Our plane arrived at 12:30am. I had completed my reservation online including entering all of my drivers license info. The message I received from Avis was to just stop by the counter to grab my keys and I will be on my way. I figured that between the time of day and everything I had done in advance, I would be in and out of the rental center very quickly and on my way to the hotel to catch some much needed zzzs. Incredibly, there were over 100 people at the rental center when we arrived around 12:45am. All of them had said they had been in line for hours. It took 4 hours before I finally received me rental car. They asked me if a Tahoe was okay since they didnt have what I reserved. At that point, I would have taken a go-kart. As I was pulling out of the parking lot, the SUV starting jerking dramatically. This issue continued anytime I was turning slowly either going forward or in reverse. Felt like the parking brake had suddenly engaged but I checked and that was not the case. Thankfully, I did not have to drive very far in this vehicle otherwise I would have had to return it and likely wait another 4 hours for a different vehicle.

When checking in I asked if we could get our car early.( Reservation for 2 pm we arrived at noon.) The lady that checked me in did not answer me just asked for my drivers license and printed my contract and told me my car was outside. Did not give ANY direction to the vehicle. When I looked at the contract later I noticed I was charged for 181.00 an hour for the early pick up. THIS WAS NOT EXPLAINED to me when I asked of I could get the vehicle early. If I would have been told that I would not have picked it up early. That is why I only gave a recommendation rating of 6. Other than that everyone else we delt with was kind and hospitable. The vehicle was clean and we loved the ride. Need to work on first impressions to the customer.

Im AVIS preferred but still had to check in b/c a space was not assigned to me. The line was incredibly long b/c it was also combined w/ Budget and many people were confused about the lines. Customers were very frustrated. Finally when a car/space was assigned, i had to go back to preferred lot and found that the car was not cleaned outside. Inside the car, it was dirty with satins in the car seat, console had dirt and previous renters smoked inside the car. Some type of freshener was used to mask the smell of the smoke and it was overpowering. However, I could not wait in the line again. It was the worst experience I have had w/ any car rental!!!!! I would not have complained about the line to the get car but the condition of the car was unbelievable.

A place you can rent a car, easily, just do it on your computer before you get there...easy peasy. Although they charged us for fuel even though the car had just been filled up. Check your email only receipt, they can sneak in charges that arent legit. The lady wouldnt print us out a receipt when we turned our car in. Do the get commission on fuel sales?UPDATE: They refunded the taken fuel funds. Insist on getting a receipt.

I did like the workers here. But the line was absolutely CRAZY. Every time I go to pick up a car here the LINE is ridiculous. I try to remind myself not budget not budget not budget. What happens is the rates are good and so you figure why not. Some people, customers, got kind of loud about it the last time I was here, the s l o w service, somewhat understandably, really.AVIS HOWEVER WASNT BUSY AT ALL THEY SHARE THE ROOM WITH BUDGET.I would not recommend getting a BUDGET car RENTAL only because of the lines. YIKES.

Paid 800 for a vehicle and they still want 250 more for a 3 day trip horrible service not Avis but Budget I wanted to give a big shout out to Anetra Henderson the OPS MANAGER who made my day with the best customer service even though they made me switch this reservation to my sister her service by herself made me change my review. She is the best and I want to thank her for everything you do great job. Sorry for the late response.

Have had GREAT experience with the company overall but things HAVE CHANGED for the worse situation possible ❎Arrived late night to pickup rental. Even with 3 clerks working the service was SO SLOW! Took at least 1.5 hours to get the car. There were a bunch of problems but here are some of the main ones:1. Car was not clean even though they promise extreme sanitizing and clean interiors.2. Checking-in system for cars is old and takes WAY too long to acquire keys.3. The environment has very limited seating which causes congestion putting everyone health at risk.I hope the company takes in consideration these conditions and makes changes. The employees are not the only liable parties as they also have to deal with the environment provided to them. To make changes, updates in the checking-in system for rentals need to be made along with better data pipeline for knowing which cars are readily clean and available without harming the customer experience.The improvements are at a critical stage I would say and change needs to happen ASAP! 🎯

I paid for the car upfront. We were told we only had to pick up the keys and we could be off. We waited in a very packed room with only two agents on site for over two hours. When we finally got to the counter and they didnt have the car available. The girl was walking around doing nothing and finally asked her what was up, she said we had to wait longer until they could figure out what to do. We were there for a funeral of my childrens. father and had to be put through this! They finally got us another vehicle that was dirty and if I requested another vehicle they couldnt tell me how much longer we had to wait so we took this one. Now I got the bill and you charged me an additional $62.47 for a vehicle I didnt ask for. This was the worst experience of my life! You all should be ashamed of yourselves and will never use AVIS again. Feel free to give me a call, but a refund would be much appreciated.

