This was our first time deep sea fishing and we loved it! The captain and crew was so helpful, and educated. I loved how much they respected the ocean and fishes. We were able to catch 3 big fishes and they even allowed us to take some home, cleaning and cutting it at the spot! There was another boat that was following us, but was unable to catch anything. I would highly recommend this tour! Warning: if you get motion sickness easily, take meds before!

Everything was great, easy to book, good communication, nice charter. We booked for a full day shared charter, due to availability we were re-booked on a half day afternoon charter. Crew was great, but unfortunately we didnt catch anything.Be aware the ocean is pretty choppy, recommend medicating prior and be prepared for large waves.

I got a text message the day before my fishing trip asking me to call in about my reservation. They canceled my booking less than 24 hours before the trip. They told me I was the only person who booked the trip so they had to cancel. I asked if I could bring more people from my party to fill the reservation. They told me everything was already booked up....Mixed explanations aside. My fishing trip in Oahu did not happen. If youre spending money and time to travel to the area, book with a more reliable charter.

The captain was late for 45 minutes, left the port, we caught a wahoo for 45-55 pounds, but the assistant fisherman Breski could not get it out because was unprofessional. when we arrived at the port, we asked to give our half of the catch, but the fisherman Breski did not give us our share of the caught fish, and then said get out. they are rude and deceived us. Captain Ruben and first mate Shane on Ruckus really showed us a great time. On a day that was very choppy and not many boats were catching, those guys really kept us going and fighting to get to the fish. We ended up catching the biggest fish out of the marina that day. We caught two Mahi Mahi and we saw 2-3 other Mahi Mahi just miss biting the lure. I would recommend this fishing trip to anyone that enjoys a day on the water.

Let me start off by saying this one star does not reflect the crew I had in any way. They were both friendly, attentive, and knew what they were doing. The one star is due to the fact that I cant in good conscience recommend this company based on the owners actions. I reserved the Maggie Joe vessel back in February for an August fishing trip. This is their top of the line vessel. I am on my honeymoon and wanted to take my new wife deep sea fishing in all the comfort possible. The day before we were to head out I get a call from their office informing me the Maggie Joe was no longer available. I can understand this if there was some sort of mechanical issue, but unfortunately it was due to the owner wanting to keep it for his personal (possibly business?) use on another island where the fishing was better than near Waikiki. The owner did not keep his word. I chose the vessel I wanted, pre-paid, and was extremely excited to go out on the Maggie Joe. The person who called me tried to reassure me the Sea Hawk was captained by the same crew, and I should not be inconvenienced by it.Let me tell you, the Maggie Joe and the Sea Hawk are no where near the same vessel. I have been on a deep sea fishing trip before, and there is no way the Sea Hawk is worth $1000 for a full day. The boat was in poor repair and not well upkept. It is for those reasons I will not and cannot recommend this company. The owner needs to honor his commitments and keep his word.

Had a 3/4 day fishing charter today with Dallas-Captain and Shane-Deck Hand aboard Maggie Joe. We had an amazing time on the boat with these 2. They were very professional and made everyone of us feel like part of their family. We had 1 person with us who could not find his “Sea Legs” and did not feel well all morning, but they were very sympathetic and took good care of him as well. At the end of the day we strolled in with 2 nice Blue Marlins which made our trip that much better! I would recommend Maggie Joe Sport Fishing Charter and particularly request Dallas and Shane to anyone in the Honolulu area! Perfect service! Thank you again! Disappointing experience. I have been game fishing on several occasions and understand fish are not always guaranteed. Booked a 3/4 day private charter with family from Australia and no fish. Spent the whole time driving round with the same lures out back, no change whatsoever. We even asked to do some bottom fishing (just to get something on a rod) but were not granted our request. The deckhands were great but the captain was so uncreative, just happy to drive the boat around then head back empty handed without trying anything different (still got his money). Next time will be looking for creativity in a charter for this kind of money.

