For several years I have wanted to color my hair but was hesitant to end up with an unwanted color. After several consultations with local salons. I chose Rue 48 because the staff was friendly and helpful. During my consultation I showed Sarah multiple pictures of the color and look I was going for. She seemed to understand exactly what I was going for. I also liked that “All services include a complimentary head & neck massage as well as a stress-relieving hand treatment!” What more could you ask for in a day of treating yourself?So, I scheduled my long-awaited appointment. Finally, the day comes. With some anxiety I enter the salon. I talked with Sarah and again we went over the pictures of the color/look I wanted. She didn’t express any reservations or concerns, So I put my hair in her hands. Well… 3+ hours later. Exactly what I feared. I didn’t get the color I wanted, not even close. The pretty violet purple I wanted, came out blue/grey! You can still see my natural (brown) color where we discussed doing a full color from the shoulders down. And I didnt get the color framing my face. (see images below) Sarah told me to wash it a few times and see if it would help bring out the purple color I wanted. I don’t care how many times you wash blue/grey hair it’s not going to turn purple. I left the salon quickly, very disappointed, almost in tears. I had saved a long time to treat myself, only for it to come out completely wrong. And to top it off I didn’t get my complimentary head & neck massage and the stress-relieving hand treatment. A stress-relieving hand treatment would have been a nice bonus after this experience.I called the salon a few hours later and they got me in for a recolor the next day with Leanaya. I showed her the pictures of what I was going for. She was much more experienced in color. She told me they didn’t have the exact color in stock that I was looking for. That would have been nice to know the first time around. Leanaya brought out a color palette. We picked a few colors that looked good together. In the end the color didn’t come out the exact violet purple I wanted. But at least it was a shade of purple, NOT blue/grey. Once again, I was disappointed that I did not get my “complimentary head & neck massage as well as a stress-relieving hand treatment!” As advertised on their website. After spending two days of my vacation in a salon. I just wanted this experience to be over.Overall, my experience at Rue 48 was not what I expected. Sarah should have been honest during my consultation. She should have checked that they had the color I wanted in stock and told me that coloring hair wasn’t her expertise. She should have suggested I meet with Leanaya or another stylist with more color experience. I would have respected the staff, Sarah and Rue 48 for the honesty. Rather than just trying to get a client into the chair. Unfortunately, this experience has left a bad taste in my mouth for Rue 48.

Brought my Mother-in-law there on a whim while we were visiting. She lost a lot of her hair during chemotherapy and its now growing back, but she needed a cut. Her stylist made her feel beautiful and they were welcoming and affordable. Highly recommend this salon!

Very very sweet ladies! Was just traveling through town and mom needed her bangs trimmed! They were super nice, and helped right away. Even gave me a great cup of coffee!

I would like to tell you all that NO, this solan is NOT worth the money or time. I gave my stylist many pictures of the balayage, so she had something to reference. I told her I did NOT want blonde roots and to make it look more natural. She repeated everything back to me EXACTLY how I wanted it, I was super excited.However, when I looked in the mirror it was the exact opposite of what the picture looked like. I had lots of blonde roots lining my face, and everything else was the exact same as when I arrived. I said, “it’s cute but it wasn’t what I was hoping for but it’s still good”. I would have paid and tipped because this was a service provided to me. But, the stylist got VERY upset stating, “no one had EVER hated my hair”.I could tell she wanted me to leave, but I asked her what I did to confuse her and what I should be saying to other stylists to make it better next time. She was extremely upset and made me leave. VERY VERY unprofessional and will not be returning. Wish I could give zero stars instead of one.

We tried this day spa as part of a girls weekend getaway and were not disappointed. The massage was relaxing and included aromatherapy. The pedicure was amazing and much longer than we anticipated with all of the bells and whistles. The manicure was also nice. The staff were friendly and helpful. They were happy to provide ideas about where to eat, what to see and do while on our visit.

I found this spa on a Google search and had no idea what to expect. Their website was easy to navigate and find out which services were offered. I booked a surprise couples massage for my husband and I. Ive had many massages and can honestly say this was by far the best. My therapist, Hilary, asked me specifically what I wanted to get out of my time and followed my requests to a tee! It was amazing. The salon staff were all very friendly and accommodating and the atmosphere was clean and inviting, right in the heart of the canal.

I very highly do NOT recommend this salon. I recently moved to the area and thought that this facility would be a good place for a trial run. I was oddly surprised to find out that they had many opening the same day I called, red flag. Tried to go about 2inch shorter with my hair, she suggested about 3inches for it to be noticeable. It was about 4inches that ended up coming off and it is an uneven, choppy, and horrendous haircut.

