We were looking to convert a two story room into a loft, and had asked a number of teams to provide quotes. CQC was by far the easiest to work with! Cindy Gilmore did an amazing job during the design phase, and was a really good partner on our ideas and things she thought would go well with our style. We had our own Project Manager Kevin Barbour who was a great single point of contact, did everything from coordination of subs to sweeping the floors prior to inspections. Mike Dean and John Farmer were our carpenters, and they were great to be around. They also nailed a great custom distressed mantle for us.We did have a number of delays due to COVID during the project, particularly windows that were beyond CQC control. During that time, the team communicated well and often about the status of things, keeping us up to date on when we could expect the next phases to start.I highly recommend the CQC team, and we will be using them for any future remodeling work.

We just completed a kitchen and bath renovation project with CQC and are delighted with the result. The process was painless. There was clear communication at all stages. Everyone we dealt with was pleasant and professional. Cindy Gilmore was our designer and she quickly gauged our taste and made choosing various materials and fixtures an easy process. She was always available for advise and because we trusted and valued her advice, we felt free to call on her with questions even after the design phase was completed. Our project leader was Justin Koch. He kept us informed with the progress by email in addition to weekly meetings. Justin made sure that all work was completed to the highest quality. All projects have some problems but Justin very calmly made sure that every problem was resolved to our satisfaction. Eric Adams was the carpenter and the main hands-on person on our project. His sunny personality combined with a fabulous work ethic was impressive. Eric worked at every aspect of the project until it was perfect. He was considerate, careful and efficient on all tasks. Laurence and Wes were the other carpenters who were occasionally involved with the project and in keeping with the company culture were professional and pleasant and did a good job. As far as the sub contractors go, the crew that did the tiling, flooring and plumbing were excellent but the painters and electricians not so much. In fact, they had to be called many times over to correct their work and to complete a satisfactory job. We recommend CQC without any reservation, specially if you are lucky enough to have Cindy, Justin and Eric on your team. We would definitely consider them for future projects.

CQC has a systematic approach that really works. They came out to meet us and look at our kitchen and laundry room remodel we were interested in doing. Then, we agreed to have the designers come to gather specific measurements and listen to our ideas. Mac and Jessica were open to all ideas, and we provided pics to help visualize what we were looking for. From there, they worked up a design and proposed a timeline and price to do the work. At this point, we paid for the design, it was ours. If we didn’t feel comfortable we could have walked away at that point. So glad we didn’t. Having the overall plan laid out and agreed upon from the beginning made the whole process clear and smooth.We decided to delay the start of the job three months until quarantine orders were lifted, and we were not pressured to do anything we didn’t want to do at any time before, during or after our job was completed.The main team working at our home were highly skilled professionals. They were courteous and respectful of being in our home during COVID. They were all friendly, easy going, and gave their all on our job. Caleb kept us well informed of all steps along the way- great project management! Eric and Ethan, along with Caleb, did the lion’s share of the work, experts with every part of the job, from demo to cabinet installation to trim out/finishing work. They put up plastic walls to contain the dust. They consistently wore masks inside our home, and worked to not only get it all right, but to be sure we were happy with what was being done. Lots of communication and everything was tracked in the CQC app.Every construction remodel we’ve done in the past was nowhere near as organized and focused on doing the right thing. Example: We went out of town during the initial demo. We wanted the refrigerator moved so we could have access, but somehow, when the crew left on Friday, a breaker was turned off by mistake leaving the fridge with no power. We returned on Sunday to find all the food rotten. I contacted CQC via their app, and they responded within the hour. They apologized, offered to come clean out the fridge & pay for the food lost and fix any damage to the floor. We had already cleaned it out and figured out the breaker it was on, no floor damage. We agreed on a $150 gift card as a replacement. The job was near completion, but we never got the gift card. Ultimately, CQC surprised with a $250 credit to our final bill. It was an honest mistake, but they went above and beyond to make it right.Now that the job is complete, we’re very happy with the results! I have to call them to adjust a couple of drawers and replace a light switch. This is all covered under warranty. I’m confident they will handle this quickly and professionally, consistent with everything theyve done the whole time working with us.

