The service was AMAZING! The only thing I didn’t care for was having to take a shuttle to the car rentals but I won’t consider that a part of this rating. Once we arrived at the desk we were greeted immediately and had our car within 5 minutes of arriving at the rental desk. The agent (I cannot remember his name) was very friendly and very helpful... he even upgraded us for free from a standard sized car to a full size! The car was clean and ready to go before we got there. The drop off process was simple as well. They were closed during the time we had to have the car back by but they have attendants in the rental garage to assist you I’m assuming 24/7 because our car was checked in 10 minutes after dropping it off. This is my first time renting with Payless and it won’t be my last! Thank you Payless for making this experience as least stressful as possible! I’m a nervous wreck anytime I travel and this was a very pleasant experience.Also, I had a $100 hold on my debit card until I dropped it off and it was back in my account two days later which was another added bonus!!
I expected to pick up a car from the payless counter because there was always a shirt or no line to wait on. Instead I was forced to join the Budget Rental line and had to wait about 45 minutes.
My initial car was not cleaned properly or at all. The vehicle reeked of tobacco, which we tried to clean/disinfect ourselves. We found melted candy stains on steering wheel, cough drop wrappers in the back seat,grease/hand stains on the leather, and a used face mask under the passenger front seat. The FOB on the key was not working, so the electrical aspects of the car were not able to be used appropriately. Most of all we went on a road rip to Orlando from Miami and the radio or Bluetooth or any sound for that matter, was not working. No discount was given, only option to change car which was an additional inconvenience, since it was out of my way and was required to travel specifically to Airport. Also the price was much higher than the competitors at the time, I only used them because the line was empty. I should have known something was up when people would rather wait in long lines than use them. The 2 employees who helped me at the front desk were nice. thats about it.

Scammers scammers scammers!!!! Be careful with this company!! They forcing people to take their insurance and they did it to me even if I had my own rental car insurance and a coverage from my credit card as a secondary insurance.Also, they forcing people to take a Sun Pass toll device for $15 (!!!) A day! Yes, a day!!! You dont need it if you dont take the toll lanes, and every Floridian knows that $15 a day its a rip-off.They just said that this is their policy and we *need* to take insurance and a SunPass for over 35 dollar together a day.And thats how 165 dollars simple rental car became $350.I just pay the cancellation penalty ($35) and I went back to the terminal to take a car from one of the known rental car companies.DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM PAYLESS!!

