I approached Duerksen & Associates when I received possession intimation from my builder Duerksen helped me with the registration process all follow-ups negotiated the late penalties as the actual builder unfortunately delayed it by more than three years Their team proved themselves to be a conscientious and diligent team striving to achieve the best outcomes
One of most horrible experiences with this company. We took our Mother out of assisted living in 2020 due to Covid and bought a manufactured home managed by Duerksen in Lebanon. There was no requirements to get into the mobile home park other than the application which was approved right away. We spent thousands fixing up the inside to make it as comfortable as possible. With great sadness, Mom passed away in 2020. When we tried to sell it, Duerksen stated that we need that their permission and that everything needed to be fixed on the 1970s mobile home before they would approve the sale. They wanted a new porch, new skirting, they wanted it painted and the entire outside landscaped plus more. I asked them why that wasnt required less than a year ago when we bought it. They said it was managed by a different company then. Not true! Long story short we took a $20,000 loss in order to get out of this horrible, greedy mismanaged company.
I am totally satisfied with the services of Duerksen & Associates We have our property which we have given on rent all the things are being managed by their team very effectively The best part of linking with them is that they are very active listening to the tenant complaints and the maintenance of the property
Very pleasant to talk with. I will continue to stay in touch with them, until I find my new home
Calls, emails unanswered, mountains of paperwork. You have to pay $50.00 per application. It feels like youre getting hijacked by Greed. That makes me wonder how responsive they are if a tenant needs them for repairs, etc. I get the process. Not returning calls and never talking to the same person is unprofessional. Ridiculous response from owner. Pretty sweet way to steal thousands. More are figuring out your scam. I hope to be the wrecking ball. No one likes you guys.
I love their high standard of customer service. Their ability to maintain my home and keep everything working. Their ability to keep the yard safe and clean. Very cautious and respectful. They work with your availability to set up your work request. I have been here for more than a decade and I love it here. Very grateful for this management ! Lauretta Oriakhi.
If I could give them 0 stars I would. You have to pay $50.00 per application and Its not refundable. After they take our money they change the moving in date to next week without informing us! And they didnt even feel sorry! It feels like youre getting hijacked! As other reviewers said, they are slumlords. Im so sorry for Corvallis, such a beautiful city with that crooks company! Avoid them if you can!
Truly terrible management company. They do not communicate important information to tenants (for example when the stairs up to your apartment are being replaced and are therefore torn out in the middle of the day). And they will either not reply to your emails/calls or someone like Steve will reply with a good ol youre being an overly emotional woman card. They also charge a TON more on the security deposit than necessary. Even though I cleaned thoroughly, they deducted an extra $350 for re-cleaning the same things (which I highly doubt they actually did). They own half the town so they are hard to avoid, but they absolutely cannot properly handle all of their properties. 0/10 if possible.Edit after reply from company: a different marketing company is doing replies to these, heads up. Their replies are really bad. If you want feedback, contact the Duerksen directly and they will actually listen to you.
My daughters credit is not good so they said she would need a co-signer. My daughter is also on unemployment. I co-signed for her. We all paid our $50 bucks. She looked at a few places to rent then applied for them. Each time they said someone applied before her. They do know that they have to rent to applicants no matter what their income source. Finally, after one month and all of her time and heartache, they said to her that I did not qualify as a co-signer as I also get unemployment. Now, get this my credit rating is 730, I own a home, plus I get, pension, retirement and VA disability benefits and I do not qualify as a co-signer? What this picture says is that they did not want to rent to her because she is on unemployment! The funny thing is she has enough money in her savings to pay rent for a year! This is not a company you want to manage your property or to rent from! One star is more than they should get!
I know its difficult since they are the largest management company in Corvallis, but please avoid dealing with them if possible for your own sanity. Their operations are crooked. I think they have a well-developed master list of tricks to make sure your experience is the worst:1. They told us the property is available, and told us to do online application and pay the $50/person application fee first. Only after we submitted our application and thought we finally get an apartment after weeks of researching, we were notified that these were just steps 2&3 of the application process, and a step 1 virtual tour/in-person visit must be completed to make the application COMPLETE. The COMPLETE APPLICATIONS are processed on a first come - first serve basis. So now you know the order of application steps, dont pay your $50 for nothing.2. They require us to have a co-signer, or double the deposit. This is ridiculous, we have stable income, sufficient deposit, excellent credit score and just got pre-approved for a home loan. Looking at other peoples review, I expect that we would still end up owing them even with the double deposit. They also told us its ok to pay the deposit without looking at the actual lease.3. The property available date listing on the website is only an estimate, but they would not tell you, you have to find it out. In our case, the move-in date we put in application is same as the available ale date on website, but they did not feel like to tell us its only an estimate, until we found it out ourselves with great surprise when reviewing the lease (glad we did not pay deposit before signing), the lease start date is a week later. For us, its a nightmare since right after we were told the apt is available and submitted the application we thought we got the apartment and started booking luggage/car shipping based on the available date.We decided not to proceed. If you have to lease from them, I wish you all the luck in the world.
