There are plenty of kind words to share about this business, but the people working here are hands-down the most professional, kind, and patient mechanics you could ever hope to have around! We were broken down, brought to Jims Automotive and had no one to turn to. Matt, Jim, Geronimo and others were amazing and helpful with every step of the process. Thank you guys for everything youve done!
True professionals. Reasonably priced for excellent service. Staff & owner we’re really friendly and very knowledgeable. Highly recommended!
I can not begin to say enough about professionalism, clean and timely service, and a genuine feel good work environment.Jim and his team are the epitome of what an auto shop should be.I would recommend this place to anybody.
We brought our 2008 Tacoma and 2018 Mazda CX-5 to Jims for regular maintenance and oil changes, and were hooked from the first visit. For a simple oil change, they provide a complete inspection report, including photos of what they found and any needed repairs. They always let you know the cost of service in advance, and tell you if repairs can be deferred and for how long. Today they contacted an authorized Mazda dealer to determine whether repairs would be covered under warranty, even though they could have done the work themselves and charged us abut $1,500 for it. This is what we call stellar (and all too rare). Plus, you get a bag of Smart Pop with every service call. :-)
Did an amazing job on my vehicle and prices are very fair. Ive now recommended them to everyone I work with.
Great, fast, friendly service and very reasonably priced. Our car broke down about 20 miles outside Glenwood Springs and Jim’s was able to get us in, diagnose then problem (broken fuel pump) and fix it in a matter of hours. We’re from Salt Lake and have had fuel pumps replaced in two other cars in the past several years and Jim’s pricing was spot on with the places we used in SL. Plus Jim’s used a part that apparently comes with a 2 year 24,000 mile nationwide warranty on the part and labor! So grateful we ended up at their shop! Thanks for getting us back on the road so fast and for the great customer service!
Nothing but good things to say about Jim’s Automotive and their staff. When all the other shops were unable to accommodate for weeks out, Dodge Motors in Glenwood Springs personally recommended Jim’s Automotive. They got us in right away and had a diagnosis back to us by the time they promised (almost unheard of in past experiences). Josh was our point of contact from start to finish. He is very knowledgeable and gives you all the options up front. Also, he gives you time to make a decision and doesn’t rush you as automotive work can be very expensive. Affordable, accommodating, knowledge and friendly staff. Definitely the preferred friendly neighborhood automotive shop. Will recommend to friends.
#vanlife - taking my home/van in for repair is always stressful - but these guys were amazing, honest, descriptive and I loved chilling in your waiting room with the coffee, drinks and wifi! Thank you!!
Jim’s was recommended to me by a couple friends, and they were right. In 19 years of car ownership I have never had an experience this good (and that’s saying something since my truck needed way more work than I thought). Josh called me to check in multiple times, explain the work in detail, and the online photo diagnostic link they send is amazing! When they had a cancellation, they worked on my truck and got it done 24 hours before the projected time, and for less than the original quote. Emotional support cat in the lobby and bonus bag of popcorn in my truck a definite plus. Can’t recommend these guys enough!
Its always nice to find a reasonable & reliable independent local garage. Friendly, confident mechanics that dont go for any dealer-style upsells. Get it fixed here before you end up stuck in Aspen :-)
DONT BE FOOLED. This is a great place if you’re looking to pay 2x the price for the parts that they give you. A 2000 dollar quote here will be 1000 anywhere else, guaranteed. I bet they all drive fords...
I am thrilled with the service I received from Jims Automotive! Each one of the staff members was pleasant and helpful. I have an older van that I have taken to multiple mechanics; however none of them were as thorough as Jims. I appreciated how they took the time to explain the issues to me. My van is running better than it ever has before. Thank you Jims!
