Wish I could give zero stars. Picked up our mini van on Saturday September 4. We walked to see the car, but the garage was dark and we could barely see how gross the interior was until we were on the highway. Dont know the last time this van was cleaned. There was dirt and grime on the backs of every seat. The dashboard was dusty. The cup holders in the backseat are sticky, orange, and dusty. We needed to stop and purchase Clorox wipes just to be able to be in the Van. As soon as we noticed, we called the local Avis near where we are staying and the representative said they had no cars available. They suggested we go and get the car detailed, really??? We are in town for a few days and we need to detail the car?? How about giving us a clean van. I have been calling the customer service line everyday for the last 5 days, but the phone just rings and rings. I then tried to call the national number they said they couldnt help me and then transferred me to back to the main queue. Once transferred, the phone rang for over an hour and no one answered.I will never rent Avis again! Last time we rented from Hertz our car came cleaned and sanitized will definitely be going back to them!!

Dedicated line for their “Preferred Plus” members as well as a large number of regular windows for the rest of the customers. The car that I received was spotless and in perfect working order. The complimentary upgrade was also very generous. The whole process from getting into the facility to out the garage in a car was 10min.

First and last time I will ever rent from this company. Picked up a car from the Fort Lauderdale airport. The car was left unclean from the previous renters. Their parking tags remained in the car, along with spilled liquids all down the arm rest. The oil change light was on as well. I returned the car to the location in which I was given a second car. The second car was even more disgusting than the first. This car was left with Tobacco on the seats, finger prints all over the window, ashes in the back seat, used face mask on the floor, and the previous renters parking slips. The car windshield had “wash” written on it which clearly indicates the car was not at all cleaned prior to them renting it out again. The air pressure light has continued to come on and we have had to stop several times to fill the BALD tires. Now the night before I am to check out of my hotel and drive to the airport for my flight I have to waste my vacation time on the phone trying to fix the situation that Avis put me in. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY! They put you in dirty, unsafe cars with no oil, tire tread or tire pressure! Cleanliness and Customer safe is obviously not something that Avis cares about. I would give 0 stars if I could.

I originally got an email stating the space # our rental would be in. When we landed we headed straight to that spot. We got in and made our way to the exit. When we got to the exit the employee at the exit said we were not listed on the rental for that car and we had to go to the preferred counter. She said the employee at the counter could just switch us to that rental and we could stay in that car, but she was not able to do it at the exit. We went to the counter and were very rudely greeted. The woman that helped us was very rude and dismissive. She would not let us stay in that car and scolded me for not checking my email when I landed to see that Avis emailed me about a change in vehicles. She wouldnt let us stay in the car we were currently in and gave us a new number. We put the original car back and went to the newly provided spot #. The car was a mess. It was a Chevy Malibu, but had clearly been in multiple accidents. The cars rear bumper had been hit and was not fully secured to the car body. There were also multiple dings and dents all along the sides and front of the car. The interior of the car also smelled like smoke and had a lot of stains on the interior. This car should not have been rented out to anyone in that condition. The car was also very loud and made some strange sounds while driving. I have been renting with Avis for over ten years, but after this experience, I will second guess going with Avis for my next rental. The car was in horrible condition and the employees were rude.

The vehicle that I picked up was damaged in several locations including a loose bumper and dents. Car was dirty Both inside and outside. I refused to take it so I had to go back inside at almost 1am to find an agent and switch cars. This was a huge inconvenience because I had a long day and I was very tired. I give you guys 1 star because I can’t give you a 0.

From the start of my rental when the gentleman helped me at the preferred desk until the day I returned my vehicle it was all smiles. The day I checked the vehicle out I was in a bad mood due to the passing of my father the gentleman gave me some positive words that lifted me up. Upon the return of the vehicle the two young ladies Sandra and Julia was extremely helpful with informing me on how to fill out a incident report. They all were very helpful and deserves recognition. They made me eager to rent from Avis again.

We stood in line for almost an hour at the Avis counter in FLL. There were 3 stations manded and they were the absolute slowest agents I have ever seen. I am a Southwest Airlines retiree and my guest is still with Southwest and we can tell you that your customer service leave everything to be desired. Once past the counter the almost no English speaking attendant in the garage was just as bad.

