My first visit was to replace a broken attachment from the charging cable into the laptop. A young man with red (I think) hair sold me a box of attachments for $36 that he said would fit as he chatted away. I didnt understand it but decided to take it home and see if the attachments fit. When I did I realized there was nothing there that solved my problem, and I returned to Intrex the following day. The man from the previous day wasnt there. I believe it was the owner I spoke with this time and he said the item I purchased was inappropriate for what I needed and they dont carry the size I needed. He said he was going to address the issue with the young man, and he readily refunded my money. I was going to give one star but decided on three because of the customer satisfaction given to me the following day. I decided on only three stars because I had to return to the store to fix the problem.

For more than 10 years I have been customer of Intrex. I have built myself dozens of computers buying all parts at Intrex. I was always greeted friendly and always was given good suggestions and advice.Today I was greeted aggressively, and the only answer I got was we can do it for you. When I said that I wanted to do it myself, the last answer I got was: so, do it youself and good luck!After such a long satisfactory relationship, I will never step in an Intrex shop.

We brought in my daughters laptop for repair sometime towards the end of June. We were told at the time that they wouldnt even be able to look at it until after July 4th. Sigh. Okay. We finally get a call sometime around July 10 with an estimate. We have to pre-pay for parts. Okay, can I do that over the phone? No. I drive down to the store to pay in person and am told that it will be 7-10 days. 10 days later, no response. I call for an update. Weve been trying to call... we must have the wrong phone number. I ask them to read the phone number to me, its correct. Im informed that they need to order yet another part, and it will be next week before the laptop is ready. Over a week goes by and no call. Im leaving to go out of town and I make arrangements to pre-pay the remaining balance and give them my daughters phone number to call her when its ready so she can pick it up. Over a week goes by, and still no call. I finally get back into town and call them on August 12 (now 6 weeks since I dropped it off), and am informed that they accidentally broke the screen, are waiting on a replacement, and that it would be a few more days. I finally picked up the laptop on August 14.TL;DR: It took them 6 weeks to fix our laptop, the communication of issues was non-existent, and they broke the laptop while in their possession, causing further delays.

I recently had Intrex at Patterson Place in Durham build me a new desktop PC. The last one they built me is still running reliably at almost 9 years and will be a non-Internet backup PC (with Windows 7). I like how they work with you to configure the PC to meet your specific needs, and they use quality parts and care. When building my PC, they thoroughly tested it and found the motherboard had failed. They replaced the motherboard before I ever took delivery. After the sale, they provide support and a lifetime hardware repair labor warranty. In my case, I was having trouble with Windows Defender security software. An Internet search told me that apparently was a problem in the latest update of Windows 10 but I couldnt find a solution. James, who sold me the PC, worked with me by phone and e-mail to come up with a solution that was easy to apply and quickly worked. Nice.

He went the extra mile in helping me quickly diagnose and resolve a perplexing problem that had appeared might take my computer out of service for a lengthy period, and did so courteously and in a manner that greatly increased my understanding of the issue. Intrex has been my go to experts for business and personal computing needs, for over 20 years. This year, in the middle of Holiday Season, my laptop broke. I was sure I would need a new one. James, at the Durham store, did a diagnostic, explained the problem, and reassured me about being able to get the laptop fully functioning again. He succeeded and I was able to bring my laptop home with no data loss and in full working order. Intrex is the Best as far as I am concerned, and I am grateful for James expertise and thoughtful intervention.

This store is excellent. It has a good assortment of parts and a very helpful staff. If they do not have something you need, they will check other locations on the computer and either offer to get the item in or send you to the other store depending on the urgency of your need. The best staff at any computer store I have ever seen.

The people here are pretty nice. However, I have been into a few stores over the years and I would say that about 50% of the time, the item I go to buy is not in stock. I recently tried to buy a bequiet Dark Rock 4 and once again they were out of stock. The guy working said they keep low stock on most items. This forced me to buy online from another retailer rather than local (which I hate to do). Second issue is that on a lot of their products, their prices are above MSRP. The Dark Rock 4 for example is being sold by bequiet for $74 while it is $89 at Intrex. bequiet is selling the Dark Rock PRO 4 for the same price as Intrex is selling the lower tier model. The business practices of Intrex baffles me sometimes. I assume they dont make much money off of retail and most of their business likely comes from custom enterprise builds and servers.2021 Update:I am dropping to ONE star due to scalping. Intrex is selling an RTX 3070 for $300 over MSRP!! F this company. THEY ARE NOT CONSUMER FRIENDLY.

