Looking back, my first experience here a few years ago should have been a huge red flag. My dog had her first seizure. They said she had a respiratory infection. I didnt know it was a seizure until it happened again a few days later and the symptoms really clicked. I gave them the benefit of the doubt that I didnt describe the situation well and they did the best they could with what they knew.A few weeks ago we had a kitten fall off the bed and hurt its leg. We took it in and things went relatively well we thought. I got a bad taste in my mouth that they didnt bring the cost estimate in until after theyd done the most expensive part of the visit (x-ray) but yet again I tried to give the benefit of the doubt that maybe they were busy and got things mixed up.The massive splint they put on his leg moved before the day was even over. We ended up back there the next evening. They insisted they had to do it all over again. X-rays, sedation, etc. The vet proceeded to talk down to us like we were children and suggested that we needed to get a surgical consult for amputation! After spending $1,000 there in 36 hours and sick of their attitude we said wed think about it.We went to our regular vet who was in awe of the too big splint that would harm the kittens other developing joints. They have managed to put more appropriately sized splints that havent moved for weeks at a time and done it without sedation. Hes now almost completely healed and a perfectly happy kitten besides the fact that we wont let him jump around. Oh and weve spent less than $200 for 3 appointmentsπŸ€·β€β™€οΈAre they good in an emergency? Probably better than nothing. I dont think theyre evil and the facility is nice and clean. I just think their goals and attitudes are mixed up.

My last experience here awful. We were seen by Jacqueline Nobles, who was the least compassionate doctor I have ever met. We came to get our cat checked out because she has been having issues eating and had a swollen face this morning. She has recent previous issues with eating and it causing liver issues. We communicated everything we could so we could get our cat feeling better and figure out what we needed to do because she needs treatment and nutrition as soon as possible. She didn’t come in to the room until 3 hours later. She only asked a couple questions about what has been going on and then turns us away because she doesn’t have time to do a blood test. She proceeded to sit there in silence until I had to ask her if she was going to do anything for our cat moving forward because our cat is sick, won’t eat, and has a swollen face for god knows why. I hope I never have to see that woman again. She made it a horrible experience and I hope no one has to bring their pets to her. Other than Nobles, the rest of the staff were kind and extremely helpful during our stay. If only we received that same energy with Jacqueline.

I brought by 5year old dog here because my local vet recommended them. He suddenly lost his ability to blink and walk straight. Well they β€œcouldn’t tell me anything” without first running a $3000 MRI when the MRI came back clear they then decided he needed a spinal tap and blood panel which was another $800 and that also came back clear. After everything they could not give me any answers as to what was going on with him. We sadly had to put him to sleep just 3 days after he had all of this done. This place seems nice from the outside (probably because the amount of money they charge with NO diagnosis) but on the inside they are garbage. Charging pet parents crazy amounts of money because we would do anything to save our beloved pets. Save your time and money and find somewhere else to go, you won’t get a diagnosis here anyways.

Brought my dog in because he was having a first time seizer the other night. As any emergency it was unexpected. They took him in the back right away and started an IV. I filled out the paperwork and waited in a private room. Then the nurse came in and started asking questions that she should know to help my dog. Later we started talking about how much this is going to cost. Well I didnt have that much money in my account and needed a little time to get some money over to my account and such and such. Well long story short they stopped what they were doing because I wouldnt have the money in time and handed my dog back to me while he was still seizing. Pretty much I paid 200.00 for dollars for nothing and didnt even get to speak to a doctor about what is the problem or maybe the cause of it. Now I understand that they have to run a business and needs the money but it wouldnt of took me long to get the money in full. This place pretty much gave me the feeling that they care more about the $ than the fur baby. The staff was nice but still pretty much turned him away. Id 100% recommend Arab Veterinarian hospital in Arab, AL. They would never turn away any animal in need. Even if you had zero dollars to offer them. They would figure out some type of payment plan.

