Made reservations a few days before arriving in Houston. We come to Dollar’s lot and was informed there were no cars available. That myself and the other 9 people had to just sit and wait until a car was turned in, and then cleaned up and washed. Maybe one of the other rental car lots have some available

Waited in line for over an hour at the McCarran location. Was lied to. I told the agent I already paid through Priceline and had reservation. The agent said he could get a better deal. It appeared to be better. It was an upgrade for a total of $90 for the week. When the dust settled I paid more for the upgrade than the actual rental. My rental went from $500 to $1090. Good luck if you decide to use this company.

I was really nervous after seeing the low ratings. I have rented cars all over and the 3 people I dealt with were top of the line. Shuttle bus driver, lady that checked us in and lady that showed us to our car. Seriously, top notch!

I’m going to say the experience was just ok. Im used to Enterprise where it’s a little more personable but it was ok. The deal was phenomenal until all the hidden fees hit. I extended my trip by a day and was told I would be charged an additional $500 for one day if I kept the car. No thanks!

I prepaid for a vehicle online. When I arrived in Chicago I waited in line for 45 minutes at the counter. There were 3 agents and 1 was on his phone texting 80% of the time. I finally got to the counter and was told that my car was not ready and that it would be at least another 1 1/2 before its ready! What? Thats why I prepaid and expected to be on my way. She the said For an additional $20,00 per day I could get a larger vehicle because they are ready to go How convenient! I had to be some place so I felt I had to pay the extra money or be held hostage. I took the vehicle and my credit card was charged $187 plus the $387 for the original charge. I feel like Dollar did the old bait and switch routine and then charged me more than what they should have. I called customer service and the agent I spoke with said she could only offer me a $50.00 credit on my next rental, really? I am waiting on a call from a supervisor so we will see how that goes. This review is for Chicago OHare location not the Houston branch.

DO NOT USE THIS RENTAL CAR COMPANY!!! Priceline took $800 to reserve our car for a family vacation on the 4th of July. Reservation was made weeks in advance. THEY DID NOT HAVE A CAR! They have ruined our travel plans and vacation. THEY DID NOT EVEN APOLOGIZE FOR THEIR INCOMPETENCE. Stay away.

Waited over an hour and half for my rental. No other customers around and a lot full of vehicles. I realized I left my jacket in the back of seat of my rental, as the shuttle drove away. I waited for the next shuttle for over 30 minutes, before giving up and going to my gate. I’ve been calling this location 5 times a day with no answer. I’ve filled out all lost and found claims and called the corporate office. Customer Service at Dollar/Hertz is nonexistent. I will not continue to use Dollar/Hertz. Very inconvenient, i reserved my vehicle 48 hrs in advance prepaid in full for it and when i arrived they told me they didnt have anything available although they did have a 7 seater sitting on the lot available she wanted me to pay extra. If i already prepaid and reserved she should have been trying to accomodate me and my needs not charge me more. I had to wait and she couldnt give me a for sure wait time. I had a long trip ahead of me and this put me behind schedule. Customer service poor quality but thats the houstonian way! Welcome to Texas😳

Standing in line on a Sunday and there’s only one person helping people. This is so frustrating. They need to hire more agents. Also, was not told that if you are a local you can’t use a debit card. Major issue with that too.

I wish I had read the reviews before I rented. They truly deserve zero (0) ratings. I rented for 1 day at 250. a day and was changed 450.00 for that one day with hidden charges. Then THEY HIT MY BANK ACCOUNT FOR OVER $1400.00 DOLLARS, saying that I hadnt returned the car for four days. I rented from Las Vegas to Houston on 03/17/2021 and drove like hell to get the van returned to them on 03/18/2021. The Hobby location WILL NOT ANSWER THE PHONE and CORPORATE told me that the Hobby location had 5 to 7 business days to respond to theiemail inquiry THEY sent to their satellite location. Let anyone at my company wait 7 business days to respond to upper management.....I cant believe I have been so taken advantage of; with no recourse from their corporate office. I will never use dollar again and will tell anyone who listens, to avoid them at all cost.