The keyboard on my Dell laptop is supposed to be back-lit so that I can see the keys easily, regardless of the ambient lighting. Several weeks ago the keyboard popped out of its housing, and when I put it back in, the light no longer worked. I waited to take the computer anywhere--both because I didnt know where to go and because I thought replacing the keyboard would be expensive.Finally, last Thursday, I took the laptop to Intrex; it had a good reviews on Angies List, and the Chapel Hill store was on my way home from another appointment. GREG solved my problem within 10 minutes. He popped out the keyboard, saw that a tape-like connection had detached, and reattached it. He also made sure that the keyboard was fully and tightly inserted in the housing (it hadnt been). And when he rebooted the computer, there was light! :-)Moreover, the charge was $0.00. Intrex and Greg will be my go-to computer place and person from now on.

Always there when you need them. Need a power supply on Saturday afternoon, or in this case on Thursday morning? Dont want to wait for shipping? They have what you need for just a little bit more than online (sometimes less if they made a good buy.) In my books, that is a great deal. Very nice to have a local store that stocks PC parts. The guys at Intyrex are Top Notch!!! i brought in a 18 yo Windows computer that stopped recognizing any devices. I brought it in unannounced they stopped everything after i told them how important the PC was for my work diagnosed the issue cleared up so bugs i didnt even know about, I was up and running in 20 minutes!! Cannot say enough to thank Tim at the Chapel Hill office. Without a doubt the most polite, cordial, knowledgeable and honest computer technician I have ever dealt with. If the local Chapel Hill store offered employee of the month he deserves the award. Tim diagnosed my computer free of charge expedited the repair and went above and beyond to get cpu returned to me before closing -wow I was pleasantly surprised...Intrex has just won me as a life long customer. I will be back :-) If you compare the astronomical fees of the geek squad at best buy...you would have to be crazy not to use Intrex instead - Cheers and promote Tim to store manager :-)

At my wits end, I brought in a gaming computer having horrible fps... I had also uninstalled a driver that I shouldn’t have :/The guy I met seemed nice enough, and followed along as I explained what kind of fps issues I had and the driver.They took it in and benchmarked it and saw it was running in the low end but couldn’t figure out why, so 80 dollars later I have a low benchmark and reinstalled/updated drivers.Turns out, my CPU was being thermal throttled due to an issue in the motherboard (.8 GHz instead of 4 GHz), which was turned off in the BIOs menu.Nice people, expensive work.

Im only posting this because of the rudeness of one of the employees at this location over the phone. I called today to simply get clarification about a service I received from them a few months ago, and the person who attended my call was extremely impolite and rude. He seemed as if I was wasting his time. I found his actions to be very disrespectful. Even though the service provided was okay, I wont be back to this store just because of todays event. The whole situation is very unfortunate because one persons actions can definitely contribute to a whole stores (or even companys) bad reputation.

Had a CPU overheating issue and talked in depth with one of the sales reps. I had already tried reapplying thermal paste, so we went through options and landed on switching out the liquid cooler that I had for a different one. Worked like a charm! The reps advice was spot on and I plan on following up on his pizza place recommendation, as well.

How are they even still in business? Poor selection, rude or disaffected employees, their websites design is atrocious (redolent of something from 1997). Not to mention the fact that they dont carry any higher end Ryzen 5, Ryzen 7, or Threadripper CPUs while Intels offerings seem to be well-represented at their store(s). For a study in how to do a good job in computer hardware/consumer electronics retailing, look no further than Frys and Microcenter (neither of which exists in NC). Intrex is a relic of the past and their attitudes reflect it.

Called to inquire about a video card during the bitcoin silliness. Had read that some brick and mortar stores were offering reduced prices to people building gaming pcs, and asked if they were charging full market price, or MSRP. Received a transparently defensive response about the price the market would bear. No interest in ever giving this place any of my business. I called in to ask a simple question about an unresponsive touchpad. The gentleman on the phone took the time to walk me through some troubleshooting and voila! my problem was fixed! Intrex has helped me several times over the phone. I know they are busy and giving advice over the phone does not make them any money - but they are always accommodating and I greatly appreciate that! When they have done a repair on my laptop it was done as scheduled and repaired correctly the first time. Yay Intrex! You guys are great!!!