This guy helped me get a car during rolling loud weekend at the last minute. I rented a drop top 2020 camero for $560 for three days. It was fun riding in the drop top. He was really nice and being patient the fact it was my first time renting a car from out of town. Thank you. And returning the car was no problem

When we got home with the van it was dirty, we had to wipe everything down and there was food under the seats. While driving the vehicle we noticed the windshield had 2 chips in it. I also noticed the rear tires were bald and the front two were on the way out. Which is why when we were on the highway it was bouncy like it needed to be balanced. And the windshield wipers just smeared the rain. This van was a complete safety hazard and should have never been allowed to leave the lot until it was fixed. This is the second vehicle this summer I rented from avis that had a tire balance problem and bad windshield wipers. Needless to say I and very unhappy and will not be renting from avis unless I am credited some sort of refund for my last rental due to the safety of discomfort we dealt with

My hubby and I had the pleasure of working with Ingrid yesterday after flying from Dallas. My credit available spending balance was short by $2.39, Ingrid waited ever so patiently for us to make arrangements with our credit card company to increase our line of credit. This took about 30 minutes or more. It was an embarrassing position to be in however, she never made us feel less than a top rated customer. We will be back for certain!

They gave me a car with expired registration. Spent 4 hours on the phone on vacation trying to get a solution to my issue. The incompetent agents at the Fort Lauderdale airport never answered the phone. Spoke to 4 customer service managers who transferred me to automated voices. Wasnt able to drive around south Florida like I had planned. Once I returned the vehicle I waited in line for 45 minutes to speak to a manager, who refused to give me any type of refund. I literally spent $4.42 at the gas station to refill the tank of a car I had for 4 days. I will never use Avis again, and I dont recommend them to anyone. I am a preferred member and they treated me with utmost disrespect. To anyone who reads this from Avis, I will get my financial institution to refund my money.

They helped me with an upgrade with a reasonable price and were very friendly, great customer service! We had a great rental car, very comfortable, no problems. Upon return, they were very fast and made sure that we got to check-in for our return flight home. I will definitely use them again and recommend them to my friends! Thank you again!

Arrived early in the morning and picked up my vehicle quick. After driving for for an hour or so, realized that the top of the windshield was cracked. Then when stopping to get gas, noticed other damage to the passenger side of the vehicle. No issues with me driving the vehicle but it wasn’t mentioned in my agreement or by the attendant who gave me the car. I made multiple attempts to call and ensure the damage was already noted but could not reach anyone other then sales who could not help. Now I have to worry if I’m going to have surprise charges on my card after I return it and I’m pretty sure it’s illegal to drive with a broken windshield.

We originally got a car from a different location and it was not driving correctly so we called in and they said to take it to the airport to trade it out. We got the exact same car because we liked the size. After we transferred everything into the new car they gave us this one had a sign saying the tires needed aired. We told the attendant and he asked us to hold on. The manager came over and apologized for the inconvenience and gave us a bigger car that I really like. Helped us move our stuff and we didn’t even have to go inside to the counter again. Very helpful people and quicker than any other car rental place I have been.

NEVER USE AVIS!! I NEVER write reviews unless the service is very good and I want to help the business or its HORRIBLE and people should stay away as a PSA. I rented a vehicle from another location and the clerk told me that the car has a slight smell and to air it out. I basically found out as soon as I got home that the tire had a nail in it. I was told to spend money and fill the tire myself or bring the car back. I called the emergency roadside service to replace the tire and was told by customer service to go to any Avis to replace it. The nearest Avis centre informed me that there are no cars kept on - hand and to go to the airport. I exchanged my car at this airport. By this point it is days later and the smell, by the way, has only gotten WORSE.Exchanging the car was again, easy, however on the road when I adjusted my mirrors for full visibility, I realized that the power mirror does not work. How?! The tires were deliberately over-inflated. I now placed my fourth or fifth call to the customer service line. I wanted to exchange this car as it is not safe and somehow one of the tires is LEAKING. I was LIED TO by customer service that a vehicle was arranged for me at a nearby location, that they had stock and same mid-size and quality. Upon arriving, the clerk told me that nobody ever called, in fact customer service is UNABLE to see the inventory at locations. This Rep was talking out of his behind just to get me off the phone and wasted my time!!!! I went home DEJECTED AND HOPELESS that I spent $1000 on this rental and this is the service I am receiving?? I rented a car for a month and had to stop my travel plans, rearrange my events and SPENT 10+ HOURS ON THIS NONSENSE. The tire is now flat. I am now on hold with roadside assistance AGAIN to replace the second flat tire. THIS IS CALL #7. HOW CAN THIS COMPANY RELEASE SUCH UNSAFE VEHICLES FOR RENT??IF YOU DONT WANT TO HAVE THE WORST EXPERIENCE OF YOUR LIFE, PLEASE AVOID AVIS AT ALL COSTS.

