked with the previous owners. Joe came out and did the Pool School and explained all of the equipment, functions and programs. We hired them for weekly service and Pete is going a good job. When I had additional questions, Joe came out personally and handled all of the requirements.Happy with their response and appreciate the good service!
Really bad service all around. I have spent thousands of dollars at Pinch a penny in Jupiter. New salt water system, two new tiger shark pool sweepers and countless amounts of chemicals and supplies. Over the years I have ignored Pauls rude comments and blaming me for buying a $1k tiger shark. He said I should have not bought a tiger shark and he doesnt recommend it, yet they sell it in the store and I bought two of them from him...I most recently added their service to clean my pool and it actually got worse than when I did it. They never showed up on scheduled days and then never returned my calls or emails. Then they said it was my salt water system but for two weeks never came out to fix it....Do not deal with pinch a penny unless you want to be extremely frustrated. It seems they are too busy and complacent to care about any single customer...
Rude, very unfriendly owner. Not going back...ever! Joe submitted an estimate for pool resurface nearly twice as much as a true pool company. Always trying to sell you chemicals you dont need. Plenty of great pool supply stores around Jupiter. Dropping of my chlorine bottles at the door, you can have them!
Very friendly and helpful.
I wish I didn’t have to write this review, as for years I loved being a regular customer at this store, but as of the past couple of months, things have changed. Some of the newer employees just make it unpleasant every time I come in. Whether it be for a refill on chlorine or just to simply get my pool water tested.I have to say, Joe and Jose and some of the rest of the staff are incredible at their jobs, and are all around wonderful people who are very professional and very polite, but as I stated, some of the newer management and some of the newer employees have left me no choice but to switch to a different pool store.
This was my go to pool supply place for many years, but something has changed. The last 2 pool pump motors that Ive purchased here have each failed before 2 years. In both cases, there was no water intrusion inside the motor. When I purchased the motors I purchased new seals and had the staff here install the seals to cover myself from that perspective. Also, I had added a vented motor cover as suggested by the store when I replaced the last motor. When I went to the store with the latest failed motor (and receipts for the motor and the seal), the manager told me their motors were only warrantied for 12 months. He was getting ready to sell me a new motor at $200+. I asked him if he could offer any kind of discount given the circumstances and he said no. Now thats some great customer service for a long time customer. Granted, by the letter of the law (i.e. 12 month mfg warranty), they can take this approach, but wouldnt it be smarter to take better care of a loyal customer?I checked on Amazon, and I can order the exact same motor for $50 cheaper and have it next day. So, between online options and the other local stores within one mile (Leslies and East Coast), I will be taking my business elsewhere. Its a shame some businesses dont see the bigger picture.
So far Ive had a perfect experience with this location. Ive been using them for all my pool needs for only a couple months now but have been very happy with all my interactions, particularly today. One of their service techs, Jose, came out to my house today and did a stellar job. Im new to owning a pool and he was very patient and kind in helping me. He taught me how to handle the pool myself and didnt rope me into a bunch of costs. I was a little embarrassed about my problems and was worried that it would cost a lot to fix, and Jose put all those fears to rest immediately. Im now willing to continue with this Pinch-A-Penny for everything I need for the future because of the experience I had with Jose today. Their prices have been competitive too. But in general, the manager Joe has always given me great customer service, such as carrying the pool chemicals to my car. The employees have been also helpful, particularly the young lady with glasses who always does a great job and is very respectful.
These people serviced or pool for 5 months. I had to go into store or call a few times a month. The pool was never right. I spoke with the owner of the business, Joe a few times. there was a white powder on bottom of pool & anytime we would use pool it would become cloudy. I had asked several times for pool to be vacuumed, they told me they did but it was obvious it never was!! They canceled our service with out even notify the property owner. They hired a new company & pool was fixed on 1st visit. It was obvious when I watch the new company vacuum & clean filter that Pinch a Penny was doing nothing but dropping chemicals in. The filter was NASTY. It has been a few days now & the pool is crystal clear!!I would stay as far as possible away from their services as possible, especially when the owner Joe promises to have it fixed & no one ever shows up!!
A nice family atmosphere. Respectful workers. Nice variety of things for the pool. Free water testing. They also have service appointments and installation of pool equipment. We dont go anywhere else and we would definitely recommend it.
I have been a loyal customer at this store for 15 years. I went yesterday to pick up a 8 extra jugs of chlorine to do some pool deck cleaning. Even though I only needed the extra jugs for 1 day, I was told I needed to pay a deposit on the extra jugs. No problem. However today upon returning the extra jugs, I was informed that I purchased the jugs and no deposit will be returned. The manager said this was their new corporate policy. Very poor handling over a simple matter with a long time customer.
Used for approx 3 months and had nothing but problems. Pool started to get algae as soon as they took over. Brought photos to the store to show what was happening and also to voice my complaint. after the third time I complained I guess that was too much and they told landlord they were no longer going to do the pool . Owner told the landlord the pool was spotless I find that funny since he never even came to the house to look at the problem. spoke to other Pool Services is in the area who said they’re famous for doing what they call splash and dash, pool cleaner on the last visit spent 7 minutes cleaning the pool and didn’t even wipe off the algae that was on my pool lights even though the week prior I spoke to the girl in the office and showed her the photos of the algae on the lights stay away from this service
We have used this location since before Joe took it over. He improved the store and added services. We get all our chemicals and pool needs for routine servicing which we do ourselves. Recently we had them install a new filter, and a couple of years ago they resurfaced our pool. Excellent in every way!
