I’ve been going to Rays to get a trim from Nick since before I graduated college. Even now, living down in Scottsdale I will find any excuse to come back to flag and get my haircut from Nick. Nick is the epitome of a professional barber. Not only does he take his time and most likely know your hair better than you, he is extremely personable and can relate to just about anyone and anything. It’s hard for me to put into words the quality and treatment you will receive when Nick is cutting your hair but I will say good luck finding anything close to comparison. All good things are worth waiting for, sometimes Nick isn’t immediately available but waiting is a very small sacrifice for what you will receive. All in all, Nick is the man and will always have my business!

Nick is the best gentleman barber I’ve ever been too just sit back and relax. He is very focused on quality very professional, and you can even make an appointment before the shop opens up he will give you a cut on his own time! You can’t find a barber like that! I NEVER write reviews, but my experience with Nick the Barber at Rays Barber Shop this morning compels me to share. I am 75 years old and started patronizing Rays about 20 years ago (when it was located next to Macys). When my favorite barber, John, left to move to Tucson two or three years ago I started going to Super Cuts. To make a long story short, the quality of the haircuts at Super Cuts was uneven and I recently received two real bad haircuts there.I decided to go back to Rays this morning on the off chance that my old barber, John, had returned from Tucson. Although John was not there, there was one barber working. When I came in there was one guy in the chair and two more were waiting. I decided to sit down and wait my turn.While I was waiting I was watching and listening to Nick the Barber who now owns Rays. Nick moved to Flagstaff three years ago after cutting hair in San Francisco including many celebrity haircuts.I was amazed by the passion and artistry that Nick displayed (as well as the quality of the haircuts that he gave to the three guys ahead of me). It was clear to me that this guy totally cares about his work and prides himself on giving his customers the very best haircut possible.Each of the three haircuts before me were different styles and done beautifully (in my opinion). Nick gives more than ample time to each of his customers so the wait can be on the longer side. Fortunately Nick takes early morning appointments for those who cant afford the time to wait.The first man waiting for a haircut when I came in was an older gentleman who had waited a while to receive his haircut. After he left, his wife came back into the shop to compliment Nick on the job that he did and to tell him that the wait for her husbands haircut was well worth the time.By the time my turn rolled around I was essentially sold and my haircut did not disappoint. In short, Nick the Barber is the single best barber I have ever had. I hope he sticks around Flagstaff for a long time. By the way, the lively non stop conversation further enlivens the experience.

Nick’s been cutting my hair for about a year and half. His first haircut was the best I had ever gotten and since then I’ve thought the same thing about every cut he’s given me. He’s consistent, pays attention to the little details, easy to talk to, and keeps me looking dapper.

Nick is one of the best barbers Ive ever seen. He gets to know his customers and takes the time to get everything perfect. That being said, he is in high demand, so sometimes there is a long wait or hell ask you to come back another day. I dont take that as rude...its his way of telling you he values your haircut and refuses to rush just to roll more customers through. Despite losing Jonathan and Las, Nick is holding down the fort and continuing to deliver top-quality classic haircuts. I almost dont want to leave this review because it could make the wait longer, but I will still drive 90 miles from my home because I will not get a better haircut anywhere else!

I would get the same style every 2-3 weeks, and he would always remember me, and stayed consistent in the hairstyle I get. Nicky’s back! So glad that I don’t have to look for another barber.I love Nicky’s personality and what he does with those clippers and scissors.I’m a woman who’s been wearing her hair short and fuss-free. I usually go to barbers because I feel they do a better job with short hair, maybe that’s just perception. Nicky is fast, detail oriented (i.e., left side of my head matches the right side; trust me, been there, seen that), asks questions, and listens.

I’ve been in twice now and I got different hair styles each time and both styles looked really really good. Nice and clean, all of the barbers are very social, makes the environment relaxing. They take time to make sure you get exactly what you want, and best of all they do really good work. I highly recommend coming here and I personally will be coming back each month and it’s hard for me to find a barber I can trust.