My first vehicle within my reservation was very poor....Mitsubishi SUV....it was dirty, smelly (previous smoker car) and felt like driving a tin car. I exchanged the vehicle for a Ford Edge half way through my rental period and that car was much better. I suggest that any cars that had smokers in them are not given to clients...this is the worst thing you can do and no amount of cleaning and detailing can remove the smell of cigarette smoke.

Overall it was a good experience. I had an issue with my car that I didnt realize until my windshield got dirty. There was no washer fluid! (Its not one of those things you think to check)...then it started to rain and I quickly realized the wiper blades NEEDED TO BE CHANGED! It was very scary driving in the rain with bad blades.

The Sales manager who helped me at the Sunrise location on N. University Drive, Sunrise FL was amazing. This was 5pm on July 3rd 2021. Her and the other attendant were fast and great professionals. I had an issue that they quickly remedied. This issue seemed to be caused by the FLL airport location. The Sunrise location should be commended for excellent service . I like the car. I like the speed of the checkout when I got there. I think they charge too much for the daily insurance and for the SunPass. I brought in the car with an eighth tank of gas and got charged $74 extra. But what made me the most mad was being rushed when I brought the car back into what I would describe as a Avis car return corral. You get there and you have like 30 seconds to get your stuff out. Im not about to yell at a woman while Im with my girlfriend. But I really wanted to because how can you rush me when Im trying to get my stuff! I left my car charger a book that I purchased and a couple of other things. Please find another system or train the employees to be courteous and not rush people when theyre trying to get their stuff out to catch their flights.

To All Potential Customers! Please DO NOT RENT a vehicle from the Avis Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport location. You will get horrible service! The entire staff is rude and the employees who handle the actual return of your vehicle in the garage will steal your personal belongings if left behind! I left my black designer sunglasses on the floor of our rented vehicle. They were ‘Never’ turned in by their employees who take in the return car in the garage area. There are no honest staff members working at this Avis location, only thieves that are hoping you leave your valuables behind, to which they will not turn into management! BE WARE!!! Also, you can never get in touch with a real person on the phone to assist you with lost item!!! I am still planning on trying to contact the actual corporate offices of the Avis company so they are are made aware of the thievery at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Avis location. A bunch of lowlifes, dishonest, pathetic losers. Explains the Company and the type of people they hire!!!

Horrible! They did not have the car I reserved which messed up my entire trip. Hard to put fishing equipment in a mini truck, the cooler was longer than the bed! The purpose of a reservation is to have the reserved vehicle there is it not? Why even take a reservation if you are not going to have the reserved vehicle there? Once I waited 2 hours to get a vehicle I did not want it was absolutely disgusting inside. The sheet of paper that said this vehicle was cleaned by was covered in dirt and grime and clearly had not been replaced in weeks. So, clearly the covid-19 protocols are not being followed and its all just for show. The odometer readings did not match the paperwork, it was off by about 1000 miles. To top it all off the Maintenance Required notification was flashing at me the entire time. I called customer service and they wanted to offer me $30 off my next rental, insulting really. $30 for four days of the worst rental car experience Ive ever had. Save yourself the time and money and go somewhere else.

