TL;DR — amateur hour, stay awayPrima Donna plumber who wouldn’t clean up after himself tracking water all over the house. Made it clear through facial expression/ body language/ snide comments that he didn’t like us taking 90 seconds to clean what he should have. Didn’t drain old hot water heater completely because he was in a rush. As a consequence, it was so heavy that he had to use a dolly to get it out denting hardwood stairs in the process. Hooked up hot and cold water lines to the new hot water heater backwards. We had to point that out to him. Charged us extra to move pipes since the expansion tank would not fit. Even though that was out of scope we accepted the additional charge because we had no other choice. In the process of reversing the hot/ cold lines he jarred the copper lines on our boiler so violently that we thought he might destroy the integrity of our other copper-solder connections. The resulting angle of the hot/cold fix was so bad you could see the stress on one of the 90 degree elbows. He was prepared to walk away thinking that was fine. We insisted that he take out a section of pipe to reduce the angle. He attempted three different times to solder wet copper, which, of course, never works. He ended up having to use a Shark Bite, which he should have used to begin with. Lastly, when we asked him how often the anode rod should be replaced he looked at us like he had no idea what we were talking about ultimately telling us that should be every four years (correct answer is two or more often depending on the quality of your water, according to the manual, which he handed to us). There are a lot of good plumbers in this area— choose wisely. Hope this helps.

BlueStar Air Mechanical Inc is a great company. I have used them 3 times. I had duct cleaning last week and had a great experience. The two techs arrived at the time window I was told. When they arrived they explained the whole process as I had never done duct cleaning in my home before. I will be sure to use them again and will definitely be calling them this summer when my new home is ready. The other two times I have used them were for HVAC problems. I called the owner since he is a long time family friend. His team quickly responded and called me right away to schedule the service. The best prices and amazing Service! My heat stopped working for a few hours yesterday, but I was eventually able to get it to come back on. I put in a request for maintenance to hopefully avoid losing heat in the middle of winter again - and received a response in just 9 minutes to schedule a next-day appointment. Diego from BlueStar was able to come out at noon today and check it out. Unfortunately the heat stopped working again around 2, but Diego was able to come back and get it working again around 3:30! AND BlueStars service prices were about 30% lower than the quotes I received from other companies in the area.

This is my third year as a client with Bluestar. They replaced my old facilities (HVAC & water heater) with new units last year. As long as we are in the DMV area, I will continue to be a client with Bluestar. Their service, professionalism, punctuality, quality of work, communication, responsiveness and affordability is A+. Each Bluestar person who has come to our home has been warm and friendly. The team has taken the utmost precautions for the pandemic and I felt safe (I have a 1 year old) with them in the house. Dont think I can give a more glowing review than five stars all across the board. From the owner, to the technician, to the main customer service person, Lyn (especially Lyn), a very friendly staff which delivers a high quality of service at a reasonable price. The flexibility in accommodating customers needs, focus on workmanship rather than when theyll receive payment, and other aspects of their customer service are absolutely unparalleled. If all other businesses behaved like the Blue Star team, many online businesses such as Yelp and Google Reviews etc. would go out of business or be redundant (since everyone would be getting 5 stars across the board).

We recently had our furnace/ac replaced by BlueStar Air Mechanical. Were pleased with how the system is working so far, but the customer service hasnt been the best.- They gave us a 2 hour window (8-10am) for their arrival, but didnt arrive until 10:30 and didnt communicate with us to let us know theyd be arriving late. This was the least worrisome mishap.- Their measurements of our HVAC closet were incorrect so the equipment they told us theyd install didnt fit..- When replacing our thermostat, they left dark marks/fingerprints on the wall and didnt bother cleaning it up.- They didnt bring all the equipment necessary for their scheduled day-long time slot, so my husband and I had to cancel our weekend plans so they could return and finish up work that should have been done in their first eight-hour appointment.- They left a few deep/permanent scratches on our floor.We called the main office to complain about the above items and they gave us a slight discount, which was a kind gesture - BUT - its not even enough to get someone out to replace our floor.So, moral of the story is that they installed a new system which was of good quality, but they didnt do a good job AT ALL proposing a remedy when they messed up. My husband and I are both architects, so we understand how to work with contractors and make a project run smoothly. Were also generally pretty easy-going and understand how to make a project work when initial ideas/design arent going as planned. This has been a terrible experience. Would not recommend BlueStar Air Mechanical.