I rented a car from Payless 9/2019. 1st, I forgot to top off the tank prior to returning the car. Once we arrived and Francisco started his inspection on the car, he informed me that I would be charged 10 per gallon to fill the car. He allowed me to take the car to the nearest gas station and top off the tank prior to turning the car in. I was extremely tired from travel, when I returned and Francisco once again started his inspection he asked if we had all of our belongings including cell phones. This is when I realized I left my phone at the gas station. Francisco drove us back to the gas station in his personal vehicle to retrieve my phone. What a wonderful customer service agent!!! I appreciate everything Francisco did that day and would love to work with him again in the future.
We arrived in the evening and were ready to start our vacation. The car we were provided had an unclean smell to it and noticed a small dent and some other items we noted, when exiting the rental facility. The next morning when we went to use the car (now that it was bright out) we were stunned to find the car was never cleaned. The was a pop bottle, Combos bag and all sorts of other debris and filth. It looked like possible a small area of vomit as well. Looking further there was crumbs, dirt and other misc. items throughout. We also went to use the windshield wipers to clear bugs and there was no fluid! If this can sneak under the radar, than I have very low confidence that the vesicles are even being maintained. The car would occasionally have a weird pull to the left at thruway speeds. It didnt seem safe and was stressful even driving the vehicle. Our pickup and drop off locations were not the same, so we were not in a close vicinity to a Payless location to address this during the trip. We just tried to enjoy our vacation and hoped we would make it back without issue (thank God we did). I would be extremely hesitant to ever use Payless again. It was not worth the couple bucks saved. Ill be surprised if this even gets a response honestly... #Disappointed
Rental car pickup and drop-off was simple and quick. No long lines like other rental companies. Staff was very friendly and rental car was new and clean.
The rep at the desk gave me false information I traveled to Miami twice in one month rented vehicles from you both times and both times I didn’t get what I asked for or what I payed for. Please get new reps at the Ft.Lauderdale airport the African American female rep is the worst
The were the next cheapest option. But you don’t get the insurance hassle with them like you do with the smaller players. They do try to make sure you have insurance and try to sell you all types coverages. However, if you’re not interested they won’t hassle you about it. Definitely will rent with them again.
The worst car rental ever. If I could give them half a star I would. We waited an hour for our car. When driver pulls up he just walks away without acknowledging us. Then when we returned the vehicle the attendee was unable to print our receipt. I thought technology was advanced but they are behind. I will never rent from them again. Never use this company in Fort Lauderdale or anywhere in the world.
Pros: The personnel was very kind and helpful.The car was very comfortable, nice and with an economic consumption.The toll fee is acceptable.Cons: Some parts inside the car looked dirty. For example, the break handle, and the drink pockets. But still, a good deal!
The gentlemen at the Fort Lauderdale counter were so helpful to me. They genuinely cared about my rental experience. This wasnt just a job to them.
Easy to make reservations. Very accommodating in all ways. Payless is our first choice when looking for a rental car.
It took over an hour and a half to get on with our already short vacation. We had even reserved a vehicle the day before. First the car in the slot didnt match the car on the contract so we had to back away from the exit booth and go back inside. Then we realized the vehicle on the contract was not in the lot and had to go back inside again. We ended up with the first vehicle we started with after they changed the contract. The staff was very helpful but the system was very disorganized and cost us valuable time.
Had the worst experience ever. Had my trip planed for two months everything booked even the car. But when I arrived they told I didn’t get approved cause I didn’t have a credit card. They ruined all the plans I had. I would not recommend this to nobody.
I received a great rate on a one way rental. They were a little hard to find at RIC and we had to wait a few minutes for the car. The return was quick and easy.
I was charged additional fee when I should not have been charged. I explained to the representative I had issues with the vehicle which cause a major delay, I called and informed the agent that i WOULD RETURN CAR AT 7:30 PM BECAUSE OF THE ISSUES, i WAS INFORMED THERE WOULD BE NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE
Wow with a name like Payless you expect less than stellar staff and customer service, but I was amazed that it was the total opposite. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. No hidden fees or agendas and even after dealing with a bad attitude customer before me the agent who dealt with me (Forbes) was as pleasant as one could be when it was my turn. Great rates, great people. I will always rent with them now.

Awesome staff! Unpreventable things kept occurring, but their staff were friendly, helpful, and efficient! From the shuttle having a cone stuck inside the fender b/c the power went out on all the streets, to the power outage and we did everything manual with a flashlight. They gave us an upgrade, made it smooth as possible with the unfortunate limit of light, and their prices were excellent! Ebony is the shuttle driver. She had great vibes! The manager and the other staff were awesome, but I cant remember their names.
Worst company ever!!! I never write reviews or try to be that person who complains but let me tell this company is a total scam, one star is too much . I rented a small car for only a usage of 5 hours then to be returned and I got it for $25 including tax. Once I reviewed my bank account I noticed they charged me $106.23!! I contacted them regarding this and they started bringing up charges that they in the first place never me informed about and they ranked up the prices without even informing me. I brought the car back full and they still charged me a fuel charge!!! I will be contacting corporate regarding these scammers, they should shut this company down!!