If I could a zero Star I would. lets start by saying one you get off the plane to curbside bus Joke. once you get there the line is super long hour and half wait. i did everything online paid for it. no big deal ha right. You must have a credit card no bank cards or they will run a credit check soft credit check lady at the counter like thats your problem. i did everything online my Gf had to do it under her name and paid 3x what i paid for online. then you must buy there auto damages and Tolls card.. They are TERRIBLE.I paid for my rental online in full 4 weeks ahead of time and was told that there would just be a $200 deposit. When I arrive to pick up my vehicle they told me that they were $324 that needed to be paid for my rental, after I had already paid 320 online this is for a small Chevy spark for one person I asked the lady to print me out a list of the charges and notice that they were charging me for a bunch of unnecessary stuff. I asked her to remove all of the charges I only had the vehicleFor five days and instead they charge me for seven which is 25 per day on two charges, Which resulted in an extra hundred dollars for no reason. I Ultimately walked out paying $424 with 200 that being the deposit. I will never book with them again and I recommend you guys use someone else

I had a reservation and an authorization was made to my credit card. Unfortunately when I got to the airport (on time), the car rental agency was SHUT DOWN, leaving me with no transportation. The next day I called to find out what happened and to get my rental, but they had NO CARS! Stay away from Dollar Rent A Car.

Dollar in Las Vegas is great to do business with, but Houston is a different story. They have no cars on the lot, but will always try to give you a minivan, even though you reserve something else. Being an express member means nothing in Houston, so dont waste your time, and get in line. We were told to wait outside to see if they could find us a car, even though we had reservations a month in advance. Finally got a car after an hour wait.

Scheduled a rental car 3 weeks before arrival at Houston Hobby Airport. Upon arrival, we were told there were no cars, trucks, vans, nothing. No explanation, no sympathy, no phone call before hand to let me know -- nothing. Im very disappointed that one can make a reservation only to be told they have no vehicles. But not only that, they didnt call ahead of time to even let me know. This was my first and last experience with Dollar. Very unimpressed. Ended up contacting National Rental for a car and was super pleased with the last minute service to provide a car. Beware when reserving with Dollar as a reservation means absolutely nothing.

Was disappointed that the rental agency was off site. They didn’t have their own transport service, it was shared but Dollar was not easily seen on it so discovered it after waiting an hour then having to stop another transport to ask what was going on. Paid online up front but had to give a debit card at time of pick up. Was charged three times the amount originally paid then after the refund was issued was again charged double what was already paid up front. I will never use them again and would not recommend.

Upon arrival to Houston i get off the plane to get a voicemail stating that the close at 8 even tho my car rental was for 830. They waited till the day of my trip while im in the air to call and ask me if i could come a little earlier. Worst rental experience ever. Booked a mid size suv and the tried to give me a compact. Apparently the same happened to five others in front of me. Had to settle for a vw jetta or Id be spending the entire day there. Also, I brought the car back a day early and they waited to check it in until if be charged for the extra day. Id avoid this company like the plague.

In January I rented car and they overcharged me on tolls because they didn’t give me a toll pass & on Valentine’s Day they overcharged me, and charged me for a whole week that I didn’t have and could prove I was not in. I left early because of the bad snow storm. They are refusing to give me my money back and have overcharged me $1,000.00, their cars are not reliable. The car they rented me in the cold had no heat. They do not service or maintain their cars and their customer service is horrible.

The roads to your houston hobby location are flooded as of 9/22/20. Your phone service hangs up instead of connecting to a human representative. My mother is panicing because she will miss her flight because you have no way to get in contact with a human in a reasonable amount of time to deal with this. While this probably goes to a bot well before being seen and dealtwith this is creating a great deal of stress, worry, and will possibly force late fees onto us due to the tropical storm and flash floods in houston. My mother has been on hold for over an hour to try and talk to a human with their roadside assistance. The social media team is unable to get in contact or discuss anything with you if you are doing this for a family member. There is nothing I can find on their website in order to figure out what we can do. At this point I believe that Dollar Car Rental has completely failed in its ability to let you get in contact with them in a meaningful way. This is unacceptable. At this point we are most likely going to have to extend the rental, reschedule her flight, and scramble for a hotel reservation. All because we are unable to get in contact with the people at the location or any location in Houston to find out if we can safely drive the rental there after having circled the hobby location to not be able to find a route that was not flooded to their rental area. We will never use these services again seeing as the automated systems in place are not working during a Tropical Storm and Flash Flood warning and their attempts to streamline and probably reduce costs for their customer services is going to cost us time, money, and stress in order to fix.

