Very family friendly! Fun with knowledgeable instructors. I take this with my 14 year old son and we go 3x a week and love it! They are very welcoming and willing to tech everyone at all levels. I recommend this for everyone!
An amazing karate studio!! My daughter has been training there for 11+ years. Owners are fantastic!
My daughter has been going here for some time now. She loves her instructor Brandon, but Im not sure if I want to keep continuing with Universal Kempo. I will keep my daughter in her classes for a few more weeks and see if there are any improvements. I have a few negative opinions and a few positive.Cons:-Kids do not have to wear masks. Also, instructors and some parents wear their masks under their nose which is absolutely useless.-Most nights they have the parents work with the students which does not make sense. The whole point of paying for classes is for the instructors to teach the children.-Most nights the instructor will tell stories. I know this seems nice, but it can take up most of the class and the stories are not even karate related.-MsJohnson the owner does not seem to interact with the kids. Even though she is on their website as an instructor but does not instruct or interact with anyone.- Lastly, sometimes the class feels rushed. They will do an activity for about 2 minutes and then carry on with something else.Pros:-The assistants seem great and help alot, they are also very friendly.-Great prices-They are drama free, parents and kids are very friendly.-Brandon (the instructor) is friendly and respectful with the kids and parents.
Best in Colorado Springs. I was originally located in a different system, it was good. Just not as focused or family oriented. My son trains along side myself and our relationship since being with Universal Kempo has Skyrocketed. Both Professor Johnsons do a world class job at managing the School. Attendance struggled there for a minute but they were quick to fix it. Prices are reasonable. The material is kept on a flowing cycle, and the classes are full of passion and excitement. Their Son Brandon is one of a kind with the students. Ages ranging from 4-64 Brandon makes a personal relationship with every student and instructor. All the other instructors are well skilled and bring something new and different to every class. Universal Kempo Karate has been a life Changing Decision for my son and I. 5 for 5 stars!
My two boys have been attending Universal Kempo Karate at Briargate for about 6 months now and the Johnson Family has welcomed us with open arms. The lead instructor for the little ones, Brandon Johnson, has a gift teaching children, not just Martial Arts, but also life skills such as discipline, confidence, and respect. Every visit we are met with a handshake from both Mr. and Mrs. Johnson and then Brandon has all of the kids shake the hands of every parent and visitor in the school. It is a school built on respect and I am very proud that my boys are being taught by outstanding individuals. I highly recommend this school to all ages, it truly has been a blessed experience for my family and I cant wait to see what the future holds for my children!Thank You Johnson Family!
I have been in Universal Kempo Karate for seven years now, and my experience has always been wonderful. It has taught me to be confident in myself and my abilities, which has helped me a lot in and out of karate classes. It doesnt only teach you self defense, it teaches you life skills. Universal Kempo also has great instructors that do everything they can to make sure you know how to defend yourself. I am very appreciative of the time that my instructors have spent making me the martial artist that I am today.
Our family has been going for almost 3 years now. We love the family atmosphere and the fact that we can choose which days and how many days to go each week. The instructors are very informative and teach well. I am able to move better each month. I dont know if I will ever be a black belt, but at 50, just mopping the floors is pretty impressive. I cant vouch for the electronic payment system as we pay for the year up front.
Love this school and how content they are with teaching children. It is such a wonderful atmosphere. My child has progressed in so many ways in such a short time. I am looking forward to how this all will better her as an adult. All the instructors are such a great foundation and support for my child. Both Professor Johnsons are so high spirited and child oriented while remaining professional on every level. They instructors are highly skilled and they owe a lot to the Professors Johnson.Ms Kim is awesome and always takes care of everything she is more than thorough and a perfect instructor as well.Awesome supporter of the parents too.Great work you guys! I love you guys already!!!!!!!!!1Lolita and Deja!!!!!
I started my family going to Universal Kempo Karate School 3 years ago and we have been active students ever since. They have different classes for different age brackets. Instructor Brandon does an amazing jobs with the pee-wees and always keeps them engaged and active. The family class follows the pee-wee class and is great for the juniors and adult students. The adult class is longer and goes into more detail and for the students that want a real workout, they have the Black-belt Club on Saturdays . They have classes 5 days a week to meet just about anyones schedule. My kids love it and my wife loves how it is getting her in better shape. I love the curriculum because it is well rounded and covers all aspects of martial arts. The instructors know the material well and know how to teach each student to their ability. I would recommend Universal Kempo Karate Schools to anyone and especially the Fire Station Branch on Briargate.
The instructors here are great and very knowledgeable. There is a friendly environment here and the instructors take time to ensure that everyone understands what is being done. The school here is worth every minute/dollar spent here. The Black belt class held on Saturdays is very intense and a lot of fun, I am almost sorry that it is only two hours long.
My son takes Karate here but they have just taken in my whole family. I dont know who is more excited to go my son or my 2 daughters? This is definitely a family friendly atmosphere and we love it.
