I just love the architecture of the S. H. Kress & Co. building, which was the trading name of a chain of five and dime retail department stores in the United States, established by Samuel Henry Kress, which operated from 1896 to 1981. In the first half of the 20th century, there were Kress stores with ornamented architecture on Main Street in hundreds of cities and towns. (Source: Wikipedia)
I was a “Covid-19,” bride. Listen, if you can afford to go do a different venue - DO IT! Honestly, there is a lack of organization and compassion from the people running this venue. It takes FOREVER to get responses from the staff, and Covid-19 ruined everything for a LOT of people...and we would have taken a PARTIAL refund for everything we paid - Now we will seek legal action for ALL of it. So disappointing. PICK ANOTHER VENUE.
Im giving this place a generous 4 stars because the venue and catering prices were a good deal. Kay(decor) did a fabulous job with the centerpieces and table set up. It was so beautiful just amazing. Thank you Kay! It was beyond my expectations. The chef did a great job with the food(buffet style) considering how the tasting went.Visions did a wonderful job working with me in scheduling all my appointments and always responded promptly to emails and phone calls.Cons:Could use a renovation and new chairs. This isnt the cleanest venue and my mother in law dress caught fire due to a poorly placed burner as well as my cousin getting scolded by hot water during a food tray change. The bartender was not the friendliest or the most professional person in the world.Other than that I would recommend this venue and would use them again.
Thank you so much for all of your hard work during the wedding! You did an outstanding job!It was everything and more than I ever thought it could be. The set up was gorgeous, the service was excellent, food, cash bar went above and beyond what was expected. I cannot say enough about how pleased and impressed I am. We really appreciate it all! I will definitely be giving a very complimentary revues and recommend you! May God bless you and your business!
My daughter had her wedding here. It was beautiful and set up was nice and spacious. Balcony had nice beautiful views of downtown Greensboro. The people there were very nice helpful and got things done quickly!! I recommend this place for any and all get together you have planned. Indoor outdoor venue for all occasions!!!! Bar included.
Beautiful wedding venue. Has a great roof top view of downtown Greensboro. Havent seen all the other floors of the venue but I hear its pretty big and nice . Highly recommended. As a vendors perspective as long as you have access to use the elevators you will be fine
I just wanted to follow-up and let you know how pleased we were with your catering service. First off, Cindy was absolutely wonderful to work with. Our wedding planner even commented on how great your staff was to work with. The bartender was great..so nice and personable. The food was delicious and the table set ups were so pretty. Thank you for your part in making the wedding so special!
Beautiful venues..great to work with. Excellent pricing for what you get! Highly recommend for any event :-)
I just wanted to say thanks so much to Visions Catering for a wonderful job they did on my wedding. From the first email to day of everyone was great to work with. Thanks you so much..
Kress management would not refund our granddaughter any monies paid for her use of this venue. Her wedding is scheduled for May 1 but due to the National Qurantine in effect and uncertain days to come she was wanting to cancel for the safety of her guests. I am saying that Kress has a moral obligation to help. Even if only part of the monies were refunded...especially the catering portion as we are certain no food has been purchased at this point. Many of the guest are over 65 and many needing to fly. and the CDC is recommending that we all stay home and the 6 foot rule cannot be enforced. So Kress the moral road to take should be taken here. This would make for good publicity.Thank you.Wanda ThornburgJust a follow up from my post in April. Kress never refunded any of the paid in full amount to my Granddaughter. We thought for sure they would return at least some of it as the Quarantine is still affecting all of our lives. Am very disappointed in the management of Kress Terrace. But the the caterer was understanding and did.I would suggest to anyone to add in their contract to cover deadly virus that shuts down country and DO NOT pay in full ahead of due date as you may not ever see any of the money again if God forbid there is some sort of tragedy that occurs.Best of luck to all reading this.Wanda Thornburg
The location is cool. The accommodations and terrible treatment from staff, however, makes this location awful. Please be very wary of booking this venue for a wedding. I assume more casual events would be fine. One of the managers came drunk to my rehearsal, one manager promises to call/email and never does. They even had the audacity to lie about something to my face ON MY WEDDING DAY, in my wedding dress. Causing me more stress. It was dirty, and I did not even have a house manager during my wedding. They allowed random people to enter my wedding and those people are seen in my WEDDING VIDEO dancing. They could have totally stolen my cards or gifts.Affordable location for obvious reasons.