I applied for a job position as a Maintenance Technician” and received a call from Joe the owner of the company the next day for a job interview. I arrived at the store location in Jupiter to meet with Joe for an interview, but had the worst experience ever! During the interview, Joe interrupted our interview multiple times to help customers, talk to his employees, and had me waiting for several minutes at times. At this time, I began to think Joe was very unprofessional in the way he presented himself as an owner of a company; however, I respectfully waited for him after each interruption. After all the interruptions, Joe came back to further explain details of the job duties, and said he would like to hire me for the position I applied for. Joe handed me a drug - test forum and explained I must have this done immediately so he can start the hiring process. I immediately drove to the drug-testing center after the interview. After three days had passed since the interview, I had not received a phone call from Joe so I decided to call him. Joe answered the phone and explained I applied for a position three days ago with your company, but you never got back to me. In a haste manner, he said he found someone else and made an abrupt effort to end the conversation and hung up the phone. For those who are applying for a job with this company, please read this and learn from my unfortunate experience that Joe is very unprofessional in the way he handles his business. Don’t let Joe waste your time like he wasted mine.
Hired them to re-surface my pool, add pavers, add a grill, and build a fire pit. Was going to give one star but gave two stars since the work they did do was actually pretty good. Unfortunately, theres still four or five outstanding items and I cant get a return call. Embarrassingly poor service. The most disappointed Ive been in a company in a long time.
They can be a little snobby about pool maintenance for the new pool owner, but that is because they take it seriously. Helpful staff, super knowledgable and they have me an incredibly competitive price for a new salt system. They made it easy to choose a neighborhood shop over an online discount place.
Joe has been great over the many years that we have lived in Jupiter and doing business with him. He has always treated us right and taken good care of us when we needed. Would highly recommend!
I am so disappointed by the lack of service I have received. I went with a national company expecting to get standard service....associated with the name. Boy have I been sorely disappointed. I have been using them for about 5 months. I have received service about 1 or if Im luck 2 times a month. I pay for weekly service. I call endlessly (they MUST be sick of it) they have refunded me for no service...and yet it continues. I have left messages for the owner to call 3 times. He apparently doesnt care because I have never received a return call. The folks in the store are great and helpful...too bad they have to take the brunt for a poorly run business.
I went to pinch a penny after receiving an estimate from another place to resurface my pool which I felt was a little high. Joe gave me a much better price and was extremely accommodating throughout the entire process. Over a year has passed and while he is not obligated to help, Joe still goes out of his way to help me with any issues that arise. I have no trouble going to Joe for anything related to my pool. It is really hard to find people you can trust since most just want to take your money. Joe and Pinch a Penny do business the right way.
Went this morning and had one the worst customer service experiences. Upon checkout, the buy 10 get 1 free coupon had expired ( by 2 weeks ) . The (manager) Paul came over and grabbed the receipt out of the cashiers hand and immediately yelled at me THIS IS WHY WE SPEND MONEY TO PRINT THE EXPIRATION DATE ON THE RECEIPT... I tried to inform him that my wife had stopped in 3 weeks earlier and they would honor it the next time we come back... He basically continued on his tirade that he was the manager and theres NOTHING that can be done, thats the rules (this continued in front of customers and employees. After deciding to defuse the situation by walking out to my car, he followed me out mumbling smarts comments along the way. All of this for a $5.00 coupon.... My 10 year Loyalty to this store has come to an end.FINAL NOTE.... Joe (the owner) is a great person to deal with. He has treated me and my family with consideration and professional service for the past 10 years
We have used this store for over 16 years for service and chemicals, and the staff is very helpful and prices seem reasonable. So thanks to the staffs helpfulness and the lessons I have learned from Joe as to the pool equipment.
Never left a bad review in my life, but this company is awful. Stopped servicing my pool, which is fine: there are plenty of pool companies around, but THEY DID NOT TELL ME ABOUT IT. So my pool is now bright green, and requires additional maintenance. These guys are a bunch of drop-out clowns. Find someone competent.
Went to the store and set an appointment for Joe to come out. He came out and seemed knowledgeable and said he would get back to me later that day or the next. Never heard back. I called a few times and left messages that were never returned and then some guy showed up at my house. I guess he is a tech. Luckily we had family in town and they were there to let the guy in. The tech started the work and never returned. I have called three separate times since then and have yet to get a response from the owner. I am baffled. I need repairs and service and they just blew it off.
Joe is a great owner! The staff is very friendly and helpful. Jose does excellent service work.
THE WORST. I Hired them to clean my poll weekly.First visit all they did was screen the top of my pool. They left it FILTHY with no chemical report no testing of automatic filter. NOTHING! Contacted the owner who apologized and made an appointment to come to the house to meet with me.. HE NEVER SHOWED OR EVEN GIVEN ME A COURTESY CALL THAT HE WOULDNT MAKE IT. How they are in business is mind boggling..WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT TO USE!!!
Hired them to service a pool at a home thats for sale. Every time we checked the place, the pool needed cleaning but we just thought it was due to the storms weve been having. Recently, we called to ask about service and learned their guy had been there the day before! The pool was very dirty, it was obvious no one had serviced it for some time. They just billed us and didnt bother doing the work! Hired a different company who immediately replaced the filter which hadnt been replaced in months (it was filthy) and did a good job of cleaning/servicing. I do NOT recommend this company!
Always nice and EASY experience-they DO IT ALL!!
Have used this store for over 20 years and got great service and products. Full service offered from supplies to service and installation.
They refinished my pool about a year and half ago and it turned out to be two different colors. I have contacted the owner at least 12 times and he has never returned any of my calls. Even worse I have warranty for the work performed.
Open late and very helpful tx guys!
First time in enjoyed the knowledgeable staff!
Good people
Very helpful!
Joe and his staff rock!