Overpriced, inaccurate information, but has a very thorough diagnostic. My first time visiting, I had a diagnostic done. They ended up not charging me because they could not hear the sound and figure out what was making the noise in my engine that caused me to bring it in for a diagnostic in the first place. I thought this was great. So later on, when the noise became more frequent and I knew they would be able to hear it this time, I brought it to them. They diagnosed it as the wheel bearings, and gave me a quote for the price. After getting quotes from several other mechanics, Jims Automotive was charging me twice as much as any other mechanic. I called them and told them that I would be going elsewhere for services. Conveniently, 20 minutes later, they call me and tell me my entire wheel has fallen off of my truck because the bearings were that bad. Not sure if this is true, or if it was a ploy to get me to use their services because the truck could no longer go to another mechanic. Honestly its probably true because I waited a while to get the bearings replaced.. However, still oddly convenient. They also refused to do any service where I bought the parts myself. So I called my insurance and had the truck towed to another mechanic, who is charging me 1/3 of the price Jims Automotive was and is allowing me to provide my own parts to save money. Not only this, but when I went to Jims Automotive to pay for the second diagnostic, they tried to charge me an additional $15 than what they first quoted me for the diagnostic. They staff were friendly, but I find this mechanic as very overpriced and provides/changes the cost of things they initially quoted you at (diagnostic, for example). I dont mind them refusing to do any service with customer-provided parts, but in that case you should make your prices at least more reasonable, especially when compared to other mechanics in the area (Jims automotive quoted me at $1600 for bearings and brakes, another mechanic $950, and another mechanic $350 - this last mechanic is only going to charge cost of labor with me providing parts, however, but is now doing more work due to additional damage to the truck after wheel falling off).If you dont mind spending the money and want thorough service, I guess go here. But there are cheaper places that are just as friendly and can do a good job
This was my first experience with Jim’s Automotive and I couldn’t be happier with the results. They were very straight forward and honest about what to expect. I brought my truck in for a brake light electrical issue and was expecting it to be a big job. They called me within 40 minutes once started and had already diagnosed the issue. It was a simple fix and they gave me the option to have them fix it or to have me to it to save some money. I am very pleased and will be using them again. Thank y’all for your honest, quick work!
I would give 6.9 stars if possible! Matt was amazing, professional, kind, and had the bedside manner of a brain surgeon, but instead of operating on my brain, it was my Subaru (and my heart). Our car broke down on a cross country road trip and we would have been SOL without the guys at Jims. And they gave us water and seltzer. Bless up!-Two Yankee Brothers
Josh and the crew here are amazing! The work was done faster than expected and with great customer service. They also went above and beyond to assist with my situation. Thank you guys so very much for everything!
Brought a car in for a pre purchase inspection. Josh was absolutely great about explaining each item on the list and providing an overall impression of whether to buy the vehicle or not. When we called back and gave him the sellers price he even gave us his opinion on the price and offered a detailed pricing breakdown of all the needed repairs so we could evaluate whether the sellers price was fair. Was a very straight up interaction. And the price for the inspection was only $50.
One of Jims workers broke my tailgate trying to open it to retrieve wheels from the bed of my truck. Jim was insulted by the idea that he is responsible in full for fixing the damage his people caused. Jim is an accredited mechanic that refused to take responsibility for damage that his business caused. Shame on Jim. I left with a broken tailgate, which is a $150 fix.
On my way from Ohio to Utah. Of course the car breaks down. AAA towed me a hundred miles to Jims. the most honest and most kind people that have ever worked on my car before. they were able to fix it yet that evening and I was back on the road to finish my trip. Great professional group of people!!
Honest and professional. Jimmy has taken care of our cars for 25+ years. The 2000 Nissan still runs great! And best of all, the team will tell you what’s needed - and what is not/optional. Professional work at a good price. Friendly, too!
Great people with honest work ethic, I only wish there were more than a couple Jims working on cars in the valley. Dealerships up here hold a monopoly as if you own a chevy you have one dealership to choose from. Jim cares and gives great service and has for the past over 20years
Trustworthy, friendly, very good. My car would not start. They explained the problem to me. The fix was really affordable and Jims Automotive just fixed it proper. PS before getting my car towed I asked which places were recommended ... Jims Automotive came recommended by people living in other surrounding towns.
First I have been associated with the automotive repair/parts industry for over 17 years and understand how the system works...so with that said here is my review: Overall great service, very friendly and helpful staff. I would highly recommend them. They took their time to diagnose my car, get back to me with options, and was very patient with me as I had to make an expense decision. They do really want to help you get your car back on the road. The only reason why I did not give them five stars, is their cost of parts. I am used to getting my cars serviced in Denver and after making some phone calls...found I would have saved some money having it done with a couple of shops over there. BUT, with that said...I will be back to have them work on my cars. I like their professionalism, helpful nature and their kindness. Very rare in the automotive repair world!
I would recommend this place to everyone! The service here was fantastic. My husband took our car in for a leak, they diagnosed what the real problem was and fixed it immediately! I was told my son had a blast there as well (he even wanted to go back and have lunch with them!). To top it off when my husband drove off they had a bag of popcorn in the car. That was such a thoughtful thing to make us all smile! Will definitely be back, thanks for the great service!
A friend recommended these guys a few years ago and Ive been bringing more and more of my business here. They are honest and I love that they do a full inspection and will help you identify which repairs need to be made first, second, third, etc. Very helpful. I saw one comment about the bathrooms being dirty and that has never been my experience. The waiting room is always clean and comfortable.
