The vibes atmosphere of the coffee place was super chill and cool! Placed looked clean. My only complaint was it took a very long time to get my coffee. There was not that many customers at the time while I was there. After some observation I noticed two baristas. One was in the register and the other one cooking an making coffee. Please hired a chefs/cook that will handle the food portions and let the barista handle all coffee. Order an Americano and Honey lavender latte, perfection!

I havent had coffee here, but Val gives a great haircut. This would rate 5 stars with me if it were not for the reality that you can not reach anyone by phone. They insist you use the internet and that is just lacking in the truest sense of customer service.

Chill in door/out door location. Sit and drink some tea with treats (vegan/gluten free options♡), get a haircut that is on point 👏 fabulous. Cant wait to go read a good book and enjoy in this lovely environment ☆

Excellent. Ive been to lots of different salons over the years and this one is my favorite. Just a really great experience from a very knowledgeable and gracious staff. The salon/coffee lounge is gorgeous and definitely worth stopping by.

Be mindful if youre coming here for the first time because as of writing this Google hasnt updated their maps location, you would turn away from the campus and towards downtown (turn right onto S San Francisco from E Butler instead of left).Great place and staff and a nice spot to hang out at for sure.

Ive looked decades for a barber/styler that could groom my hair and beard correctly and Vals is the first Ive found from the east to west coast.....and a boutique, designer coffee shop at the entrance where could relax before your styling, or just enjoy by itself...get out of here! This is the perfect marriage between small town and metropolitan without sacrificing the richness of each.

I deleted my old review so I could post a new one. I said it once, that Vals is the best barber in town, but I feel like maybe I understated just how much I meant that. I feel like I cant say it loud enough. Even though the new place is only in its soft opening stages, it is exactly what Flagstaff needed. I went in today for a haircut with the new talent Val hired and A.J. surpassed any of my expectations. Val has succeeded in finding new barbers that, not only give great haircuts, but you can tell that it is their passion. He has created a cool and comforting atmosphere that makes me want to hang out longer. Once the coffee bar opens in the front of this place I can see that happening even when Im not in for a haircut. I cant wait to see what the future holds for this place!

Nicky is everything you need in a professional barber. His instincts are absolutely on point and his skill set is extensive; you can see it in his movements. Val’s is clean, gorgeous, relaxing and comfortable. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a genuinely professional quality barbershop. Where did everyone go?! I thought I had finally found a good barber in town! My wife and I each had booked appointments for this past weekend, but received a vague text a few days before that our appointments had been canceled. We walked in later on that day anyway and were told the young barber couple in the back salon were no longer working there. We also leaned that our favorite baristas had left as well! Very disappointing, the building was built beautifully, but the feel of the space is definitely off now. So much potential. Shame

The first time I went to Val I was very impressed, finally I found a great barber in flag. The more I went however, the worse the service and quality of the cut were. Between Vals narcissistic personality (just read his description of himself on his website) and mediocre haircuts, myself and friends stopped returning. But then Val hired two new barbers. AJ gave me one of the best haircuts I have ever received. I go to make an another appointment and it seems that Val is now the only barber at the location again. AJ if you are out there please let me know where you are working now. The place is nice and it had a lot of potential, but now with just Val cutting hair I would not recommend. Traveling to phoenix continues to be one of the only options for quality cuts.

Aj is the best barber I’ve ever had. He is very talented at his craft and he takes the time in detail that should be done on a haircut. You can tell he really cares about his craft rather than just a “get the haircut done and get out” type of mentality. He takes his time and it’s appreciated. He also has great conversation with his clients and keeps us laughing. Great place to go!

Be careful when booking an appointment as times are quoted in MST, but as any Arizonan would know, we fluctuate between two time zones. Have had this issue adversely affect me both ways- showing up too early and canclled/missed appointments.

Great new coffee shop, offers a very calm atmosphere and sources coffee locally from Firecreek Coffee. You can even get your haircut if you want by some very talented and impressive barbers. Definitely recommend stopping in.

I used to go to Val’s when he was a single chair barbershop in the back room of his house and man, can I say, what a glow up!If you haven’t tried his new location up the block, it’s phenomenal. I can’t express how amazing his new shop is. It’s still Val’s, but on a new scale. Clean, modern, cozy but a huge space. Their new espresso bar is open for business, the drinks are great, they just got in pastries. Such a great place to chill for a drink.They have a new colorist/stylist, Jordann who is sweet and amazing, and AJ, a professional barber. Even if you have to wait, the space is so inviting, that you don’t even care. Haircuts are reasonably priced. I’m from the city and this is on par with a $40-50 cut for men and an $80 + cut for women. Definitely try it out. It’s something that has been missing from Flagstaff.

I just went for a walk-in and met Val for the first time. Hes a really positive dude and was happy to help me. The cut was quick and just what I wanted (maintaining a mullet). Its always nice leaving a barber shop satisfied.

AJ is the man, and I really mean it. My brother in law’s recommended this place and I owe them for it. It is usually hard to vouch for someone when they offer a service as variable as hair cutting, but I can’t recommend AJ enough. He knows what he is doing, and is a super down to earth to talk to. I’ve always procrastinated on getting my haircut but since going to this barber, I genuinely enjoy getting my haircut now.