Nick is the best barber in Flagstaff, and maybe all of Arizona. The first time he cut my hair, I was looking for a barber because I was going to celebrate my 21st birthday in Vegas and wanted to look fresh. He spent an hour and fifteen minutes to make sure he got it right. It looked so good when he was done that I got a ton of female attention in Vegas which, before going to Nick, I was not really known for. I went back to him, of course, and he remembered my name and face and was able to give the same amazing haircut in less time because he really concentrates and makes an effort to become familiar with his customers and their hair. He has taken over most of the responsibilities at Rays Barber Shop since the owner passed away a month or so ago, which is sad, but Ray has left his shop in really great hands. Nicky the barber does the best classic cuts in town. When I moved to Flagstaff in 2017 I got my first cut from him and have been going back to him ever since. Best Barber around for classic style haircuts.

I have lots of fine straight hair with two cowlicks. Most barbers have a tough time getting it right. Both Nick and John do a superb job!!! I highly recommend Ray’s Barber Shop!!!

Nick is hands down the best barber Ive ever dealt with. I typically dread getting haircuts because they always mess it up but he cut it in a way I didnt even know was possible. I have awful cowlicks and he actually fixed it so they dont bother me. Never using any barber but Nick from now on. Oh and the beard trim was on point as well!

This place has a welcoming atmosphere. I got a really good haircut for a really great price. My barber Johnathan did a fantastic job. This was the first time at a barber, that I went to that used a traditional straight blade razor. The owner and other staff are really friendly. It is a short walk away from the north side of NAU. Walked in, only one man was cutting hair, had 2 customers waiting. Since he had never cut my hair before, told me I had to come back tomorrow. Guess getting new customers is not a value there. Other barbers no coming in til the day after. Why even have a business or be open?

Ive been going to Rays off & on for the past 8 years and could not be happier having Nicky as their new barber! I honestly feel like Ive not had a bad haircut from any of them, but Nicky is my go-to.Hes helped me find a cut/style that I like and cuts to what my hair & headshape needs. Hes the first barber to ever set me up with a plan and he takes his time to get it right. Haircuts from him also keep longer! I can easily go 3-4 weeks without a cut and it still looks good since its blended properly.Hes willing to come in early or stay late to fit me in - since I live 1.5 hour drive away from Flagstaff. He listens to what I want but also gives suggestions (trust the pros)!*leave a decent tip, everyones trying to make a living and $14 for a cut is cheap!

When i moved to flag back in may of 19 i was looking for a new barber in town and discovered rays barber shop, i first sat down in nickys chair and the rest is history, i’ve never had a barber like nicky he educated me on how to keep my hair looking good and even gives me tips and products that he recommends, 5 out of 5 stars for this shop you should definitely come see nicky

It was mentioned that walk-ins welcomed cash-only basis...w.t. heck upgrade to reality its a college town & 5G LTE is here! My recommended advise...stop your relying on cash because Im going to pay you in pennies to prove my point, waste my time Ill waste yours! Atm machines cost me $ & time. It gets better one olde barber Sal (the Owner) has a sign that you can only see after your commitment has already taken place...call ahead to get all your questions answered before you go!

Its hard to find a real barber shop anymore. They are local and not a chain. Its two barbers doing a great job.

My traveling companion received a great cut here, and the owner--the late Rays co-founding partner--entertained with many short stories.

Got there whenough he was going on lunch and he told me it was goin to be 1 hour until he got back. I came back in an hour and a half. He was still not there. A half hour later he showed up and walked in without saying anything. 5 minutes later an old woman came to the door and held up 3 fingers which Im assuming meant come back at 3 because I waited another 15 minutes, and still nothing. Ill never go back. Why would you tell someone to come back in an hour when you take a 3 hour lunch break?

Make sure to call for business hours beforehand for this place gets a lot of customers all year around. Is located a few blocks from NAU and theres plenty of cutting hair for men and women alike. Plenty of parking for small car and trucks.