The care provided was great- however....,,, my dog needed a blood transfusion and received one while staying overnight under the care of the facility. Since this place is for emergencies and not long term care it’s understandable that you would retrieve your beloved pet and quickly transport them to their local veterinarian ( I do not live in Huntsville. ) which was done upon arrival the vet looked at her paperwork and said she needed another blood transfusion ASAP. They did not provide the service so we had to look for the nearest place since this place discharged her . The nearest place was in Huntsville and they actually have a full care clinic that is not for only emergency service right up the road. Unfortunately my dog died so, I will never know if another transfusion would have saved her . If you are from out of town and your dog has a blood transfusion and may need another upon discharge you will have to make sure you have that arrangement as you leave so that you will not have the experience I am having right now . Very poor communication and practices in my opinion.

We spoke with Renae upon arrival and she was very friendly and very helpful but it was downhill after that. We waited for almost an hour to be seen by a nurse and then wait to see the vet on call. There was only one other family there when we arrived and they left not long after we were put in a room. We were given a quote for bloodwork and testing and it was outrageous for something so simple. We were quoted a price of almost $800. They took our dog for another 2 hours and we could hear him crying in another room. After being there for over 4 hours I refused to wait any longer and left. We never received any diagnosis to help us know what was going on with our dog. I asked to pay for the bloodwork and the initial exam so that I could leave and was still charged almost $500 for nothing. They charge outrageous prices and don’t even help your animals.

We are new to Huntsville, AL. and our dog Rocco became ill suddenly yesterday evening. He had a bad diarrhea with blood and was vomiting. He refused to drink or eat and became a bit lethargic. We were scare. Not knowing where to go, I immediately looked on the internet and found HVSE. Luckily, they are opened 24/7. Christie was wonderful. She answered all of our questions. She heard what we had to say patiently and ensure us that Rocco would be in good hands. Indeed, he was! Dr. Jones took good care of him. So gentle and sweet with Rocco. They told us what he needed and never once we felt we were being overcharged. Two hours later, we were back home with a diagnostic, meds, and peace of mind! PS: Rocco is staring to feel better ... UPDATE: Rocco is doing much much better. He is eating and drinking. Had a great night! Vomiting and diarrhea seems to have stopped! Since we are new in town, and do not have a veterinarian yet, I called to get more of the Hill’s prescription food. Lauren answered the phone and immediately accommodated us. Happy Dog Happy Mom! On Thanksgiving day 2020, my mothers little Pomeranian was attacked in her own backyard by a neighbors dog who managed to breach the fence. Sadly, her sweet boy could not survive the speed and brutality of the attach and died in her arms on the way to the hospital. When we arrived at HVSE, they were incredibly respectful and sensitive to the emotions we were feeling after such a horrific incident. They were so gentle taking him from her arms to take him back for the doctor to confirm he had in fact passed. They took us to a private room and brought him in on a gurney so that we could say our final goodbyes to little Brody and gave us all the time we needed. They made his little paw print impressions in a keepsake box so that she would at least have something of him to take home with her until he was cremated. The cremation service they use out of Athens was amazing. When little Brodys remains came back only a few days later, the staff member retrieved him for me, took the time to carry the box and paperwork around the counter to hand him to me and offer their condolences...then even opened the door for me when I left. In the following days, my mother received a very nice sympathy card from HVSE signed by all the staff. What a nice touch and so thoughtful. It is clear that HVSE not only cares about the animals but the families they belong to. Once my moms heart heals and if she decides to get another fur baby....HVSE will be her office of choice!