I was here for a wedding, April 2018. Our room was awesome, and staff on hand, to peep in and see what might be needed, were timely. It was catered, but Kress had beautiful restrooms, nice decor throughout, and a gorgeous room on the outside Terrace for the wedding, a lighted dance floor, mood lighting throughout, and a bar. A wonderful place to have a large gathering or party!
We were excited to book this place but seems once we started asking the staff more questions.....THEY never replied. After reading some of the other reviews, I see that this is a common thing for them. Sad I started them out with a 5 star. My future wife REALLY wanted to use them but they just stopped replying to her messages.
Just wanted to take a brief moment to thank you from the bottom of my heart for making the wedding absolutely amazing! It’s lovely to work with a team who collaborates and creates perfect synergy for a bride and groom...and I am happy to have participated in an event I was proud to document. Their love, your work, and their commitment to each other made for a perfect day.
Really fun event space for parties, weddings, and formal events. The staff can be hit or miss. They do have one Suite with a lot to offer and another that is mediocre so make sure you tour it. Love the location and the vibe here though.
My wedding was this past Sunday February 16th we rented Kress Terrace and Suite 300. On initial meeting the staff was amazing HOWEVER, once we decided we did not want to use their decorationing or catering company the customer service drastically went downhill. We paid to have the venue for 9 hours, had to pay an additional $200 just to get that ONE additional hour. We booked the venue 1:30-10:30pm. Our catering staff and decoration team arrived PROMPTLY at 130pm to begin setup. All doors to the building were locked. They were not gained access until about 150pm. The person on scene stated she was the building manager her name was CHARITY. she was not a pleasant person. My wedding coordinator pointed out that the chair covers were dirty and needed to be replaced and CHARITY told the coordinator that was not her job. Mind you the venue provided the chair covers so it was most definitely her job!. The bridal suit to Kress terrace was locked and Charity told my staff she wasnt opening it. When I arrived at the venue at 230pm the front door was still locked and Charity told my coordinator she was not going to open it and advised her I could walk through the parking deck to gain entry IN MY WEDDING DRESS. once cocktail hour started they were serving beer and wine and would so beer, wine and two signature drinks once it was moved to suite 300. We prepaid $750 and would add more once that amount was gone. Well according to the bar staff who by the way had horrible attitude as well once the reception started he claimed the money was already gone! There is NO WAY IN HELL in just one hour $750 is gone just off beer and wine. My coordinator asked them to show her the print out proving the money was gone and they could not provide it to her. Charity made the comment we have a good system on monitoring it but never showed the print out of the charges. Prior to our wedding we read reviews about the bar service double charging for drinks but was assured that it was a misunderstanding smh. After the wedding Charity told my clean up staff that the trash had to be removed and put in VEHICLES to be taken off property! For one who would put trash bags inside their vehicle? We asked if it was a dumpster on sight and she stated it was not. I pulled out the contract and showed her that it did not say anything about putting trash in our vehicle and she agrees and told us to just bag it and leave it. We called today to speak to the manger MICHELLE and explained out concerns and she basically cut us off and said you all should have removed the trash and put it in our vehicle. We paid this venue 3K and received bad attitude, unprofessionalism and horrible hospitality. I wouldnt refer this venue to my worse enemy. They ruin my wedding day
I had a wonderful experience touring all 3 venues, Courtney (our guide) was very helpful in painting a picture in each one to give us an idea of what our special day could look like. There really is something for everyone between them and the staff was kind and informative. We look forward to making our decision soon, but know it will be with them.
Other then the elevator problem 😂 only few know...lol excellent place to hold an event.... spacious...
