Midtown MMA is a great spot to train. I was only in town for a few days and after one night training bjj here, I was really contemplating extending my stay in Houston. Chris has created an extremely welcoming atmosphere where everyone is friendly and respectful. The class was taught with step by step details so that beginners could learn the technique but also more experienced belts could fine tune their techniques as well. I highly recommend this gym for anyone new to Houston looking for a home or even if you are just visiting. Thanks again and hopefully I will be back soon.

Where do I begin .... this school is amazing. I had to leave because I moved from the area, but if you are in Midtown and want an awesome place to train, this is it. Professor Chris is a great instructor and he’s very patient (he had to be with me haha). When you train there it’s more than just going to class and leaving. You are a part of a team, a family. As a female I wanted to also be able to train with other ladies and I wasn’t disappointed. I made some life long friends and I’m so grateful for having been a part of this family.

This was my first time trying out MMA. Everyone is so friendly here and it was overall such a great experience. I wasnt pressured to do anything if I wasnt feeling good or was winded. They care about your safety. The gym is very clean and overall I think I found my gym.Chris showed me around and was very very educated about what he does and the hospitality was amazing.

I had messaged them about training with them while visiting Houston from Miami. As soon as I got there I felt welcomed by everyone and was really humbled by their hospitality. The gym is state of the art and very well kept and most importantly, the team is very skilled. The classes are long enough to learn a few techniques and roll a lot of times. Would definitely be back

Fantastic gym. I felt welcomed and comfortable from the moment i walked in. Everyone was respectful and helpful. Coach Chris is an excellent instructor who gives practical tips that make the moves useful right away. Also the perfect blend of a laid back atmosphere and a traditional martial arts atmosphere. I couldnt recommend it more.

I’ve been attending Midtown MMA for several months and I’m so glad to be a part of Muay Thai training program that’s rigorous, intense, and inclusive, regardless of your experience level. I appreciate the strong emphasis on technique and form. In addition, the atmosphere makes for an ideal learning environment - work hard and still have fun! The coaches, as well as the seasoned members, are very motivating and ALWAYS willing to help. Since Coach Martinez has started coaching more of the Muay Thai classes, my form and skills have only gotten better, which encourage me to keep coming. Oh, and the boxing classes are Fridays are amazing! I hope to be a part of Midtown MMA family for years to come!

This is my first time to Muay Thai, or any martial arts, and have been training here for just over a month. The gym and team are incredible. I felt welcomed from the very first class. I was initially nervous to start but everyone at the gym made me feel at ease. Even as a beginner, my fellow team members are alway gracious and more than happy to help with my technique and skill level. What impressed me was the professionalism and focus on technique and fundamentals. What keeps me going is Coach Chris and my fellow team mates, with the constant encouragement, pushing me to set and exceed goals, and of course a lot of laughter and always having fun!

Had a blast taking Professor Chriss class today. Called to see if I could stop in to train Jiu Jitsu while in town from Boulder. The gym has a welcoming chill vibe unlike the warm up, my abs are still hurting! 💪😂 This gym will teach you thorough refined technique in relaxed setting while making sure you are getting a work out in too! You will love this gym whether you are someone just starting out or looking to compete. Thank you Midtown MMA and Professor Chris🤙

Coach Chris very generously allowed us to attend sessions for kids and adults. The gym is easy commute from downtown, museum district and medical center. It is very well kept, very organized and clean. Coach Chris, his training partners and students are very humble and truly want to share and learn from each other in the true spirit of BJJ and MMA. An advice to those who enter this gym - Leave your ego at the door.Happy rolling.

For the past year Ive been training Muay Thai at Midtown MMA. I have nothing but positive things to say about this gym and encourage anyone whos interested in training to swing by to test it out. All of the coaches are great teachers, very patient, and support you in reaching your individual goals, whether thats to get in shape (Ive lost 30 pounds!) or to fight competitively. Every student is made to feel welcome, and the whole gym really feels like a family. There are no big egos here -- everyone is friendly and works together to improve as a team. Definitely check this gym out if youre in the area.

Midtown MMA is amazing! I highly recommend it to everyone.Coach Chris Martinez is a great person and a fantastic instructor. He cares about all his students and is very nice and approachable. The guys and girls who train here are very welcoming and there is definitely a team mentality. New members and guests are always made to feel welcomed (as I did when I started). It is a great place to train for all experience levels (from elite competitor to no background at all in martial arts). A lot of the members compete in BJJ or Muay Thai (at a high level) and there are also a lot of students who are doctors, lawyers, engineers, researchers, and university students who do it just to learn the arts and to stay fit. Everyone loves it. The location is very convenient if you live/work in the med center, museum district, or midtown Houston. There is a great focus on technique and also on fitness and conditioning. One of Coach Martinezs top priorities is safety and taking care of your training partners. It is a very well-rounded gym where you can train Muay Thai, BJJ (both Gi and No Gi), Judo/Wrestling, and boxing if you choose to. Or you can just pick one of the disciplines and focus on that.I think this is the perfect MMA gym and its exactly what I was looking for in a gym when I was looking for one.Try it out! You wont be disappointed and you will keep coming back!

This is a great gym I would recommend to anybody. Chris is great at combining different levels of skills into one class without making it too difficult for the beginners but making it challenging to the advanced students. There are also additional specific advanced classes, proof is in how well the gym does in competition both in Muay Thai and jujitsu.

Great place to train, Coach Chris and the staff are awesome. The atmosphere is more like being at a family event, than in a gym. Everybody is out to help you get better at your techniques. I am currently not at the gym due to scheduling differences but when there I only trained in Muay Thai and was able to learn solid technique and amazing conditioning. Coach Chris was never to busy to help out a new person to martial arts as I was and with his coaching I was able to join the Advanced Muay Thai class in no time. As soon as my schedule opens back up I will be returning to Midtown MMA to continue my training. I live in Humble and will only train at Midtown MMA.