My dog, my working Search & Rescue partner, was referred here to Dr Harriman for a possible low grade partial CCL tear. I was impressed with the evaluation given, the options fully discussed, and the hypothesis developed (slight iliopsoas injury, not CCL) after exam and discussion. Never was I disbelieved (working dogs hide pain! Yet he was observant enough to spot the weight shifting). We developed a plan to proceed with all potential avenues covered so there was a clear logical path forward. And he was right, it was not her CCL. The limp cleared up quickly following his recommendations based on the iliopsoas hypothesis. Finding a surgical specialist who will recommend things other than surgery is rare! I would highly recommend this place and in particular Dr Harriman.I also appreciated his wiliness to talk medically with me, as I have a background in anatomy, he spoke *to me* and not down at me, a noted distinction and honestly something I don’t often experience, especially as a female!

I am a veterinarian and I took my dog here when he suddenly lost his vision. The facility is really clean and I was seen quickly which I appreciate. I was seen by Dr. Narak the neurologist. From the time she entered the room it felt like she was already done with the appointment. It was very frustrating that she did not have the patience to listen to my history or answer my questions. She ordered a shotgun approach of tests and when they all came back normal, she had her assistant call me to write me off. As a fellow veterinarian I was very disappointed in her lack of bedside manner, communication, and attentiveness. It is completely ok if she doesnt know what is going on-but using her (very nice) assistant as a middle man and not calling me directly felt disrespectful. She did not offer to do more research to try to figure out what was going on with him and she also sent me mixed messaging regarding some of his physical exam findings. At first she said he did not have cognitive dysfunction based on the MRI, and then she had her assistant tell me it was probably cognitive dysfunction and to put him back on Prozac even though I previously told her it was making him worse. She also told me he had blindness related to the brain because his PLRs were normal and I should not see an ophthalmologist, but then later had her assistant tell me to go see an ophthalmologist. Overall I left feeling very disrespected with no answers and no communication directly from the neurologist.

We very recently got a beagle puppy who began showing a variety of symptoms. The first week we had her, we took her to the vet three times to have her checked out and get her better. Nothing they did (which was very little) helped, and I had resigned to going to a new vet. When I called to make the appointment Sunday evening, they advised that if our pup got any worse, I should bring her to this emergency vet. She didnt get worse, but I had been losing sleep over how worried I was for her, so I decided to take her to be safe.I spent 3 hours here, and in that time, they ran a slew of tests our vet failed to run, and sent us home with answers, medicine to ease her symptoms and help her recover. Its been less than 48 hours and our baby is already so much better.I hope to never have to return, but it is good to know if I need an emergency vet, I can go here and my pets can get the attention they deserve. The staff were all very sweet, and seemed to care about our pup as much as we do. It was also very affordable. I spent less here than in the 3 visits to my vet, and actually got results. I’m not incredibly impressed with this emergency service. A couple of weeks ago, I took my fur baby in when she became lethargic, was throwing up and very weak. Understandably enough, they weren’t able to come up with a definitive diagnosis for her, and I don’t begrudge them for that. It happens. I was told, however, that she likely had FIP (even though the doctor’s own tests and X-rays weren’t really indicative of it) or that she had feline leukemia (even though she tested negative twice in the last six weeks, because false negatives are possible). One of the biggest factors in the thought process that she had a terminal illness is because she is small, therefore she must have always been sick. I even asked if she possibly had a bad virus that she could recover from and was told probably not. I left there that night with the impression that she likely had a fatal illness and she had days, maybe weeks, to live. She stayed the night on fluids and being monitored and the next morning I took her to her primary care vet, where she stayed three more days. Following her discharge there, she was taken to see an internal medicine vet, whom determined that she had a virus (a non fatal one) that had insulted her bone marrow, but she was going to make a full recovery, and is well on her way already. I thank goodness that I had the financial resources to pursue her treatment because if I hadn’t, I likely would have had her euthanized then and there so that she wouldn’t suffer to a horrible inevitable death, not knowing that it actually wasn’t a death sentence. As it is, she will recover and there will be no signs or symptoms of this virus when she’s fully recovered; her quality or quantity of life won’t be affected, and I didn’t needlessly euthanize her because a vet one night didn’t have an answer so they led me to believe the very worst because she happens to be a little kitty (which incidentally played no part in her getting sick). Please, opt for a second opinion before making literal life and death decisions regarding your furbabies.