Very nice layout with the rooftop sitting. Very comfortable atmosphere and an exceptionally nice place for a formal event such as a wedding or a reception. I would definitely recommend if youre trying to do something to impress
Greeting! Our daughter and new son-in-law was married on Sept 5, 2016 [Labor Day]. Kress Terrace is certainly an old building which took me back to my childhood days. I actually shopped at Kress before it changed to Woolworth up North. I am not here to bash the staff nor the venue. I gave the venue four stars because, although we strive for perfection, everything we do and everything we hope for on any special ocassion, isnt always perfect. My daughter and son-in-law selected this old-fashioned venue - It is lovely. The outdoor wedding was lovely, but hot. Thats mother nature. The guest tables set-up inside was simply lovely with a touch of elegance. The cake table was beautiful. The food was tasty. My interaction with the staff was pleasant. What I would suggest, that is, when someone is planning a wedding, try not to book events too close to one another because the staff can get burnt out. By the time the previous event was over, staff had to get back into gear and immediately prepare for another. It will burn-out your staff. I noticed a few staff appeared slow-moving, but they gave their best. So, since it was our daughter and son-in-laws wedding, a few family and friends decided NOT to sit back and dedicate, we stepped in by assisting with the placement of the plates and glasses onto the tables. We ALL were working together including our wedding planner. I know this is business, but these are also special times for those who wrote and signed the check. People should always read the reviews, so you know what to expect and to correct or just go to another venue. We did not have time to fuss on this joyful day because the clock was still ticking. Our guests were not aware of the delays because WE did not make it obvious. Our main responsibility had become to make sure the bride and groom were not aware of the delays, but that their hearts remained full of excitement so they can have a fabulous, fantastic, beautiful, heartfelt, memorable day. After all, It was a day that The Lord had made. And guess what? They rejoiced and was glad and blessed to be a part of it! Well Done!
Good staff and good food, great wedding, yes there is a but coming my daughter got charged for parking twice $20 total. Your mother and i had to borrow the money to park, really baby girl really. Other problems to, but we can speak privately about those soon/ASAP. Love forever and always 😜 dad 😜.🇺🇸 cef🇺🇸.
Gorgeous venue with wonderful views and accommodating staff. We had a wonderful time for our rehearsal dinner and would highly recommend!
Beautiful place for any type of special occasion or event.
My partner and I used this space for a photo shoot last year and a wedding this year-- wonderful shots, absolutely gorgeous space!
I photographed a wedding here shortly after Hurricane Florence and it was amazing! The staff was prompt and the views were magic!
I would like to thank Michele for all of her help in coordinating our wedding. She gave wonderful advice and everything turned out beautiful as well as delicious. Would recommend to anyone!
Horrible! Horrible HORRIBLE! If i could put 0 stars, i would! My husband and I booked both venues, up and down! There is an elevator so we knew older family members would be able to get to the roof top! The day of the wedding the elevator broke! And delayed the wedding a hour! On top of that, my 80 year old aunt had to be carried upstairs to the rooftop! If that wasn’t bad enough, there were ROACHES behind my cake table! And the lady had the nerve to ask if we BROUGHT THEM???? Yes, we do have pictures of this! After the wedding, i reached out to the Kress Terrace asking for atleast a partial refund for the elevator mishap because some of the older people couldn’t go upstairs and they said they are waiting for the elevator company to get back to them. My wedding was 9/2/18, it is now 2/21 and i still haven’t heard back from them. I have sent SEVERAL emails and i get the same response every time! That they are waiting to hear back from the company. The facts are, they don’t care because they got their money. The service is horrible, the people are rude. They talk a good game and touring and food tasting will be great but the actual day will be horrible! Book at your own risk!
Came here as a guest for a wedding, we arrived right at the time the wedding was supposed to start only to find out that the elevator for Suite 300 was locked and there was no attendant to service it.After about 25 minutes of waiting in the lobby with about 15 other guests an attendant finally came down and took us up, she offered a lackluster apology letting us know that she was being told several different things from her bosses. We completely missed the wedding service due to this, disappointing.
I just love Suite 300 and Kress Terrace! My sisters wedding was gorgeous, the staff was phenomenal and accommodating to make sure her special day went without a hitch! I would recommend this place to anyone planning a wedding@
A unique venue overlooking downtown Greensboro. Beautiful roof top terrace. Visions catering did a great job. I would highly recommend
This is an amazing venue! Awesome food and service! Along with an outstanding crew and great hospitality! I would recommend Kress Terrace to anyone planning an event!