Jims did a great job fixing up my heavy duty diesel truck. Communication regarding issues and pricing was fabulous, I highly recommend them for automotive work
Every place has bad and good reviews. I just want to share my experience. Jim gave me a ride to work in Basalt so they could work on my car b/c they didnt get my brake pads when they were supposed to. Then they dropped off my truck later that day. I closed the office, started my truck, put it in drive, and it felt like the emergency brake was on. I put it in reverse and it did the same thing. I called them and talked to Jim. He said he would call me back but didnt. I called them a little later and Leah said that he grabbed a mechanic and jumped in his truck to come up here. When they got here they looked at my wheels and it turned out to be something else that needed adjustment. They fixed it and made sure the truck was running good. I couldnt believe Jim did that for me. What a great bunch of people. Stuff happens sometimes and its not the shops fault but when people do this I am reassured that they are taking great care of me and my truck. Thanks
Quick, smart, honest, and overall amazing service. I needed an electrical component installed on my jeep that needed to tow a Uhaul and found out only last minute. Wouldve been in a bad spot if i couldnt get it done, but i brought my jeep to Jim and his crew and they helped me right away at a very reasonable price, especially for same day service. Hannah was very helpful in giving me rides back to town and then back to Jims when the work was done. I couldnt have been more happy and satisfied with the work done, and the respect and courtesy Jim and his crew showed me. I highly recommend them to everyone!!!!
Jims Automotive went above and beyond to accommodate me during a busy time (directly after a holiday weekend and snow storms). I had gotten in an accident in CO driving cross-country from NYC to LA and my car needed work done after the accident. Josh and Hannah were more than generous, they were accommodating and helped me get back on the road as quickly as possible. Jims did fast work and were honestly and friendly. I highly recommend them!
These guys were awesome!! I was I a crunch to fix my car. They couldn’t do it but recommend a different auto mechanic & were really helpful!! Thanks guys!!
They work by appointment, which is great because I was able to wait during the service. Waiting area is very clean with selection of coffee, tea and cold drinks along with snacks. Staff all very professional and helpful. Reasonable rates for auto work.
My family and I were on vacation and had car issues. Staff at Jims Automotive were able to see us on short notice and were able to fix our issues quickly. They even were able to discount the price when we went to pick up the car. Thanks so much.
Used to like this place. They were friendly at first and I gave them a lot of repair business with no real satisfaction and resolution. Then it seemed I was being brushed off. i liked their gas though.
At MVP HOME SERVICES, we depend on our small fleet of service trucks to meet the needs of our most valued clients throughout the Roaring Fork Valley. So when one of our trucks goes down, it greatly impacts us. Recently, when this happened, Jim’s Automotive understood our plight and worked expeditiously to get our truck diagnosed, repaired and back on the road. Thanks Jim’s Automotive.. all of us at MVP HOME SERVICES appreciate your efforts on our behalf. Highly recommended! Jim Tomberlin
We had car trouble on the way home to California. We needed a new timing belt and the whole set included....Id just had it done before the trip... (another story). The good thing is Jims mechanic stayed long that night and got us on the road 2 hours ahead of time. Im glad to give them a good review. He contacted our home mechanic and adjusted our bill accordingly. AND we got a discount on our overnight car rental. Thanks guys. We appreciate it.
Went in to see if I could get my AC looked at to see if I should fix it or not, I was charged $71 just to look at it. The man at the counter never told me what it would cost or I would’ve declined it being looked at. So I gave them close to &100 dollars to tell me it was broken. Thanks. Never will I be back again. Normally they are helpful and informative but not today.
I have had a great deal of work done at Jimmys over the past several years. Very friendly and accommodating staff and quick service. The problem is that over time the service quotes became completley unreasonably priced. Lea could not explain why the same oil level sensor replacement would be 3 times more expensive than at our local Audi dealership and seemed fine with losing my business over it. Its too bad....Ive liked doing business with them. But Im not going to be taken advantage of! My recommendation is to to get several other estimates and provide feedback if there are big discrepancies. Im a local and wanted to support family owned and operated business too. Darn.
This is my second time getting work done at Jims. Josh is the one that helped me through all the information and pricing. I highly highly recommend him. He is very informative and helpful. Mike was the mechanic who did the work on my car and my VW Jetta is up and running again!Jims automotive has the best prices and services in town. Save your time and money at this shop. They are a trusting company to do business with.
