Started vehicle & screen read [2% oil level...change oil]. Asked associate who led me to mechanic. Mechanic scanned vehicle ID# & asked and where I was headed - 2 hours away. He went into his office, came back & said we were good. I asked if they would check the oil..he said, no need..I wouldnt send you that far if vehicle wasnt good to go. 2days later, the engine light comes on. I called Dollar Rent-DTW..closed on Sundays. Called customer service...they said if anything happens contact roadside assistance. Returned vehicle, advised associate of engine light...she suggested talking to front desk staff>ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE OFFERED. She said ok you can go. Only reason for 2 stars is fast service and decent vehicle. There was nearly half a dozen people in line and check-in took

Easily the worst Dollar on the planet. First the non-air conditioned, 15 min ride from the airport, followed by the realization that because Dollar, Thrifty and Hertz are all owned by the same company they are herding customers of all three brands into a single line with ONE rep. 20+ people in line. And no service for Express Members. AWFUL.

Dont rent from Dollar. It may look cheaper, but they dont tell you a thing at the window and will charge you extra hidden fees. It doubled my cost. Garbage staff wont tell you a thing, they just charge your card.

Dont do it, I tell you...DONT DO IT! Customer service is lacking. Checking in for a prearranged rental takes 20 mins per person. So, if you are 15 people behind....well, YOU DO THE MATH.

I’m not sure rather the customer service has gone down as a whole or if was just the agent that worked with me, but her attitude was horrible. I’m guessing maybe it has been a busy day or she’s had issues with other customers today, but that doesn’t excuse her attitude. Before today, I have never had an issue renting with Dollar. I wish I had gotten her name, but she was an older aged European woman wearing glasses. I rented my vehicle at 4:22pm today, 9/2/2021. She was upset because I booked through Thrifty and Dollar. She said “wow you’re a reason why the rates go up for other people, by double booing. She had an attitude because I was using a debit card, telling me that there would be a hold and I would need to have at least a 700 credit score to rent the vehicle. Then she tells me “This isn’t a real debit card, went had people rent cars and never return them.” The way she said it is as if she thought I planned on stealing an economy car. Unacceptable. I can only imagine how she talks to other young customers coming in to rent vehicles. She doesn’t even deserve to work there because that is not the “Dollar” I know. I was still able to get the car, but the way she made me fell was like in a sense of talking down on me. I didn’t like the way I was treated here today.

Never again. I usually do National or Enterprise but unfortunately they didn’t have any cars available for this trip. It can easily be over an hour waiting in line as they only staff with one employee. The single employee present during this visit was having a great time trying to chat with every single person... he was oblivious to everywhere throwing up their hands in frustration as he drug out every single transaction.

This place is a J.O.K.E. Prepaid for a rental and still got charged and extra $500 when I picked it up. And then magically had another $300 charge moments later. Absolutely ruined my trip. Just turned around and returned the vehicle in hopes of getting my money back. Got half of it and was told they don’t refund unused days. Thank you Dollar, for taking my hard earned money, that I planned on using to see my sick father and dog since I don’t know how much time either have left. I hope this company burns to the ground.

They had one person at the counter and 18 people in line after that poor counter person had handled 8 people a second person showed up to open a station and things got a little better than. When it was our turn the counter person told us itd be 15 minutes for a car to be made ready. And just wait for our name to be called. After waiting for 17 minutes, and seeing every of customer leaving with a car assignment, I went back up to the counter. The person was apologetic and walked us to to a car for us. The whole process took a little over 90 minutes which seems to be much longer than the process should take. Apparently Hertz has acquired dollar car rental and theyre both being served at the same counter, we noticed that the people going over to the Hertz car rental counter were getting better service and they were in and out much more quickly the Dollar car rental counter was again understaffed very slow to process. Apparently you do get what you pay for. We wont be using Hertz/ Dollar again anytime soon.

They have one employee here serving 30 customers, I’ve been in line for an hour so far and I’m half way there. She was very pleasant and as efficient as possible and that’s why I raised the stars from 1 to 4!

If I could I would give minus 20 stars. The girl at the desk, some laquisha, Mathisha, jenaqua or something just didnt want to give me the car I reserved one way to LA saying I dont have a ssn and cant do a security check. Well wake up miss, there are another tens of countries out there, you know, people living in OTHER COUNTRIES, very nice way of treating foreigners. And of course doing this left me with no car and no place to get one as there is a shortage of cars everywhere.