We went 80 miles on a 9 hour boat trip on the Seahawk. Captain Eric has a few decades of experience and it showed. He and the crew Jay and Clay did an awesome job. We searched for about 5 hours looking for signs and once or twice saw the tuna jumping after a bait ball but could not get over there in time to capitalize. Finally Captain Eric spotted a huge area with the sea boiling with giant tuna jumping out of the water making huge splashes. He spotted it from the bridge a long ways off using image stabilizing binoculars. We were able to get there in time and caught three yellow fin tunas weighing 110 lbs, 118 lbs, and 150 lbs. All five lines were hit simultaneously but only three got hooked. Pretty strong fish and it took a long time to boat them and get them cleaned and on ice. The crew really knew what they were doing. The waves and swells were up a bit which impacted the fishing and it was a long fairly rough ride back against the waves. Good time sitting on the bridge with the crew. Fishing is fishing there are no guarantees, but my day on the Seahawk with the crew and other guests was pretty awesome! I would definitely recommend the all day trip to get to the best fishing areas.

Family of 10, we were visiting Hawaii for the first time. We booked a full day private charter with MaggieJoe  because they could accommodate all 10 of us on one boat. Other charters we found could only take 6 people. Deep sea fishing was the #1 activity we all wanted to do together, as a family, on our trip.We booked and made a deposit 3 weeks before our charter, scheduled for Friday, Sept 8. On Wednesday, Sept 6, they called and said the boat may not be back from another charter by friday and offered to split us and go out on 2 boats. I declined, the purpose of the private charter on the larger boat was for our whole family to go together. He said he would call me back in an hour. He called back the next morning, the day before our charter and stated multiple reasons for having to cancel, including restroom issues. My personal opinion is that he got a better offer of a 15 person charter which is the max the boat could take, making him more money. I hope this was not the case.It has been 3 weeks, phone calls, and emails and i have still not received my deposit back.I do have to add though, our family did a shark cave dive together since our charter was cancelled and it was awesome.  We still would have rather done the deep sea fishing but at least we were able to dive together.

I chartered a boat for a full day private charter last August, my wife and I had a very nice time and caught a blue marlin and spearfish. When we returned I forgot to give my email address for the crew to send me a video they took, so later I emailed them to send it to me, as of today I have not received it nor will they contact me about it. I had given a friend of my the name and the fishing charter, he emailed them and they got right back to him and he asked if he could have the same crew and do a video for them too. They said they probably could and would have the crew contact him. 2 days later they contacted him so he asked about the video and cost etc. That was 6 weeks ago with no answer yet. There are many charter services in Honolulu and the fishing experience was very nice after they have your money all bets are off. Good luckIn the meantime my friend was able to get another charter in the area with what he wanted (in writing) for about the same price.

Excellent fishing on the Maggie Joe. We chartered the 53 boat on Feb 11th for a bachelor party. It was the best deep sea fishing of my life! We had 12 people in our group and we all had fun. The waters were rough that day but we caught 22 fish!!!! Mahi and 2 different types of tuna. The captain Mike and his first mate worked hard and knew exactly what they were doing. The first mate was really on top of re setting the lines. At one point we had 3 fish on at the same time. Every time we re cast we were catching fish. I cant stress how important it is to have a skilled crew and these guys knew what they were doing. They knew exactly where to fish and what to look for. We were out there for 8 hrs and I will go again on the same boat next time I am back in Oahu. I am sure we had luck on our side but these guys are the reel deal!!! Thanks Maggie Joe Fishing for making a great day!!! (To increase your odds make sure you do the whole 8 hr day and stay out there even if you get sick! Also check the fishermans moon calendar to plan your day with the best prediction,) For 12 people it cost us $1900 but that included tip. With just 6 its about $1000 for 8 hr day

We got to the ship at 5:45. The ship left the harbor at 6:10 they explained to us a little about what to do if you catch a fish. We were really excited thinking we would all get a chance to catch a fish. Then the crew went upstairs and talked with each other for three hours while the guests chatted with each other down stairs waiting. some people slept. Then we started heading in at 9:30 with no bites. I know its kind of the luck of the draw but i didnt know i was paying $340 for a three hour boat ride with a crew that isnt involved. The worst part is that they know not everyone is going to get a fish bite. they purposely oversell the boat. I felt like I got taken advantage of. :(