Imperial, MO location was great. Drove to Michigan and had a car issue. Contacted their road assistance, they got us going and advised us to go to the AVIS airport location to get a different vehicle to be safe to drive back. The people at Detroit airport location were AWESOME!! The supervisor working got us a vehicle quickly so we could get on the rode home.

DTW rental from Avis. the shuttle at DTW did not take us to the Avis preferred area, when arrived at the main office it was not clear to us where the preferred area was.(tip make sure you mention you are preferred, they my drop you off at the proper location) the women working behind the counter double checked my booking and did not mention to me that the car assigned to us was not the standard size car but it was a instead a compact. the car itself is not a user friendly car and me and my partner were not comfortable in terms of safety and personal comfort. this was the worst Avis experience i have had in a long time, this is coming off the heels of my last rental from Hawaii which was also not as smooth but at least we got the car we booked there. I am very upset and reconsidering my allegiance to Avis.

Long line to rent a car. One hour wait to pick up our prepaid car. Car reeked of cigarettes and cigars so I had to return it to airport and get another vehicle, causing me to spend another 3-4 hours of time to exchange car. I was first sent to another closer location to where I was staying, telling me on phone they had another car. When I got there, they said there were no other cars and the National Avis number always does this to them. Avis, get your act together! I do 5-10 flights per year. I am not a newbie and this was a very unacceptable experience. A car reeking of cigarretes should have been aired out and cleaned before releasing to the public. THis is not how you get or keep business

Got a great rate for a van for 5 days and 2 car seats unlimited miles! Very nice and gave me a beautiful 2021 van and the price was 738! No hidden fees only deposit that is refunded quick for 200 which is standard. Large selection and shuttle to and from airport for Detroit.

Worst car rental place ever!! Hours of waiting. Staff just talking and gathering in a circle talking while we waiting. Using walkie talkies for car verification instead of computers, very out dated. I prepaid through Expedia with my Net spend card like I always have done with Enterprise and Alamo but this company wouldnt take even though I had a returning flight!! Dont use them. They dont deserve one star but it wouldnt let me give them no star!!!

Worst rental experience I have ever had. Arrived at the preferred office only to find no one there to assist. Once the agent did arrive there was a long line and a very slow process. The vehicle provided had only 1/2 tank of gas (see photo) . Upon returning the vehicle there was no agent available to check in cars causing many customers to miss their flights. To add insult to injury, upon receiving my final bill I was charged an additional $240 than my rental agreement. After contacting customer service I was told I was charged the additional amount because I had modified my reservation which I had not. Save yourself the headache and rent elsewhere if possible. Would rate zero stars if possible.

It took almost an hour to find a car that was clean and acceptable, which delayed our departure by 45 mins. We returned the car 10 minutes after the 30-minute grace period and were charged a half day more. That is not the way to win new customers! The experience was ok. The preferred counter was closed when it should haven been open. The main reason for my score is the cleanliness of the cars. I have rented from others during this pandemic and Avis consistently delivers the dirtiest cars. I literally bring my sanitation bag with me when I rent from Avis.

Our party had issues with this experience. Was given a vehicle that smelled so much like vomit we felt ill, did not even make it down the aisle before we turned around. Staff was nice and helpful, immediately taking it back and giving us a different car that did not smell. Unfortunately this seems to have caused some issue or something because we ended up being double charged. Calling the office we were hoping to get some one motivated to help but felt let down. I’m sure it was a mistake but it was temporary very expensive, stressful, and not how we wanted to start our vacation. The second car was brand new, comfortable, and we were happy in. Plus one star for that car.

Although this says Avis Car Rental it is a review of Budget because they operate out of the same building. Avis only had two people in their line and one dedicated employee. Budget had a line wind around in store and out the door down the sidewalk from when I arrived to when I left. There was only one employee there the first 45 minutes, then two the next 20 and then it went back down to one again for the next 20. One hour and 15 minutes was too long to wait for my prepaid rental car! That was after I had waited 30 minutes for the shuttle. Employee said that line had been that way since 6am. She was nice and did her job efficiently. They just needed the more of her! Steer clear of this Budget! Choose another rental car agency in Detroit! I was an hour and a half late for my sisters reception. It took 2 hours from the time I landed until I got the keys to my car.