Great service and people! Everything about the process was quick and easy. They were able to come out and do the estimate (while providing a discount none the less) and even dropped off a portable AC unit for us to use until our unit was installed. Furnace ignitor recently went out and with two little ones at home I wanted to be sure to have the defective part replaced in a timely and professional manner. Upon the BlueStar mechanics arriving to my residence on time, they were true professionals - wearing booties before stepping into the residence. Not only did they take the time to address the ignitor issue, they also explained the furnace system as a whole, pointing out other aspects of the furnace that may need addressed in the near future given the current age of the furnace. I consider myself having high standards and BlueStar definitely met them. Lastly, would recommend them to anyone in the Northern Virginia area needing heating/cooling services as I will definitely be using them again.

BlueStar Air Mechanical, Danny and Diego came to my rescue as I was getting a new roof (shingles) installed on Friday. On Monday, I called the company that installed our furnace, but they no longer did residential work. I called BlueStar because of the positive review comments on Tuesday afternoon. I explained my situation and Danny said, he would do his best to help me out. Diego came to my home and took measurements on Tuesday evening. Wednesday was Veterans Day and I worried a little if they would be able to find the right ventilation piping. The curve-ball came when the roofing contractor called Thursday at noon, and said they wanted to start this afternoon. I called Danny and told him the situation and he said they had just located the correct ventilation piping in Maryland and it would be in his shop a little later and they would be able install it that evening. The service I received from Blue Star Air was beyond exemplary. Our A/C broke a few days before Memorial day weekend and we had a party scheduled. Danny came out on Friday morning and examined our system, provided a quote, and was all around extremely professional.We got lucky and the technicians were able to come out the next day (in time for our party) and install a brand new heat pump. They were also extremely professional. They protected the entire walking area with plastic so they didnt damage the floor. Excellent service! Our AC stopped working during hot weather outside - 94F and it was 85 inside. We called BlueStar Air and Randehl arrived shortly. He was very efficient and friendly. Most what I valued is his honesty - there was just a minor issue, he said, which was fixed right away. We contacted five contractors for HVAC replacement; most of them were interested in selling us equipment, especially equipment we didnt need. BlueStar was one of two companies that spent more than 10 minutes analyzing our existing system and made recommendations based on their analysis. Danny from BlueStar discouraged us from buying the more expensive equipment because our duct work would offset any benefit from the upgraded features. Further explanation and a Google search backed up his analysis so we were convinced. He also suggested moving our thermostat as well as replacing our 20-year-old vent cap with a much more efficient and less obtrusive one. All that was included in a very reasonable price; although price wasnt our sole reason for choosing BlueStar. This company is responsive, thorough, and competent. We are very happy with our decision and our new system - highly recommend BlueStar!

I have nothing but great things to say about Danny Ruiz & his team. I called BlueStar to see if I could get a cheaper quote to replace a warrantied coil (which went bad at only 5 years of age), & even though he doesnt typically work on Trane systems Danny not only did all the leg work & set things up with Trane to get a replacement coil but also did the repair/replacement work for several hundred dollars less than the original quote I received from another company. Diego, the technician, was very nice and professional, and completed the job in a timely manner. I will definitely be recommending BlueStar to all my friends!