I booked the Maggie Joe as a wedding trip for my boys because it was the only boat on the island that could take more than 6 people. We spent $1,500 for the ten of us to go out and were disappointed, to say the least. This is a trolling fishing boat with one goal in mind - catch a big fish (marlin, in our case). Captain Mike trolled us around all day in search of his trophy with no apparent consideration for his guests on board. At one point everyone of us was napping - thats how involved this trip is. Im bummed we didnt catch a fish, but the real issue is how this was marketed as a fishing charter for a bunch of people when clearly, even on a great day, only a few people will even attempt to reel in a fish. Mike was gruff and short all day, clearly dissappointed no fish were biting but oblivious to the paying customers he was responsible for showing a good time (I suppose we did enjoy playing with the live bait on board). Another kicker was that he kept us out, obviously not enjoying ourselves, for an extra three hours without any thought to ask of we had to get back for a wedding rehearsal dinner. Bottom line is this is a terrible operation for anyone looking to have fun. Check their policies on what catch you get to keep and youll get an idea of their priorities. Catching fish cures all, but just know that this boat is a big game hunter suitable for small groups at best.

Ive made numerous attempts to work through the following complaint with the owner, however, Ive been politely pushed off long enough. Im submitting my grievances to the public to determine for themselves whether or not my kids and I were poorly treated. Beware of this deep sea charter service. The following is what I submitted to the owner as my complaint: I felt it necessary to address numerous complaints I had deep sea fishing with your charter service. I was charged over 600.00 for what I consider 90% of a miserable experience not including the amount of time I wasted that I will never gain back.First and foremost, Tyler was pleasant so my complaints surround Morgan (Captain) and the charter service.• Morgan snapped at my 10 year old son for losing the first fish that bit on the line early in the morning- for not reeling. He made sure my son knew he made a mistake.• Morgan snapped at me when I was trying to film my son while he sat on the chair. I never received any prior notice or preparation that I would have to help my son- I thought that was the crews responsibility.• The seat that straps in the fisherman was not prepped and ready for when a fish took the bait- this lack of preparation added to the entire problem.• Morgan used profanity when the fish was lost, as well as, ranted and raved complaining about the losing the fish for over 20 minutes straight and then continued to make references hours later- terrible attitude.• Morgan broke the cabinet drawer throwing a fit when the fish was lost.• The boat motor kept having problems throughout the excursion.• The A/C quit working around mid-day which made being in the cabin highly unpleasant.• The 3 minute explanation on what to do when a fish bites on the line was pathetic and uninformative.• The captain was consumed to catch big fish i.e. marlin and/or tuna. I quote, “You go big or you go home.” This attitude was exactly what I wanted to prevent from experiencing evidenced by the email I sent on 8-5-15.• The other party had an equally disappointing experience- I would be surprised if they haven’t written a negative review already.• The tip that was given to the captain and Tyler was out of the kindness of my sons hearts. My sons knew I was not inclined to give them anything.• The El Dorados we caught happened near the harbor. Efforts were never made the rest of the day as was represented to me via email.• My older son filmed the experience on his iPhone showing Morgan doing a terrible job with my son. I’m happy to provide the evidence so you can arrive at your own conclusions. As I’ve written this complaint, I’m reminded of how upset I was being stuck in a boat for hours with an individual that had a negative attitude. Where the hell was the customer service.I await your response. Otherwise rest assured, I will address my complaint with a different audience.

Had an absolute blast Dallas and Shane were wonderful. Not only were they extremely helpful when folks needed help landing a fish, they were very welcoming. There were 5 of us on an all day shared charter. We brought in 3 good sized yellow fin tuna and a fat skipjack tuna. At the end of the day they asked if we wanted anything and we decided to just split up the skipjack. It seemed a shame to cut into the yellow fins for just a couple ponds.Dallas butchered and divide the fish. He even did a to go pack. Just a wonderful experience.

My husband contacted Maggie Joe Sport Fishing requesting a half day excursion for six, including three children aged 11-14. He was very clear about the fact that our interest was in catching many fish, rather than one or two marlin. When they arrived at the boat before 6 am, they found that the captain had no bait, but two bait fish were caught before they left. TWO! And guess how many fish our party caught during the four hour trip...TWO! My son actually fell asleep out of boredom. For the prices they charge, they ought to be prepared. For the horrific experience we had, they ought to have refunded our money. I cant even give this operation TWO stars. I would give zero if this application allowed.