Terrible experience - my company has a partnership with Avis which is why I used them, but Id rather Uber everywhere than rent from Avis in FLL again. My main issue is with the desk agent that helped us and the outright lies / deception their staff will tell, but even the quality of the cars was poor.Desk Agent:Our flight arrived early - we had a 10:30 reservation and were at the counter at 9:50. As I was signing the forms on the keypad screen, I noticed a price discrepancy, and only after I asked was I told I was getting charged an extra hour (which was almost the same rate as an extra day), but if I return the car at the same time they will waive it (well see if that actually happens). This was red flag #1 that they didnt communicate this directly / let us know that they were adding in an extra hour. Ive also never had this issue with Hertz, National, or Enterprise - when its a short period of time (in this case 30-40 minutes) theyve never added on an extra charge, but at that point we just decided to move forward, and figured we could just return the car earlier to make sure the charge is removed. As we continue to go through the process, were then told that the additional liability insurance is required by law. We were surprised by this but OK if its a REQUIREMENT, then what option do we have? If this happens to you, please push back. Weve just found out that Florida requires rental car companies to carry the liability insurance amount required by law, which means this was an OPTIONAL add-on, and the desk agent here blatantly lied (I dont know if they have quotas or commisions, or what benefit they get from lying, but the staff here is clearly unethical in their tactics). After finding this out, we went back to look at the receipt, and found out they charged us an entire extra day on the liability insurance due to the 40-minute earlier pickup (and we didnt even leave their garage until 30-40 minutes later anyway due to issues with the car!!). Beware with these folks, they truly are not in any way trying to help you.Quality of car:Car seemed fine when we were loading it up, but as soon as we got in, it reeked of smoke. The AC was blasting a smell of mildew and smoke. We got out right away, found one of the attendants in the garage, and explained the situation. I will say the attendant out there really tried to help us, but said they didnt have any other cars available. The only solution provided to us was for the car to be sprayed with disinfectant / air freshener which we declined since it would just be sitting on top of the current smells blasting out of the AC unit. We reluctantly left, extremely disappointed with the front desk lady, and extremely disappointed we had to leave with that car. Do not recommend this location of Avis at all. I hope they improve.

I booked a car at Avis on line site, for 4 days for a reasonable price with exact hours that I needed their car for. When I received a confirmation the time was different. The time I put in was 7:30 pm booking confirmation was 11:30 in the morning. I called customer service right away to fix an issue, spoke with Bethany. She said that by fixing to correct time that I need, it will cost me extra $100 as an all day rent. I told her the price that she is telling me was not what I agreed on and willing to pay for. So, than she told me that she will record it in the system that it will be okay for me to bring the car back at 7:30pm for no extra cost. She said that I should leave car keys in the drop box because it will be after hours. So thinking that everything is taking care of, when we got to the rental, we waited for over an hour and a half to get taken care of. When we finally got someone to help, I proceeded to explain situation to a clerk. He told me that there is no such a thing as a drop box for keys and if I will not bring a car by 12:30 there would be a charge for another full day. Why is one person telling me one thing and on the phone she told me a totally different thing. He was looking at me like I was not telling the truth, Im sure that my phone conversation was recorded, they can always check the info. Well, I did get a bill by email which states that I owe $112 more than what I paid for, very upsetting!

Overall car was good. However, I was charged a $150 deposit despite having used a credit card. In all my experience renting with Avis and plenty other rental car chains, I never heard of such for using a credit card. Typically if you use a debit card there is a deposit. Then the lady at the airport counter didnt even tell me she was charging a deposit...just told me my card declined. The limit on that card was $200. It wasnt until I asked her how much she was trying to charge did she tell me there was a deposit. My rental was only $161.23 for 2 days and they charged 311.29. I asked her about the deposit and she proceeds to give me a break out of the price. I told her I didnt care about that, but why the deposit on a credit card.... never got an answer. I ended up using a different credit card. Also,, Im a preferred member and still had to wait in line.. Whats the reason? Ive never experienced this at any other location.. Normally with preferred you just pick a car in app and go about your day. .I wont rent from this location again...seems like they haggle you anyway they can.