Danny was extremely quick in his response to my situation (dead heat pump). He didnt try to sell me anything that I didnt need. Knowing that I am probably one of the more frugal customers and that I did a ton of research before having my unit replaced, he worked with my concerns and was very patient with all my questions. My yard was a muddy mess after the rainstorms, yet he and his helper, Diego, did not track a single bit of mud into my house. We reviewed a range of options and the pros and cons of various models specific to our townhouse. Once we zeroed in on equipment choices, we compared their upfront cost estimate with other vendors options and found Bluestars estimate to not only be lower than other comparative quotes, but the equipment grades & ratings were higher, and the available installation date much sooner than anyone else. We chose Bluestar and they followed up right on schedule. The installation crew was top-notch, the equipment was installed very professionally, and everything was thoroughly tested before job completion. You will NOT find a better company…I 200% guarantee it!!!!Background: New-born baby just arrived to our home, heat-wave, in-laws in town, 5 grown adults and 16 month old crammed into a 2 bedroom condo, and our HVAC & refrigerator just died…and I’m out of town on business travel…when it rains- it pours.We already had two contractors do a walk-through plus estimates and BlueStar was the last vendor. I randomly picked them via google search and they were a Godsent!!!Without asking any questions/walk-throughs etc, Randehl’s immediate concern was the temperature of the house especially b/c of the new-born baby and how crazy/uncomfortable my family looked sitting in a 88 degree house! His first step was to pump “whatever-whatever HVAC stuff” into the unit to cool us down and offer immediate relief for a day or two…we had a 10 year old unit and the coils were leaking.Unknown to me at the time, he didn’t charge us a dime. I am SO grateful I decided to get another opinion for my AC unit and found BlueStar Air Mechanical on Yelp.TLDR: I messaged them on Yelp and they gave me a quote the same day, promptly scheduled my appt, came out and fixed what I identified from a previous diagnostic then explained to me how the main issue was misdiagnosed, cleaned my unit, did some additional routine maintenance and gave me an air filter, all for a FRACTION of the price everyone else quoted. The level of professionalism and courtesy from everyone I spoke or worked with at BlueStar Air Mechanical was top notch and I HIGHLY recommend them. I’ve already marked my calendar to call them again for future routine maintenance and I’m recommending them to everyone I know in the area.When we turned on the AC, the air coming from the vents wasn’t cool. I found a coupon for a company to come out and do a diagnostic and they identified 3 things and offered to fix them for nearly $600 on top of the cost of the diagnostic. I hopped on Yelp and messaged 4 companies requesting a quote for the 3 issues. 2 companies responded that they needed to come do their own diagnostic and wouldn’t give me a quote over the phone. 1 company called me and quoted nearly $1000 to fix the 3 things, + their pricey fee just for coming out, + more costs if the unit needed freon and chaching, chaching, chaching...in the midst of all those messages I had a couple quick responses from BlueStar Air Mechanical with a quote that was a fraction of the price from the original guy and appointments to come out within the next two days. I called and spoke with a lovely young lady to schedule my appointment and I was all set.Fast forward to my appt on 8/10/2018. I live in VA and was running late from a client in DC. I missed all the phone calls from the Technician who was already at my house. I called BlueStar Air Mechanical and that same lovely young lady told me the appt window was mine and the Technician would wait for me. He absolutely did and turns out my Tech was Randehl, the owner of the company! I told him the 3 issues and he went right to work looking over my AC unit outside and checking on things inside. Then he schooled me on the actual issue (turns out the original guy didn’t tell me the whole truth) and taught me a thing or two about drain lines, emergency switches and drain pans. Thanks Randell. Because my unit hadn’t been serviced in ever, he handled the 3 issues, cleaned my unit, did some additional routine maintenance, gave me a new air filter so I didn’t have to go out and buy one and STILL only charged me a fraction of the quote from the original guy. I was lucky enough to have someone refer me to BlueStar Air Mechanical when my AC started acting up. The home warranty company confirmed that it was busted, but their mechanic was unreliable.After contacting a couple of other companies and having high quotes, I contacted Danny at BlueStar. The next morning (on a Saturday, nonetheless) I met Rhandel who quickly gave me a quote to replace my HVAC system (furnace and condenser). Rhandel was very nice and thoroughly explained my options.My home has two HVAC systems, so he also added a quote for the second system (which was on its last legs, too). The systems recommended were upgrades to what I had (increasing 1/2 ton on each system). To accommodate this, BlueStar included extra ductwork for me so that my house could accommodate.We met on a Saturday, agreed on a price on Monday, and everything was installed on a Thursday. They sent two crews and these guys worked hard for 12 hours straight to make sure both units were completed that day.I was very happy with their pricing and service. What can I say, BlueStar Air is simply the best HVAC company in the DMV!! Im a new home owner and encountered an issue where I needed to get one of my HVAC units replaced. I spoke to several companies but felt they were just trying to upsell me on additional products and make a quick buck. Danny from BlueStar, worked with me to understand everything about my old system and gave me serval reasons why it needed to be replaced. He also provided me several options on a replacement at 3k less than the other competitors. These guys worked through the rain to install my new system. They went above and beyond my expectations. When my second unit needs to be replaced I am calling BlueStar again.