I was happy to see one receptionist come out of a room with cleaner in hand. With my mother having an auto immune disease I was maybe just being over protective, but not having a barrier between us like at our regular vet made me nervous. Her dog ended up staying the night on fluids. (Great staff and doctor) BUT I was mortified to come in the next morning to pick up her dog and to see all staff with NO MASKS ON! There is even a sign on the door stating masks were required. The receptionist was not wearing one and some of the staff members did not as well. The lady was very nice but I still worry that with covid being on the rise they need more precautions. After a week I still think we could have been exposed to covid from them. We don’t leave our house but unfortunately her dog was extremely sick. I’m worried my mother could become ill from this place. Again ER staffing were more reliable with guidlines but coming in at 7:45am I was very unhappy and felt as if they could have taken safer measures. 2 stars only because they treated my moms dog with great care overnight. After the 9k surgery he recovered well but on his discharge exam it was noted his gums were pale. Blood tests determined him to be anemic, after 3 blood transfusions (1even from Dr Ns cat) they could not find out why his blood count constantly went down. After 3 arrests we finally had to make that decision to let him go. Now I have a distraught 89yr old mother asking why her baby died after they said he was doing so well. I gave this clinic a 3 just for the efficiency of the staff but am amazed that such a high dollar clinic could not find out what was wrong with this cat when he was healthy other than the tumor. After all was said and done they charged her over 12k not to have her precious animal alive.

My sweet baby would have been 18 years old in 1 month. I had accidentally hit her backing out of my driveway. She would always run and jump on the porch anytime I started my car. This time she didnt. I kept telling myself the whole ride to the ER, she only had a broken leg. She did have a broken leg, but they felt it was more, possibly internal injuries as well. They had oxygen blowing on her to help her breathing and said her gums were very pale. They also explained they would do what ever I wanted, but if I wanted them to do surgery, it would probably Monday before they would attempt it. They would need time to get her stable, and the condition she was in at the time would not be recommended. She had not attempted to move after bringing her in. The doctor also mentioned, with her being almost 18 years old, it looked as if she had lived a very good life, which sent me into a waterfall of tears. I asked to see her, and they brought her to me wrapped in a blanket. She was awake, but not moving. And anyone that knows my Precious Angel, knows she will not sit still for anyone. Now, she would jump in your lap and take a nap, but if you picked her up, she wasnt having it. Thats when I knew, I would have to say goodbye to my furbaby. The entire staff was so caring and so compassionate while I was crying uncontrollably. They told me to take all the time I needed to make my decision. When they came back in, I let them know, I didnt want to let her go, but I knew it was for the best. They let me hold her while they gave her the sedative and then the meds to send her to the Rainbow Bridge. After they listened for a heartbeat, and said she was gone. They told me again, to take all the time I needed and I could stay there with her for as long as I wanted. Before I left, they gave me a little box with her paw prints that has a place to also put her picture. My heart is broken. She had been with me through so many good times and cheered me up through all of the bad times for almost 18 years. Its hard coming home each day and not having her run to the door to go in to get a bite to eat and then for some snuggle purring time. I can not thank the staff at HVSE enough for being so caring and helpful. If I ever do decide to get another pet, they will definitely be at the top of my list for care. I recommend them to anyone that needs care for their own furbabbies.

One of my older dogs fell on my 7 week old German Shepherd. Called this vet and explained that we found the dog passed out in its blood and we got her conscious and she was still trying to cough up blood and she wasnt walking right. They said to go ahead and bring her in and to fill out new patient form on the way so we could get her in faster. We explained we lived in Fayetteville Tn So We drive the nearly hour to get there just to be told Oh just to warn you its gonna be a 2 hr wait. This was even after we told them we were in the parking lot and she was still trying to cough up her blood. Luckily the Animal Emergency and Crital care was just around the corner. They took her back to check her out before I could even grab the paperwork to fill out.