These guys are basically slumlords. They described the quad in the photos as charming and close to night life. The toilet was in one room and the shower in another. The shower space was so small, I could barely stand up and Im 58. Tons of pipes were coming out of the wall and ceiling. They wanted a cosigner, $500 a month, and only female tenants.
Unprofessional and office staff are rude. They are just trying to take your money. Worst management company Ive ever dealt with! They also raised the rent twice in one year DURING A PANDEMIC! If that doesnt say how awful they are I dont know what does. They really must not care or have souls to do this to hard working renters. They own so much of Corvallis already and yet they think this okay. Just sadden by their lack of respect for the community.
As I landlord, I highly recommend Duerkson & Associates. They have always been dependable and honest.
I spent a week being run around just to be rejected! I will never try to rent through you guys again.
WORST PLACE TO RENT IN CORVALLIS!!! These properties are seriously garbage and horrible quality. They are rude and condescending. The front desk manager, Kate, is literally the nastiest of them all. She was rude on the phone, and not to mention when I came to look at a few places, each time I saw her she smelled like major BO, even with my mask on. If you work in customer service you need to have better hygiene, especially with an attitude like hers. Will NOT EVER rent from them. I dodged a bullet.
Had a basic phone conversation. Kind, polite, reasonable.
They are total crooks. They are trying to charge me over 600 dollars to paint the entire apartment even though theres nothing wrong with the paint. They took my entire security deposit and are demanding 500 on top of that and Ive been loyal to them for over 4 years. Be warned, they will try to squeeze every penny out of you on move out.
I have had really great experiences renting with Duerksen. They have always taken care or any issues we’ve had fast. I would highly recommend them to anyone.
Duerksen and Associates have very poor communication standards. My housemates applied for a house and had to wait a week and a half (we were told 3-5 business days and we applied on a Monday) to be told that our applications had been rejected. We called them repeatedly to check in and they wouldnt give us any answers. I never did get an official confirmation. That was time that we could have been searching for other places. All together, the application fees for all of us and our cosigners reached $400. I wouldnt recommend this company. If you can, find another place.
The worst people. They have absolutely NO morals. They are only out for themselves and the owners of the properties they manage. Stay clear.
The local slum lords. If at all possible, avoid like the plague. Chances are though, that if youre renting from them, its not by choice, but necessity.
If I could give them 0 stars I would. Read the reviews and listen to them. They will take your money and not care one bit. Kate Woods is the most unprofessional, horrible office staff member I have ever spoken to. This company should not be allowed to exist.
If I could give zero stars I would. Not responsible, unkind, and getting ahold of someone living on Mars is easier than getting ahold of someone during stated operating hours.
I trusted Les Schwab since 1978 and had an account there since 1993. If you want to have work done and then be able to go anywhere in the northwest and have it be like your home then this is a place to go. Theyre not the cheapest but the service is the best
Very welcoming and I feel confident that I will be renting here ❤💓❤thank you for making me feel like its gonna be ok 🐾
Great people with a lot of properties to chose from in a town where finding the right place can be difficult
Absolute slumlords. Dont expect any deposit back, property maintenance, or anything basic. They go below bare minimum and squeeze every cent out of you they can.
HORRIBLE RENTAL COMPANY They own majority of Corvallis and they are just here to take your money. They dont care about you. They are the worst human beings and I hope karma gets them.
Leaders in the industry!! Communicate very well and quick to respond to tenants needs,
The worst places in Crovallis. Theyre hard to avoid as they own most of the rentals in town, but try your hardest to avoid them.
I imagine that managing affordable rentals is a hard job, and maybe thats why such rentals seem to be increasingly scarce. Fortunately, Corvallis has Duerksen & Associates doing just that in our small city. Their staff members have been kind and accommodating. They have renewed features of my complex, improving its visual appeal and making it feel more inviting. The only small criticism I might offer, which may help readers feel less skeptical of my five star review, would have to do with timeliness and clarity of communications, but this has been rare and minor. I do recommend renting from this fine company.
