My lock was broken into under the command of the GM Spencer. My items were removed and stolen. They did not keep these items for me to claim them. The lady I spoke to was so rude. She basically told me to f off and there was nothing she could do for me. Stating I need to contact the GM to report my valuable item that are missing.I have never experienced this at a gym b4, this is my first experience with golds and def my last. They even charge you for towels. I mean. Theres no way this is normal. Im livid
Equipment is mildly dated, in good shape. Nice staff. Classes are good. They dont enforce masks during COVID. Plenty of Equipment even when busy if you dont mind trying different Equipment.
PROS: large space, variety of options to pick from, nice staff, plenty of free parking, childcare on site, first week free on trial basis (to test out the place) which is helpful before signing up.CONS: 50% or less of people wearing their masks. For example, there is a large sign on the door that says “masks required” - but the front desk staff member wasn’t even wearing a mask. Absolutely no enforcement of this across the gym. That was super disappointing to see. Also, the gym had a weird smell to it. The equipment is old. The spin bikes are low key dangerous to ride because they’ve been used too much. And lastly, the locker room straight up smells bad. It smelt like old sweaty clothes and mildew/mold. I could smell is easily through my mask. Definitely agree with the other review on the smell thing. It’s rough.
Nice gym, exactly what youd expect from golds. Some equipment is a bit old yes, but not like falling apart old. Tons of machines for everything you could possibly want to do. 4 individual squat racks, plus a rig so technically 6. Not a lot of deadlift space, only 2 platforms, one of which shares with one of the 4 racks. Only thing missing from this gym is a GHD / reverse hyper. Staff is friendly and helpful. Cant comment on the trainers though, no experience with them. For some of the reviews addressing mask usage: its a gym. Most people dont wear a mask while theyre working out (especially the kids, lots of teenagers frequent here after school). It is what it is. If youre uncomfortable with it dont go here. There are signs asking you wear it coming in. Doesnt seem to be strictly enforced, but most customers follow it.. The staff do wear their masks, so good on them for that.
Would not continue if not for the pool. Locker rooms are filthy. Sand and grime on the floors and benches. I am sure there is not COVID cleaning there ever. Showers are also very dirty. Must wear shoes and cautiously touch. No masks worn in the facility by the majority, which is very frustrating and limits my usage of the facility to the pool only. Music piped into locker rooms contains vulgar language..... If not for the pool I would go elsewhere! Positive, is the pool with minimal chlorine and in general warmer water temperature. I love that! Water aerobic classes are very nice. Wish there were more time options.
Pros: it’s definitely a gymCons: the mask policy is a joke. Even the front desk employee was not wearing her mask. They have signs up, but today my lifting partner and I were the only ones out of 25 people wearing masks. Nobody even had masks! Not in the locker room, not in the lobby, and definitely not in the workout spaces. When I politely asked the employee if she could remind people to use masks between exercises, the reply was “that’s not my job”.
Nice size gym with lots of choices for fitness. Nice area that has pool/ sauna/ hot tub.
Great gym, the new owners have really turned it around and made the appropriate updates.
Great place to try and lose weight. Has a pool, sauna, and places for kids
Nice equipment, good classes, love the tanning beds! All for a great value!
The best in town!
I love the variety here! This place is top of line for its price and options. People, multiple gyms with weights, courts, and a pool! You cant beat it, definitely my favorite spot in this town so far. If you go tell them I referred pretty please ;)
Good equipment but changing rooms are bit dirty. Place feels bit dated. But loads of stuff to do here. Was only passing by so only got time for quick workout
Positive energy and a good variety of equipment. Employees are nice and they keep the place clean. It makes the difference between a short term resolution and a long term commitment.
I really enjoy going to Golds! They have a large space so there never is a cramped or congested feeling. The equipment is nice and they have a little bit of everything so its easy to change workout routines. There is a nice basketball court, nice pool, various classes offered, showers, sauna, tanning, do I need to keep going? I recomend checking it out!
I signed up for their 3 month special $99 and couldnt be happier. Beautiful pool and gym. Super friendly staff and trainers. Gonna stay with it this time, its not a chore going there like other gyms.
Best gym Ive ever been apart of, lots of equipment and great friendly workers with a great positive atmosphere
Expensive, no towel service unless you pay extra, kinda dirty, kinda smelly. Maybe the biggest gym in the chippewa valley with pool, hot tub, and sauna
Lots of different options for how to workout and fun classes as well!