Arrived at 8:50. The location opens at 8 am. Representative walked in at 9:20 am and said nothing to anyone in the line. Never looked uo. Proceeded to log in, arrange his fan and do whatever on thr computer. Then called first person. No customer service experience, at all. No personality. Extremely slow. Never again.

I return experience was very poor Hertz is doing things for Dollar rental. Both the lady that was supposed to check in my car Dana would not help me she was backed up she said but nobody was waiting to get their car checked in but me the rest of the row cars there was nobody around. So I went inside and the lady at the desk wouldnt help me she said see Dana.Needless to say I wont be renting from dollar or Hertz again.My car wasnt ready when I got there there was none in the lot to take Im very nicely done for your car It had no gas in it.

Rented a car with 65k miles with original tires. One kept going down with a slow leak. Tried calling for over 2 hours. Finally gave up. I know the car rental industry is playing catch-up but if you rent cars at a premium price you should at least have enough people to answer your phones. Terrible service.

I went there December 19th around 12:30 pm to pick up a car I reserved online. Worst customer service experience ever. The lady’s working behind the counter were extremely rude to the customers in front of me. I wish I could of gotten their names and I would of called corporate. I witnessed the entire thing so attempted to be extra pleasant when I arrived at the counter. Still was treated with the worst attitude I think I’ve ever experienced in customer service. I can’t understand how they still have to job. They were running out of cars and people had to wait over an hour so I understand the stress but that is no excuse to treat people terribly. I ended up leaving and renting from Alamo instead. Customer service was super fast and friendly there.

Many other customers and myself had to wait 3 HOURS to get our car. I had booked & paid for our vehicle ahead of time online. We were told that there were cars in the lot, but because we didnt pay for the higher class of cars, they made us wait until one of our class was available. We got ZERO compensation for the tremendous amount of time wasted. No way to reach customer service because it was the weekend. Ridiculous! Our flight took less time than waiting for the car did.

Not impressed, they dont tell you about up grades costing you until you get there like navigation. I arrived to drop off my rental car at my scheduled time of 8pm and literally no one was there, empty parking lot. So I returned the next day and still no one was there. I called customer service and they couldn’t give me any info, told me to call roadside assistance. Turns out there’s a very unclear sign implying you should return at Hertz, but it doesn’t really tell you to return Dollar cars there: “Dollar | Thrift | Rentals and returns at Hurst” Overall cost me 2 extra hours of gas and driving. Not sure if anyone in Michigan even rents from Dollar but the solution seems easy: “Go to Hertz for Dollar and Thrift returns”

I rented a vehicle using my reward points for 12/29/19; come to find out the points were not applied to the rental. They claim I prepaid - why would I prepay if Im using points??? No resolve from customer support at Hertz or Dollar. So I ended up being charged from Hertz and Dollar for the rental. In fact, this is the second mistake on their part - I took a vehicle back after one day because something was hanging from under the hood. They exchanged the vehicle but charged me 142/day instead of the initial rental cost of 52.00. My bank account was over drawn and Im still trying to clear up the matter. I do still have points for that particular rental. But the principle is more important Ive been a loyal customer for quite some time and I think I deserve better. The extra star is because the walk in customer service at Detroit is great, the staff is awesome. Corporate can learn from them!!!

Pick up and drop off were easy. Car was just as expected. Beware of the easy refueling option however. This is not what it seems and will end up costing you big time. Sounded great, but you’re charged for the entire tank, not just for what you use. So what is sold to you at the counter for 2.77 really costs 4.30. Was not explained to us, and rental ended up costing us triple what was intended.

Had to be at airport by 4:30. Had drop off time of 4am. Nobody was present when I arrived at 3:45am. Parked car and left key between seats. First lobby door opened but second didnt... So pulled open and entered. Filled out information required and left on desk. Called our a few times..no answer. Could not find drop off instructions or shuttle ride info.Waited 15 min then walked to Enterprise and got on their shuttle, barely made my boarding.

The worst experience in my life :( Lady at desk was upset that I refuse to buy any additional coverage for the trip. So she intentionally “forgot” that I prepaid everything online with lower rates and overcharged me some 200$. It took me couple days to talk on the phone to get refund :( Also, I left my own car on the visitors parking lot while I rented their car for a couple of days (3-4 days). So, they tow away my car. Their Costumer Services (Dollar and Hertz-the owners of Dollar Car rental) NEVER answered to my complain!Choose more reliable company otherwise you might have the same “pleasant” experience that I had :(

Great price for an economy car, it was really easy to navigate their website and make a reservation. The wait for the shuttle from the airport to the facility was long. Additionally the wait to pick up my car was extremely long (over 45 minutes). Staff was very friendly and helpful (I used the video chat kiosk). Dropping off the car was really easy.

