One of my favorite places to go eat have been going for at least 40 years. Wasnt able to eat here this time. It had become a hit and miss. Sometimes the waiters are not attentive but there was a waiter whom worked all his life there before that was awesome. He retired some years ago but we always remember him when we go.
Great experience overall. Definitely get what you pay for and more. We used their off site catering service and they made the process really easy. High level of customer service. The food was excellent. We ordered the fajita menu. The chicken was tender and the beef had an incredible flavor like I havent tasted before. My kids had a raving comment almost everytime they took a bite. I dont think you can go wrong choosing to dine here.
I just landed in ElPaso from orange county, California my wife looked up places to eat near by and found this Mexican restaurant Fortis. On one of the reviews it said they had some good chile Colorado thats my go to dish so I had to try it out and let me tell you it was bomb.com. its a coin flip.on my favorite restaurant where I come from Sēnior Compos on who makes it better. They are different Fortis chile Colorado has a kick to it. I recommend this restaurant if your in El Paso. My wife enjoyed her meal also and I didnt even hear from the boys they were to busy eating lol. Thanks Fortis for the delicious dish I will be back before I go back to California.
Just know Mexican food in El Paso its just a step above the rest of the state and yes its still Tex-mex if you want real Mexican you just go across the bridge 🤣 but this is good stuff and their house margarita is the best Ive ever had.
If you are looking for authentic Mexican food then this is the place. My family loves this place. Every time we go to another restaurant we compare it to this place and we have yet to find a place better than here. The food takes a little while to come out but when you get it you can tell it was prepared right when you ordered it. Highly recommend it here.
It was a Bowie High School alumni meeting with over 20 people. Our waiter Manuel was on it!! Awesome service, great food. Total bill was very reasonable.
Says they’re open Monday and they’re not answering, also got my order COMPLETELY wrong and only refunded me one entree.Good food but not consistent
Nice place. Order the combination plate. Rice and beans tasted awesome. As well as the enchiladas. Also ordered an appetizer of queso fundido Tasted great! Then once I got to the tamale my whole experience was ruined. Tasted like an ash tray or something along the line of beyond burnt. That put me off from even trying the rest. Waiter could definitely be more attentive. Always forgetting refills and even things we requested he failed to even bring them at all.
Been coming here for years but something has changed. Great salsa but all else was pretty average. The chips were super thick and under-seasoned, the queso wasnt cheesy, not special like it used to be. Maybe under new ownership?
Went to Fortis for a family birthday today. Took over 20 minutes for the waiter Manuel to get drinks for the table. Sodas were flat and silverware to mix sugar in teas not even provided. When asked for straws this place stated that they dont provide this. Waited 10 additional minutes for the waiter to come take my familys order until I went up and said something to him. He didnt even come back to the table to take the order after I told him we were ready. Minutes later, after over 30 minutes of waiting, we ended up leaving. Thanks for ruining our party 🎉
Very nice place, checked it out because it was close by and had pretty good rankings. We were very early but got great service and they even fixed up a special potato dish when they didnt have the normal potato dish. It was excellent! The waitress or server depending on your preference, was super nice and helpful with explaining the menu. Watched her help another person who came in and was a little difficult but she did wonderful job with him too. The place has a great ambiance and will be the kind of place you want to be when things pick up again.
Heard good things about this place. It has a nice setup but the wait for food is really long (40 minutes) and I waited over an hour to get my plate. The wait staff keep drinks coming but My party had already finished thier food by the time I got my plate.
Very cozy, we enjoyed the atmosphere but its kind of hidden and youll miss it if youre driving by. The food needed a bit more seasoning but overall we liked visiting.
OMG. it was my first time being there. I did take out. I got the Mexican place. It was worth my $13. Food was delicious I really recommend it. I would good again.