Once again this time in Fort Lauderdale- Hollywood airport. No directions on how to get back to the car rental return enterance. Similar experience at Hobby six months ago. Didnt even bother to call a customer rep this time because like before you get someone in another state and clueless. Enterances are not well marked for Payless. Size 8 font lettering under all the other size 102 font rental companies signs. Google map was no good either in either experiences because both Houston (Hobby) as well as Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood airport Google always takes you to the reception deck at the departure terminal not the rental return enterance.
Suzette was Excellent! She is the role model for an exceptional customer service and she gets 5 stars. She went above and beyond to make sure me and my family were happy with the rental. My rating, however, is based on a combination of experiences. One: The counter rep was extremely slow, but it wasnt her fault, the system went down every other customer. So like other people on these reviews, this was frustrating. Two: again, just like other reviews, there was not enough people at the counter to help, which sounds like a frequent issue. Three: there was a huge line and we had to wait for over an hour for an already reserved rental. Despite the bad counter experience, Suzette, who was at the booth where we received our rental, was extremely helpful and actually ran inside to adjust our contract, she walked around the car to address any scratches concerns that we had. I would probably rent again for two reasons: Price and Suzettes customer service.

Reserved a car over a month ago get to the counter only Vans or SUV available. Will never use again. Go to the garage 4 cars there, gentleman in garage was helpful. Rest of the Payless is more like Worthless.

Lets put it this way. The computer wasnt working when we picked up the car so we had no printed rate sheet/info. We didnt get a receipt when we returned the car (not even an emailed one). The car worked fine.
Great experience!I would rent from Payless again.One complaint and it applies to all the rental car companies.If I went to purchase a full size car, I would get a Chevy Impala or Ford tarus. rental companies define full size cars as smaller than they actually are.I was very happy with the Toyota Camry but it is not a full size car by definition.

In addition to rental I was charged and additional $138.00 for being less than 1-hour late (18.00) and 1/2 tank gas at $120.00. 1/2 tank gas would normally cost $20.00 at gas station and Payless charge $120.00. This was my first rental with Payless & my last.
Dont waste your time with these clowns. Apparently no means yes to them when you decline all the extras such as the additional insurance. Youre better off with a reputable dealer.
I picked up my car rental, while submitting my payment, Charles (worked on January 17, 2015 at 1:00 pm) advised me of the rental deposit in addition to my total rental cost. I replied, Yes, thats fine. He further proceeded to ask, Do you have enough money on your debit card? Appalled that he even had the courage to ask that, I replied, well thats a little personal sir. Clearly if I said that is fine, than I have enough money on the card. The way he tried to justify it was even more insulting. His response was O only asked because if I swipe the card and it is declined, then you will not be able to use the card again.I will be writing and calling to speak to a manager regarding this incident. I didnt not heat Diane, the other employee ask her customers that question. As a 2nd year law student, I am aware that that question was not supposed to be asked. Do not rent from here.
Not sure why there are negative reviews. Linda (Lynda?) helped us out and was outstanding. Short wait and great service. We will definitely recommend Payless to our friends.

Absolute disaster. No employees at Ft Lauderdale airport at 11pm, and a long line of angry customers with no cars. Had to rent last minute from hertz at a much higher price.
Because your company double charged me. Tried calling about 10 times and got nowhere. Went to the airport and the man assured me the one of the payments was released back to my account. Told me to call my bank, I did and the money was never released back to the account from your company. My bank also tried calling and got nowhere.
The car we got, a Kia Sorento, was in excellent shape and drove very nicely. The return was pretty easy, though the area that Payless is in is tight. Good experience!

Renting from Payless has always been an excellent value for us. When a particular vehicle that we have reserved is not available, we have have always received a satisfactory upgrade. I always check Payless whenever renting a vehicle. I wish they operated in more destinations across the US.
Located in the airport so no shuttle. There was no lines when i checked in and when I returned. No complaints.
Subject: HORRIBLE EXPERIENCEI rented a vehicle on sunday April 29, 2018- 30th and was displeased with the service. I requested that the insurance be removed due to the fact that my insurance company and credit card company provides me with coverage on any vehicle I rent. The insurance was not remove!I contacted customer service about the situation and was told that there is nothing that they can do and that I must drive back to the airport in order to remove insurance.Please keep in mind that I was about 1hr away from the airport and it would have cost my time with my family as well as gas just to go and have the issue resolved.I dont understand how a customer can be treated with such horrible customer service. i was not aware that your company has so little respect for customers time, money, and energy.This has been one of the worst customer service experience that i have had.Hopefully no one else is subjected to such a horrible experience as my self.Whom do i have to contact in order to get this rectified?Customer service wont help!These guys are crooks