I was disappointed with this rental experience. Though a Preferred customer I had to wait 20 minutes to check in at counter only to discover they didnt have a car - even though reserved and pre-paid. They finally found a car and I went to have it arrive for me 30 MINUTES later! WHY THE DELAY! If I had a reservation they KNEW I was arriving as evident by the many texts they sent. However, NO CAR upon arrival?Check out was extremely easy and the car itself was fine. But the check-in process needs to be better - especially for a PREFERRED customer. I will be rethinking my choices for my next car rental.

My family and I had a very awful experience with picking up the rental at Fort Lauderdale airport. Was schedule to arrive and pick up the rental on 4JUL21 at 1:30 AM. The vehicle was prepaid a month in advance. Once arrived to pick up car at Avis the vehicle was given away to a different customer. My name was on a board that my vehicle was in a slot and also received a text mid flight, that I did not see until I landed to confirm the vehicle I needed and the space I would find the vehicle that was E04 but the vehicle. The customer representative Mr. Daniel G was not helpful at all. Took two hours to finally get a vehicle that I had prepaid in advance to ensure a vehicle would be ready for my family. I was not the only customer that did not have a vehicle ready for them after prepaying for the rental. That is not acceptable.

I did not know you would charge me an additional hour. The charge is too much and not fair. I would understand $10.00 or $15.00 but not $39.00. It was not my fault that the airplane came in earlier. The service and customer help and pick up was great till I saw the additional hourly charge.

Avis falsely charged me a fuel service fee! I refueled the car up less than a mile from the drop off location with 17.576 gallons of gas in a tank that can only hold 19.5 gallons. The receipt claims that I returned it with only 3/4 a tank of gas. This is not the first time this has happened. I called to get it removed and was told that the manager needed to remove it and I was hung up on. called back left my number in the call back que and havent been called back.

This by far is the worst car rental experience I have had in the decades of business and personal travel. First off, this car has almost 32,000 miles on it. There were both interior and exterior cosmetic damages on this vehicle. It would not start and required a jump when we stopped at a highway rest stop to use the bathroom. Then I was falsely charged for more than $20 for not refueling, this is after I stopped to fill up the vehicle on the way to the airport. I have filed a complaint and still yet to heard back from the company.

As a preferred member im very disappointed for what me and my family(2kids and a 18month old) went thru today at FLL location after a long flight you think the car you reserved over a week ago will be there waiting for you and that’s wrong, they overbooked, the big truck that i paid double as if was a regular car wasn’t there, other 20 people was having same issues and even a line at the parking waiting for cars, i have everything recorded and im definitely moving forward this time, it is unacceptable, we are the customers and that is customers rights that corporate needs to follow. My name on the board really? For what? makes no difference when my car isn’t there! If you request a big truck that means you need a big truck, so now what im gonna do with my fishing equipment? Cut in half and make it fit? You guys had not even a longer SUV to offer and the 2 suburbans that was there the lady told me was under contract and couldn’t give to fit a reservation, plus the car i left with was dirty, got everything on camera!! Return with full tank, guy didn’t even open the door and charged me $112 for fuel saying was 25 gallons on receipt instead of 36 wich that car dont even take that much, it is just a horrible location to rent from unbelievable!

Flew into FLL from Newark and had a reservation for a rental set up on a Sunday. 2-3 people working the counters while another employee sat behind the desk in the preferred section where there wasn’t a single customer and ignored a line full of 10-15 people. Took 45 minutes just to get to the counter. We got our paperwork and put down an absolutely asinine $250 deposit which was never mentioned beforehand.We’re then told to go outside in between 2 sections and “look” for a BLUE Toyota Camry. We’re standing outside trying to find the car and it’s not there. I had to flag down one of the dudes outside to ask where the car was because no one even acknowledged we were there and he told us it’s going to be brought out to us. Again no mention of this beforehand at the counter. We’re waiting another 20 minutes before we’re told the Camry is actually BLACK and that it will be another 15 minutes while it’s “serviced”The whole ordeal took almost 2 hours.One of the most infuriating experiences I’ve had traveling. 0/10 would not recommend. Poor communication, slow service, employees who either don’t care or aren’t on the same page...AVOID. The car was in really good shape though. Very clean. Probably the only upside

The agents were absolutely no help and avis messed up my entire plan because the car that I reserved 2 WEEKS prior to my trip was not available when I went to pick it up. We rented a car in Miami, our flights changed and we flew into Ft Lauderdale. This was on Sunday. We called Avis Miami and left several messages. No one called us back. We ended up having to pay for a rental car twice. The Avis in Ft Lauderdale would not honor the fact that we had already paid for a car in Miami and said we needed to work it out with the Miami branch. Still no call back!!