I normally do not rent from Dollar but my girlfriend recently had a very unhappy experience with the leading car rental company and so has forbidden me from renting from them. Delta had a link to Dollar when I made our airline reservations so I ended up using Dollar. Frankly, I was surprised how excellent the experience was. The bus from the airport to the lot was a brief wait. The driver not too talkative. The woman at the counter was a pleasure. I had the opportunity to actually select from about 5 - 10 different cars on the lot. I chose an Impala. The Impala has improved since I last rented one. I am tall and overweight and the Impala was roomier than my own Sonata. The return experience was also a breeze. I might actually make Dollar my first choice the next time i need a car - albeit the price will have to be right.

The shuttle from the airport to rental counter was short and the driver was courteous. There was no line other than the two other customers I rode with on the shuttle, which moved fairly quickly. I reserved my vehicle online and Im a Dollar Express member so my everything moved swiftly at the counter. The only issue I had was that I went through about three vehicles before I was able to leave, which is why I gave four stars. Two out of the three vehicles were due for an oil change. One of the vehicles was actually reserved for someone else. For the inconvenience I was upgraded at no extra. Overall, the staff were really nice and accommodating.

Detroit Metro Airport has the most inconsiderate representatives at the desk. Rude, unprofessional and outright mean. The car I rented had bad wipers and it was snowing outside. the temp was below -6 degrees. The only other car in my isle had a broken window with plastic covering it. When I opened the door to change cars, I notice a ton of snow on the seat, plastic in the open window. With the temp hovering at -6 I did not want to walk back to the rental desk so I drove to the office and waited for someone who was outside checking in cars. I told him that the wipers were bad and needed new ones. He tried to brush the snow off but the wipers still would not clean off the windshield. He said to go get another car. The only other car in the class I rented was the one with the broken window. Finally he washed another and we exchanged. Now I have a car with good wipers but the smell of cigarette smoke was sickening. I was late for my appointment to I bit the bullet and drove off. For a week, I drove around in a car that smelled like a full ash tray. This was my second experience with this franchise and it was just as bad as my first experience.There was the auto show scheduled a few days after my arrival which must have added to the lack of cars but I can not excuse the rudeness I experienced.The only redeeming factor was the bus driver. He was so pleasant, helped everyone with their bags. I gave him a nice tip for his effort.

I decided to come home from Denver for a few days and when searching for car rentals dollar car rental seemed to be reasonably priced. I entered all of my information INCLUDING my age (24) they gave me a set price and asked that I paid for 70 percent of the total rental price to secure a rental car. I paid that portion of the rental and received a receipt. When I arrived to the rental company in Detroit MI they took my information and immediately put a $350 hold on my card for the car which was not mentioned anywhere during the booking process. (an inconvenience but I understood). After putting the hold on my card the desk worker informed me that I owed a 120 more than what my receipt stated because I wasnt 25. I informed her that I entered my age during the booking of the reservation and it took that into account when I had paid for the reservation. I was told to shove it and pay the extra non-listed fee. I told them to just refund the money I had paid for the reservation and that I wanted to go a more honest rental company that wasnt running a scam. they then told me that I couldnt have my money back because I should have magically known their hidden fee structure. STAY AWAY from this bait and switch company!!! They commit FRAUD, EXTORTION and will upcharge everything!!!

Unfortunately, we do not remember the names of the individuals who assisted us but we would like to thank the entire staff at the Detroit Metro airport.

This is the worst-run Dollar Rent A Car spot Ive ever experienced. Ive been to many before and I had a great experience. This one is dreadful. It is extremely slow. They had no system implemented to ensure the customer who was waiting the longest in line got their car before the customer who had just arrived. It took waiting outside for twenty minutes for a group of us waiting to develop our own system to make sure it was fair. Would not recommend this location to anyone.

I had been dreading this experience based on other reviews. However, after arriving at the facility I was warmly greeted by Nicole who was super helpful and pleasant. I explained to Nicole that my wife and I were visiting Michigan and driving all over the state and Nicole provided plenty of good insider information for us to try while traveling around. The return was just as easy and pleasant, as were the shuttle drivers, which leads me to believe some of the negative comments about this location were either due to bad luck or misunderstanding on the part of the renter. I have experienced a bad rental car agency (Fox rental cars in Salt Lake City) and you can see my 1 star review if you want to prove I am not some paid individual trying to support this location. I would certainly go through this Dollar location if I ever return to Michigan in the future and I greatly appreciate everything Nicole did.