Best gym in town
Great cardio options, friendly staff. Ive never purchased training here but Ive heard good things. They have a good selection of included classes including aerobic, yoga, spinning, swimming as well as some others that cost a bit more like kick boxing. The do have a woman only area and a senior workout area.Good selection of machine an free weights, most of the members are helpful and nice.
Wonderful facility, great staff. Love the cinema work-out room. The pool, sauna and spa are great too. The yoga classes have room for improvement. Instructors dont allow for much quiet time without verbal instruction and often the classes seem more like work-out instruction rather than yoga.
Used to love this place! Not so much these days. Everything is in disrepair. Its like the owners stopped caring a while ago. Pricing is definitely not worth what you get these days. Sad used to be the best place in town.
Golds Eau Claire has a nice variety of fitness classes and Ive enjoyed every one Ive been too. The weight room is also nicely furnished and they have plenty of cardio equipment. I also like having Lady Golds as an option when the weight room gets a bit full. I do feel like theyre starting to outgrow their weight room a bit, the squat racks and benches can get crowded, they would benefit from an expansion if they had the space available but people are pretty good about moving along quickly.
Its an okay gym. I mainly go to play Basketball, I just wish that you could lower the rims to practice your dunking abilities. Then it would be 5 stars.
I use to love going here, until a now! I was getting charged $10 a month (which was awesome) and then all of a sudden I start getting charged $35 (okay still not bad for a gym membership), looked at my CC statement and now I’m getting charged $54! I know this may not be a big deal to some people but if you going to do that to people at least have the decency to send emails out, send letters, or even call! I had no idea why my payments where jumping like that at all! So then I called to see if I can cancel my membership not only do you have to give them a month notice you have to go there in person to sign a damn form saying you wish to cancel your membership! And if you move you have to send a damn letter and then your membership gets canceled the day they receive the letter! I’m sorry, but that is such an convince to people!
Good place for working out. Also has a pool,, hot tub, and sauna. Plenty of trainers, classes and things to do. Youll pay more than other gyms, but if you use it all its well worth it.
It a friendly environment for families! Their is a kids club for kids age and under 13, but anyone can use that equipment. Some of our favorite family times are going to their pool on the free times and swimming.
I am a member from Texas. Our clubs are newer and follow the new GG template.I was happy to see a Golds in Eau Claire. Even though older, the equipment worked and the facility was clean. A solid 3.5 so give them 4 for the effort of keeping all things working.
Best gym in town.
The place has a good selection of workout equipment the prices are kind of high to join they need to offer better passes so people can see it.
BEWARE OF BILLING AND CONTRACTSIf you take out a month-to-month contract, make sure you cancel before the contract end date. Its not really an end date because they will just keep charging you after that date. You have to physically stop in and fill out a cancellation form for them to stop charging you.Further, make sure your credit card on file doesnt expire, get locked or cancelled. They will charge you a fee for this as well.Extremely disappointed with this company. I would definitely not recommend this to anyone.
The sauna is great!
It doesnt matter if you were a member 8+ years ago, you are not entitled to the limited-time trial membership. Although it states on Golds corporate website guests who are 1) Over the age of 18 2) Local & 3) Not a prior guest or member in the last 6 months, I was denied a guest membership. I was a Golds member in 2009, moved away and recently moved back in 2017. I applied for the limited time trial because the quality of a gym can change dramatically over time. I wanted to make sure Golds kept their fitness experience above if not beyond other gyms in the area. This was not the case at the Eau Claire Golds Gym. I was denied a 7 day trial membership from Kyle, the manager, because even though their corporate website says, guests who are a prior guest or member in the last 6 months, the Eau Claire Golds gym does not grant anyone a limited trial who has been a previous guests, regardless of any lifespan. Instead of signing up for a monthly membership, I proudly walked away knowing their are other gyms in the Eau Claire area that would gladly offer me a limited time trial, even if I disappear off the earth for ten years.
Amazing trainers and staff who are so easy to be comfortable with! Also a very clean facility. Love working out here!
Great gym facility. Plenty of machines and free weights. The place is always very clean and well kept. The pool and hot tub are great plus the have a sauna if you are into that. The locker rooms are very nice and there are plenty of lockers to go around. There is a great smoothie bar, tanning, basketball court, child drop off, and cardio theater. This is a top notch gym. The only criticism I have is that their WiFi deployment could be a little better so as to provide better coverage in the locker rooms.
You cant even view the amenities on your Web page. There is no info regarding pricing. I dont want to go in and get pressured to sign up. I want the info to view and make my decision. Its really a shame they do business like this.