DO NOT rent from this company. I experienced a bait and switch while renting a car from this agency. The cashier had me sign a document, telling me that I was signing the rental agreement. Instead, I was agreeing to pay an additional $34 per day for their car insurance; I had already purchased car insurance online through Economy Bookings when I made the reservation and did not need additional insurance. The amount was identical to what I agreed to pay online, so I didnt second guess what I was signing. After all, I had already verbally declined their extra insurance. (A lesson for me in reading the fine print!) Later, when my credit card was charged twice what I agreed to pay, the company would not refund me. They refused to recognize that I was lied to and that the actions of their worker was unethical. I will NEVER rent from Dollar Car Rental or Hertz again. I am not normally one to put bad reviews online, but this was unacceptable, and I do not want other people to experience the same thing that I did.

Three words describes this company: shady business practices. I rented a car and drove it in Texas. They allow you to use their easy tag in the car, but they charge you $15 extra on top of each toll charge. I went through six tolls and was charged $100 for them. Do not rent from this company! They hide things in their contracts to steal your money.

I signed up to be an express member prior to making the reservation online. Everyone was really nice at the Houston Hobby location. The representative at the counter even asked if I needed to get a toll pass. I definitely needed a toll pass in Houston and would have had a difficult time getting around without it. Thank goodness she mentioned it. The transaction was very fast and the price was economical. It was a short shuttle ride to pick up the car. The car was clean and ran well. The return was very efficient as well. It was a pleasant first experience. I’d highly recommend Dollar and would rent from them again.

I rented a car this past week and authorized a payment for $234.00. After I returned the car my credit card was charged $401.00 instead of the amount I authorized. I only had the car from Monday to Wednesday. I called Dollar rental and they stated that they will correct my charge but never did. They told me that my daily rate went from $47 to $93 for no reason. I will never rent anything else from Dollar. I have rented cars from Enterprise for 20 or more years and has never experienced anything like this.

Customer service on intake at Hobby Airport was awesome, although he put an extra $200 hold on my card. However when I turned it back in the charged me $100 for TWO cat hairs because they had to clean them up. Seriously, they had to clean them up already, scam. My cat NEVER left her carrier, so they were incidental hairs from my carrier. They wouldnt let me pick them out, just charged me. SCAM for people who travel with pets. They never released the hold on my card. I will not rent with them again, and I will tell everyone else the same. Disgusting.

Very good service. Nice selection of cars.One thing idnever experienced before was that they drive you to the terminal in the car you just returned. It seems like a small thing, but it means you dont have to unload the car, drag your stuff on to the shuttle. Small but nice feature.

Not sure where to begin! Rented a Premium SUV (T6) for a long road trip from Dollar. We booked this type of vehicle more than 3 weeks before our trip. We went to pick up our rental at 8:00 pm the day before we were leaving for our vacation and were told they didnt have that in stock. The lady at the counter was super sweet and kind but the manager Mr. Richie was of no help. NONE! The only thing he told me was I dont know why they allowed you that type of vehicle because we dont have it. I dont know either but I am guessing because yall have them but you rented it out. He offered us a minivan. It smelled like gasoline but I was told it was paint. Since it was so late there was little we could do but luckily we went to Enterprise across the street. They didnt have anything in stock but they found us one. We left the minivan at Dollar and got us a Premium SUV from Enterprise that could accommodate all the passengers and our luggage. They also matched the price we were quoted at Dollar. The best thing about this experience was I didnt have to spend my money at Dollar. I have worked in customer service for several years but the lack of customer service the manager provided was horrible and the I dont really care attitude was worse.

Never tried it before (always worked with Avis or small local rentals), whichever was cheaper).- Cost: ended up being a lot more expensive than expected (and Im fully aware that the final bill is higher than the quote).- Staff: all 4 people I talked to (counter, parking lot, gate) was fed up and very, very rude.- Car: not that clean and started smelling after the orange scent was gone on the second day.Never again. Absolutely horrible! After standing in line for 40 mins, I then had to wait an hour + to get a car. And I wasn’t alone during this ridiculous experience! There were at least 20 people waiting outside in the heat with me. I won’t even guess about how long I waited for a shuttle at Hobby! Never again! I originally had a reservation at Alamo but was surprised with a $300 deposit I was not prepared for when I tried to pick up my car. So I had to do some last minute research and found a good deal with Dollar. Deposit was only $35 and I got a great car. I also accidentally locked my keys in the trunk and I called Dollar they sent out roadside assistance for free to help me out. It was really fast. Then I wasnt able to return the car at the time I was supposed to so I called to extend my time and was pleased to find out that they give you a grace period of 20 hours so that was awesome too. I was very pleased with my experience and will use Dollar again

I had a much better experience here than some other car rental companies. I was able to turn the car in at another location for a very low additional fee. But, you should make sure in advance about this. I did have to drive past a few Dollar stores because they werent in the same ownership group.

