I called Hays to diagnose the issues we were experiencing with our AC unit. Devan Phaneauf came out same-day. He was professional, knowledgeable, attentive, and willing to answer every question I threw at him. Devan opened every panel and deconstructed various parts of our HVAC system to identify any potential problems - more thorough than the two other companies I had come out in the past few months. Devan identified and fixed the issues we were experiencing within the afternoon for nearly 33% less than these other companies quoted me for. He also completed two other minor repairs, which he identified during his evaluation. I couldnt have asked for more. I will be calling Hays again with any future HVAC issues, and they will be my first recommendation to anyone that asks.

We have had a series of unfortunate events related to our HVAC and it literally exploded one evening, Hay’s was so quick to come out the next day, evaluate the issue and install a new unit same day!They have been wonderful to talk to over the phone and know person, our HVAC is now running the best it ever has. We have been very impressed with their customer service and always super friendly technicians. We recently resigned our yearly maintenance agreement and will continue to use them. I highly recommend!Thank you Hay’s for getting out HVAC issues solved and corrected!

I have used them for years at my old house, and current. Over the years there have been moments. However, the final straw was when I had an appointment scheduled for a tune up and the tech called to leave me a vm stating he was on the way. It was one and a half hours later, but was fine since I was home anyways. He never showed up. I called in a few weeks later to reschedule and the receptionist never apologized for the job. In fact, there was a note stating I was not at home (I work from home). Regardless, she made me feel as though it was my fault. Zero apologies. On the call I decided to not reschedule and to give my money elsewhere as her response was unsettling. Very unprofessional.

Brad was AMAZING!!! When our air conditioner stopped working last night, we were worried that it would be days before someone would be out to look at it. We woke up and the house was 10 degrees warmer than when we went to bed. We were told that someone would be out at noon, Brad called and asked if he could come earlier. He was masked, SUPER communicative, and professional. He not only solved the issue, but showed us how to fix it in the future and he cleaned our system. We are now sitting in a MUCH cooler house. Several of my HVAC units were struggling to cool given the 95+ degree temperatures. I called Hay’s and they sent Brad out to see what was going on. Hay’s installed the HVAC units 15 years ago. Brad wore a mask. He cleaned all of our units and added refrigerant. Brad worked swiftly and efficiently. He was extremely polite and personable. My house is cooling again. Thank you Hay’s and Brad.

I would highly recommend this company. I had to have a complete system installed, so I did research to see exactly what ton and seer HVAC system was recommended for my size house. I had asked a few friends and co-workers who they would recommend. I got a few names and Hays Heating and Air Conditioning was the first one I contacted. Called them late in afternoon. They had someone come first thing next morning. He crawled under house.....looked at everything, told me I would have quote by the afternoon. I received the quote that afternoon, they recommended exactly the size unit I thought I needed and at a very fair price. Didnt need to seek any additional quotes. I immediately accepted the quote and scheduled them to come. They showed up on time and in force. The entire process was done very professionally. They were courteous and polite and had patience answering my questions. My old equipment and all trash was hauled away. Could not be happier.

What a great experience! I called Hays and the office staff was so accommodating and friendly. They communicated clearly professionally. the technician called me about 30 min before arriving, quickly diagnosed the issue and have me a clear understanding of the issue. My unit was back up and running within 30 minutes. I really appreciate the technician explaining things to me without trying to sell me a new unit or additional parts. Over all a great experience at a reasonable price.

I called Hays around 1:00 in the afternoon on a Friday when I realized the temp in my home was going up and up even though it was running. I work from home so I did not have the luxury of going to an air conditioned office. I spoke to a representative, who was very pleasant, who said a technician would be at my home late afternoon. I was expecting to hear that there was no availability that day and that I would have to wait until Monday. By that time the temp outside was 90 degrees, if not more, and I knew that air conditioner companies are VERY busy this time of year but the rep assured me that someone would come. When the tech arrived, which was only a few hours after I called, the temp in my house was 88 degrees and I was miserable!! Shawn, who was also very nice and professional, checked out the unit in my attic and then worked on the outside unit. He replaced a part and said that my home would start to cool shortly afterward. Needless to say I was very grateful and pleasantly surprised that I was able to have a service call within a few hours on one of the hottest days AND it was a Friday! By the time I went to sleep my home was comfortably cool. I was very satisfied with the prompt and excellent service I received from Hays.