Volkswagen started having issues after going over Independence Pass. Calling around the valley, everyone said we had to go to foreign car specialists. Jims Automotive was able to get us in that day when everyone else was booked a week out. They had a diagnostic within the day and Josh called all over the state to track down the necessary part (which took a full day to get there). Once the part got in, they got the car in and fixed hours before schedule. We had to spend two extra days in Glenwood, but it was worth it to actually get the car back within the week. They were also able to process and expedite the warrantee refund within a half hour, and we found a complimentary bag of popcorn in the car. Thanks guys!
Everyone at Jim’s Automotive was really helpful and friendly. Got me back on the road made it home to Nevada and still running strong!
A good honest repair shop is hard to come by in this valley but Jims has my business 100%
I dont even know where to begin. Ive never experienced such an ordeal. Given that they have adequate customer service (until the complaints come rolling in), this wasnt enough to make up for the fact that they butchered my car. Initially, I was given an explanation that my spark plugs needed replaced and a coolant flush was also VITAL to my car running properly. I was quoted $600 and admittedly was so frantic over not having transportation, agreed to paying half now and half at a later date. Upon first picking up my car, everything seemed to be fine and I was able to drive smoothly to Target (5 minutes away) before finding my car dead once again in the parking lot. I called calmly and politely asked for the owner to supply a solution as I needed my car for the evening. I was offered a tow truck, a rental car for the weekend and an inspection of the car ASAP on Monday morning. Not only did I receive none of the above, my boyfriend sat waiting for about an hour before they told him to go drive the car around again until it died. It took about 20 minutes for him to drive, have the car die and finally get them to look at the car. Upon second inspection, I received numerous phone calls at my place of business from the owner asking permission to work on my car. At the time, I was WORKING.. and was unable to debate whether or not this was a good idea, yet the owner continued to call. Hesitantly, my boyfriend made the executive decision to let them fix the car as they said they discovered what the issue was and admitted the work done before was irrelevant to the cars real issue. Despite the mistake made on THEIR part, they were not only asking an additional $215.00 for the needed work but they also expect me to pay the balance of $300.00 owed from prior unnecessary work. Not only did we refuse to pay, but they ended up doing the work on my car without my authorization. At this point, I am awaiting a call of collections, if you will.. And plan on disputing this and any other charges that come of this. After just getting my codes read from my STILL LIT check engine light, it seems there have been more problems caused from visiting this business than were ever present before. Not only did we receive poor quality services and results, the warm and friendly exterior of the owner and his overbearing wife quickly dissipated once we called them out on their wrong-doings. Definitely plan on spreading the word as much as I can.If you value the life of your car, DO NOT give these people your business.
Diesel Pros were too busy, thats where 3 people recommended that I go, but they were so busy that they said it would be 2 weeks before they could work on my Van. I had no choice but to get my brakes and rotors replaced by Jims. They Slammed me with a $920 bill. My mechanic back home said he would have done it for half the price. Sucks getting screwed on the road!
Nope!! Don’t waste your time! Quoted 4 hours and then told maybe done in 8 hours. Plus extra parts, saw them work on it then test drive and smoked poured from my truck as they drove it!! I went in for brakes! No reason it should take eight hours or have smoke leaving my vehicle! This place has deteriorated over the years. They are not what they used to be. They are jacking up prices, after they have your vehicle, not having a vehicle done when they say they will, refusing to give you honest answers, taking advantage of locals!
The only reason they get a 3 star rating is because of staffing. They were great and got the job done in a very timely manner. That’s where my happiness ends. Their prices are ridiculous $12.83 per quart of mobile one (Walmart sells five quarts for around $25). Then on top of that $15 for the actual oil change, so grand total for an oil change $90. Also to charge $70 just to diagnose my issue when I basically led them to the issue. Ok I get it if I were to say screw you im going elsewhere after you diagnose my car sure then charge me. If I’m going to get the work done there then that charge should be taken off. Overall upper control arms both sides and lower ball joints both sides and an oils change came to a total of $1732.19. Ouch!!!!! Will check out other places before I go back to Jim’s for anything
The service was so nice, I came in to get a check engine light checked out, and they worked for almost 3 hours to give me all of the answers I needed, and then only charged me the original amount of 50$. They are super considerate of your budget and were sure to explain everything going in in my car. They even left a box of candy and a thank you in my car when they were done. Thank you!
Over Priced. People there are friendly but I needed a new radiator and was quoted at $550 plus they charged $60 for a pressure check. Glenwood Radiator quoted me at $250 plus free pressure check. Maybe this is just differences with radiator prices but I would be careful nonetheless.
Helped us check coolant right away after coming our mountains! Thank you