Just ordered today from door dash. This place usually never disappoints but the last two times I have ordered, were just super disappointing. My mole enchiladas looked like they had been sitting out for a while, paid $11 for only 2 rolled enchiladas on both mine and my boyfriends plate. The onions weren’t even chopped, it was whole pieces of onions, I had to take them out to cut them myself. Beans were blain and very little too. Honestly it was a very lazy put together plate.
We had friends take us here to celebrate my husbands birthday. The food and Mexican decor was wonderful. We shared shrimp fajitas and it was excellent. There was so much food we took it home. We also enjoyed a margarita and order of guacamole. We were not able to consume all of the food. Because it is not easily spotted from the highway it is a place we would never have discovered if not for our friends who shared this wonderful discovery.
My dinner was served cold, the two waitress did not understand the English language, before the pandemic this was a great place to get a great hot meal and no language barrier, please go back to the forties that I enjoy visiting.
Quite the hidden gem this one is. I got a jumbo mango margarita with patron ended up being a $32 drink but let me say it was great. I had carnitas plate and wife had Camaron Al mojo de ajo that butter can be buried with me to make sure I take some to the afterlife. Expect to pay some good money for some great food and great nostalgia.
Excellent Customer Service. Food was Delicious. Will go back. Recommend it, Indeed.
Very nice bunch of ppl down at Fortis, we couldnt stay to eat this time but those burritos were delicious! 😋
The combination plate was a very large lunch serving, and it was delicious. I love the ambiance here.
We were really looking forward to trying this place! The experience was really disappointing, to say the least. My husband ordered the garlic shrimp and I ordered beef flautas. The beef had good flavor, but they werent rolled well enough to stay together, so they were really greasy. My husband was the last at our table of 4 to get his food. When it came out, it was a completely different shrimp dish. Trying to be accommodating & not wanting to wait for another meal to be prepared, he just told the waitress it was ok. It turns out that the dish was a $25 appetizer and they proceeded to charge us the full amount, which was doubly awkward since the people we were with decided to pick up our check. We explained to our waitress & another member of the staff that we would only like to be charged for the dish we ordered. Another staff member was sent out to inform us that they would not charge us less and acted like we were unreasonable. There is NO WAY I would have let that fly, but the employee proceeded to ignore me and talk to our host in Spanish...like I didnt understand what he was saying. We should have sent it back, gotten what we ordered and let them eat the cost of the wrong dish...very unprofessional.
Great Mexican food and margaritas. Have out of town visitors and its the first place to go
The place was not even full for the type of service we got.The staff took long to come by and take the order. Once we got it we hadda get up.to get a refill even after we asked them when they came by to drop off the food. Got no silverware. No napkins even. Could even ask them for any cuz the only came by once and that was to drop off the food. Walked away as I was asking for a drink.Food was expensive. Service was poor.Next time time I have out of towners in I wont be taking them there. Was very disappointed in this place. 😕
Food is DELICIOUS, and I cannot stress that enough! Arrachera steak is cooked to perfection and so tender, rice and beans are seasoned just right. Clean restaurant with great decor and excellent customer service.
I love this place. It is a bit off the main drag, but it is worth it. The food has always maintained high quality in presentation and taste. I take folks here for that special Mexican food dinner. The atmosphere is always welcoming, friendly and nice
Great food. $28 for 2 margaritas is ridiculous... even if they are large and perfect. First time here... last time here.
Excellent salsa Good service Friendly waiter Very good hot delicious food
Great service, great food. First time there and ill definitely be going back!
Fortis needs to change the flavor onall dishes. 👎
This place never disappoints. I like it much better than that other Mexican restaurant that everyone always recommends. Authentic food, great service and the place is decorated beautifully 👌 😀. I had the steak tampiquena and it was delicious. Fast and friendly, Ill always come back.
Real tasty food! Green chicken enchiladas are sooo good! And the chile rellenos are actually made with egg whites and not batter. Kids nugget and fries are not greasy and thats a big thing for me.
Amazing atmosphere, good service, food was delicious, bomb margaritas. Definitely going back.