Drove 8 hours to move into an apartment. When I showed up the apartment was full of ants, fleas, the exterminator left poison and tools all over the counters. There were ant traps everywhere. The sink looked like someone just puked in it. The oven didn’t have a handle anymore and was falling apart. The carpet did have a little sign that said someone cleaned it so there’s that. All they offered to do to help was to send someone from their office in the morning to clean the sink and counters. Nothing for the ants or anything else. I would go lower than a one star but they did end up giving me a full refund of my deposit.
Yearly rent increases for no reason other than minimum wage goes up.Matthew19:24
I really wish that I could leave a 0 star review. ATTENTION STUDENTS: Do not rent from here. It is as simple as that. Also, make sure to take note of any flaws in the house prior to renting. I almost got charged for a broken door frame, until I looked at the listing of the house, to find photos of the door being broken prior to moving in. Do not let Duerksen shame, or trick you. The front desk staff was belittling, and treated me with little respect, even as a paying client. Seriously, do not rent here.
I rented a house from Duerksen for a year. The experience was pretty good. The place was clean, the tenant portal is easy to use, answer emails relatively quickly and respond to maintenance requests well. You wont get your deposit back medially after you move out as they use it to pay the cleaners and gardeners for the next tenant. Overall, a pleasant experience and would rent from them again if the opportunity arises.
I am an international student, living in Corvallis for 4 years already, I will never choose to rent duerksen’s property again. They provide the worst service I have ever seen in my rent history. After I move out, they even charge me the cleaning fee twice, and took my entire deposits,I tried to keep my apartment clean all the time when I was staying there. Here is the bill picture. I wish no more foreign students be deceived in the future.
I have been renting a property from Duerksen & Assoc. for 2.5 years now. They do an excellent job of maintaining the property. One remarkable aspect of this company compared with other management companies, is how quickly they respond to any maintenance requests from renters. They also make it easy to make requests by multiple ways to reach out to them.I also found the staff to be not only responsive, but very friendly. Nice people!
We highly recommend Duerksen and Associates if you have a need for a property manager. They have managed our properties for about 25 years. They are responsive and immediately mitigate any issues that arise with tenants which have been very minimal over the years due I believe in part by their meticulous vetting. Their financial accounting is straight forward, timely and accurate. They aggressively fill vacancies and do thorough inspections and recommend needed maintenance and upgrades every time there is a turnover in renters which in this college town is often. This is important to us so that our units remain in good condition. They inform us of any major maintenance or repair needs and involve us in the decision.
The apartment price is affordable but the management refuse to take responsibility in terms of rental agreements. They break in to the property without tenants approval taking photos with no consent. The company own most of Corvallis housing agreements so its not easy to avoid them but keep in mind your privacy would be violated and your dignity would be damaged.
Id give them more stars for their responsiveness and the front desk lady was very helpful but the fact is just because I was late a couple times on rent in the past for where I stay now (not through duerksen) that 1 blemish denies me from any place they offer,a they dont care to help you figure it out other then for them to say tough luck. And being as they are the biggest realtor in Corvallis it seems, guess Im just boned, thanks so much.
When Steve Duerkson says he works with his tenants hes absolutely 100% right. I am beyond grateful for them.
Apartments are in very bad condition. Deurksen waits until the last possible moment to do any repairs. Cheap rent for cheap landlords who repair everything as cheap as possible. DO NOT RENT.
Duerksen and Associates has managed our fourplex in Corvallis since 2006. I have always found the team to be responsive and responsible with regard to the active management of our units. If there is a vacancy (which is rare), they immediately notify me but almost always have the vacancy filled in under 30 days. Their subcontractors/repair firms are reputable and reasonable in price with regard to any work required. One of the tenants has been there since I purchased the property, which may be a testimonial that the management is proactive and that the monthly rental amount is reasonable. All in all, I highly Duerksen and Associates as a rental management company.
Your company has done an exemplary job, not only in finding new tenants in a timely matter, but also in following through on landscaping the backyard and doing minor repairs.I also appreciate how youve kept us informed and answered our questions promptly. Weve never experienced such great customer service from a property management company. Its a pleasure working with you!
The staff at Duerksen have been extremely helpful, responsive, and kind. We have had nothing but positive experiences with this company and highly recommend them!
I found the staff friendly and helpful. They were understanding when it came to the 1 late payment I had, and they were very helpful when moving between homes. Their maintenance was exceptional and timely, save for one instance, but that was the fault of their after-hours maintenance, not Duerksen themselves. All 3 homes myself and my roommates were in good conditional. BIGGEST thing, though, was that they did NOT try and rip us off after move-out. We spent three days cleaning, and got every penny back. As far as rental companies go, there are no complaints to levy against Duerksen. Treat your places well, have all the correct information, be mature, and Duerksen will serve you well.