Terrible customer service. I had a scheduled appointment with an employee, who I will leave anonymous, and I show up to at appointment time to an empty building. A different employee came in for a different appointment and did not seem to believe me when I had emails of my scheduled appointment with her colleague. Turns out it was not written down or recorded anywhere and I wasted an hour waiting, still unserviced! Never had one of my phone calls answered or emails responded to in a timely manner.
A wonderful place to hold a wedding my son got married there this week had a lovely event
Terrific Venue for any event! Both the 300 Floor and roof venues are perfectly designed for multiple budgets, and fully customizable setups. My favorite place in Greensboro, as a DJ, to perform.
Very cool old building. Great look.
This place is a hidden gem. I wish i knew about this when i got married 10 years ago. If you are having a classy event here its the place to do it at.
I had my wedding at Kress Terrace and Suite 300 a month ago-- the staff was so helpful, the venues are gorgeous, and the decor department was incredible. I would highly recommend this venue!
My cousin had her wedding here, beautiful
I cannot say enough good things about Kress Terrace and Suite 300! Hidden gems in the middle of downtown Greensboro. We will be throwing a graduation party there next year.
The IGNORE ClIENTThe wedding experience was great. However the management staff was awful. They didnt like you dropping by for questions without an appointment but all you get is an recording, telling you to email or they will contact you within 24 hours. However I was wedding host for s wedding that took place in November. During the room transformation for the reception my crystal champagne glass got broken by their staff. It has been three weeks since the wedding and I have not received a response. I also left my contact information day of the event with the manager on duty Tell me is this professional?
I HIGHLY recommend this place for your next event. The space and decor are mind blowing.
It was a little too dark and hard to find the entrance. However, my fds lively it up a bit by their own touch.
Its a beautiful venue. Hard load in for vendors and difficult flow for guests if youre using Suite 300 & Kress Terrace. Otherwise, great event space.
Windows, lighting/chandeliers, rooftop, everything is breath taking. Highly recommended for any event!
Visions catered my wedding back in October and while working with Visions prior to and even during was pleasant, my disappointment comes after-the-fact. Unfortunately during my wedding, a Visions employee managed to steal over $1,000 in cash, checks and gift cards off of the gift table. Through an investigation with the Greensboro Police Department, Visions was able to identify this man and he has since been arrested. Unfortunately during this investigation, it was brought to my attention that Visions knowingly hired this previously convicted felon and was fully aware of his very extensive criminal background. Despite these circumstances, Visions’ owner, Karen Willette, was very hard to get in touch with and did not return many of my calls, texts or emails. I do appreciate Visions willingness to identify the perpetrator, however I am very disappointed in the lack of sympathy on their behalf or even attempt to give a refund for our losses. After dealing with Visions in this capacity, I truly question Visions’ business model and efforts for proper customer satisfaction. In my opinion, Visions seems to be placing its focus on the gain of new business instead of treating customers with respect and compassion. I have held off writing this review as I experienced great customer service before and during my wedding but the lack of empathy and communication during this matter has me disappointed that a business would treat customers this way. I would highly encourage brides or other prospects to take Visions hiring practices into careful consideration when choosing this company & would not wish this on anyone else.
Had such a great time. Venue was beautiful and staff was awesome
Great staff, beautiful venues, we are looking forward to getting married there next year.
Its ashame that the management and staff is so poor considering the great views. During my experience at a party on the rooftop, workers repeatedly harassed people. Workers went through peoples bags and followed some into the bathroom. What was the greatest disappointment was some folks were kicked out for simply just trying to have fun on the dancefloor (which by the way was accompanied by a mediocre DJ). I would give it 0 stars if that were an option.