Waited an hour for our van to show up after leaving the rental counter because they were “cleaning it” once it finally showed up all they did was rinse it down on the outside. They did nothing to the inside, food crumbs, and pet hair everywhere, and the windows were absolutely disgusting with finger prints and smudges everywhere. Returned it 24hours later and got charged $200 extra because they claimed I returned it late which is bogus and I got the documents to prove it. But after reaching out to Avis via email they told me to go fly a kite basically. I personally feel like we were ripped off or scammed by Avis. I have been a loyal customer for Avis and budget for years and this is the first time I’ve ever had a problem with them. I know I won’t have a problem with them anymore, because I will never rent from them ever again. What a Terrible way to treat a loyal customer.

Our flight from Minneapolis to Florida was canceled last minute and they put us on a flight the next morning. When I called to let Avis know I would not be there to pick up the car until a day later, I was told I would not have a car rental. They said my reservation would be canceled if I did not pick up the car in 15 hours. I had to pay extra to get a flight to be able to get my car, leaving my family behind to fly in the next day. This experience left me never wanting to rent from Avis again as this is horrible customer service. This situation was not in my control and you did nothing to help me out.

When we arrive in Fort lauderdale, the car we were given has some front end damage.. This then caused us to have to drive with the wheel to the left cause the car waited to go right.. We DID NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE! we were only in Florida for 3 days and I spent 4 hours alone on day one trying to get a different vehicle. I called multiple times to the airport location and no one would answer, called customer service 5 times and road side assistance as well. Each location I was told to go to to get a new vehicle had 0 on hand.. And didnt have the time to go all the way back to the airport and wait 3 hours more. We ended up just ubering places until we had to return it.. The customer service side was a joke. We were down there to do a news segment on my mothers 20 year disappearance from Florida so on top of an already stressful emotional situation this was the tip of the iceberg to keep being given the run around. No one knew what to do it seemed. We tried to make it as relaxing as possible given the circumstances around why we were down there and our experience with Avis car rental was deplorable and ruined our time there... Not only did we spend money on the rental itself, we has to use other car services to get around because the vehicle was not safe to drive.

You had the size vehicle that I needed to support my entire family during this trip and Gas was not as bad as expected. Your prices are cheaper than enterprise rental and I always get a nice ride. The service is faster and much more convenient. I appreciate not having to show a bill or proof of address to rent a vehicle. Im in and Im out.

Worst service ever! Fort lauderdale airport location. The lady at the counter was rude to my mom and my family. We were returning a car and wanted to rent another one more economic and she just wouldn’t help us, when someone came out, I tried to explain the situation and this new lady said she needed to go to the restroom and left us there. There was a small spot were I was waiting and she even told me I had to move and go away. Just a really bad moment we experienced, I feel humiliated :(:(. We decided to go to another rental car agency. For sure not renting here anymore.

Was not the best customer service. I have rented through other car rentals and they had a smoother faster process and got to pick out our own car. Seemed more time consuming. Employees dont know how to communicate well with us to understand when we need help or ask questions. Just wish it was smoother during the stressful time.

I had already booked the rental car. We had to stay in the line For a very long time for about 45 minutes. Very slow agents. When I went to the agent, he said there was only 1 SUV in the same class. When I went to rhe vehicle it was with scratches around. Opened the trunk, the seal around the door was dislodged. I had to go back to the counter and the same agent who told me there wernt any SUVs, except the one he first gave me, gave me a similar SUV that he said he did not have. Very bad experience.