I have never rented from them Im done work for one of their tenants and thats going through the process of having to get approval to work on a rental property was pretty smooth and easy going they were open the communication and willing to let the customer take care of their home repairs to save some some money which was quite an amazing gesture so never really had any issues with them like I said Ive never rented from them.
As a parent of a college student I was very impressed with the Duerksen staff and there properties. I know first hand how much work it can be to screen tenants, turn over apartment and deal with owners. So I applaud the staff and all their hard work. I was also very impressed with their contributions through out the community. I will continue to use Duerksen for any rental needs for my children .
I have to admit, when I read reviews about Duerksen after moving into one of their apartments, I was pretty worried. They have some bad reviews on here..However, through the entire rental process - from move-in, to repairs, to move-out, to the deposit return - they did a good job. They were responsive, fair, and provided good service and maintenance. There are companies in Corvallis who are a real pain to rent with, these guys arent bad.
When fire damaged our rental house in Albany, I put in a desperate call to Duerksen as an out-of-state owner. Steve immediately assumed management of the property, securing it and overseeing the arduous process of reconstruction over the next 10 months. Then he sold it for top dollar. #1 in my book! Grateful and satisfied.
Very responsible property management! We are neighbors of a Duerksen property and have twice interacted with the company concerning landscaping problems (volunteer cherry trees and creeping ivy!). Both times our concerns were met with respect, and the problems were dealt with promptly. Thank you Duerksen for being such great neighbors!
They are a terrible landlords. They are two faced and do not care what the hell you do to their establishment because they are looking for a quick buck. It is ridiculous that I have seen section 8 housing in deep Chicago that is in better quality than some of the homes they are renting out. They have breached our contract on several occasions and are about to be sued if they do not fix their act. I am sick and tired of how unprofessional and uninterested they are in resolving tenant conflicts even the easiest of problems such as TENANT ONLY PARKING!
I will never forget how accommodating and friendly this company has been to me. I remember, when I was in college, we rented a college house managed by Duerkson. and they were always helpful, and positive to deal with. Once, our fridge broke down, and they sent us a new one right away. I had a great relationship with them, and would rent from them again.
Duerksen & Associates just started managing my house in Corvallis. I had a short amount of time from when my tenants departed and Duerksen had it rented. They were awesome getting trades in to get the place ready. They provided advice for the items I took care of. Very good to work with.
I am so thankful I have the wonderful family at Duerksen & Associates as my property managers and my friends. They are always there for me. My husband passed away in 2000 and it is wonderful to have people I can trust handling the management of my lovely home. They are the best!
Duerksen & Associates have managed my familys rental for four years. They have kept it rented the entire time and have been easy to work with. Their communications with me have been sparse but my one request for a repair on my property was handled quickly.
I am new to Duerksen as of September and have found them very personable, thorough, professional, and efficient. (Incidentally this is NOT a FAKE reivew as some claim all positive reviews are.)The front office has always been willing to answer questions and has done so in a friendly personable manner. I like that an employer gives its employees 12-1 off for lunch. It is very human and a good way to treat employees.I think their paperwork relaying how to care for a property is well done and an excellent idea with a population that often has not rented before. I observed one Duerksen employee sitting down with a college student and their parents reviewing the paperwork on caring for a property. I was impressed and thought it a well done effort on the part of Duerksens.I think there would be some great challenges in running a business that has great waves of people arriving and leaving, but it seemed to me the office was handling that challenge well. The property I am in is apparently new to Duerksen and was in very good condition in the interior but had many exterior problems and rats. I listed the issues on the check-in and have been delightfully surprised at how quickly lights were fixed, the access for rats blocked, and leaks addressed. I have been given adequate notice that workers would come and I have felt very comfortable with them.I would recommend Duerksen as a well-run business that treats its tenants personally and professionally.
We rented from this company for 3 years and they were wonderful. Paying rent was easy and anytime I needed maintenance they came same day or next. Clean, high quality home we rented in Corvallis. I would recommend Duerksen and Associates to anyone for their rental needs.
Always very polite and professional. We had several problems develop and they were always quick to fix the issues. I found them to be very generous with the deposit return even though I had two dogs who did minor damage. I recommend if you have pets. I have rented from many different owners and companies and I would rate Duerksens the highest among them.
The staff is very friendly and informative. Ive called multiple times to inquire about properties and now they even know me by name, great customer service.