I went last night for a preview Jui Jitsu(sp) class. The young lady at the desk was so nice and welcoming and the class was INTENSE! I have never done any type of martial arts before but I felt safe. One of the students walked me through the warm ups and I felt welcomed. No one pointed and laughed at the newbie and Stephanie Trevino was very helpful as I was learning a pretty cool move. I am going back tonight for the Muay Thai class and I am so pumped. I havent been able to stop talking about it to any and everyone that will listen. Thank you to Professor Chris for creating a welcoming atmosphere that is safe and fun!

Joining BJJ is hands down the best self- improvement decision I have made in the last 5 years. If you can roll therapy, hardcore workout, and socializing with positive people into one, it would be this gym. Coach Martinez and Coach Farias and Prof. Joel are amazing, each in his own way. The upper belts are also extremely helpful and do not act like know-it-alls and are always eager to help and share info. Very happy to be part of this BJJ community, and wish I could have known about this years ago.

My son has been taking Brazilian jiu-jitsu here for more than a year and thoroughly enjoys it. Coach Chris runs a great MMA studio specializing in both Brazilian jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai kickboxing. Coach Chris and Coach Zack make you feel like you are part of the family and my sons fellow classmates are very positive as well. The coaches provide a great balance between positivity and encouragement with discipline. I would definitely recommend Midtown MMA to others.

I came in trying to take a look at the place. The main guy Chris Martinez seemed alright at first but asked me to sign some paper and wanted to photocopy my drivers license. I told him I was not comfortable with that and he went off on how he does not feel safe having someone like me around kids.So I left his basement gym out the only entrance and exit the place has and saw the number code you need to input just for the bathrooms, which I promptly forgot when I went back to verify. 13** something. I just tried a bunch of times and the alarm starting blaring. So apparently Im the danger to this place, and not the other way around. Interesting projection I just experienced. Never going back and never recommending to anyone.

I cannot say enough good things about Midtown MMA. I started training BJJ here a couple of years ago, and at the time, I knew almost nothing about the sport. Of course that changed quickly through Coach Chriss detailed instruction and the help of my teammates. In a short time, I went from knowing nothing to competing in tournaments and taking home medals. Not to mention, I am in better shape, my confidence levels have increased, my mind is sharper, and I have made a great bunch of friends through training.I also joined the Muay Thai program earlier this year, and I am having a great time learning that as well. Again, I knew nothing about this sport at the start, but my skills are progressing quickly. My strength, stamina, balance, and flexibility have improved more than I thought was possible, and it is a great stress reliever after a hard day at work.Overall, the atmosphere and camaraderie at Midtown MMA are hard to match. Our team is a great group from all walks of life. Some are training for the cage, some for BJJ tournaments, and others just for the health, fitness, and fun that come along with it. The facility is in a great location, and it has everything you need to accomplish your goals. Whether you are a beginner or have been training for years, I highly recommend joining the school and our team. It was one of the best decisions that I have ever made.

We found Midtown MMA quite by chance this past summer. My son was cycling through summer camps and I thought it would be worth trying the day camp hosted by Midtown MMA and give my son some exposure to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (he calls it Jitsu). My son ended up finishing the summer here and we joined the gym for two lessons each week and regular week end demonstration events. Were glad we did.My son was lacking some self-confidence when we first arrived and had little interest in fitness. Within a week, he was doing push-ups in the bath tub each morning. I can see the changes in his character. He was looking forward to each day at the camp and now looks forward to each of the two lessons he takes each week. Its not a matter of peeling him off the sofa....my son is SO enthusiastic to go. My wife and I are also enthusiastic about his participation. My son looks up to Coach Chris as a leader. The other gym staff are properly attentive to him. My son has taken up friendships with the other children training at the gym. There is a nice community spirit at the gym. The gym is clean. I am proud of my sons accomplishments and feel that he may not have been as successful at a gym other than Midtown MMA.

I trained a few weeks with Mid-town, while I was working downtown, since my own gym was too far of a drive to make in time. While there I was able to train with 3 different style of, Jiu- jitsu, Muay Thai, and had a Judo teacher. This was a great experience for me working, with a different gym under their program. Any serious martial artist in the area I recommend you to stop in. Anyone interested in checking out martial arts that are in the area, this would be a good place for you to start. It will provide you a feel for all areas to allow you to work from, and multiple, styles to review at same time.

I have been training here over a year and love it. I work in the medical center and its super convenient being so close and having later hours. Ive lost a lot of weight and just overall feel in better shape. The school is certainly my home away from home. We have a group of excellent training partners and act like one big family. I mostly train the brazillian jiujitsu and judo classes and have found the instruction to be top notch. Chris is a natural teacher who really cares about his students. He defininately works with you to get what you want to get out of the program. There are people here who want to compete in bjj tournaments, some want to fight in the cage, some want to learn to defend themselves, and some just want to be in shape. Chris artfully blends all these aspects together during his instruction and there is something for everyone. He is also they type of instructor that can walk the walk. He has a ton of insight into what techniques actually work vs. fancy ones that fail to produce results. Chris sets an example as a fierce competitior through technique rather than brute force. As a result of this type of instruction, my teammates push me hard without being overly competitive or wild. Ive always felt very safe regardless of who I was rolling with as everybody looks out for one another. The affiliation with Team Tooke means we have opportunities for seminars and training with a wide variety of Houstons best jiujitsu practitionors. Cant say enough about how great this school is!