I read the reviews on Yelp before contacting BlueStar, and because the reviews were so good, I decided to give them a call. I was not disappointed. They always responded to my emails within a few hours, and typically less than 1 hour, or with an immediate phone call. I had originally contacted another company and they told me my evaporator coil was leaking and needed replaced. I decided to get 3 quotes. Randel from BlueStar quoted me a price to *replace* the entire indoor unit that was cheaper than the other 2 companies prices to *repair* the old system. Randel responded to my email inquiry the same day, surveyed the system the same day, and gave me a quote the same day. You cant get any better than that!After getting a positive response to some details the next day (Saturday) about integration with the outdoor heat pump, I asked BlueStar to proceed with the installation. A day was set and Diego arrived on Thursday at my house and proceeded to remove the old unit and install the new unit. His work was very professional, silver sealing tape was used to make the duct work air tight. He even tested the existing humidifier which was not part of the job. Prior to installing refrigerant, Diego pressurized the system and waited for 2 hours to make sure there were no leaks. A custom made duct connector was used to connect the new unit to the existing return air duct. Diego also cleaned up afterwards so the installation area was left clean and tidy, Diego is very talented (I saw him carrying down a blow touch at one time) and did a great job with the electrical wiring and PVC drain pipe.I am extremely happy with the results and with the service that was provided. In less than one week after contacting BlueStar, my new indoor unit was up and working and my house is cool again. Randel knew exactly what I needed, quoted a great price, and had a great staff to back him up (Danny at the office followed up with the written agreements so kudos to him as well). Diego also informed me that I get 1 year of free maintenance, so he would see me in the Fall. BlueStar is now my new AC service company. What a great choice this was! BlueStar gets my highest rating.

I called Blue start because my HVAC was not working. It wasnt heating my home and I had an 11 month old baby in house.I was so scared because I knew my HVAC unit is quite old (20+ years).I called them and explained my situation and they gave me a next day appointment. The technician that came (Diego) showed up on time and was able to fix the issue is just a few minutes. He was very curtious and professional. He did a great job the A/C is working perfectly. The prices are very reasonable.I would highly recommend this company to anyone who need of HVAC service. Thank you Blue Star!

I have old water heater that started to leak. That same afternoon I’ve called 5 different companies for a quote and many of them were giving me the run around, unresponsive, adding fees and perhaps parts I don’t even know if I need because of my current situation. I finally got in touch with Randel at BlueStar and walked me thru process of picking the right unit base on the number bathrooms and household. Send them pictures really help assess the work and cost. The following morning came to the house replaced the old unit. Randel also noticed small gas leak and fix it at no charge. The work and service are amazing and Randel gave great price! If you have water heater that needs to be replace I would definitely recommend BlueStar.