This was a truly special experience. Which is crazy to say, because the reason we rushed here in the middle of the night to help our sweet kitten Onyx who was suffering with FIP to go peacefully. The staff here are incredible, I don’t know who was with us last night because I was so emotional and I forgot to ask their names. There were at least 5 or 6 faces I saw there to help us, and every single one of them was so kind and loving. I’m not religious, but I honestly felt like I was surrounded by angels, with how much they cared and looked after us.I did not expect this at all. I was overwhelmed by the support that was given. They let me put Onyx on my chest and let me pet him until he was purring, even through his difficult breathing, then they gave him the injection. He felt absolutely nothing and his entire body relaxed. I had no idea he had be straining so hard until that moment, watching that pain leave his body.Everyone was there for us. They touched Onyx and pet him even after he went. They hugged us, brought us water, listened to me cry. Everything. It took so much weight from me to know there was that much care for a kitten and owner they didn’t know anything about. They were even adamant we take a paw print and case to remember him by, no charge. It was a wonderful token and thought. The final bill was also a complete shock, we decided to take Onyx home to bury him and the equipment use and chemicals came very close to at cost. For the love and support we were given, what was used, and how last minute we arrived, that price is so little. It was far less than I have ever seen from other places that charge up to half a thousand for euthanasia and their cremation services. I don’t know how much they would charge here for cremation, but I doubt it is unrealistic. They care so much, and not one moment did I feel like this was anything but a place to rescue and recover animals from suffering.I am so thankful for this and I am able to wake up and bury my sweet fur baby today without any regrets about how he died and where he was when he left us.Thank you so much, all of you.

My kitten was attacked by a dog, so my family brought him here since our regular vet was closed for the weekend. They did the surgery, it went well, but they did the bare minimum to fix him. We were not told of possible complications that did happen, resulting in the need for another surgery and him being in pain for hours until he finally stopped breathing even before the 2nd surgery. They did not do everything they could have to save him.

Second emergency vet office I called today. I was referred to the first by our regular vet’s (who we love) after hours office message. The first emergency vet was not very nice on the phone so I called Huntsville Veterinary Specialist. They were super friendly on the phone; Kristy (sorry if I misspelled the name) was sweet and made sure I knew the price of the visit (emergency vet care is never cheap) in a nice, professional way. Big delta in professionalism between the two calls. When my husband arrived with our dog he was promptly greeted and cared for. He said the vet was extremely nice and thorough. All is well now, our pooch has meds and is now comfortably resting at home, and the bill while high wasn’t astronomical. I just wanted to share my gratitude for the great service and honest pricing practices. They also gave a military discount which is always deeply appreciated.

Not one to write reviews, but Im beyond impressed with the service I received tonight. The staff was professional, personable, and every single person I encountered was well educated. Everyone was kind. They made sure we understood everything that was happening and made it clear we could call with questions even days after we had left. They also made sure we were educated on pseudosciences that are common right now and bad for pets.My dog still has a long road to recovery but I would still say that this is the #1 place I would recommend if your dog or cat is in a crisis.

I don’t recommend this place unless you have an abundance amount of money or lines of credit/can qualify for lines of credit. I brought my dog here as a referral from Petsmart because he needed emergency surgery and I didn’t qualify for the line of credit and I didn’t have $4000 cash or credit. They wouldn’t even work with me to help my poor dog. The nurse told me we needed to go back to Petsmart and put him on fluids and β€œhope for the best” even though they already knew the fabric in the small intestine wouldn’t pass and he would die. These people don’t care about the quality of animals life unless you have a ton of money to pay them.