This Intrex location might be ok for purchasing supplies, but BEWARE of using them for service. Not only did they not fix my laptop (while ordering parts and charging me for installation), but called to say the laptop was fixed when they hadnt even checked it out to see that the problem was fixed.. When I returned with it the next day to complain, they not only refused to stand behind the work for which Id been charged, but threw me out of their store. And I was less than one week post knee replacement on a walker. Terrible management and really rude staff. Ended up taking the laptop to Absolute Computers in Cary to be repaired and would highly recommend them. Caveat Emptor applies to this Intrex location.

I an in Durham, NC from Las Vegas where I have a firm that properly takes care of my computers for personal and business needs. That firm in Las Vegas is Hot Link Data.My lap top computer registry crashed and I took my laptop in to Intrex in Durham and asked for it to be put back the way it was before the crash.Originally, I had windows 10 and current browser and anti-virus on my lap top.I picked up the computer the next day and when I returned home I find the browser is out of date and no windows 10 installed. They charged me an additional $100 + fees to do what should have been done at the onset, or to advise me when I brought it in of the additional costs required to have a working computer browser and current operating system.Sorry, but I was expecting the excellent service I have always had with my Las Vegas Computer Repair Company Hot Link Data.

Disaster always strike at the worst time. For me, this was Columbus Day 2017, an urgent request to review and OK a publication draft within 24 hours, both computers inoperable, and all stores closed. My wife asked me to go to Krogers (Durham) for milk and eggs and since INTREX was nearby I decided to check if I had a little luck left. At 10 am I met Tim at the door and explained my problem. He began to examine and adjust my computer. While he was working, I walked around and read the notices – charges for diagnosis, quick service etc. Within 5 minutes, Tim had my computer fixed. My calculation was that the charge would be $150, but Tim told me that it was free. I tried two more times, but he insisted. I was home in Chapel Hill in 10 minutes with milk, eggs, and a working computer!For me, this encounter at INTREX would have been a bargain at $150 and 5-7 days in the workshop. This anecdote is not an advertisement for fast, free service. It is a message to those like me who are confused in buying or maintaining a computer, and who have not been able to get knowledgeable, reliable, and especially, unbiased answers.This is the difference between fickle MBA - style revenue enhancement and old-style American brandable service and growth.Will I maximize this experience and talk about it? I brought my Lenovo computer there for warranty service. They told me it would take them less than 2 weeks to fix it. But it actually took 5 weeks. When they returned the computer to me, the computer was not restored to its original condition. I needed to tell them that the finger print reader was not in place, which left a hole on the shell. Also, the screen of the computer was scratched during the repair. Now there is a new problem with the computer, which is likely due to careless reassembly.

Recently brought my Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 2 there because there was a single crack in the screen and wanted an estimate for the repair to see if it would be worth it. This place was on Lenovos website as a certified repair place. I dropped off the tablet on a Thursday and asked for them to please call me with a quote before they started any work. By the next Thursday I had not heard from them so I called to inquire. They said that they had the tablet taken apart but couldnt get ahold of a new screen to repair it with, even though I had specifically asked them to not touch it without giving me a quote. They said they couldnt do anything further and that I could come pick it up any time. When I went to pick up the tablet I discovered that in the process of getting it apart they had broken my SD card in half, cracked the screen further so that it is now splintered and the front and back half of the tablet no longer close completely leaving a gaping hole for dust and other things to get inside. The only thing that the manager said he could do was replace the SD card and give me the work that they had done at no cost.

So I decided I was going to try my hand at building my PC at home...everything was purchased through Intrex, and I asssembled the parts together and weeee!! New PC. Then something started going horribly wrong. I constantly had to deal with BSOD and crashes to desktop. confused by what I was reading on the internet (I spent days trouble shooting and attempting to repair issues as they arose) I finally went to these guys for a trouble shooting. Initially it was determined that I had not properly installed windows, so a few months later (same issues on my end and several proper installs and re-installs of windows 7 later) I figure out that I may have a bad component. To make sure of that I take it back in to the service department and do another diagnostic. These guys not only confirmed my suspicions, but because it was missed on the first diagnostic offered to cover the current charge and RMA the bad part for me at no charge. This has been the best customer service experience I have had in a really long time, and I not only highly recommend this location for anybody, I would use them again for the next build I do. The prices are very reasonable, the customer service is excellent. I can not recommend them enough.