Best Gym in town. Great, helpful, knowledgeable staff
Pretty good gym but the locker roomIs too small
Nice gym! Better then 99% of the gyms in this area.
Terrible business. I have been going here for years and finally had enough. The owners and staff dont really care about the members. It takes weeks even months for stuff to get fixed and the cleanliness is non existent. The place is almost always smelly, unclean, over flowing garbage, leaks in the building, and the bathrooms are even allowed to run out of toilet paper. My finally decision to leave was made by the fact that instead of notifying me that my membership was nearly up they just started charging me the extra rate for a month to month membership. On top of that after canceling a month ahead of when I expected to stop being charged they continue to charge me for another month even with the 30 day notice turned in.Point is dont go here.
Good place to workout. Even though it is higher priced than other gyms around, it is not kept clean. I had complained a few times about cleaning but they did not care.
Largest gym in Eau Claire, to my knowledge! Be sure to try the fitness classes or cardio cinema (where you can watch modern movies while you work out)!
This place is awesome. I love it!
This gym is really dirty. Ive been to other Golds and this one is the worst. What Ive observed:Understaffed, so they cant keep up with the basics.Maintenance is obviously minimal at best.Sani wipes frequently empty. Very poor signage so people often walk away and do not wipe machines after use.Members frequently do not shower before entering the pool. This is true for elderly members!Showers are often neglected and you will get athletes foot. Guaranteed.Locker rooms seen numerous times with overflowing garbage on the floor and basically unclean.Worrisome pool. Is it safe?
Great pool. AWESOME Yoga instructors inc Ingrid Schaller.
Worst Cancellation Policy - I cancelled my month-to-month membership on December 2nd fully realizing I would be charged for that month. That was also communicated to me. Now the whole story changed when I called this morning after being charged for another month. I was supposed to have cancelled BEFORE December 2nd to avoid being charged another month. I wish I had been told this initially because I would have of course done things differently (cancelled earlier or actually used the gym longer)... Seriously messed up; nobody should be treated this way by an organization.Edit: Gold’s finally said they understood my frustration and offered to provide a refund for one of the extra months I was charged. After about a year or so... I haven’t received it despite numerous follow-ups. Yeah, it’s only $40 or so but it’s again the false information and promises that bother me so much!
Clean facilities and nice equipment although the cult-like atmosphere can be much.
I like the privacy if the womens golds. Pool is small and not great hours. Too much intimidation with skinny and muscular people who like watching themselves in the mirror.
They have the best weightlifting gym in town. Hands down. If I were to complain... its Wednesday, rainy and they closed bcuz 4th of July. I worked and paid membership.
Never seems crowded even when parking lot is full. There is plenty of equipment. Everything is clean and its a good place to work out.
Needs tinted windows in gym. Friendly staff
Very welcoming gym! Has everything you need 💪
I cancelled the services of this gym two months in advance of the date needed. I made sure everything was in order and even took a picture of the signed cancellation form to avoid any problems. After one month of not being charged, I was charged for another month. After calling to ask what happened and for a refund, I was told that there was nothing to be done until management looked at it as no one had any way to help me at the time. I will never go back to this company and I will be telling the story for others about their services, or lack of them.
Very fun place to work out. Check out their cardio cinema!
Unfortunately, Golds Gym cares more about the money from their clients rather ensuring their clients are happy with their experience.
Moldy showers. No leway or compassion on getting out of your contract due to the stinky, harmful mold issue. Even when your husband has Asthma. Mold in soap dispenser, on ceiling and terrible ventilation system in the shower room. You go to a gym to get healthy. Black mold is serious and I shouldnt have to bring that to their attention.
Excellent free weight section and awesome cardio cinema room. Much of the cardio equipment seems a little out dated. A big bonus for me would be to install drinking fountains with the bottle feature on them since that is what most people carry around with them. Would like to see a better/different stretching area due to the fact that the only stretching area they have is about 10x15 and is usually full of people. A minor note also is there music is just terrible, truthfully awful; it ranges from 60s country to something worse or older. Not the type of music that gets your blood moving. The overall cleanliness of the gym seems lax. There is often a mildewy/unknown substance in the mens shower room and they just do not seem to have very good cleaning habits. The main draw to this gym out of others in the area (opposed to the Y) is their pool, hot tub and sauna. These are excellent features to whined down in after a workout.
Great gym. Best family pricing in town. Very clean.