Universal Kempo Karate is a great place for all ages to learn how to defend themselves and get in some exercise as well. The curriculum is well rounded and practical, and the instructors really know their stuff. In addition to providing quality training, I really feel that the faculty at Fire Station branch seriously care about their students and their families-- they honestly want to see their students grow and succeed in martial arts AND in life outside of training. It truly feels like a safe place to be both in terms of physical safety and being a judgement-free zone. 10/10!
Our whole family has trained at Universal Kempo for years and I highly recommend it to everyone. I love seeing my kids gain confidence and strength while having a great time. The school focuses on effective self-defense, physical fitness, and character development. The instructors are phenomenal and the curriculum is unbeatable.
I love that you can get a great workout with amazing people and learn highly effective self defense. My entire family trains here. It is great for all ages. I highly recommend this school.
We build mobile applications for many Martial Arts schools. When we started working with Universal kempo Karate, we noticed what an awesome staff and facility they have. Everyone is professional and love to teach and help. While we were there we saw the students who come to the school were very happy and excited to be there. We are glad we are able to further help by connecting universal kempo karate to the students with the Mobile App.
Our experience with Universal Kempo Karate has been wonderful. I would recommend this school to all families. Best thing I ever did for my kids.
This is a great school! They teach effective self-defense, physical fitness and promote good moral character. You cant go wrong with Universal Kempo-Karate.
A solid, well rounded style of martial arts. I have been training with this school for over four years now and have learned so much. Real world defense techniques for real world situations, grappling, weapon instruction, traditional forms, and so on. The instructors are all great and have become a second family to me; I always feel welcomed and supported. This is my second style. My first style focused mainly on simple forms, hip and shoulder tosses, and tournament style fighting. It couldnt even begin to compete with universal kempo.
I absolutely love training at the Fire Station branch of Universal Kempo. All of the instructors are outstanding and the students here have become like family.
Learning was not progressing and was very kid ish. My daughter wanted to leave. Told Mr Johnson and then had nothing but problems getting them to stop billing us. Couldnt get Mr Johnson to call us back or email. Reading last review was almost word for word how I felt.
I love this school. This is my families second home. The instructors are the best.
I have a great experience training with all the friendly people involved. The instructors are hands on and committed to everyones advancement. A clean and comfortable environment.
I love coming to kempo karate. It helps me defend myself and it also helps get physical activity. An easy 5 stars!
Ive trained here for more than 15 years. Excellent instructors, excellent classes.
This school is an absolute scam. My family and I attended for two years. Paid through automatic payment. When it was time to PCS told the instructors three different ways we were leaving; to please stop the auto pay. Head instructor gave me lip service that he was taking care of it. Took him at his word that he would terminate the contract. Out last day was 15 June. Would you believe, that the third party biller Educational Fund is still trying to pull money from our account? Mr. Johnson has made himself hard to contact since our departure. Thats around 360 dollars every every month I have to dispute with my bank. His son Brandon is a good person, but the rest see you as dollar signs. It was easy to start the payments, why is it so hard to stop the payments after I legitimately left as a military transfer? Be wary of Universal Kempo Karate at Briargate. As a follow-up; Kempo Karates third party biller Educational Fund Company is based out of Chevy Chase, Maryland. They are indeed a mom and pop operation headed by a shady character named Raj. I have contacted the Maryland State Attorney General for consumer affairs in regards to them. They store your account information and continue to pull from your account. Mr. Johnson assured my wife that the billing cycle was a month behind. Mrs Johnson told us the billing cycle was even with the month. Which is it? When we left we were told by both Mr.and Mrs. that the other had taken care of it. This was not the case as I received bills 3 months later. They ask you to buy sparring equipment for your child. We used it 4 times in 2 years. The children had been working on the same 2 moves; push the coconut and peel the banana for 2 years? At 360 a month? You can register your child in a safety class for much less. However, my wife was drawn in by the promise of a family atmosphere and personal touch. She regrets being taken in by charlatans. You do however get to vicariously live through the instructors while they regale you with tales of Hawaiian vacations and Las Vegas conventions.
I love this school everyone there is nice and I learn a whole lot. Thanks universal kempo karate!
That Kenpo is closed and outta buisness
We attend the children classrs. The instruders are very patient with the kids, and they are very nice and full of energy, they have taughtt my child self esteme and self defense.and the concordance my daughter has now is wonderful..Thank you to the staff of Kempo..
Kempo has really helped me expand my knowledge on combat and has helped me on my discipline. I love it
Mr. Johnson is a wonderful instructor and I would highly recommend this school!
I went for 5 years from age 9-14 and got my Junior Blackbelt at the Filmore banch in CO SPNGS, nearly 10 years later I am still able to remember and live the values that the school sets. This was a very good experience for me and I am so glad that I did it and hope to go back into martial arts before I get too old. For children I think that this type of organized activity is better for growth and maturity development than anyother organized activity.
Great teachers and a great program for their students.
Great family environment and learn Karate too