We landed in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday June 13th and proceeded to the Avis counter. The line was long, and there were only 3 Avis representatives working. Often times, a representative would retreat to the back and would not be seen again for a long time. The representatives moved incredibly slowly with no sense of urgency. When walking from one end of the counter to the other they did so at an incredibly slow pace and when communicating with customers they acted as if there was no line in place. Once we finally got to speak to a representative we were told to proceed to a waiting area in the garage where we sat for nearly an hour. Finally we told the employee in the garage to give us any car, we were tired of waiting and we were able to get into a truck and move on. From the time I entered the line until the time I got in a car 2 hours passed. This was incredibly frustrating. I will never use Avis again, and I will actively advise all friends and family to avoid your awful company. Respect travelers time, at the end of a long flight waiting for 2 hours for a car is completely unacceptable and you should be ashamed of yourselves.

I have been using Avis for over 10 years, for the past 4 rentals, my name was not on preference board ( Avis preferred customer)so I had to wait in a long line, because there is always only ONE person at the preferred customer desk in Fort Lauderdale. My last rental (yesterday), the car was not cleaned. Seats had sand on them, not disinfected, not cleaned or washed. I didnt have time to go back inside and wait in a line to tell the counter! However, Avis was sure to get and extra $102 out of me, since I forgot to select the gas option as I normally do. Checking out my other options of rental companies.

The staff was extremely nice and helpful; however, once we got inside the vehicle we noticed that the vehicle was not cleaned very well and more than likely not sanitized. However, we were prepared with our Lysol wipes and spray. Thanks!

Avis disabled the GPS *AND* the car audio, a fact we didnt realize until we were relying on the nonexistent navigation on a busy highway. The system took the destination address but then never updated the map or gave us directions. We called AVIS thinking the system was broken, but AVIS said we hadnt paid for that option. We never noticed that there was such an option when we rented. So... I plugged in my phone to activate Google maps on android auto, but found that the audio prompts had *also* been disabled!! That also meant no listening to podcasts while driving. (A) AVIS should clearly label such hobbled cars to prevent potentially dangerous reliance on disabled systems and (B) should flag this on the original rental screen in clear, big, upfront, honest print. Better still, let us rent the whole car without disabling bits of it!!

I have been a Preferred AVIS customer for my entire career. Over the past several years the service and quality of AVIS has been steadily declining and now is at a point where Im seriously considering moving to another company. For this particular trip, the first car I was assigned had a flat tire. At lease I noticed it and got a different, albeit smaller car. This car had no windshield washer fluid and a filthy inside of the windshield (not uncommon in all AVIS facilities over the past several years), but did the job. Then my return flight was cancelled so I immediately went into the AVIS app and reserved another car. When I took my reservation to the counter I was told that they had no cars available for the past 6 hours and I shouldnt have gotten a reservation. I had no way to know that since the app gave me the confirmation. I ended up sleeping in the airport. Not a happy camper with AVIS anymore. Too bad since AVIS was the leader for so many years.

There was an extremely long wait picking up the car even though I was the 2nd person in line. I could have overlooked that until I had a chance to get a good look at the car I was given. The car itself was a nice car but it was filthy!! The outside looked like it had not been washed at least since the last person had it but probably longer than that. Again, I could have overlooked that, but the inside was also dirty. The car had not been vacuumed and had spills on the doors that Im hoping was coffee. It was so bad I almost paid out of my pocket to take the car and have it cleaned. The worst part is after driving it for 2 days my husband realized the tread was worn flat in the middle of the front tires and needed to be replaced. Ive rented with Avis multiple times before and my company even uses Avis as their preferred service, and I have never received a car in this type of condition. The only reason Im still giving it a 2 is because the car was nice, and this was not my first experience with Avis so Im basing this score not just on this car. Also note it was dark when we picked the car up so we didnt notice any of this until the next morning or we would not have accepted it this way.

The employees seemed much more interested in upselling me on prepaid gas and tolls and not listening to my needs/concerns. Tried to explain charged were to be prepaid third party. Insisted on my card needed to proceed. Ended charging my card instead of the prepaid account. Horrible service there.

Following an issue of misleading customer service where they charged me for gas after telling me that the fuel option was a new service and if I returned the tank full would be removed from my bill, I contacted Avis several times to no avail. After posting a negative review, they contacted me right away and reversed the charge. Although it took a negative review for me to hear back, I appreciate them resolving the issue. The car I rented was in good shape.