Terrible. No air conditioning. They knew the day before and said, No. Worries. Will be fixed. They didnt even call anyone until 30 minutes before guests were to arrive. Owner does not communicate from you after you make your significant deposit. Can only use her sisters catering company. The prime rib? Have you ever had steakums? Go for the steakums. But the owner will serve you and your guests when the wait staff leave due to heat exhaustion. Dont mind her three children who bring plates to her to serve one at a time. And dont mind that she will serve you in dirty pants and an old dirty tee shirt. The prim rib so thin and dry and flavorless. Terrible. Oh and the preferred DJ? He forgot his speakers and the fact that he was supposed to announce the transitions in the wedding. But there was one highlight! The bride and groom got to leave their table while waiting for their special dinner to cut the cake first so it wouldnt melt. Then the cake was cut and left on one table for guests to select when they wanted it. The cake, photographer, florist and person who performed the ceremony? They were not preferred and were exceptional. Havent heard a word from the owner of the Cress Terrace. She is likely taking the money she sucks out of people to open yet another low quality restaurant in Greensboro. If you go to Greensboro and have lunch or dinner at one of her restaurants like The W you will see, Looks great! Food and drinks stink.
Converted Kress Department store is a faux fashionable event venue — but it’s Greensboro so faux fashionable is what your gonna get anywhere in town that’s not a hotel barn-like ballroom.
I had an appointment and waited a long time to get help. The place itself is nice on the inside but the customer service was terrible.
Great little rooftop tiny event space in the city.
Nice venue tucked away in the middle of downtown.
Kress Terrace is BEAUTIFUL! I would recommend this venue for any special event!
Great venue with a style of there own.
Beautiful venue inside and out
The office staff is so helpful and the venues are so pretty!
Great spaces to rent for all occasions
This is the worst service experience ever! The staff were unprofessionally rude, following our guests into the restrooms. Many of our guests left the event early due to the uncomfortable environment that the Kress staff created. Some of the staff gripped our guests by the arms out of the party, causing our guests much discomfort. Its such a shame that this staff is so poor, detracting from the venue potential. Please do not use this venue unless there is a change in staff contract!!!!
Great people for wedding reception, too bad Greensboro doesnt have much of a skyline, but the rooftop was still very elegant
I will start by saying the venue is beautiful. However, my wedding planning, rehearsal, ceremony and reception was a nightmare working with Kress Terrace, Visions Catering, and Suite 300.I originally booked Suite 300 in January 2015, before it even was finished with renovations. I fell in LOVE with Kress and with the assurance from Karen and Michelle on all of the wonderful things they offered as a packaged deal with the venue, I was SURE this was the right place. Shortly after booking I contacted Kress more than 3 times before I could get a response back for a tasting. They told us the tasting was free and that we could not choose what we wanted, it was the chefs choice. If we wanted to try the food we wish to select, they would charge us $40 per person. when we arrived for the tasting we were amongst 5 other people. The service was horrible and it was extremely chaotic. But that isnt the worst part. The food was disgusting. It was cold and had no flavor or seasoning. At this point we wanted a refund for the booking. However, it was non refundable so at that point, we were locked in. They tried to rectify it by allowing us to come in for a complimentary tasting. It took us an entire 6 months to schedule the next tasting because they were not accommodating at all. The second time around the food was worse than before. The chicken and steak was tough, the food was still cold, and the lemonade was disgusting. We were told it may not taste like it should because they had to make a smaller portion size. They were FOREVER making excuses. They assure us the chef would season the food to our liking and it would not be cold. When we arrived into town we tried to contact them to confirm the time for our rehearsal dinner. They NEVER answer the phone. The day of our rehearsal we tried contacting them again and still no response. I decided to go to the venue an hour before rehearsal started to see if someone was there. They were and had a full tasting occurring. I informed Michelle, the time we agreed for the rehearsal and she assured me everything would be ready.Once we arrived at the venue, there was still someone doing their tasting. The chairs were not set up and there was no where to rehearse. Our rehearsal was scheduled to start at 2 and we did not begin until 2:50. They only allow you one hour to rehearse for the ceremony. Anytime after that, they will charge you. The event manager, Michelle, had the audacity to ask us to leave at 3:20 after we had to wait for the people who were there for the tasting to clear out and for our aisle to be set up.The CeremonyKristin, who was our manager was delightful, to a certain extent. Everything was set up nicely except for the fact the chair covers had stains on