Avis was the 3rd company Id contacted for a rental out of Detroit Metro Airport. First one had no cars, 2nd wouldnt take a phone call and I couldnt login to a pc. Avis answered and was helpful and actually had a car! Yay! Customer service was ok, they were busy, but never explained my gas options for when I turned in, and I wasnt really expecting a Toyota Tacoma and it wasnt a problem, but I wouldve preferred a sedan. Still not sure what my gas options were, I filled up 25 minutes before arriving, so it was still on full. Wouldve been nice to know my options. They had a line almost out the door when I picked up. Not sure why, but it was busy!

Avis shuttle bus came right away. There was a little bit of a wait at the counter but shorter than I expected. At the counter everything went smooth and fast, the woman was very nice and polite, and she even went out of her way to go out to the lot herself to check for me if there was a certain car I wanted to upgrade to. Car was clean and ran perfect no issues. Returning was so simple and the deposit got refunded to my card very fast. I definitely recommend, and Ill be using Avis for all my rental needs.

Scammed me out of $350. Said their handheld device wasnt working when I turned in my rental vehicle on time. Waited two weeks for an emailed receipt. When the rental finally showed up in my account, it said the vehicle had been returned FOUR DAYS LATER. Customer service opened a ticket but has not been terribly helpful, next I will be disputing the charge with my credit card company.

Oh how I need to rant on this review. We have a reservation. We landed 2.5 hours ago where we have stood in line to get our vehicle. Now we are sitting in this blistering heat waiting for someone to find, wash, fuel, and bring the car around. This is THE worst experience of our trip. Extremely poor service when picking up the car. Although the reservation was made three weeks earlier, my name was not on the preferred board. Because it was Midnight, the preferred desk was closed. I had to wait in the standard line, where the clerk engaged in a long conversation with another customer about fishing tackle that didnt end until I pointed out that it was getting close to 1:00 a.m. and people were waiting. Then it got interesting. I had reserved a full size sedan. I was offered a Toyota 4Runner (declined because of poor ride on the highway driving I would be doing), a Honda Civic (not close to a full size car), and a Toyota Tacoma pickup (another ride issue) before finally being offered a Chrysler 300. But when we got to the assigned space - we found a Tacoma pickup. Back to the desk where after another 10 minutes he offered a Camaro. Not what I wanted, but I wanted to get out of there. Total time in the parking lot - 1 hour 20 minutes. Not what you want when you arrive late, from a company I have rented from for decades. Unfortunately, bad service at Avid DTW is a long tradition. I have never had problems anywhere else in the country but in Detroit they are frequent.

She found that the need to accommodate my team and executives who visit required a vehicle more aligned with our needs. I appreciated how Marilyn actively listened and improved my current experience with my rental. Budget and Avis share the location. I rented from Budget. The car smelled like Marijuana. I called a supervisor and was able to take the vehicle back for another. But the fact the vehicle was not properly cleaned and sanitized, especially during this pandemic was very upsetting. Budget needs to do better.

When I picked up the car in Detroit, it was raining. The attendant was very rude and said go get your car. It was U8 which was in little letters. I found after wondering around in the rain. Ive never used a keyless car before. Nobody would help, so I saw a mechanic in the garage and asked him how to start the car. No attendants to check in returns and I needed to catch my flight so I left the keys and my gas station receipt in the car and boarded their bus to the terminal. Thought everything would get sorted out but woke up the next day to find Id been charged for an extra day and a late return fee. Ive opened a case with their national customer service and disputed the CC charge, more to come as it happens but Id not use them again.

Ive rented from Avis in Detroit many times. I highly recommend the preferred membership, as if you dont have one, you often spend up to 3 hours waiting in line to get a vehicle. With the preferred membership, you can have a car ready for you the minute you get off the shuttle. Given recent shifts in traveling demand, even the preferred membership doesnt guarantee youll have your car ready when you arrive. I waited 2.5 hours for my car as there werent enough cars that were prepped on the lot, and everyone in line had to wait while cars were fueled and cleaned (whether you had preferred membership or not).