So happy to have heard about the new couple working at Vals Workshop. My husband and I decided to give them a try since we really havent been happy with the cuts weve been getting in town lately. The stylist, Jordann, just gave me the best cut and color that Ive ever had. No one has been able to style my curly hair like she did. I kind of let her decide what to do with my color and she dialed me right in. My hubby got a quality haircut from a real barber. AJ was super friendly and definitely knew his stuff. It was the first time my husband had ever gotten a straight razor shave and he loved it.I almost didnt want to write a review because Im pretty sure these two are going to become pretty popular.

I really hate to be THAT guy—but the shop simply isn’t the same at the new location at Benton and San Fran. Poor standard of service, volume of customers/haircuts prioritized over individual quality. Unless you’re getting a cut from Val himself, be prepared to be disappointed.

Should probably say that the barbershop portion is closed on Sundays and Mondays and not have the Capability of booking an actual appointment online…. We showed up and nobody even greeted us or told us while we were sitting in the barbershop portion for 25 min that it was closed. Thanks !

Probably the coolest shop I have been in from New York, to Utah, to AZ. I got my first cut from AJ and he did a stellar job. Great fade and evened me out on top. My hair grows incredibly wild and it is hard to get it even on both sides and haven’t had much luck until now. Great job AJ.Definitely recommended this place and to have AJ clean you up.

DO NOT GO HERE! I called in advance to ask if an undercut with a small design was a service I could receive at Vals. I was assured that it would be simple and easy to do. When I went to get my hair cut the following week the gentlemen cutting my hair didn’t section it correctly and cut a substantial amount of hair that was not supposed to be cut. Not only that but he never said anything about it, he let me pay and walk out as if nothing was wrong. It wasn’t until I got home and noticed that I was missing a large section of my hair that I returned to Vals to get my money back. He attempted to fix his mistake, but I’m still left with a horrible haircut that will take AT LEAST a year to grow back. This was the worst experience I have ever had!

If you want a Percision fade I highly recommend AJ, literally his cuts are perfection. Super chill dude with positive vibes.

Had to write this after seeing someone mention he was safest during pandemic. I went to Val for about a year before pandemic, but after it hit, I went in with a mask on, and he said, You dont have to wear that in here man. Made things awkward, and I havent been back. Cut is fast, but not detailed.

Probably my favorite haircut I’ve ever had. Val gets it! I was hesitant to go to a barbershop for a haircut (I’m a woman with long hair) but am so glad I did! He skips the wash (prefers to cut dry which is honestly so much better) and you don’t have to wait around (or pay) for a blow dry. You’ll be in and out within 20 min for $20! Can’t beat it, I’d recommend to anyone. My husband also got a cut here and raves about it.

Exceptional experience. I needed a haircut last minute and dropped in. He got me in almost 15 minutes after I walked in. His work was quick, clean and concise and he gave me the the exact look I was going for, and even improved upon it. The room is charming, with a cozy/sleek aesthetic...and his demeanor was very approachable, kind, and unpretentious. Showed up for my appointment at 1020 for a 1030 slot. Took the guy ahead of me, who was a walk in, then asked if I had my dates right and asked me to wait. I made my appointment 2 weeks ago. Wont be back. Hard to find a professional good barber here.

I was unsure of what style to do but had a general idea, Val was very patient with my haircut and made sure I liked the look every step of the way.

Its a great shop, great cut, and just the vibe I like for an efficient yet thorough cut from a local business who earns every dollar I pay him. Youve just gotta come in once and youll see. Definitely make an appointment though, because the secret is out!Original review July 2019: My first visit to Vals Workshop far exceeded my expectations. I travel a lot and end up getting haircuts at barber shops all across the country. Im in Flagstaff most of the summer and badly needed a cut, and saw Vals sign while stopping in at the bar next door and decided to look him up. Booking online is a huge plus for me. The appointment itself was great. His shop is small, but decorated well and comfortable. I didnt feel that I was in a side room of a house (which is what it is), so hes done a great job carving this space out. The haircut and beard trim were exactly what I asked for, and Val wanted to make sure I was satisfied before walking out the door. Val also wanted to teach me more about how to maximize the style of cut he was giving me, and I appreciated the information. Overall, it was a great experience, and Ill definitely be back for a neck trim and another cut very soon.

Val is great. My hair was long from not having it cut forever. I took a gamble and said to just do something professional looking and not make it look like I am trying to hide my hairline. He worked magic and I am very happy. Did all scissor work instead of just clippers which I really liked. True professional with years of experience that was obvious.

Awesome hair cut!! Val is great at what he does, attentive to what you want and to little details that make a great cut outstanding. Atmosphere is great. Cost is the same as you would pay at some chain whack shop. Cant wait for the bigger shop to open across from the NAU soccer fields. Hes a great barber, and shared his backstory too, of how he formerly worked in San Diego, wanted a change, heard great things about Flagstaff, so moved. Had Flagstaff not worked out, he was prepared to keep going to Colorado. Their loss is Flagstaffs gain!

Aj is the best

I havent had my hair cut professionally in 6 years - Ive just been doing it myself. This place is the only place I trust to do it now. I was really nervous, since its been a while since Ive been in a chair getting my hair cut, but Val made it comfortable, and was talkative and communicating what he was doing with my hair the entire time. I walked out of there with not much hair taken off, but a very different shape that looks a lot better on me.I honestly dont think Im going to go anywhere else in Flagstaff to get my hair done, and after this, Im definitely not doing it myself anymore.

Nobody I trust more to trim my beard and shave my head.