Car was given to me with one tire deflated by 9 lb I filled my tank prior to returning it and I was told I didnt top it off and would have to pay the difference. This was at 5:30 in the morning and it appeared that every car that was returned at the same time as mine was driven to the gas pumps at Dollar. Looks mighty suspicious to me. Other than that the car was a great vehicle and the price was right.

Truly a horrible experience. There seems to be literally no communication between anyone that works here. The lady at the front desk told us we don’t have to fill up our gas tank before returning our vehicle, but what she failed to mention to us is that that would be an additional $70 fee! They should post no smoking sign in the car!The lady at the counter never told us it was a no smoking vehicle and when we returned it the next day we were told we would be charged a cleaning fee of $300 and “it’s listed in our paperwork”’. It doesn’t cost $300 to clean a car that wasn’t dirty and at most to have it detailed its only $100-$150! Disappointed with Dollar and seems very sneaky!!!! Would not recommend 😡

The employees gives very good service but the manager there will do his best to make a bad situation worst. We took a car and it did not start after we arrive to the hotel, after an hour that we already missed a reservation to a restaurant the car started and we decide to go back and replace it. the manager told us to refuel the car (3 dollar amount) or he will fine us. After this bad experience with car I would expect to get an apology and a different car but he did his best to make this experience even worse just to “teach us a lesson” (after fueling the car I overheard him saying to one of the employees that he will teach us a lesson). We are not from the state and it smelled from racism from the manager side, we just wanted  to get a functional car so we can get something to eat and go to sleep after a 14 hours flight!

They didnt have the car size that I reserved. They said if I wanted to upgrade to a higher class car, it would be an up charge - or I could take a smaller class car but, no, there would be no reduction in price. How is that fair? Especially since you didnt have what I reserved. The guy in front of me in line was complaining about other issues, too. They dont value their customers here. UPDATE - After reading this review, they offered me a partial credit, so I upgraded my rating. Thank you.

They didn’t have any cars available; 40 min wait to get a car. very poorly ran place. When they finally gave me the car it still had garbage in it from previous customer. When i expressed dissatisfaction with the long wait, the agent tried making it seem to be my fault for not “going out to get her” desk agent clerly stated to wait until my name was called. very unprofessional.

Dollar Express is awesome to drop us off right at the car but sometimes they dont have it marked on the reservation and they have to scramble while were on the way from the airport terminal.

This is my preferred location to rental from in Detroit as they are always there cheapest and the cars are always in great condition.The place can be pretty busy at times, but Im a frequent customer so am a member of their loyalty program. Otherwise you might have a long wait.

This place is completely sketchy.. Each person says something different. The only person who I received good customer service from was Cleo(thank you!). There was a man named Josh when you were leaving with the car, and he advised us to get another car, which obviously there would be surprise upcharges if we did so. There was another boy named Josh at the front desk who was useless, so he had to have Cleo help. Josh was completely disrespectful and went as far as laughing in my face when I was unhappy. The online price was $60 and somehow ended up being around $300 for an economy car. Cleo respectfully explained why. Will never ever be a customer here again. The bus drivers were very sweet and hardworking. Go somewhere else!

They took my money off my card an told me that it decline it. After that they stated they were still going to give me the rental they had to do it manually but didnt. So i left with no car and $300 gone which they claim will be back on my card at 12. For the inconvenience they offer me absolutely nothing.Update my money wasnt on my card at 12am. I called them this morning an now they are giving me the run around about my money. Please be aware this company is the worst an customer service is horrible.Here is a week later update my money still havent been refunded an now they can not even find my account. I am contacting fox 2 now

It was my first time renting with Dollar and my overall experience was very pleasant. My shuttle arrived at the DTW airport within a reasonable amount of time and the driver seemed very nice. Once at the rental office, everyone was very professional and timely. At the front desk, Paul helped me secure my rental and made sure I was aware of my early turn-in location and each step in between. My rental was up to standard, clean and they even let me upgrade as my Military Discount. The guy that helped with the Pre-Rental Vehicle Inspection paperwork was also very nice. He helped get my bags in the car and was very informative. I will definitely be using Dollar for my next car rental.