I noticed my AVIS reward points are all gone, I guess due to inactivity in the past year. I cant believe AVIS is not extending the valid period of reward points during the Covid-19, while all the other travel companies like Marriott and Hilton all extended the expiration dates of their reward points. I have been an Avis Preferred customer for well over 10 years. Usually the program is the bright spot of traveling since it’s “grab and go” and very efficient. I have never had a worse experience than when I rented in Detroit. My name was not listed on the board at Avis Preferred, the app listed my car as “no cars available”, there was no agent at the Avis Preferred desk, and the line at the main desk was THREE HOURS LONG. Just a completely horrible experience apart from two wonderful women working at the exit desk.

Car was clean and in good condition. Price was about 60 to75% higher than pre-covid. Line to pick up car was long. One clerk tried to take care of 15 people. My plain was late 2 hours and I have to stay in line to get all my paperwork to be redone. Crazy: price up, service down.

My child left their backpack on the shuttle and it was recovered the next day by Avis spoke to Darrel I believe that was his name and walked me through the steps on getting my backpack back. Yes I paid shipping fees but so worth retrieving my items back. The woman driving the shuttle was also very sweet. Thank you!

The truck I was given was not clean, there was old food remnants under the seats. Mechanically the vehicle needed the wheels aligned and balanced because anytime you went over 50mph the steering wheel shook violently. I reported all of this upon returning the vehicle along with my displeasure and was told oh sorry. Absolutely the worst rental experience Ive ever had and you get an F in customer service.

July 21,2021 I arrived at Avis car Rental at Detroit airport at 10:00pm I waited in line for 3Hr the computer was down and nobody said anything reminded you there are Three car rentals in this place everybody was working on budget rentals but not Avis people was upset and was leaving the Manager made Announcement about the computer was down but not once she said get in budget line or we will Alternate Back-and-forth to get the customers out instead letting them wait ln line no signs was posted telling the customer. I got my vehicle at 1:00am just to find out somebody else had got it back in side I go to wait another 30 minutes to get another vehicle no discount just sorry for your wait and have nice day and ☹☹☹

MY FAULT - BUT: I left my cellphone in the cup holder of the Tahoe I returned - realized it 5 minutes later - returned to get it and it was gone - clearly someone took it out of the cupholder. Stayed with drivers, asking if any knew where it was. Surely one of them took it - Dishonesty, yes. But it was MY Fault, so I am at least 75% to blame. Was hoping for honest employees.

The wait to get the car was insane. It seemed like every agent was having trouble with their computers! There were only 6 renters ahead of me in line and I waited for at least 45 minutes. As a side note, once I got there, the car was ready. But, the passenger side floor of the car was SOAKING wet! Unfortunately, we were driving the car to Midland, 2 hours away, and didnt notice it until we were there so we just lived with it. So weird.

They had no cars available for walk in because our reservation was accidently cancelled by the airline. The manager REFUSED to come up to the office after two different customers including us asked employees to speak with a manager. They were giving customers cars that were so inoperable that they were returned. One guy came back and returned 3 different cars in the time we were there. Not impressed

Worst experience ever! Rented a car, they took their money. I used a debit as their website says is ok if you have a round trip ticket. Hey, had a round trip ticket. Then am told no car with out a credit card. Re reserve car in husbands name, they cancel the reservation after AGAIN taking the money...then proceed to tell me to rent a car its now $250 more! I wasnt the only person who had this same problem!

WOW! Where do you start? When we got to the Avis counter and greeted the attendant she was nice and pleasant. BUT, she had no idea how to upgrade our vehicle, when she tried it took her and HOUR to finalize the transaction, then when we finally got to our vehicle it had NOT been cleaned and smelled as if the person who brought it to us was smoking pot in it. We wanted to have it exchanged, but it took SO long we decided to tough it out. BAD IDEA, we were all sick from the smell and all of our clothes smelled as if we were smoking marijuana. NEVER AGAIN, I will go elsewhere, pay more and do all I can to tell everyone I know to avoid Avis at all costs.

I always use Avis, and this last rental would have been great had it not been for the extra $200 held on my credit card without my advance knowledge. When I dropped off the car, I asked the agent about the hold and she told me that something new, however it was not mentioned at the beginning of the rental. I used my credit card, not a debit card. Reserved a rental for just under a week from Avis at DTW, and had a seamless and efficient pick up and drop off experience. From the friendly airport shuttle drivers to the helpful service agents we interacted with, theres no complaints. Pick up process was quick, upon landing we found out that our original option wasnt available, and the replacement wasnt ideal, but being Avis Preferred Plus members, we were able to pick a much nicer option at the original price we paid, no extra charges. Best part is that it was all through the Avis app, didnt have to wait in line. We literally just went to the car and drove off. Also, car was clean with a full tank of gas, and was in near perfect condition. Cant recommend Avis enough, and the DTW location is no exception.