Horrible service, out of many items on the menu. Plates had caked on food under them. Portions super small for what you are paying. The ceviche was delicious. But over all experience wasnt a good one.
WE LOVE IT! Our friends LOVE IT, as well. For over 40 years, Weve always taken family and friends to your restaurant. Every Single Person we take ends up Loving Fortis. Were always excited to come back. Thank You for your Great Service.
Always very good. Would recommend to anyone
Authentic Mexican atmosphere. Great food and great service every time
Food was good, service unorganized, slow, we had to stop someone to get us menus after sitting for about 10 minutes after we got our drinks& didnt know who our waiter was.
Love this place. But they do need more staff. Felt bad for the waiter/waitresses they were rushing around.
From the outside, you would not have many clues to the gem inside. There are many pros to this long loved establishment, and yes, a few cons. Decor & ambiance will keep your attention. Items in the heavy copper-bound menus will have you asking, Wow, could that really work? Some of the simplest dishes are re-imagined yet kept surprisingly simple. Like tacos al pastor, not with the regular diced white onions, cilantro, and lime wedges but with chunks of red meat, long stems of grilled green onions and a guacamole salad. The Pechuga California is another unique and delicious creation youll just have to explore on your own; the description alone will blow your mind! Cons, there are two, slow service when the place is nearly empty and some higher prices that will make you feel like planning your visits around your budget. The food is great, and a relaxed romantic feel could easily be found here but many other restaurants are more affordable and predictable. Explore during lunch and plan for a nice dinner at a later time.
FULL DISCLOSURE!! This is a Mexican restaurant for the white folk. This is catered to give them a light experience into Mexican cuisine. This is not AUTHENTIC. My 3 stars is neutrality because seeing the reviews post dining makes me realize there were a lot of red flags to begin with. Highly recommend it for my white folk. You will find it esthetically pleasing, the fountain, the colors, the decoration. Its definitely here to sell you the folk lore imagery. For my Hispanic folk, pass, do not come in with hopes of an authentic flavored meal. This is not catered for us.
Great service and excellent meal. Good atmosphere. Pratices CoVid safety.
Always good food and service. It has been a great place to take your spouse for dinner for many years.
Great food and great atmosphere!
Fajitas are the best here amazing food
The Molé was the best Ive ever had and the server was very timely.
No crowd no wait. Excellent service. Fantastic food. Great atmosphere.
Hidden jewel. Been eating there over 30 years.
I came on a Thursday evening and had a great experience here! The service was great, the food was delicious, and the ambiance was very warm and welcoming. One word of caution...the Mega-Rita is not a large margarita. It is VERY large.
One of the best in EP.. Food & margaritas are superb..
Good food, good time, great service. Family and friends enjoy our meetings here.
Food like this is why we came back to El Paso! Great food and great service!
Bad service.Food was ok
Excellent meal and friendly wait staff. Was a pleasure to have our birthday lunch there!
Been going here for 25 years. It looks like its under different management because the food is bad and and the service is too.
Have the enchiladas because I went off of peoples reviews all those people were being nice I did not like the enchiladas at all I will not be back
Restaurant was great, food was late not as good as before, but menu was dirty if they can inprove it would be great
Excellent service! Great food!
Restaurant was beautiful...and the food was delicious
Very good service and good music and delicious food
This place is a MUST. My steak was tender and tasty. Well seasoned. The chef and staff were incredible friendly and knowledgeable.
Enjoyed the taco plate! Peaceful atmosphere and friendly service!
Was delicious. Service was fantastic Rigo took very good care of the family. Food was fresh and delicious
This place is better than Carlos and Mickeys. I always try to convince people to come here instead. Better food.
Lovely restaurant, great atmosphere and great food
Had a party of 30 tonight. Entire staff was terrific. From the moment we walked into Fortis to reserve the seating until our last goodbyes, every staff member had a smile on their face and were so helpful. They worked with us with every little detail to plan my wifes birthday party. Thank you Fortis for making this event so enjoyable. See you soon.......again!