Two days ago my air conditioning unit broke. It is one of the hottest weeks we’ve had so far and I have two dogs and two cats at home who are burning up. I have been calling every heating and cooling place in the area to try and get my air conditioning unit fixed. I called Hays Because they had such great reviews. Imagine my dismay when I get a phone call this morning letting me know that they are not taking any new clients. What is this, a doctors office? How can you not be servicing the people in your area? I get that because this is likely a busy time of year most places are not going to be able to get me serviced in a quick timeframe, but I would never expect that the heating and cooling place would be so callous towards the general public as to say they are not accepting new clients. I cannot believe that they possibly have enough business that they cannot take the time to schedule in one person especially when it is the hottest time of the year. I also feel that this would have been best listed on their website rather than me wasting my time having to call and hoping that I can get an appointment scheduled. I cannot speak to the quality of their service as they will not service me, however based on this one interaction I can definitely say that even if they were taking new clients at this point I would not become one of them. Highly disappointed.

For the price they charge it would be nice to feel they cared about peoples time. Saying you will be there at 8:30 am and not showing up until after 12, then say they are going to lunch was very disrespectful. Our electrician took off of work just to have a day wasted. On the second day of their return and what we was told would be a 2 day job they left and didnt have the courtesy to tell us. That second day being a Friday we had to wait until Monday for them to return and still had to come back on Tuesday. We are not residential, we are a small local cafe and depend on every cent we make. We lost a lot of money on these days due to poor and lack of communication. When you are going to be late it would be nice to give a courtesy call. We had to call each time to see where and when they would be at our location. I even called on Saturday to see if they was coming since they left without saying anything on Friday, I was told they would call me back. I even had them repeat my number. That call back never happened. The new guy was the only one who showed he cared and said he was sorry. For over $7000 it looks like they would care more, at the end of the day they got their money and we lost money.

I called Hays heating and air-conditioning after discovering that my heat was not working properly. I was able to make an appointment for a technician to come out within just a couple hours to my house. The technician called 20 minutes before arrival to make sure I was at home. When he showed up he had a smile on his face and a presentable clean uniform. He removed his shoes before entering my home. After investigating my system he gave me a couple options of replacing a part or replacing my system. Since I had an older system and was looking for a more environmentally friendly system he gave me three options of systems to choose from. He was very attentive to my request and needs for this new system and answered all of my questions there on the spot. I told him I needed to speak with my husband that night, he was very respectful of this decision and let me know that he would call me in the morning. The next morning he called just as he said he would and we were able to set up an appointment for that day to install my new system. The technician from Hays heating and air-conditioning went through everything with me to make sure that I knew everything there was to know about my new system and how to work it.Overall this was a great experience and I have recommended Hays to my friends and family. Great job Hays!

We got bids from five companies late last summer to replace our 15-yr old heating & AC - ranging from $7,500 to $14,000. Hays provided the clearest, most straightforward information about system options, performance, efficiency ratings, warranties and prices. It was all in writing with detailed model numbers. None of the other companies matched their level of detail and explanation. No hard sell or pressure. They weren’t the cheapest but were at the lower end since we got a discount for waiting till October to install. They showed up on time with a 3-man crew and finished in one day. Neat, courteous, professional. Over this past winter the Trane system has been a lot quieter than our old one and lowered heating bills. Very satisfied with Hay’s.

I cannot say enough great things about this company. I called in the morning to have someone come out and look into the musty smell from our AC and they were at our house by 10am. The technician, Sean, was outstanding. We went with the service plan they offer where they come twice a year to inspect/service your system prepping for AC and Heat use. Brilliant choice! I hit the call button at 11am and discussed my A/C issues with Susan; who set the expectation that one of three technicians would be contacting me while on their way.By 11:09 am, my tech, Anthony, had contacted me with a 5 minute eta. He and Susan were both very professional, courteous, and efficient. After a brief discussion, and inspection, the issues were confirmed and remedied.Anthony continued on to his next stop half an hour ago, and it is now officially 3° cooler here. This was very important to me, as my wife suffers migraines from the heat. Especially while its been too hot to sleep well. At this rate it should be very comfortable by the time she gets home. Bitterly disappointed in my most recent experience. Had used Hays for service multiple times over multiple years. When I called with an emergency yesterday I asked to please let me know if they wouldnt be able to come before the early afternoon on Tuesday as I had a guest due to arrive and would like to be able to call another vendor this time around to ensure everything was fixed in time. Was assured Id be taken care of only to be told this morning that they couldnt guarantee any service at all today. When I asked why they couldnt tell me that yesterday after I specifically asked and had now lost the opportunity to get serviced by anyone in time, they had the audacity to tell me that I hadnt received service from them since 2017 so I must not really value them anyway. I will never call again and will encourage everyone I know to stay away too. Very disappointed, as previous service had always been great.