So I thought everything with them was fine (until we moved out and they took 90% of our deposit) except for that day I was in the middle of taking a shower and a maintenance guy from Duerksen walks in the house. I got out of the shower to see who was in my house and he said he was there to fix my oven drawer but hed come back in 10 minutes so I could get dressed. I was livid. I didnt send for maintenance, the drawer worked perfectly, and I had no 24 hour notice. He came back and after I said I didnt request maintenance he showed me the papers that had my name and address on them. I sent him away, then called the company telling them what happened and that this guy just walked into my house with no notice. All they said was it was supposed to be your neighbor and they HUNG UP!! No Im so sorry. Duerksen, maybe you should double check where you send your people so they dont walk into the wrong house while they are taking a shower.Just a heads up, they will take your deposit. Take before move-in and after move out photos!!!! If they take your deposit too, email some of the photos your took as proof of the condition your left the place. That way they cant argue about the state of the place. Plus they dont take any proof photos so youll have the evidence and they wont 😁I really wish they would respond to my post even with their standard apology, because I think I deserve it, especially since I didnt sue them
My husband and I have been with Duerksen for almost two years now, and our experience has been largely positive. The management doesnt have the best bedside manner, but when you consider the amount of people they deal with on a daily basis, (many of whom are probably garbage humans, sorry but true), I dont blame them for being blunt and straightforward. All of our interactions with the management have been reasonable and polite, because we ourselves have been reasonable and polite towards them. But more about our actual living experience, as long as you follow the no smoking, no partying rules, they basically leave you alone. A previous company I rented with in Corvallis was really intrusive about requirements and upkeep about our apartment, and it frankly got on my nerves. Additionally, every time my husband and I have needed maintenance, their people are extremely prompt - every request we put in was dealt with the following day.Overall, Im quite glad I chose Duerksen. If you want management thats going to have the same level of fake cheer as waitress or retail cashier, maybe rent at a different company. But if youre someone who is reasonable and has no problem following rental agreements, I would highly recommend Duerksen, particularly because they have some of the most reasonably priced accommodations in town.
I got my deposit back minus $90 for cleaning. Do a good job cleaning and a finial walk through to get your deposit. Maintenance is slow during the start of the school year. Took four weeks to get a new smoke detector in my unit. The office generally closes early, especially Fridays and they are not open on weekends. They were friendly and willing to work with me for getting an apartment. But, the unit I got was different than the initial unit I looked at because someone else made a payment first. The walk in customer service is usually mediocre to average. If you are a college student looking for a place for one or two years Duerksen is OK. The rent is month-to-month so move if you dont like it. Do keep in mind that Duerksen is a property management company and does not own the units they rent. The unit I rent was in bad shape when they acquired it for renting and they were in the process of renovating the units. It was good enough for a year.
I have never had any issues renting from Duerksen. I have rented through them for the past 3 years. All maintenance requests were dealt with within a few days. The staff at Duerksen have been very nice to work with.
Duerksen Property Management is a very professional company that I have nothing but positive things to say about. They are friendly and very quick to help with any problems or concerns I’ve had over the years. I wouldn’t hesitate to refer them to friends or family if they were in need of a rental. I am surprised to read some of the reviews. I suppose that you can’t please all of the people all of the time, but I’m sure they tried their best. In closing, I would highly recommend Duerksen Property Management as they have given me superior service and I believe there are hundreds of happy clients that feel the same as I do.
I think the company really needs to improve its procedure. The office lady informed me there was a vacancy and offered for an apartment tour before submitting the application. After I was done with the apartment tour and drove to the office, I was told they had already taken 2 applications and took no more. I appreciate the apartment tour, but whats the point? Why did I drive all the way from Portland to Corvallis just for less than 10 minutes of apartment tour and not even get a chance to submit my application? It was a terrible experience......
I would never rent from this company. They are dishonest, they never do what they say and there is never any follow through. The building is outdated and the appliances are horrible. Staff has been very rude. You will NEVER get your entire security deposit or pet deposit back.
Myself and 4 others leased from Duerksen for 3 straight years. We were far from pleased with our experience.I will say that Duerksen is timely in responding to maintenance requests. However the cons of leasing from Duerksen far outweigh this pro.The home was filthy upon moving in. Various areas smelled foul and you could not walk through the house without the bottoms of your socks becoming black.Duerksen treats their tenants in a very condescending manner. In 3 years we never had a late payment, kept the house clean as a whistle, and made strong efforts to be respectful and abide by the lease agreement. Even if you are a responsible tenant, you will be treated like a child. On multiple occasions, our parents were emailed about lease issues rather than dealing with us directly (which is laughable.)Upon moving out, we had left the house in far better shape than we had found it. However, half of our $2,000 deposit was taken without proper justification. We were billed for for leaving behind pots & pans (absolutely none were left behind.) Additional line items included cleaning of the stove top, blinds, etc. (We had replaced components of the stove top to ensure proper cleaning, & cleaned every blind by hand.) The home owner had left firewood outside of the house, and we were charged for its removal. Deposits should cover excessive wear and tear. These items do not fall under that category. At the end of the day, we were just happy to finally wash our hands of the company. We would go great lengths to avoid leasing from Duerksen again.