My vehicle was reserved for Feb 21 - 23, 2020. My issue with this place is that I did not get the vehicle I reserved. I reserved a full-size SUV (Nissan Armada) online at 46 dollars per day plus 39.99 per day for loss damage. The vehicle I received was Premium SUV (Chevy Suburban) at 114 per day. The rate totals were a little off on the paperwork; the amounts times two days did not add up. I was not wearing my eyeglasses at the time of picking up the vehicle but when I returned the vehicle I spoke with one of the attendants about my concerns and he tells me that the amounts will be adjusted. Well I am just waiting for that to happen. If you rent from here be sure to get a clear understanding of what you are being charged for and print out the online reservation that you make.

I paid for a ride all the way to hobby airport to pick up a rental car from this dollar location. I put in a 8am reservation time for pick up. I booked it through Orbitz. When I got to the counter this morning to pick up my rental .The lady looked at the time from the previous night. 10pm that I booked with Orbitz and she said that I have to wait until 10pm tonight to pick it up. I was prepared to pay the extra deposit from my bank card. The lady said that on that site that it states it. I read Dave Ramsey stating on how easy it is to rent a car using your debit card. THE ONLY 24 hour wait that it speaks on is if YOU ARE GETTING A CONVERTIBLE OR A LUXURY car but I wasnt renting any in that category. I normally rent from Enterprise, this was my first experience with Dollar rental and it wasnt a good one at all. I had to pay gas to get back to the Northside. I lost money to pay for transportation there and back. I guess that next time I will stick with a local rental from Enterprise. Dave Ramsey needs to take his page down cause it wasnt made easy, ( debit card friendly) I will never be a customer again for dollar rental. I was like why would I pay for a full day to pick it up at 10pm.? Smh

Ive worked with other car rental companies that start out good and then turn to crap. Im not talking about looking for any any ADVANTAGE ......... But........ Dollar always delivers on what they promise, they have always been there if I have any complaints or issues, they handle it immediately. Their pricing always comes not the lowest, but far from the highest which is great. Good clean new cars. No mechanical problems. If you want to get a car at a really good rate. Go with Dollar they keep getting better and better and it seems they are really focusing on their clients and customer satisfaction. Everything turned out great. Was sort of skeptical at first due to the reviews. Getting my car and returning it was simple and fast. Had great service. I also received a great deal on my rental. I just wish that responsible drivers (making good grades in school, have previous good driving record without any wrecks, etc) under 25 should not be charged so much to rent a car. Its already hard enough for college students to come up with money.

Quick and easy. The Call Center is a little impatient but the location was wonderful. I got there around 9pm, the staff was visibly tired (with good reason) but still smiled and explained the process to me (first time car renter here). I was in and out in 20min. Credit card charged $150+ because vehicle was checked in days later after returned. Refund took almost 2 weeks. Attendants seemed not to be concerned about the issue and told to take it up with customer service. Noticed on receipt 600 + miles added to odometer at take out,told human error. Really awful experience. Waited for shuttle for extremely long time, say enterprise, hertz, Alamo shuttle pass by 3-4 times yet no dollar shuttle. Tried to call them, the number just takes you to automated reservation options. Overall would not recommend them because I ended having to pay for an Uber

The car was good, the service was fast, BUT they charged me $183.85 for ONE day! I returned a car with full tank, but they still charged me $51.78 for fuel purchase, requested minimal package insurance and they charged $76.77!!!!! So if you want to pay such a price for one day of car rental, welcome to Dollar! But I will not anymore!

I made a reservation through Expedia. I told the employee (who identified himself as the manager) that my rental was through Expedia. He asked how much the total was, I told him Exactly what was stated in my email from Expedia when I reserved the car. The employee then stated was “trying to get me a better deal”. He told me the new total, which sounded great. What he failed to mention was that he changed my reservation from unlimited mileage to a cost per mile. This caused my ending total to be over double what I had booked online. He clearly did not know how to work the computer system and thus I was put into a contract which I did not know I had agreed to. Or maybe he did know exactly what he was doing and pulled a fast one on me. I came to Dollar under the impression I would get what I booked on Expedia. Contacting customer service did no good. I provided evidence of my booking online and they told me too bad. I feel cheated and will be sure to take my business elsewhere.