Great price for the week. Decent car. No issues. Sun Pass for tolls was a little a bit over priced especially when you dont really know how many times you got charged. Would probably rent again from them.
My quote for a vehicle was 180$ for 4 days. I ended up being charged 620$ for the car. I still havent gotten a receipt for the reason why. I called customer service and they opened a ticket and closed it 12 hours later with no response. I called back with my credit card companies dispute department and they told me they would respond in 72 hours. I am going to talk to lawyer if this isnt resolved soon. Its criminal to me big companies can treat people this way. Id be in jail if I didnt bring the car back and said Id respond to the complaint within 72 hours.

The transaction was incomplete based on what I was told by the customer representative but I alerted her that I was charged and confirm it by calling my credit card company but was insisting that I wasnt. No compensation or discount was offered.
HORRIBLE.I had a staff member flying into Orlando for a day for work. We had a reservation for a car at this location.The lady refused to rent a car to our staff member because as a Florida Resident he is required to have with him his paycheck stub or utility bill. Even thought he had his Driver License and Insurance card both indicating a Florida address. I offered to email or fax the check stub to her she said no he had to have it with him. We even proposed to pay a hire rate but she refused and sent him on his way.I called the nation customer service center just to find out what their policy was and was told well the agent has t serve customers they cant take the time to get your email.So I guess I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS LOCATION OR COMPANY AT ALL.

No way did we have the experience others have reported here. Although they didnt have the size car we had reserved they didnt hesitate for a second to upgrade us and the price stayed the same. While we were in Miami the car was broken in to and windows smashed out. We called the Ft. Lauderdale location and they told us to make it easier just go to the Miami location and swap it out. We just that. Everyone was incredibly helpful and very kind. There were no additional charges added.The only snafu was when we returned the car in the wee hours of the morning before catching our flight the guy checking cars in was a jerk. There were a few cars coming back at the same time and people arent familiar with how or where to park. This guy was pissy and snapped at everyone. If everyone knew what to do then you wouldnt need an attendant however thats his job to help people out. We all got parked and on our way.We will continue to rent from these folks and hope that they talk to their staff about slapping on a smile even if its fake.
Ive used the Payless Ft Lauderdale location several time. The staff was always friendly and helpful. Rates are fantastic and the cars always as described. Highly recommend considering Payless FLL!

I highly recommend anyone that read this comment to consider another rental agency. On 2/17/17 approximately 8:15 pm EST I was at Payless Rental located at the Ft Laud Airport. The employee a hispanic individual began to speak in spanish to his overly tatooed co-worker. Unbeknownst to the them, I knew what they were saying and that they were speaking about me after running my driver license. Hopefully, other patrons do not experience blatant disrespect, its one thing to speak another language but to speak about potential customers right in there face assuming he/she does not understand is pathetic
Terrible,Was forced to take Liability Insurance from agent Diane even after I verbally declined it to the agent.Terrance from Executive desk was no help at all after my complaint.Company does not care about there customers nor do they want to listen to there customers complaintssound like they just pass the buck.Worst company ever do yourself a favour do not rent from Payless
Every thing went well. The car had a few scratches but over all it was fine. The staff were very friendly. They did try to push the insurance and upgrades but they were not overly pushy. I will rent from them again.
The rental desk at FLL leaves a lot to be desired but other than that the car and the experience were excellant. The Payless worker at the desk never looked up when speaking and talked so low that we could barely understand what he was saying. I really thought it was a shady company until we found the car.
Dont use them!I was using Payless quartery, to visit my mother. Every other visit, they were out of cars, and had to send me to their neighbor. They also arent available 24 hours. My big complaint was that they charged me for insurance. Ive never taken car rental insurance in 30+ years. I am sure that I verbally declined. Somehow (according to them) I initialled the i want your insurance line. So, a month later, i used their internet complaint; i never heard back. I tried again, and never heard back. Two months in, I call. Sit on hold a while. They take my complaint, and priomise a refund and an email. I get neither. A month later, i call again. Now they say that my request for refund has been denied. I complained more, and they didnt budge. So, theyve pumped me for $43. But I wont use them again, and hopefully you wont, either!

