Great tour service! Be patient during the high season it can get extremely busy. Definitely make reservations at the least a day in advance the earlier the better.
I recently signed up for this costly artisan tour of Daufuskie Island. As an artist and art teacher I was very much interested in meeting the Gullah people and learning about their rich history and crafts throughout their culture and lifetime. The directions of where to park for this initial ferry ride was not written anywhere and ended up having to pay $20 to park near the ramp of the ferry. Upon the arrival to the island, we were brought to the golf carts that we would be using for transport ourselves around the island. We were brought to a place where we could buy cookies, made by a white resident, brought to a wood structure where a white guy who makes pottery had a few bowls that were nothing other than ordinary and to a building where a white woman was making indigo tie dye clothing. As we drove down dusty unpaved roads which was blowing into my face, clothing and hair throughout the tour, we stopped at one church still standing and one residence which was once belonged to one native Gullah woman who was the island midwife during her time. We saw many lots of land for sale that wealthy whites were buying up to then turn this island into another rich white resort like Hilton Head. The current resort on the island we did not see, nor any of the beaches. We learned that there are no plans in place to preserve the natural wildlife that inhabits this island nor will there be any. Needless to say, my partner and I were extremely disappointed in this tour. It certainly wasnt what we expected. Dont waste your money here.
We had great experience with this company. First, they were able to add a last minute person to our party without difficulty. Second, the office called ahead of time to offer us a next day tour due to weather concerns (it was chilly for a June weather) but our family can’t change schedule so they pushed through. Third, we were scheduled for a van tour and Eddie was informative. I think I learned and appreciated the island more than if I just took the self guided golf cart tour. This island is for people that likes a slow, relaxed spot. It is not meant for people that needs excitement and action; you need to go to Hilton Head for that.
Had a wonderful time! The best part by far was the ride to and from the island. Trent made the experience more than just a boat ride. Highly recommend it and well be back ourselves!
We took the boat out to Daufuskie Island and toured around the island on a golf cart. Lots-O-Fun! I would suggest bringing a cooler😉 Be careful with the scrap irons from The Old Daufuskie Crab Company!
Boat ride over was fun, but it was the tour guide on the island who really made the experience. He was both knowledgeable and very pleasant. Definitely worth the price.
This sounded like it was going to be a great day trip, but turned out to be a big lie. When you arrive on the island you will see the Old Crab company restaurant which has the biggest hint in his name. The drinks taste as if they have dust, and the food is either undercooked or has hair in it. The place has no sanitation rating whatsoever. Most of the locations are marked private so there is hardly anything to see. The golf carts top out at a speed of 5 mph. The only enjoyable part of the whole trip was the beach. By the time the ferry arrived back everyone was rushing onto the ferry to leave. I do not recommend this to anyone. This is a scam more than anything.
Take the tour the bar and grill is good good food. The boat ride is the best part. Not really a whole lot to see.
This sounded nice on the magazine! Well lets just say they market this place really well.boat ride there wasnt bad, once we got there we got the golf cart,to find they are REALLY slow!!!! The map that was supplied does not make sense, cant find anything on the mostly private island.went over to the included restaurant and thought this would be good, well think again,it was disgusting! All the food tasted old,and prepared in a dirty kitchen Im sure based on what the dining room looked like.total waste of money!!!! It was very expensive for 7 people it was around 430.00 and not at all worth it.very disappointed,I will never get the 4 hours of my life I wasted on this island back.
Was a blast!
I went on tour a couple months ago. I am now receiving calls EVERYDAY from different resorts on Hilton head selling packages for future visits. They start out by saying you went in Daufuskie tour ..... they have sold my cell phone number too these companies. I tell them too stop calling. Especially since in live here Bluffton SC. Shame on tour company for giving them my cell number
Take the golf cart tour picking what you want to see
We had a blast over there !!! I even left my cell phone over there and they sent it back the next day and would not take any moneyThank again we will be back soon Doug
A must see!! We made a whole day of it
Cannot wait!