This was supposed to be a bonding trip for my Brother-in-law and myself and my Father, so we thought it would be a good idea to try something new. We chartered The Ruckus. My father and I suffer terrible anxiety, but were up for doing something out of our comfort zone and was looking forward to a great time with my Brother-in-law. This trip was uneven.First Id like to say that the fishing was pretty good. We caught a couple of large tuna, a Mahi-Mahi and some smaller fish. We saw a whale and even a submarine. Very cool. Danny (Im guessing was the shipmate to the captain) was excellent. He was all about hosting the guests and making sure they had a good time. He was very patient as he realized he was dealing with people who had never fished for the most part (My Brother in law being the exception). Danny is a guy who should have his own boat with a crew of 1 or 2 people to join him. If that would have been the case, this trip would have been perfect.Unfortunately that wasnt the case. I dont remember the name of the Captain but he had a large tattoo of a cross on his back that looked like a piece of Duct tape. This dude was an absolute prick. He talked down to everybody on the boat (Including his shipmate) and generally was damn rude to a bunch of people who were paying good money to learn a little bit about what he does for a living. Instead of enjoying and teaching us about Deep Sea Fishing (The way Danny was trying to do), he spent most of his time chastising us and making snide comments under his breathe.I am from Texas and we dont take that level of disrespect without putting a fist in somebodys mouth. He was such an a-hole, that I wanted desperately to turn the boat around so I could pull him out and fight him. However, we were on his boat, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean which doesnt lend confidence to getting home safely. So, I bit my tongue and fantasized about the beating I was going to deliver the minute we got off the boat. Nobody speaks to my father the way he did and certainly not to me without having to defend yourself. After a somewhat miserable 8ish hours we finally arrived on land and Heather was there to greet us. Danny and Heather went out of their way to disarm the situation and keep my Brother-in-law, myself and my father cool. When it came time to cut up some fish (That we caught) for us to take home, the Captain was a real dick about it. Saying he wasnt making any money off of fish that had already been filleted. I almost lost it, but managed to keep my cool.I look back on the experience now and my only regret is that I didnt confront the captain and humble him in front of everybody as he deserved. To the owner of Maggie Joe Sport Fishing...Danny and Heather Get it. Your Captain is a problem. I would not recommend anybody go out to sea with him as he will infuriate you and you will be stuck in a situation with no recourse.I give this a 3-star experience only because Danny was amazing and Heather did her absolute best to make everything right. If you can catch a boat with Danny...do it. Itll be a memorable experience that you wont forget. If Duct Tape Back Tattoo Captain is there, get your money back and dont feel bad about it, because its either getting your money back or going to jail for fighting him. Hawaii is too beautiful to spend in jail or wasting your time with jerk-offs. Thats why we take vacations...to get away from schmucks. I hope one day to meet your captain on my home turf.I would also like to commend the owner of Maggie Joe Sport Fishing for as soon as he found out we had a bad experience (doesnt seem like it was the first time with this captain) he called my Brother-in-Law to get the low down.I do think this is a respectful and genuine business owner who wants the best for his clients. I believe 2 of his employees feel the same way.A special Thank you to Danny for helping my father and I deal with this garbage and helping us calm our nerves as we were in a situation we were not all that comfortable with in the beginning.

Terrible, horrible, awful, EXPENSIVE mistake. We took our son for his 16th birthday on July 2nd, 2016. We got up at 4:45 am and meet the crew at the marina. We departed. Captain Tony of the Mazel Tov baited and threw 6 lines in the water and we were off. Not a single bite. Not a sighting of a single fish. We didnt even touch a rod or bait a rod. We sat on the boat for 2 hours out and 2 hours back. During the middle of the trip Captain Tony and his First Mate Kelly told us how they hadnt had a bite in weeks and really there has only been a couple of good days all year. Thanks for the info Captain. I paid $760 for this terrible mistake. That was for 2 adults, a 16 and 14 year old. Most expensive thing and worst thing we did on vacation. I am still physically sick over the price. Dont risk it. There are so many other fun things to do!