My experiences with Hays have always been satisfactory. My family has been working with Hays for years and have never had a problem or complaint with service. The technicians, as they arent always the same, never seem to have trouble with locating my home and have never been late. Very prompt as well as efficient, and i can say that i am completely comfortable with the technicians being inside of my home as my experiences have shown me they are professional and friendly. That is very important. When i am in need of such services there is no question of who to call because i know Hays will more than do the job, and at a rate that is decent and affordable. I like that the technicians are always knowledgeable and well equipped with the necessary tools to help with my heating and or AC needs. I always highly recommend Hays Heating and Air Conditioning to anyone who is needing services in the heating and ac field.

Im giving one star only because the onsite tech was very professional. Otherwise, I wish there could be negative stars. We signed up for yearly maintenance plan and paid upfront. We were due a fall checkup and no one came out. I e-mailed them and never got a response, tried calling and was never put in contact with anyone. Not only is it disappointing, but they just took our money and forgot about us. Very bad business practices.

They provided service at two rental locations. They came promptly however the service that they provided didnt work. They claimed on the invoice that both air conditioning units were operational. I called them because one was not operational. They did fix one of the units so that it worked and continues to work. The other did not work after they left and I had another company come in who showed me a chunk of ice that had broken the heater...which Hays neglected to find. I was very happy with the second companys work (Boer Brothers Heating & Cooling). I paid Hays Heating and Air Conditioning Inc. because my time is too valuable to squabble with them; However...beware if you ask them to work. They are not efficient. And of course they didnt replace the air filters either. So I paid them over $350. for nothing. Hays Heating...avoid, AVOID, AVOID! unless you want a repair that lasts less than a day.

I have been a customer of Hays since they installed my heating & air system in November 2016. Great system and great PM from their techs since then. But now they have exceeded my expectations. The day after the 8 snow fall, my 89 year old neighbor found herself without any source of heat when her system stopped working. Her company told her they could not get their trucks out and could not service her that day. I notified Hays of the problem. Anthony responded within a few hours and fixed the problem. Thank you, Anthony. You represent Hays well. Needless to say, my neighbor is switching her service to Hays.

A friend of mine told me about Hays Heating and Air in Hillsborough. I called that day and a technician came the same day. We had someone come out and give us an estimate for work. They quoted us a price and gave us a time frame to expect a call back to get on the schedule. That was 4 weeks ago. We have had to call Hays several times - each time with a promise that someone would call us back the next day to get on the calendar. 10 days ago I called and was told that they misquoted my work, and that it would be $300 higher than the quote I was given. When I explained that I was given a quote the day of, she said they forgot some of the things that were needed for the quote, but agreed to adjust the quote down so it was only $100 higher than the original quote. They also agreed to schedule the work for August 6th. I asked her if that was a firm date and she said yes. She didnt have a time for when they would come out because the actual scheduler was at lunch. Its August 6th - 3pm - and still no Hays. I called and was just told that because they have had so many air conditioners out, they couldnt get out to my house. No call - No show. We took off of work to be here. Their excuses have ranged from being understaffed, to overworked as to why they couldnt have called me or come out. I told them from the beginning that I needed the work done prior to 8/9 because I had company. No call - no show - and said they would try to reschedule for the week of 8/13. Completely unprofessional and inconsiderate. I am voting with my feet and they will not get my work now OR in the future.