The line was extremely long. Little Organization in the facility where everyone was housed while they waited. Staff were overwhelmed. It was a scene of chaos. Upon pickup I could not choose the car from my phone as a preferred member and just pick up and leave. I had to go into the front desk and although I was given SUV options on my phone they gave me lower grade options only than my reservation. I was so frustrated I just took the keys but upon entering the car it smelled like a smoke stack. Went in to change the car asked again for SUV and they said they had one and gave me the keys. IT WAS NOT AN SUV. It also had faint smell of smoke and when the car reached 55MPH it started shaking. It was a terrible car. Upon return to fill up the tank, the gas tank would NOT open. I brought it to the line and then again she said I had to go to the counter. The guy was nice enough to give me free gas but then suggested we just wait in front of the building and the shuttle would come. He told this to many other people as we waited for 45 minutes before finally going to another location to get picked up as they were picking up from that location but not coming to us. We literally almost missed our flight - last calling to board, last ones on the plane and had to run 1 mile all the way across the airport for our flight. This was the worst car rental experience of my life. I have tried to stay true to Avis but after this experience it is time to move on.

Great Customer Service, nice riding vehicle. The only issue we experienced is that a previous driver smoked in the vehicle and the smell lingered when we picked it up.

The Avis representative who set up my rental was very helpful, professional and efficient. Front counter check out was efficient and the return of the rental car was even more so efficient. I really appreciated the ground transportation provided from the airport and returning me to the airport. I think Avis is the best.

The lady at the service desk was awesome. We were supposed to get a tacoma. Got a tahoe with a tailgate that wouldnt close. Go figure its a chevy. Finally ended up with a Forerunner...Yay!

I was with Budget Rental whos being merged with Avis. Unfortunately its hard to figure out where to go for renting car. Staff was helpful though and even upgraded me. Awesome!

Avis prices are ridiculous. Customer service is a joke. To outsource to countries who cannot effectively speak the language (English) because you can pay them lower wages is ridiculous. They mess up rental agreements, reservations etc. Then you all have the nerve to hold monies for rentals that have been cancelled. I used to love Avis but now I wouldnt recommend you guys to a dog catcher.

The car I rented had the tire pressure low and maintenance service needed light on during the whole rental period. I tried calling customer service several times and could never get through. When tiring the car in, I was given a credit of $75 plus taxes and fees that should went back to my credit card. I was printed out a receipt, but upon Priceline contact AVIS they said nothing was due back to me. I was scared the whole rental thinking I was going to get a flat tire or that something was going to happen to the car. Very bad experience and now not to be compensated makes it even worst.

My reservation was scheduled for 10a.m I was in avis at 9:45 am I waited patiently until 11:15am and because it was only one person working!!! After the agreement was signed he told me to wait until the pull up with the car whichnw as s confusing because there were people that were able to walk to there car. After me standing outside for 25 minutes and I I went in for a eta on the vehicle because 3 people after I checked out had received their rental. The gentlemen called a lady on the walkie talkie she rudely said to hold on Im looking for it. 15 additional minutes had passed then I was told the car had a windshield crack he has to change it out I asked could they extend my return since Im almost 2 hours after my reservation I was told I had to call customer service which I did and was hung up on after requesting a supervisor because the rep kept trying to change my pickup instead of extending my return. I extended the return myself and paid an entire day even though I didnt get my vehicle until 12 and I missed my daughters bridal brunch because of this. I am disappointed with this company and the unprofessionalism I have received.

Exceptionally slow service. We had rented a car on another occasion and had the same experience, but was hoping it was just a bad day. Unfortunately it happened again. It seems that theres very little correlation to what they make reservations to have, and whats actually on hand. Our economy car turned into a minivan and we didnt care because we just wanted to escape.

My personal experience was relatively good. I booked online from the Avis website in advance, payed in advance, and gave them my flight number. My car was ready for pickup when I got to their office.My only complaint is that the office is understaffed and the queue was pretty long, so employees didnt have time to clearly answer questions about policy and insurance.

Unfortunately the car choosen was dirty, shakes over 55mph and rattles with 33k miles on it. Definitely not Aviss finest hour