My family has only moved in for a few weeks now, but we are very happy with the service we have received so far. They have been friendly, efficient, accommodating, and quick to resolve a problem within the apartment. The service personnel; Jared, was fast, friendly and repaired the broken closet door well. He even did a quick check of the apartment to see if any other items needed attending. We expect that our time here will be good and that when it is time to leave, check out will be just as pleasant.01/07/16Update: we have just moved from our apartment because we found a new home to purchase. Duerksen has been extremely accomodating in helping our move from the apartment to go smoothly. In fact, they scheduled us with a walk-thru with the cleaning agency they contract with to show us the areas of the apartment that still needed some attention. I appreciated being able to go back in and clean so that we can receive our full deposit. I think it is very fair to ask for the apartment to be in pristine condition as this is what I would want moving in. They are upfront, give a very detailed list of what needs to be completed and even options on how leaving the apartment might be done. I am glad to recommend Duerksen and would not hesitate to rent with them again or recommend them to a friend.
I wish I couldnt even give them a star for the way they steal money from you as if they dont own the majority of the rentals in town.My management sold my apartments to a private investor who then managed through duerksen& associates; so I was now paying rent to them. Problem being though when my roommate and I tried breaking a lease which was documented from our last rental management; they tried to ask for a 30 day notice fee, last 30 days and termination of the lease which wouldve added to double of which was already listed on our paperwork. On top of that my unit was completely clean when check out time came, honestly looked better then when we received the unit; and duerksen and associates still charged $180 just on cleaning and labor which was unnecessary.I would never rent through these people and I have been warn by folks before. Sadly I was dragged into this one.
While my encouragement with Duerksen and Associates is not recent, I feel like I should write this review. This property management is just the worst Ive dealt with... While they have control over many of the nice apartment complexes around Corvallis, they are still a nightmare to deal with from the front desk to the associate himself... I wanted to rent an apartment with them, and after seeing the unit, I filled out the form, paid the security check fees for myself and my wife, provided a financial support letter, and gave them the letter of reference from previous owner. When every thing checked out, I was called and told that I need to write a check for double the amount of the regular security deposit stated on their website. I asked for an explanation, and requested to meet with someone in charge. I was told that I have to pay twice as much because I dont have 2 years of previous renting inside the US even though my previous apartment was year lease furnished apartment with third the security deposed asked by Duerksen. And the associate kinda bragged about Duerksen being bigger than it previously was, and that they wont change this unwritten requirement and then he said that this is not because my name is Mohammed and it is just how they do business... This is where I left their office and found a better, more affordable place in another property management...
Highly Recommended for anyone who needs a home to stay at Corvallis, Oregon! Staff was accommodating too!
Where to start, this company knows nothing about running a business. They dont know how to talk with you like a human being and have absolutely no communication skills. They WILL take your deposit no matter if you kept your house clean and are the most CORRUPT company Ive ever come in contact with in Corvallis. If you want your kids to have a good school year down here then STAY AWAY from Duerksen. These people will treat you like numbers on a piece of paper and abuse you until they clean your pockets and dignity clean. I already know that any good review on here is completely Fake and done by them to try and get their average up. Please do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY, you WILL thank me.
The Duerksens have been managing my apartments for 14 years. They do a great job!
Our experience is from the POV of a home owner that rented out our home. For the most part they did a good job of collecting rent and making sure that problems were fixed in a timely manner. Our dissatisfaction occurred when the tenants moved out and we moved in. The house was filthy when we moved in, visibly so, and it also smelled of fried foods. It was obvious that the tenants had children because there were dirty hand prints and scuffs on almost all the woodwork in the house below the 3 foot high level. Ironically, the incredibly dirty tile floor had a small placemat type advertisement for the company that had cleaned the floor. In addition to the filth there was a lot of physical damage to the home. Three curtain rods had been pulled from the walls and were hanging by their hardware from the walls. A set of vertical blinds had been destroyed. Two sets of venetian blinds were broken beyond repair and about half of them were missing the control rod to tilt the blinds. The icing on the cake was that light bulbs had been removed from several fixtures. Finally, while apparently not the responsibility of the tenant to repair, when we moved in the refrigerator, which is only a few years old, was broken and there were several drains that were clogged. At very least I think they should have let me know of these issues so I was not surprised when I moved in. When I went by their office to complain the only response I was given was, We were busy. No apology, No follow up. I understand that in a college town the transition at the end of semesters is a very busy time but if you cant handle the work load then you should either not manage so many properties of hire additional help. As a result of their incompetence we had to spend days cleaning our home rather than settling in. We are also out several hundred dollars of broken window treatments. IMO they failed on one of the most basic parts of property management. My experience goes a long way to explaining why so many of the other complaints on this thread are about lack of cleanliness.