Good place whem I travel
This review is from a current member who will NOT be renewing his contract once it ends. I came here because of the overall good reputation of Golds Gym locations, and the fact that many of these locations have been the base gym of many notable bodybuilders. Heres the short story: Stay FAR, FAR, FAR away. If you want the long story, check out mine and other reviews from folks who have been stuck here for a good chunk of their contract (the place seems nicer at first, but that lustre wears off quickly as you watch, observe, experience, chat up some entry-level employees, etc.)If you read this and the other reviews (which I should have done prior to signing up) you will see that this location is SIGNIFICANTLY sub-par compared to both other Golds locations (this location is a franchise, not Golds corporate, and the franchisees are the main problem) and the vast majority of other local gyms. Please bear with me as there is a LOT of bad points to illustrate for you.Billing problems abound, and they will not make right, even on their own error. I have written a letter directly to the owner which failed to even receive acknowledgement. If you try to explain to them their error, they will either embarrass you by talking loudly about your account or by flat out telling you that it is useless to even contact the accounts manager about it as he will either just ignore you or contact you back in a very rude fashion. It is a large enough facility for the town, but is filled with OUTDATED and UNMAINTAINED equipment. For example, stretched cables and belts on machines, not to mention the cardio deck full of old treadmills which can barely take the surge load of starting up. These things also take forever to fix when it is broken. Im really not sure where our twice-yearly equipment fees are going. Oh, and whats that in your hand soap dispenser? A high tech solution of lemon dish soap from a dollar store and water.Oh, and forget it if you wanted to work somewhere thats cleaned regularly. This place is disgusting. Once you come to terms with the places they NEVER clean, you realize that the parts that ARE cleaned are significantly cleaner at some times than others. They must only have one good cleaner because the end of the week and weekend are usually clean enough, but the beginning of the week is rough. I figured the weekends would be the bad times, but go figure. Trash bins are always overflowing during the day. Oh, and their scale (at least in the mens locker room) has never been calibrated which is important for someone trying to build a competitive body.Dont count on having Wi-Fi access if it is at all busy (your cell service typically wont cover this place.) An IT professional of 10+ years, I was able to confirm through a quick analysis of the network devices done via my smartphone that Golds Gym of Eau Claire have a very state-of-the-art Wi-Fi setup consisting of two consumer-grade routers you can go down to Walmart or Best Buy and pick up yourself. This setup was obviously not configured by even an entry level network technician as well, so the security of your data is very much handled at your own peril. If you decided it might help to enter a suggestion into the suggestion box about any of this, dont bother. Ive found out what happens with those, and it isnt a timely phone call to the member to provide excellent customer service. Often, they sit in the box itself for weeks without being touched. If you want a gym where the management doesnt give one lick about its members; a place of business where managers hide in the back, dont take accountability for their actions, and push everything off onto the base-paid employees who dont even fully understand some of what theyre explaining; a gym where equipment needed for your routine may be out of commission for several weeks (or months) then come to Golds Gym. They have a mediocre-at-best experience waiting for you for either for a comparable or higher price than you would pay a competently-run gym.
Its size and equipment selection is very good. But but apparently its ok to slam every thing you pick up here. Soo many anoying lifters here. And the wifi is terrible and you dont really get service inside for muisic. And when a cable machine breaks it takes 2.5 weeks to fix.
The facility has a pretty good variety of workout machines and the fact that theres a room only for women is great for privacy. However, the yoga and pilates classes need a lot of improvement. Most of the instructors talk too much and go too much into detail but do too little of the actual workout; I go to pilates with the intention of building strength, not to sit there and have to listen to her go into every single detail. She also didnt want to let me make it my individual practice. For many years Ive gone to the ymca and theyve always encouraged to make the practice your own. This morning was the most boring pilates class Ive ever been to and I left the class disappointed feeling as though I lost an hour of my time. Please take this into consideration!
They have everything You need in a gym. From swimming to running, and everything in between.
I got so huge i had to get back surgery.
Cancelled membership on January 31st, was told I would be only billed for February and the 28 day month wouldnt affect the cancellation. Here I am March 3rd with another membership fee taken out. Rip Off Artists!
Very proud! Best in town.
Never get a break off the cost if youre a regular. Somehow the prices go up..watch hidden fees
Expensive, equipment maintenance is nonexistent even though you are charged extra for it, music is awful and can not be changed, dirty :same band aid on the floor for a month. Cant imagine what is in the pool. Go elsewhere.
Great place to workout
Ok
Horrible gym