Only one star because I cannot give less service is horrible we waited for 2 hours and didn’t even get a glass of water we had to walk out along with other customers this place is TRASH absolute TRASH and ruined an event in my family after accepting a reservation KNOWING they were or are under staffed would not recommend for diner for 2 or 20.or for any reason.
Good food...Good atmosphere.
Amazing food and wonderful staff!
A crowd-pleaser! Must go and try! Awesome authentic Mexican food right on the border in a very run-down part of town but well worth it! Once you get past the facade of a desolate looking establishment. The inside of the restaurant turns into a beautiful open ceiling eating area with plants and lots of tile. The salsa is to die for but watch out its got a kick. And the cuisine is exquisite. Price is reasonable. Two thumbs up keep up the good work guys!
They picked up and hung up twice without answering on the 3rd call I asked why arent you saying anything and the young lady laughed... I asked 2hat time they opened and she said like 11, I asked so 1130 and she said yes. Is this person really who you want taking customer calls because you just lost one...
Salsa had to much cilantro, my steak was a bit tough. (Chile con queso) was great. No refills on drinks .
Highly recommended for your parties 🎉🎉🎉🎉, delicious sopalpillas, great guacamole and flautas!
They dont do well with big groups.
If it were just customer service I would give them 5 stars. I ordered my food through door dash and sadly was given the wrong drinks, food was a mess and tasted was not great. Luckily when I called them the manager was more than willing to personally deliver the right drinks and make up food to us. I very much appreciated this he was kind and professional.
Great food, the cheese red enchiladas were amazing! Definitely should try them... The place is beautiful, the service is excellent, fair price. The day I was there, they had a folklore dance going on.. It was a great experience, everyone seemed to enjoy it.... Highly recommend
Great food
Excellent food, attentive staff. Very spacious. Clean and elegant. Moderately priced. Not a place youll find unless youre looking for it, but well worth the trip.
The food was excellent. The waitress was very good. The Womens bathroom was horrible!! It was not clean-paper towels stuffed behind the pedestal of the sink, smell was bad, waiting for something to crawl out of one of the dislodged wall tiles, stains in the bowl. Definitely not well maintained. I had recommended it to some friends, but luckily they didnt use the facilities or I would have been embarrassed to have told them about it. What happened to it!!?! No amount of live music covers up disgusting bathrooms. Not sure Ill go again.
Stopped for lunch and we were delightfully surprised. Excellent food, great service from Alonzo. It had been many years since we had been here, it will be a regular stop from now on.
Unfortunately, a place that was an institution in this city for years, is no longer. Terrible service. The food was good.Could not believe that both the toilet paper dispenser and paper towel dispenser were broken and the paper goods were just sitting on top of the sink. Truly sad to see. Hopeful management will address things...
We liked Fortis dining experience. It was much more stylish than your typical Mexican restaurant. Food was fantastic and came with notable portion size. The only thing that dropped it a star was the tiny wine pours. Looked like a 1/3 a glass in there.
Good food and service👍
First impressions are lasting impressions, I was very impressed with this Great place, friendly staff, food came out timely, hot and delicious, definitely recommend
The food was excellent, service was awesome. Cant go wrong coming here to eat. Prices are good. Margaritas are large and strong, you will love them. Excellent atmosphere, and beautiful restaurant..
We started going to this wonderful restaurant since about 35 years ago . We love the food, the restaurant from inside . Makes you feel you are in an hacienda .
We had a luncheon for 25 people on Saturday at Fortis. I live in San Antonio and wanted a nice place to gather with friends and family after my Grandmothers Celebration of Life church service. I remembered Fortis from 35 years ago when I lived in El Paso and what a neat place it was. It turned out to be great choice. The food and service were great! This place is still a gem after all these years.