The entire CQC team did an excellent job on our complex project to add a master suite to our second story. Always there will be surprises and detours when renovating an older home, and I always felt that the hiccups and changes were handled professionally - this was clearly not Justins first rodeo. As for Justin - I consider him a friend now, and I am sure we will keep in touch.Perhaps it is unusual to feel a bit sad at the end of a renovation project - most people I know are simply glad to have it finished. We had CQC Home do a kitchen remodel for us. It was a total gut job...where you take it down to the subfloor and studs. We had new windows installed, walls taken out, siding, and a completely new floorplan for the kitchen. Kelly was amazing to work with as a designer. I recommend CQC for any remodeling project. They did a wonderful job of finishing our attic space, adding a new living space and bathroom to our home. Wes, Jon and Chad performed high quality work and respected my family’s health and safety during the COVID pandemic. Justin, our project leader, kept the project on schedule and provided timely responses to my requests. My family couldn’t be happier with the results!

We were left in a bad situation when an unscrupulous construction contractor walked away and did not finish our sunroom addition after more than one year had passed from when he started the project. That contractor left the structure open to the elements, interior unfinished with no flooring, incomplete drywall, faulty electrical, code violations, and poor-quality workmanship overall in a number of areas including roof, siding, and deck.We found CQC Homes and their honesty which came through in their Durham story made us feel hopeful. John Shimer, CQC sales manager, met with us and we presented to him our problem. John was very empathetic and sorrowful that the person we had dealt with left us in this terrible situation and such is what gives construction contractors a bad name. John was sensitive to the losses we already incurred and discounted the charge for their standard feasibility study. Raymond Orzulak, designer/estimator, did a thorough quality assessment of the existing structure and created a detailed cost and schedule estimate to complete the sunroom. Raymond went over the estimate with us, explained the document and answered our questions. The proposal was realistic for getting us to a finished sunroom, even though estimate cost of corrections and finishing was substantial.Shawn Norstrud was assigned as our construction manager and Justin Koch was assigned as our project manager. They were both empathetic with us about the bad state left by the previous contractor. After our startup meeting with Shawn and Justin, we felt good about them taking on our project and we felt hopeful that all pertaining to the sunroom would be finished professionally.Justin stayed on top of things, coordinated the work with the subcontractors with the least inconvenience to us, and he communicated with us regularly and maintained an up-to-data status record of the project. Led by Wesley Hall, the carpentry work on our structure was cleaned up a lot with more attention to detail. All of the other subcontractor teams that Justin deployed did high quality work, completed their segments generally on schedule and on budget, and they kept the job site neat. After a major inspection phase, Eric Adams went diligently through a punch list and applied finishing touches of cleaning, hardware install, paint touchup, grounds work, and other. Justin and Shawn were always easy to contact anytime we had questions or concerns and they responded right away and acted swiftly. All of our city/county inspections have now passed. There remains a final fix needed on the flooring between our dine and sunroom. Justin has been most accommodating to make sure the final adjustments are just the way we want it, and he has been consistent in making sure we were in agreement and were satisfied all along the way.We felt terrible after the horrible, unscrupulous previous construction contractor walked off and left us in a mess. CQC Homes came in, re-did faulty work, and finished our sunroom and deck and met our expectations. They made our new sunroom a beautiful space. This structural addition to our house has a nice curb appeal and neighbors are complimenting us.We highly recommend CQC Homes for home renovation and construction needs. They are honest, trustworthy and dependable, and they provide a highly skilled team committed to customer satisfaction.

We hired CQC to remodel our kitchen, master bathroom and fix up some things throughout the house, including the other two bathrooms and the laundry room. We are absolutely delighted with how our renovations came out.Estimates regarding time and cost were very accurate. Since we had so much work to be done, we moved out of our house, put our household good in storage and turned our house over to CQC Home to do what had to be done at the beginning of November. They told us at then, that the final walk through would be on January 9th. And in two months and one week later, despite the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, we had our final walk through at 4:30 pm on January 9th and the list of remaining punch items were small in number and minor in scope.CQC Home manages additional rental properties near their office, so we were able to rent from them a comfortable bungalow for the time it took to do the renovations at a reasonable price rather than have to find accommodations on our own for the relatively brief period of time.Communications throughout the entire process were impressive in their transparency. We always knew what was going on and there were never any surprises. Members of the CQC Home staff answered all of our questions and addressed all of our concerns with the highest level of professionalism. There was clear coordination with other vendors. The new oven and microwave fit properly into the new cabinetry, despite it coming from different organizations. The granite counter tops fit precisely on the new cabinetry in the kitchen and all three bathrooms. The wood flooring matched the wood flooring we had in our foyer area.It is clear that CQC Home is interested in providing high quality workmanship and that they stand behind the work that they do. All work passed local inspectors the first time, avoiding having to do rework to bring things up to code. When we discovered we had a leak under the kitchen sink, the plumber they subcontract out to was there the following day, found what turned out to be both problems, fixed them then and there without incurring any additional expense to us.In speaking with friends who have had renovation work done, it is usually to relate some dreadful experience of missed deadlines, additional expenditures, constant miscommunication and the like. We had none of that with CQC Home. They did what they said they would do. They finished the work when they said it would be done. And they stand behind the work that was done.We are enormously impressed with their integrity and would not hesitate to hire them again if we ever needed to do any renovation work. We enthusiastically recommend them to anyone considering doing home renovations.