Dr. Harriman and his surgical staff saved my dog! She had to have emergency surgery due to a foreign object in her small intestines. Another ER clinic missed it altogether!! The rules for COVID-19 did not allow us inside for her initial exam, but the veterinarian staff communicated quickly to save our dog. Dr. Harriman and his emergency surgical team were there in less than an hour! Dr. Harriman called us immediately after her surgery. He spoke in detail on how it went and what to expect. They even allowed us inside to see her the next morning. Every nurse, vet tech and receptionist/staff went above and beyond to answer all our questions during & after we brought her home. We are very blessed to have found them when we did!!

He was having difficulty breathing and was suffering more than we ever wanted him to have to go through. We were seen immediately and we able to spend as much time saying goodbye as we needed. I hope you never need to use them, but if you do, they will be there for you.

This staff is truly angels sent to Earth. We recently had to put down our sweet baby cat Leia because of kidney failure. While it was heart breaking this staff did as much as possible to keep the experience from being traumatizing and harder than it needed to be. I appreciate their honesty and how straight forward they were about how serious her condition was. After her passing they took care of all of her cremation preparations and sent us the most beautiful card. They were so compassionate when dealing with this ordeal. I cannot speak highly enough of this incredibly clean faculty and recommend it for anyone who unfortunately has to bring their animal in for something serious. Our dog had a drainage problem. Fluid was gathering under his skin. The female vet had no idea and ran a few tests. They later did a biopsy and culture both. He had 3 incursions about 2 1/2 to 3 inches long. (Which I see no reason to have to take that much tissue except for personal research). $3,000 and 2 months later he passed away without ever knowing why.

I took my 6 month old kitten in with a 105.6 temperature and Dr. Jones ran bloodwork to see what was going on. Before she went over the results her suggestion was to put her down based on results because she may have early stages of FIV or leukemia. She had already tested negative for these when spayed. As she was going over the results with me she kept telling me how high all the readings were but they were all in normal range except a few which only indicated she was more than likely dehydrated from being sick. When I told her they were all still in normal range and she kept interrupting me and even asked if I was a vet to understand the results and I told her no but I’ve read bloodwork results before and it’s blocked out in low/normal/high for anyone to understand. To sum up I did not put thecat down. Got a shot of antibiotics the following Monday and is doing great a month later. Tested again and was negative. She was just sick. Had I listened to her my kitten would have been put down for no reason other than needing antibiotics. Dr. Jones is a joke!

I called after my baby got injured and the first thing the receptionist said to me was β€œplease hold” I told her it was an emergency and she was rude to me and did nothing at all to help me calm down. After explaining the situation twice to her she told me to come in. So I rushed there. When I arrived she refused service and told me that they only treat cats and dogs. My ferret was crushed by the couch and having trouble breathing. I was in tears she didn’t even try to console me. Eventually she grabbed some staff members and they gave me numbers to other clinics I explained that they were the only clinic open but they still refused to even give her a quick examination . I am extremely disappointed in their service. I WOULD NEVER TRUST MY DOG OR CAT IN THE HANDS OF A DOCTOR WHO IS NOT CONFIDENT IN THEMSELVES OR WOULD REFUSE A PATIENT!

They took upon themselves to evaluate again for $105.00 without telling me what they were doing. Mind you I had just left my veterinarian dr Russell at Whitesburg Animal Hospital who said she was stable just needed to be observed and given pain meds and watched through the night. Then I call to check on her and they leave me on hold for 12 minutes. I understand they are busy but just say I’ll call you back later for an update. Dr Russell at Whitesburg Anumal Hospital sent me there and never called to tell them what was going on with the situation with Tootsie. The Vet kept saying your baby needs this and that and trying to push things on me that was not told by my veterinarian to do. They will shame you into spending more money! The first estimate was for $800 and I couldn’t do it . I had just spent & 3,000 on veterinary bill. So I talked to the nurse to reduce the cost and it was still $400 for one night. They will milk you and play on your emotions so be careful here.