Its ok, we had to go through 3 cars to get to ours. 1st car we took was on a maintenance call, 2nd car it needed an oil change, 3rd car was perfect, though it cost more but we were okay.

They have made significant improvements in customer service at this location. I rent from this location often and i appreciate the positive changes I have seen over the last months since new management took over. My latest trip through the manager personally took me to the airport when he saw I was anxious about missing a flight and the shuttle was not coming right away. Its little things like this that I truly appreciate.

I made my reservation thru Orbitz and ended up picking up on Christmas Eve around 6pm, arguably one of the busiest times of the year for the travel industry.The shuttle was waiting for me at Hobby and had me to the rental spot within 5 minutes or so. There were a few people in front of me but the line went quick. I probably waited 5 minutes or less. I spent a total of two minutes or less at the actual counter. Im sure that having my reservation already in place helped with that.When I drove the car into the drop off lane on my return, I spent again less than 5 minutes waiting for a representative and then spend two minutes or less with the inspection of the car and for them to check the fuel level. I was given my receipt and hopped right back on the waiting shuttle and went back to Hobby.This was a top notch experience and Id happily use Dollar again if the need arises.

Absolutely the worst car rental company I have ever witnessed, and is borderline fraudulent with the way they operate. Staff are extremely unprofessional. Had one employee insult me for having a physical hearing deficit and tell me “you aren’t a good listener” when I didn’t hear what he asked me when returning my vehicle at hobby airports Dollar location. Basically this rental company ruined our trip completely by the time it took to pick up a car, and the extra $200 in fees added during rental. Also to mention the extra $15 per toll charged as an “administrative fee”. Also you will not get the car you reserve, as you see it says on your voucher or equivalent. Well that equivalent they put you in certainly isn’t the standard you paid for and reserved. I highly do not recommend this company, and wish I had known what kind of absolute joke of a business this was. Use enterprise because I promise you the cheaper rates of this company arent reliable.

So I recently rented a vehicle for our vacation, went in and transaction was easy, opted to get LDW insurance and paid extra, while driving we saw toll roads and inside car on left top winshield was a EZ- TOLL sticker giving us the impression if you hit a toll it would be added to bill. Returned car clean gassed up good to go. Well 2 wks later I received a bill in my mail box for $12 tolls. Ok Ill pay that and $90 administrative fees, thats insane and was not disclosed. I am happy to pay tolls but adding on $90 more in fees thats not good business!

The worst rental car and service i ever experienced. First time using Dollar Rental and it will definitely be my last. Shouldve stuck with my gut feeling!! The staff was rude and they charged me almost $400 for a compact car that was rented for 4 days. Thanks Dollar Rental for your horrible business! Thought Ill jump out the box renting with Dollar, but Ill stay in my box with Enterprise. 😤✌

I wish I read the reviews before renting from them. They are the biggest scam artist! They trick you into signing an agreement to pay $33.99 a day for insurance and other unnecessary things. They ended up charging my account double the amount that I agreed to on Priceline. Then it’s to late when you notice because you already signed the agreement!

Booking at airport for cars they dont have And dont know when or if they will get them in. When we got to the lot there was a stack of people ahead of us and not a car in the lot. Cancelled and walked over to Enterprise. Exponentially Better Service and a cheaper price as a perc.

Was allowed to reserve a car online with a debit card but when I got to the store to pick up said car I was not allowed to because you’re unable to rent a car thru them with a debit card unless you had a flight into the city. My husbands father passed away and all we want to do is get to the funeral and now we may miss it because this company has a website that isn’t clear on the terms. We were also told on arriving to pick up the car the only way that you can use a debit card to rent a car is if you flew in.

I have been using Dollar at Hobby Airport in Houston every month for four years. I chose them based on price and became an express member. At times I got so frustrated I nearly quit them. Many times they had no cars and a dozen or so customers were standing around in various states of anger. There seemed to be no management on site and they ran far too few buses. Over the past year, however, they have greatly stepped up the service and seem to have acquired a far more sizeable fleet. Someone is obviously managing the place. I plan to keep using them as they provide a full size premium car a prices far below the competition. I would recommend that anyone who plans to try them should go online and register as an Express Member. It makes a big difference.

I always rent from Dollar, good cars and good prices. Note Dollar Return at Houston Hobby Airport is off site, just east to HOU off Airport Blvd.It is next to Hilton Garden Inn, Enterprise Rent car and Hertz. Do not drive to the Airport!