The moron behind the counter insisted on being shown A utility bill in order to prove residence.After providing this idiot my CDL and 4 credit cards and my vehicle registration he still refused to honor the HOTWIRE reservation.I was treated like a common street bum, I am a disabled person and had no other way out of the airport.It took me hours to get home via city buses.Avoid this car rental agency AT ALL COST !

This is not a company anyone should trust!!!!!! I had reserved a car from EZ Car rentals in Fort Lauderdale airport online through Southwest rapid rewards. When I arrived at the check in desk I was checked in through Payless Car rentals. The two car rental companies work out from the same counter. Upon realizing they were doing a rental through Payless instead of EZ I was assured by the agent at the counter (Ann) that I would get the same rewards and same deal I reserved through Southwest. They said we work together as one company so I took the rental through Payless. It was a MISTAKE. When I arrived back home and checked my rapid reward points from Southwest the car rental for the trip was not showing on my account. When I called Payless I talked with an agent who told me we do not do rapid reward points.
Be careful with payless. I didnt know I needed to pay for roadside service, and I needed it. I endrd up calling my aaa service to jump start car. they were no help. I was not happy
We were returning home from our vacation and rented a vehicle to drive back to Naples. When we got to the counter at the airport we were created by George. After finding my reservation George then asked me for a 2nd form of ID to verify my address such as a bank statement or a light bill. Who carries this with them on vacation? I told him there was no mention of that in the e-mail I received and he just kept telling me that it is in their policies. He would not budge and actually told me if I didnt have something then I could go somewhere else. I was getting angry but his customer service skills were so lacking it made it impossible to try and be nice. He wouldnt give up and I finally had to pull up my address on my phone using my FPL account. He told me I was lucky that he would accept that on my phone. He was the worst counter person I have ever dealt with at a rental car agency. He gave me the keys to the vehicle and when I got out to the vehicles there was no indication of where the car was parked. When I asked the attendant out there he told me to just push the alarm to find it!! I did that and of course we couldnt find it. He finally started looking for it and found it in another aisle and I am sure the vehicle had just been returned because it wasnt in a parking spot. The worst place ever to rent a vehicle. When I returned the vehicle in Ft. Myers I asked the counter person there about the 2nd form of address ID and he told me they dont require that and was appalled at our experience. I believe someone from corporate needs to visit this counter in Ft. Lauderdale and teach them about customer service skills. And if I was the manager there George would not have a job with me anymore. Do not rent from Payless in Ft. Lauderdale unless you carry a light bill or bank statement with you because otherwise they will send you to another rental agency! I dont even want to give them one star but it wont post unless I do. They deserve zero stars. An awful way to end your vacation!

I rented a Kia Sportage.It was clean and had lots of room for luggage.Staff service was friendly and courteous.Overall office facility could be a bit bigger to accomodate more customers.Location at airport is ideal for travellers.I will definately be renting from Payless again.
These guys are awful. added extra TOLL charges to my credit card a few days after I returned the car, they dont answer the phones to clarify me this charges, I returned the car on time, with all features that you ask on the list, Im sure that I dont have any fine. You are charging 250 USD plus my orginal charge, this an abuse to the tourists. Im sure that I NEVER GONNA RENT A CAR IN PAYLESS CAR

Returning the car to this place was horrible. No clear makings with the name of the place and no attendants at the desk for 5 mins. I was about to leave the darn keys on the desk before I miss my flight.
I got a Prius as my 4 day economy rental, which made it even more economical. Booking, pick-up and drop off was a breeze.

I was very displeased with my experience because the man who worked for Payless said he didnt work at Payless even though he was wearing a Payless hat. He finally said he worked at Payless but refused to assist us. Please do not use this car rental company