them. Ew.The Reception was a nightmare. The food was ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING AND WAS STILL COLD! They had to go back to their kitchen to rehear the food and instead of serving buffet style they had to serve the food played in order to keep it hot they had steamers with NO WATER IN THEM! Then at the open bar, they tried to serve our guest only beer and wine, where our contract states we paid for mixed drinks. Them the bartender tried to limit our guest to a one drink minimum! At an open bar? Yeah right.Lastly, the worst part of the night. One of the venue staff handed me a Togo box with food in I that spilled all over my wedding gown. Her solution was for me to take it to the cleaners. They attempted to help by putting shout on the dress to get the stains out but it barely did anything. They definitely will be getting a phone call from my attorney.I do not recommend this venue. Looks are deceiving
The worst place ever to have a wedding. The staff takes forever to get back to you, they feed you a bunch of broken promises, and they are thieves as the venue manager and her staff were helping themselves to my daughters buffet and telling her guests that there werent any leftovers. Lastly, in order to make themselves look good they create fake names and give themselves a 5 star rating. Please see the review from Carol Gilbert; that is clearly an employee as they are indirectly addressing the issue that my daughter had with them ruining her cake by cutting it into 3 pieces and shoving it into 2 tiny take out boxes. IF YOURE THINKING ABOUT RENTING THIS PLACE..DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DONT BC YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED. If it werent for Valyncia at Head Over Heals Event Catering and Tracey at Poshabilities Décor her day would have been a catastrophe because they couldnt finalize her floor and color plans to save her life. My daughter called me a week before her wedding in tears bc she had just left the venue for the 6th time and feared that they would mess her colors up again. Again, do not rent this venue out because they definitely made her wedding planning way more stressful than it should have been.
Worst Ever! I was so excited to have my wedding and reception at the Kress Terrace in downtown Greensboro. Karen (owner of exclusive caterer Visions Catering and property manager for Kress) gave us a tour. She really sold the place, and she seemed so sweet and easy to work with--we were very excited. Our one reservation was a rain plan--Karen said (verbatim) that they had a tent specifically designed for the terrace and it was only a couple hundred bucks to rent. Sounded great! Then...we met for the tasting/planning. First of all, we were corralled with at least 10 other couples, and the folks that had working the event were clueless. The girl assigned to our table had to go and ask the owner for answers to 90% of our questions. The food was TERRRRIBLE. Cold, nasty, dry. Then the kicker! We found out that the tent was actually $2,000 to rent as Karen had described it (with rain gutters etc). The girl at the tasting event told us that a couple hundred bucks meant different things to different people. LOL. I called Karen to discuss my concerns...and was SHOCKED that instead of apologizing and making it right, she was totally defensive and acted like all issues were our fault. And she had her husband on the call because he was so offended that my fiancé had DARED to speak to Karen at the tasting event when he was sitting right next to her...well he never even introduced himself, so how the heck were we supposed to know that that? And what kind of business owning woman cant discuss business with male clients without her husband being consulted first?? We gladly accepted our deposit back and planned and executed a FABULOUS FABULOUS wedding with another venue and caterer. The Kress has beautiful views, but you are forced to contract with nincompoops. Dont Do It!
Great experience, our family had a blast!
Very elegant...and a rooftop venue.
4th floor womens bathroom is disgusting. The windows are not covered and you can see in to the bathroom from outside. Complained to the 3 Rd floor and the 4th floor management and still did not fix.I was at this place outside having a smoke and realized the womens bathroom was clearly wide open with no shades on windows therefore viewable to everyone walking by and complained to two different managers. Of course nothing was done. I was shocked and disgusted that the people (friends🙄) who were with me told me it was none of my business. I blurted out in anger and meaning every word that if you were real men respecting women then you would have complained before I did instead of peeping through the window. I was so disgusted!! Where the hell are all of the men that have daughters and stick up for women?
Lovely venues and beautiful scenic terrace!
Love Kress Terrace! Great view.
They will not return your phone calls or respond to your emails. Visions catering has terrible customer service.
Beautiful views and staff is always nice.
Food inadequate for number of people. Back to back weddings: same outcome: incompetent staff, food ran out, lack of bar service, and non equipped restrooms. Disasterous.
Stunning venues, thank you all!
Wedding reception was very nice!
Love Kress and Suite 300 they are beautiful venues and the staff is great!!
Went for a party and no complaints
Love the energy.