The Duerksen folks have always been responsive and fair in my 10+ years of dealing with them. They also give back to the community, which is very admirable.
We rented from these slumlords for a hellish year. The sewage would back up into the neighbors attached duplex front yard so they would just snake it and let it happen over and over. Then we had the plumbing in our shower break three times, and on the second one evenflo made a point to tell duerksen that they thought we were sabatoging our shower because they couldn’t fix the problem. In the end they booted our neighbor on a no cause eviction (a single mom) because they didn’t like her complaining about the rotten walls and roof. They were so trashy, I can’t say it enough LOOK FOR ANOTHER RENTAL COMPANY.
The email response that I got was fast and helpful. The maintenance guy acted kind of odd when he came over to fix something and said he was having a hard time with his wife having cancer but he was way too rushed and acted like he was going to storm into our house and scared the heck out of my roommate when she answered the door. The apartments are not super repaired but the rent was pretty cheap.
Some things to note when choosing this place as a renter, the ladies in the front office will be extremely charming UNTIL you start renting with the company. Once youve signed a contract, expect all sort of understanding to be gone. Second, this rental company will force you to show your house to perspective tenants if you notify them that you will not renew your lease. This means that they will (without you being home or not) let people into your house and inspect it along with all your belongings. Just hope that no one steals your belongings when over 10-20 people are touring your house. This all occurs while you are still living in the household. Make sure you document everything including your exterior condition. Duerksen is very adamant that their low quality properties are in pristine condition when they are rented which is certainly not the case when you actually view them. My best advice is if you choose to rent from this company, be on your toes and dont let them walk on you as they will try their best to do so!
This company was a last resort when I moved to town. I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy. I was charged for all the hall lights, outdoor lights, and on sight washer and dryer without compensation until I brought it up to the office. They said Oops. The office workers were cold and unhelpful and maintenance was at an all time low. If you want to be over charged and cheated, choose this company to rent from. Save yourself!
Duerksen and Associates has been our rental management provider for about 10 years. The home was a place for my daughter when she was at OS. Then we turned it into a rental which was well cared for by the Duerksens. We were rarely without renters, our property was maintained to a high standard, any HOA issues were handled in a timely manner, and communication was never a problem. And all of this done quick and professionally for us as we were homeowners in another state. I would recommend Duerksen and Associates to anyone that needs property managment services and not hesitate to return to them if I need to in the future. I should add that our property was recently sold and all handled by Steve Duerksen. He fulfilled my selling needs and handled all of the required fixes as the process developed. I never had to leave my home in California to oversee the work to be done - Steve did it all and was so patient with all of my questions and concerns. Great company - I wish them all the best.
We are renting currently. They are the worst landlords Ive dealt with. The maintenance took over months to get fixed, they show the house while you live there, and dont reply to any messages/emails. I wouldnt recommend this to anyone. Seriously the worst Ive ever heard of. They cheat you and literally have lied to our faces. Do NOT rent from duerksen or you will regret it in the end
Lied about the condition the apartment was left. Charged my daughter and extra 140 over deposit for cleaning when we all spent the day cleaning that apartment. Said it was never touched. Lied to a different property management to keep my daughter from another place making a hassle to get her back to school for this next year. Will contact Admin, VP or owners if I have to then news outlet. This is Unprofessional and disrespectful to students going to school. Stay away!!!
The worst renters to ever deal with. Too much attitude and unfriendly.Their apartments are the oldest and most dirtiest in town.
Dureksen is a company that takes advantage of college students for not knowing their Oregon Rental laws and will violate them until the renter shows them otherwise. my home I rented from them had a collapsed pipe for over a year which would back up into the apartment once a year. It was only after the third or fourth pumper came that they decided to fix it. When they did that they had to pull the floor out which they left out for two weeks and only fixed after telling them I would contact HUD if not fixed. After they fixed it they charged me for cleaning a floor that was only 2 weeks old. Once we moved out they charged us for cleaning stuff we didn’t have such as a dishwasher. Lastly it took them almost two months to settle all these issues only after Oregon Rental code was shown to them. So to anyone think of renting from them know your law and if you need to contact the real owner of your property look through the Oregon tax records.