Contacted CQC for our front entrance and stair remodel. We are extremely pleased with all aspects of the project and we have added value to our home with this remodel. The project manager/site contractor Justin Koch was involved with all aspects of the project, he gave us updates when needed and maintained the work schedule as promised from start to the finish of the project. From start to finish CQC was great to work with during our kitchen renovation. We were nervous the design portion would feel overwhelming but their designer Mac helped guide us along the way for a stress-free experience. Jess was great helping us stay within our budget and finding ways to make our vision come to life. Once we made it to demo and construction, Shawn and Justin made sure to communicate what would be happening each day and kept us up well informed on the progress of the project which took about 7 weeks. We never felt like we couldnt bring any concerns to their attention and when we did, they were quick to resolve the issue. Our renovation took place during the Coronavirus pandemic and they did everything in their power to be as safe and as clean as possible while still maintaining their high quality of work. Since we were home during most of the construction due to the virus, it was a nice opportunity to get know their team better. CQC came strongly recommended from a friend, and after our experience we would strongly recommend them to others as well.

CQC Home transformed our master bathroom from an outdated, boring mess to a modern marvel. Everything from inception to project completion and punch list was carefully thought out, 3D rendered and skillfully executed. They cleaned up their mess as they went along. CQC Management was flexible, open to suggestions and worked with us on the pricing. CQC did a master bath remodel for us in Oct 2019. We were extremely pleased with the process, the communication at every step and the quality of work, from the design phase through completion. CQC was very responsive to our requests, kept us informed on a day to day basis and were very organized with respect to work flow and subcontractors. In particular, our primary point person, Justin Koch, was terrific and completely accessible even on weekends. In addition Noah Wes and Shawn, who were the next levels up were great. The only downside was the process took a little longer than expected. CQC worked diligently to make sure we were happy with the process and worked with us to ensure everything was perfect.

Initially there were high hopes for working with CQC, however after repeatedly not being listened to and nickel and dimed during the contract phase, I decided to cut my losses and Not go under contract with this company, however they still did get $400 and a whole lot of my time. They didnt seem to care much if I was a client or not in the end, and were not interested in why I chose to walk away. A curt goodbye = an honest review.

Went to the office last week to fill out an application to become a subcontractor and the receptionist was really nice and friendly, she even printed out some copies for me without even asking. LaTina was really nice as well, she emailed me in a very professional manner, great grammar and punctuation. Would definitely go back again to fill out an application.

I am absolutely thrilled with the way our kitchen remodel turned out. THRILLED.My husband and I moved into our home in August 2016. The kitchen was livable, but we knew we were going to have to invest in a remodel eventually. The next summer, we bit the bullet and started getting estimates. CQC was by far the most impressive in terms of communication and customer service. Even if their portfolio hadnt been so nice, we might have still hired them for that reason.The design process was pretty easy and fun. Ken and Ericka really welcome you into the family right away (and introduce you to their dogs, if youre into that--and you really should be). Kelly created several designs for us to choose from, using intel from conversations as well as my Houzz and Pinterest boards, and she *really* understands how folks use a kitchen. I dont have the brain for moving walls and changing the layout, but Kelly does! And when it came to picking design details, Ericka and Kelly provided helpful input, but really let me take over.Once we got started, Raymond was our go-to and he was at our house A LOT. This guy is a workaholic! (And we were grateful for it, because being without a kitchen for 5-6 weeks is pretty brutal and you want it over with as soon as possible.) The other guys on the team and the subcontractors were all really nice and did great work, too.The process wasnt without some mistakes and hiccups, but CQC provided options (when possible) and made everything right (at no extra cost to us) in the end. Our kitchen is more beautiful and more functional than I could have imagined when we bought our home with a remodel in mind.