Cant seem to talk to anyone in person over the phone anymore. I have sent email and still waiting for response. I am one who likes to talk to an actual person rather than their system. I have better luck going in person than waiting for the NEXT AVAILABLE REPRESENTATIVE, which will never happen.

The only good thing was the nice van we got. The customer service was not good at all, not good communication at all, and tried calling for two days straight about the EXTRA $400 charge 2 days after we returned it. We cleaned the vehicle so it was very clean upon returning and also paid ahead extra for numerous things that weren’t on the agreement when I originally paid. Very unhappy and would 100% not recommend this company.

I prepaid for a reservation with my company discount code, and it was not honored. I was even pre-billed for gas without knowing, and not informed. I need to contact them for a refund since I brought the car back on full. I had to pay an additional $200+ for a rental. I was completely dissatisfied and unsure if I will ever rent from Avis again

Extremely slow service. Waited > 1 hour at 1 am for vehicle. Vehicle smelled strongly of smoke. Was never asked if we had a preference for a non smoking vehicle. Staff had no explanation for delay. Many other customers waiting appeared frustrated, several contacted a supervisor which did not seem to help at all. Kindest explanation would be that they were overwhelmed and had insufficient staff to turn the vehicles around.

Firstly I was traveling in a walking boot and my wife and infant was with me. I was being wheeled through the airport because I couldnt walk. Apparently my suv was ready and my name was supposed to be on a screen but it didnt showed up and I had to wait in line for a while only to be told that the suv was ready and I could have gone straight to it. So I stayed in line for a time that I didnt have to after traveling on a flight that was already delayed. To make matters worse, on the next day of the rental the check engine light came on and I had to return the suv to the airport to get it exchanged. Thank God I wasnt hours away. Its just stressful when you have a wife and infant traveling you want to make sure that they are safe. This is my first time with avis and it wasnt pleasant. Also, no one answers the phone at this location.

The service engine soon light was on when we first got the vehicle. The lady at the gate told us they had no more rentals so wed have to keep ours. It was also not very clean outside and smelled funny inside. It had a bad tire noise in the back. The radio kept turning off and on while driving. Upon departure, I was charged $110 from gas even though I had asked upon arrival to prepay for gas. I had time so I went to the counter to have it corrected. Not a great 1st time experience with this rental company.

Two times now in last 4 months they tried to charge me $90 for gas when i return car with full tank. Sat on phone for hour waiting to clear this up. No voucher, account credit or apology for my wasted time. Also as a preferred member they made me wait in line for over an hour to pick up vehicle when i should have been on their reservation board. Reservation was for a convertible mustang, but got a corvette. Car definitely could use a really good cleaning. I dont know if circumstances do you do the prepay for fuel, they charge you for more gallons in the vehicle actually holds. They also tell you that if you turn it full theyll just refund you your money. But forget to tell you that you have to wait in line to get your refund along with everybody else thats there to rent a car and return a car. The longest line in the entire airport is at the car rental place.

I was greeted rudely I had a reservation and because my father was in a wheelchair at the airport and I went to pick the car up lady took the rate from me and gave me an outrageous rate because my dad wasnt with me. Unfortunately the car smell like smoke. The car is not clean. And it had streeks and bird dropings all over the car the windows are down that allowed the seat to be moist. And immediately I tried to call customer service which went straight to voicemail. And when I return the car and waited for a manager and then waited to catch the shuttle I end up missing my flight. Our flight was delayed and i arrived at fort lauderdale airport at 2:00 am with 5 children. The line for the company i booked with was 4 hours long and they had no cars left, large enough for my family. The line at avis was shorter and Daniel G was great. He found us a minivan and beat the price i was quoted by the original company by 6$

Right off the bat,, I was given the wrong vehicle (Cadillac Escalade). The wrong vehicle I was given would have been perfect being that I had 4 additional people with me. When I went to the desk, the desk attendee (not the original person that checked me in, she was pleasant) had an attitude and made a smart remark because I asked to keep the vehicle I was given, which was the wrong vehicle. I believe she was a supervisor or manager but Im not 100% sure. I was given a Subaru Forester which didnt have enough room for the 5 of us.