Ok so my fiance and our two friends are looking for 2 bedroom apartment. We found one through these guys and since we live in Coos Bay we had to fax our applications. They said we could fax our application (a week ago) and then we could come view the place today and give them the application fee. The place had been closed for lunch and reopened at 1. We got there at 1:10 and they said they arent accepting anymore applications. So we were confused and explained we had faxed our application a week ago. Well APPARENTLY they dont accept applications until the person sees the place and then they can pay the application fee. Three groups came in just a COUPLE MINUTES before us to pay to the application fee and we come in and they wont accept anymore. It wouldve been nice if they had explained this to us a WEEK AGO!! We were ready to give them 2000 down (not including app fees and other fees) to have to place. This place is horrible and we will not do any buisness with these people again.
I realize companies like this are only in it for the money, but Deurkson makes that obvious. You have to submit a maintenance request multiple times before someone actually comes and fixes whats broken, they often dont have a friendly attitude unless YOU go the extra mile to be friendly, and they obviously dont care that most of their tenants are students, because they raise their rent for each new tenant. In the property I lived in, the previous tenants were paying $1,300/month, I am paying $1,500/month, and if I wanted to renew the lease they were going to raise the rent to $1,800/month. Again, I realize this is what happens when youre renting property close to campus, and that the housing market does change, but the place I lived in is not even close to being worth $1,800/month! If youre debating between a couple places and one of them is owned by Deurkson, eliminate that one first.
Total scumbags. The paragon of unethical business. They stole my deposit and treated me like something they scraped off their shoe. It is sad that they have a virtual monopoly in a nice town like Corvallis.
Best Property Management Group ever. They really care about their tenants.
Most of these reviews are right on point. In my few interactions with the people of Duerkson they were anything but helpful. Not only did they lack sorely in customer service skills, but they almost always seemed annoyed with every time I walked in, even before saying anything. As well on one occasion they gave us a time window of when they were going to come give the house a check up and they didnt show up in that time, but rather two days later and not even in the original window. I could go on, but I dont feel the need to. So unless you are so desperate to get a place that you dont care that your landlords will exhibit extremely unprofessional proclivities then avoid Duerkson.
Very friendly staff, made me feel comfortable
This company is absolutely awful. PLEASE spare yourself from renting from them and being ripped off. They took 1,100 of our deposit and we r now in the process of pursing suing them. I called and asked why they did this and they hung up on me. They Treat everyone as third class citizens. Good luck to anyone working with this company. They are the pits and as prudy as they act, they are missing teeth lol
The maintenance was a little slow to be taken care of but they were fair when determining my deposit. The staff was very friendly to me and my family.
Besides sending someone to look at my apartment while I was still living in it (and hadnt even given my 30 days) their office is closed from 12-1. Very inconvienent. When I was locked out I had to wait in their parking lot for 20 minutes for the office to get off lunch. When I told them I had been waiting and it was inconvienent they did not care at all. Terrible customer service, I do not recommend renting from them. Also the maintenance on the units is messy, inconsistent and incomplete. It takes the maintenance people many days to loudly and badly do work that should take one day.In response to their response: they absolutely did NOT follow the law in regards to showing the apartment. They sent someone to view the unit without asking or notifying me.
Stay away from Deurksen. When you move out, They spend more than your deposit replacing carpets no matter how clean you are. Then they double charge you for the same cleaning fees. There first reaction is to get mad and yell at you if they suspect any issues just because you are in a college town. Got yelled at because I left my shoes in front of my door outside while unpacking car getting back from camping. Stay away at all costs.
Only moved in to a Duerksen rental out of desperation. Very unprofessional, they started trying to bully us by lying about city complaints (hint the city drops a note on your door first) and admitted to gossiping about an apparent issue with our yard for months without saying a word to us until we have our 30 day notice. Known around town for trumping up issues to squeeze out the whole deposit and charging you for pre-existing issues that then still dont get fixed. We also found out that our stovetop had an issue for 8 months which could have potentially started a house fire that wasnt fixed by the time we moved out.
They raised rent in the middle of a pandemic.
Horrible landlord. We cant get a response about anything run down in our house (outlets, windows, sink) BUT they wanna email us twice about outside furniture that isnt stowed properly. Jerks
Was racially profiled when I visited. If you are a person of color don’t bother with them.
Too busy. Good for them, not for me.