When I started looking for a contractor, I stumbled on CQC through a Facebook post. I thought the picture was pretty....but....I KNEW I had to find someone who paid extreme attention to detail, was honest, genuinely cared about the work being done, and had good communication skills to boot. Basically, I was looking for my husband, who is also a contractor in the area, but specializes in a different area. TALL ORDER.Enter CQC. I decided to make an appointment with the owner Kenneth Combs. First impressions go a long way. He was on time, courteous, respectful of my thought process, patient, and clearly knowledgable. CQC was the first and last company I interviewed with for my sizable project. Nervous? Heck yeah! I knew if this didnt go well, it was all on ME.From the initial design process (done in their studio) to financial considerations (Why cant I have the $200/sq. ft kitchen tile??? - You CAN, its just going to cost you a gazillion dollars....) to implementation and finish - Im telling you, this project was nothing but a pleasant process. BIG shout out to Raymond Orzulac who was our superintendent EXTRAORDINAIRE - truly the MacGyver of carpentry, and his trusty side kick Mike Dean. Not once did they shy away from my many questions, They had knowledgable suggestions, and their handy work was bar none. Just a terrific experience. Side note - they arent snobs. I LIKED that. Its nice to feel comfortable asking a question, without feeling like you are being talked down to. I had that with a local hardwood floor company.If you are looking for a company for your construction project, and you want it done in a timely fashion with expert advice and quality craftsmanship, you need to seriously consider CQC for the work. It gives me great pleasure to recommend them so highly.... Weve done minor renovations before, but never a complete overhaul that involved moving walls. Im grateful to CQC for making the big one a good experience.We took our time in planning our kitchen remodel. Soon after we kicked off the process, life got in the way and we had to put things on hold for many months, but CQC did not hurry us. They were ready to pick back up when we were.Their online Co-Construct tool is a great blessing to help keep track of all the details of such a big undertaking; it makes communicating a breeze. In addition, weekly meetings with Dickon and Ray were always a pleasure - they were detail-oriented, efficient, thorough, and just generally pleasant to work with.The normal issues that arose in any construction project were always handled quickly and with great courteousness. When we needed a healthy dose of creative problem-solving due to some particularly odd features in our homes original construction, CQC had excellent solutions. Many of those unexpected additions are now my favorite parts of the new room.Most importantly, the project finished beautifully and on time (even a little early).We are happy with the results and would use CQC again for future projects. CQC was fantastic. We had them design and install 3 massive windows (over 11 high windows) in the vaulted ceiling area of our living room. After getting quotes from numerous contractors, CQC was the best, coming back with a very competitive price, but even more than that, they immediately understood what we were wanting and they were able to design it. Their 2 year guarantee sealed the deal. The process from quote to design was quick and they were very responsive with our feedback, going through multiple design iterations until we landed on exactly what we wanted. My wife and I had a restrictive timeline, which CQC was willing to work within. The guys who did the construction were not only great at what they did, but they were kind and considerate. They cleaned the construction site before leaving each day and made sure the finished product was exactly what we envisioned. They even came back twice to clean the windows! Called them to a hang a swing on our front porch and they were responsive and worked us in quickly. I worked with Chris Sherrin on the small projects team at CQC. We had a shower leak that another contractor quoted us thousands of dollars to fix. Chris was extremely friendly and offered his candid expert opinion - to start small and clean out the grout and then apply silicone. He offered to do it himself or said we can do it self-service. It took us 15min to make the fix and the shower leak issue was fixed. Chris gave us several follow-up calls and his quality of service was STELLAR, especially given that his support was not part of a big payday for CQC. I appreciated the expert advice and I wont hesitate to call CQC when we have an actual problem next time, thanks again!

We had a great experience with Jamie and Ken. They were very responsive and helped walk us through the process of preparing for their estimate. Our situation changed and we ended up not needing the service right now, but would highly recommend and will definitely call them first if we ever need renovation work in the future!

I cant say enough good things about my experience with CQC. From the intro meeting, to the design phase, through to completion, CQC was a fantastic partner in our renovation. Our project was a significant one that took nearly the entire house down to the studs and included structural changes, a full kitchen, living room, master bedroom, and master bath reboot. This experience showed me that going with a design / build firm is absolutely the way to go on any significant renovation project. Throughout the process there are undoubtedly going to be design and construction questions that pop up, and having all the experts under the same roof totally removes any friction there may otherwise be with independent subcontractors. The results have been absolutely spectacular and I whole heartedly recommend CQC. We will definitely be using them in the future.