I was just in there. We are visiting in the area and spent all day out. On our way back to the motel I called a salon for a hair cut but after waiting on hold for almost 4 minutes I decided to try another. Enter Rue 48. They had an opening for me and treated me like a queen. I didnt look the best but they couldnt care less. Thank you!

This salon does NOT have their organizational/scheduling in order at all. Ive never written a google review, but these guys screwed me over so much I decided it was worth my time.I had verbal confirmation TWICE that my bridal party was scheduled here for the day of my wedding. Then ONE MONTH before my wedding they called and said um so were closed on Sundays in September when you wanted your hair and make up done for your wedding - Sorry, we cant do it. Seriously? You didnt figure that out the other two times I talked to you?Also, in the beginning, the first time I tried to reserve the bridal party I sent the email to their wedding coordinator, and after not receiving a reply I called and was informed she no longer worked there (and apparently no one had thought to check her email for these wedding reservations that we were told to send to her).I have no idea if they are good once you get in, but they royally screwed me over for a rather important life event - beware if you are scheduling a bridal party. Were going to Vain Salon instead who has been nothing but wonderful.

Highly recommend if in the Duluth area! I was in town with my husband for work and needed to kill some time I was able squeeze in a facial with Tabitha and it was fantastic so relaxing everything I would expect for an Aveda facial. Afterwards I still had some free time so decided to get highlights and a cut with Kaila and the results were phenomenal! Everyone was super friendly! The salon was clean and pleasant! We had a little hiccup when it came time to check out but the staff was sweet, apologetic, and flexible with possible solutions. Cannot speak highly enough! I know other reviews have mentioned the salon being over priced but honestly it is the same pricing as almost every other Aveda salon out there! If your looking for a cheap service this isn’t your place, but quality wise it is fantastic!

A bride’s worst nightmare! Despite having prepaid scheduled appointments from 9 months prior - upon arriving at On The Canal Hair Salon, the bride was told that her hairdresser that had done her hair trial had resigned 4 months ago. No attempt was ever made to notify or communicate any of these issues with the bride. Tears were shed and the staff had absolutely no compassion for the bride, they stood there with attitude and no resolution, no refund nor an apology. They also refused to even go look for the file with all of the pictures that were previously emailed to them until the bride insisted about 4 times. She finally came back with a print out of tiny thumbnails of the images. A huge devastating surprise just a few short hours before the pre-ceremony photo shoot. They proceeded to tell her that they did not have the proper hair tools to do the requested vintage hairstyle since they belonged to the girl that had resigned. They then styled her hair so unprofessionally and inadequately that the bridal party had to scramble to locate the right curling tools and attempt to re-work the hair on their own. The hairdresser was not prepared to service the bride as contracted; the end result was absolutely appalling – her curls looked matted unstyled – The worst hair style imaginable! The bridesmaids attempted to locate a new stylist on the fly and ultimately were forced to try and re-work her hair back at the hotel, on their own which improved it – but was difficult considering the hair products, and curls done at the salon were so matted. The absolute worst experience ever. I would not recommend this salon whatsoever.

On the lake, light house, walk along lake, gift shops, good food, fresh air. What more do you want? A lift brigde, that is fun to watch, ships coming and going, love it!

Love the products and my stylist was able to fit me in and get me fixed up on very short notice during a snowstorm! Thats the kind of service you have to love! Thanks Chelsea!

Girls, it is not worth to spend $70 for their facial service.1.Karisa (not sure if I spell it right) on my task to do some blackheads extraction DID IT WITH HER FINGERS! Not to mention that it is no magnifying glass in room.2. She has long nails, which you will feel on your face during facial.3. Usually pleasure hands massage is not a pleasure there. Too much pressure almost a painful experience.4 And finally : very hot towels, which will burn your face.The only plus is great smell Aveda products.

I bought me and my boyfriend a couples massage for his birthday (about $150) while visiting Duluth and let me say the two women who worked on us did an amazing job ! They made the environment comfortable and peaceful and they get to know you and afterwards sit down and talk to you with a glass of water to stay hydrated . very nice salon I would definitely go again !

I got the most expensive facial which was the worst facial I ever got! To start off I heard the boy in the hall complain to his co-worker in the hall outside the room that he just wanted to go home which made me uncomfortable before we started. It was supposed to be am hour and a half, but ended up starting late and ending early. He was also flipping through an instruction manual the whole time as well. It was a huge waste of time and money!