This place is terrible. They were slow, extremely slow. Then i had a government coupon for an upgrade and the lovely (sarcasm) lady behind the counter said oh we aint doing that today. Then while I was standing there a lady next to me said omg thank you for the upgrade and she didnt have a coupon. Pretty sure there was some preferential treatment going on but I am not allowed to say that right??? Then I was told to go out and pick whatever car I wanted. Only two cars available so I started to walk towards the one I wanted and the guy at the gate said yo that aint yos and I was directed at the most basic car available but when I said I was told to pick what I wanted he said I said that aint yos. Both cars were in the same class, So I took the car I was told to take and when I got to the gate I got even more rude service. Guy didnt even acknowledge me. I am definitely taking the service complaints back to my company and seeing what we can do about terminating our service with this place. Another lady there reserved a car and they didnt even have it but they told her to wait outside and it was going to be brought to her. She kept waiting outside and I overheard the ladies at the counter talking about how they didnt have her car so when I left I let her know her car wasnt coming. Terrible place.

Service was good just rented a mid size suv and it was smaller than a regular car inside. With the car seat in the back for the baby the front seats had to be moved forward and seating almost straight up. My bad for thinking I would have more room in a suv

The customer service was very nice, the employees waited even though our plane was very delayed. They told us over the phone that they will wait. I will rent from this place anytime again. The car was clean, only 3000 miles on it. Very good experience!

I felt embraced with kindness and concern for my comfort at the same timeall instructions for return and usage were made very clear to me. I only give this 1 star because my overly tired self didnt pay enough attention forgot I had already paid online and a car rental for 1 week cost me over $600. And a standard car nothing fancy. Love how Whitney made me believe I had to take the insurance by not giving me any other option than 1, 2, or 3. I got a car from Avis, a Passat, just a few months prior, same location for $200. A. Ill never book a flight that early in the morning and B. Ill never rent from Dollar again!

Very Bad costumer service, rude people at front desk. They had only one person at the front desk which took her sweet little time helping another costumer, finally got help from another companies employer which was nicer Asked to add another driver was told that I had to pay 15$ extra per while other companies charged 0$. Didnt get the car we booked. And on top of all that got letter that we need to pay 22$ for a toll road that we already paid for, the letter said we must have a receipt for us to not get charged. WILL NEVER EVER RENT WITH THEM ANYMORE!

Courteous, helpful, speedy. Excellent service at checkout, for example, when the van pulled around the lot to our car and several Dollar personnel helped us carry our heavy luggage into the van. One young, strong blond woman carried a 70-pound cooler for us. I was impressed, all around.Three cheers for the DTW Dollar people!

Paid for my rental in advance, and paid the deposit. Kept the car 9 days instead of 4 like agreed and was charged $1040. They said I signed for insurance but I did not and deposit was not even applied to balance. Had to open claim with Bank of America to try and get money back since Dollar refused to refund what was not theres to take. If I could not give any stars I would.

This is the worst experience Ive ever had with a car rental. The staff was nice, but why am I sitting here at 6:46 am when reservation was for 5am. Then the is ABSOLUTELY NO SELECTION AT ALL. YOU HAVE TO TAKE WHAT THEY GIVE YOU. STAY AWAY!!!I STAY AWAY!!!!!! I definitely would have went to another company if I knew this was soooooo poorly run. DONT DONT DONT USE THIS PLACE.

CAN NOT RENT WITH DEBIT CARD ....LIARS ...this company goes online and advertising nationally that you can rent a car with debit card NOT TRUE ...they just sent me away...SUPER RUDE PERSONNEL...DOLLAR/HERTZ...I even called before I got there to make sure its true ...I ended up wasting f$90 on uber to get there and back .. STAFF YELLING AT COSTUMER..NOT just to me there was another guy getting yelled at Im reporting this everywhere bbb, Google dollar corporation you name it

Being an Express member is very helpful - getting a car immediately!! This time the first cars registration had expired so we had to go back and were given an upgrade. However that one had some scratches that were noted, and a report had to be filed upon return. Overall, the experience was much better than some other times. Thanks.

I rent from them 20 weekends a year. Always good service. Even better now that some of the workers know me by name and tell me about their kids, wives, etc. Nice to talk to. Great place to rent. Sign up for dollor express, its free and its worth it.

Brandy was sooooo helpful. She explained my options for extending my rental with best possible cost. The pick up was easy and return even easier. This was my first time renting with this company, mainly due to cost and length of need. I was not disappointed.