Excellent work by Ken and his crew at CQC. I called him on Wednesday afternoon told him I needed a new roof and I was ready to do it. By Thursday he had me an estimate with shingle choices ready. He told me it would take 2 days. The crew showed up on time Tuesday morning, very professional and ready to go. They updated me when they left Tuesday evening and arrived back early on Wednesday. They finished Wednesday afternoon . When they finished, the foreman walked with me around the whole house, checking the roof and for trash in the yard. Everything was great, they cleaned up and did a super job. Ken called me twice to update me and check on things. This was not one of his really big budget jobs, but I feel like he paid as much attention to me on this job as if I was his biggest customer. I highly recommend Ken and CQC because they do great work.

Amazing work, incredible service.. Stephanie really understood our design needs/wants. Shawn is OCD (in a good way) and made sure every detail was perfect. Justin made sure everything was just how we wanted it and did a great job keeping us informed on the work progress.June 2019 update - just finished a second project with CQC and still 5 stars! We initially went with a slightly lower-priced contractor, but consequently regretted that decision because they did an unprofessional job and created a plumbing mess that lead to more time, more stress, and became more costly for us.Having CQC previously worked on our master bathroom, I contacted Justin in the evening around 6pm. The next day Justin, Shawn, and Dickon were at our house by 1:00pm to discuss a plan moving forward.Shortly after that meeting, we had a ceiling leak related to the plumbing mess. We messaged CQC at 10pm to see what they can do, not expecting a response til the next day. However, Dickon responded right away and Justin was already in touch with the plumber. The plumbers along with Justin were at our house the next morning and the ceiling leak was resolved by 9:50am! (within 12hrs!) If you had any water leak, you know how stressful that can be.A side note, we were also expecting and due around the time all this happened. Justin and the crew acknowledged that without asking and they worked diligently to get our hallway bathroom done as soon as possible.Their communication is prompt and they deliver professional, skillful craftsmanship. Everyone that came to our house were polite and had good etiquette.

The CQC team did an outstanding job of completing a grand overhaul of our mid-century modern house. The job involved significant structural work and a lot of details, and the team were always responsive and enthusiastic, and the finished work product is outstanding - such that our architect is now recommending them to other clients! Ray was extremely professional and dedicated, and did a beautiful finished job - and hes also a favorite with the dogs now. Dickon also was really helpful with pulling the whole project together and communicating status and needed decisions (and helping with numerous other parts), and Shae clearly communicated financial information making cost control clear and understandable. I have been working with CQC for years and am always so impressed with how professional, positive and friendly they are - from their owners, office staff and designers to their employees working out on jobs sites. I needed a contractor to do some bathroom fan work, and had multiple contractors either ghost or decline the job. Chris and his small jobs crew at CQC really came through.The job was bid well within my cost expectations and was accepted.Once the work was agreed upon, the job was scheduled for the Monday after thanksgiving. Michael was prompt and courteous, and completed the work.However, his drywall work wasnt up to Chriss or CQCs standards (I understand, as drywall is as much art as it is skill) so he insisted that his Drywall and Paint team come by Thursday day to put a finish quality coat on.Things got a little off the rails at this point, as the drywall team went a bit above and beyond and patched the bathroom walls in addition to the ceiling. When the painter came back later in the afternoon, the mud hadnt fully dried so we had to reschedule the paint.Painter was supposed to come back at 0900 on Saturday AM, however there was a mild mis-communication and he arrived bright and early at 0730. Apart from being surprised, this was no big deal, as the job was finished earlier. In addition, due to the over-achievement by the drywall crew, the team went ahead and painted the entire bathroom.All the team members were polite and left no trace of their doing work when they left. (no messes, spills, or construction debris left around. They even went so far as to pack their trash out with them vs using the available cans.)Overall, I got more than I bargained for (hello full bathroom repaint!), and the work quality is great. I will be more than happy to call on CQC for other jobs or refer anyone looking for a team to assist on their jobs.

We hired CQC to help design and remodel our old outdated kitchen and downstairs area. While we had a good idea of what we wanted, we lacked understanding of what was required. With the help of the design team, they took the time to understand what our vision was and provided little tweaks that resulted in a functional and good-looking plan and layout.After going thru the building plan (which was very detailed), the contract was signed, and the building commenced. Our main carpenter, Justin Koch, was very skilled and competent in adhered to the specifications made during the design phase. He had a plan to address all unforeseen issues and was able to address all our concerns and questions along the way. Justin was onsite nearly every day of scheduled work and managed the subcontractors beautifully. With the support of Shawn Norstrud, the build went flawlessly, and they completed everything 2-weeks ahead of schedule!!Along with the quality work provided by Justin and Shawn, and the design team, the best part of working with CQC is the feeling they gave that our project was as important to them as it was to us.