My husband and I have personally done business with Hays for decades and when I had a situation with our ACs at my office during the first 90 degree days of the year, my husband asked Hays to come. Despite being super busy, they worked us in, were at the office in less than 3 hours and had us running in a matter of hours. This included a lot of crawling in the attic and diagnosing problems. Our technician was knowledgeable and courteous and when he explained everything to our in house engineer, was found to be completely honest. This has always been my experience with the Hay family and I was glad to share it with my company. Hay will be coming back to diagnose the leaks we have in this huge system as soon as the rush of the season is over. You cant go wrong using Hays HVAC. They are honest and have great values, both the company and personally as owners.

We recently had a problem with our HVAC AC system. A technician came out the SAME day we called. This was compared to the week or two wait for two other Durham AC companies we called. Hays diagnosed it as a broken valve with the Freon system. They were able to replace the part and get our AC system back up and working the NEXT day. Hays even worked with our manufacturer warranty to reduce the cost. Excellent service!

I really wish I could have had the experience so many other users have had here. I got a few quotes and Hays was the nicest and seemed easiest to work with. I was wrong.I shouldve figured it out when none of the features of the units they suggested were reviewed or explained with any detail. There was no analysis of the issues with a clear reason as to why the equipment they chose would work. Other companies ran down how the systems worked in detail. I just liked a family owned business and the good reviews here really made me feel good about the decision. I wont trust reviews on Google again. I didnt want to write a bad review because everyone has a bad day sometimes. But man these guys are consistently bad and I couldnt believe the good reviews here.We had 2 systems installed (upstairs/downstairs), both identical. They started the upstairs system incorrectly and ruined the compressor on the upstairs unit. (I figured that out on my own.) The system wouldnt blow cold air. It took them 7 attempts to fix it. I had project managers come who couldnt read or understand thermostats, technicians that didnt know what they were doing, etc. Id get someone to show up and they would suggest a different cause every time. I had to keep insisting something was wrong to get them to fix the actual problem. They finally replaced the compressor and I got the cold air I paid for. And I paid a lot for it. It took over a month to get our AC fixed. It was 80*+ inside for days.Now its Fall ... and the heater doesnt work (upstairs unit again). I call to get service, they give me a time to show up. That time comes and goes, I get a call that they cant make it (obviously). Here we go again with broken promises and a broken (brand new and expensive) heater. I hope they show up today. Itd be nice to have the house above 64 at night with a baby.Overall I regret using Hays. And now Im stuck with this decision for years. I do suggest getting a new system in the Spring or Fall so if you do have problems, its not so hot or cold that your house is unlivable.

Between the two of us, we have many, many occasions throughout any year to call on Hays Heating and Air Conditioning. Hays has our full loyalty and respect.They have always been trustworthy, responsive and very accurate. We have experience with Hays Heating & Air Conditioning with new construction homes as well as repairs on HVAC units of all ages and brands. I have had experience with many other HVAC companies but not since I started using Hays in 2008. I always recommend them when asked. This is truly an A+ company!

We are cooling about 4000 sq ft in a retail area ( The Clock Depot ) on Westgate Dr in Durham. One of our two units failed and I called Hayes to complete any repairs needed. They promptly scheduled an appt and I received a courtesy call 20 minutes before the appt. The Hayes technician (Anthony) was right on time and completed the repairs in less than an hour. He was very specific with the analysis and completed the work at a very reasonable price. I have three other properties in Durham and will always use Hayes ongoing. We received promptness, great work and honesty you do not see in most chain operations.

These guys put a hole in my ceiling while working in the attic. I had to push (fight) extremely hard to get them to to get someone out the next day to fix the ceiling. 5 phone calls later, & they finally agreed to send someone. Our house was for sale, and their mistake cost us multiple showings. It also required me to take a 2nd day off from work. No follow up from them to confirm the ceiling fix was satisfactory, and no offer of a discount for the money they cost me with the house being for sale & having to miss work. Use a different company and avoid the headache.

Unreliable and discourteous. I made an appointment for Hays Heating & Air Conditioning to provide a quote for the replacement of my homes HVAC system on Wednesday 10/18/2017 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. After waiting at home the entire time, I called Hays a few minutes after 2:00. Susan addressed me by name, so obviously had my appointment on the schedule, yet nobody had arrived or even had the courtesy to inform me of any delays or issues. I was told that the technician was in a meeting and was asked to reschedule the appointment for a different day. I told Susan that I will not conduct business with a company that is so deeply disrespectful and discourteous of my time and commitment.
