The most beautiful place to feel relaxed and energized in the present moment that we are going through.
Clean and centrally located. Thats really all im looking for in a gym these days. They have pretty much every machine you would need.
This gym is awesome- great trainers, clean and big space, nice equipment. Owner really cares about his members and is thoughtful in his business decisions. Would strongly recommend!
Great spot, open 24 hours, always clean and usually not overly crowded, never have to wait for machines or treadmills
One of the most fun and hardcore boxes I have ever experienced. Came in for a drop-in and was very happy with the WOD and instructor. Despite the fact the Saturday class was huge, there was plenty of equipment and space without overcrowding. Being in downtown Chicago, you will always have a large variety of drop-ins from all over the world, which makes things very interesting and unique.
Awesome drip in experience! Thanks Taylor for a great class!
Great (former) CrossFit gym
The workout space is fantastic but its the people and community that make this place special. All of the coaches go the extra mile to help athletes achieve their performance and fitness goals. whether its helping with nutrition, meal prep, stretching, tips for recovery, advice on how to loose/lean or gain, or spending time teaching you how to do a specific movement - they are always accessible and willing to help. I have been a member here for a little under two years and absolutely love it. the workouts are varied and tailored so that people of all fitness levels can have fun and participate. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone interested in cross fit or improving their level of fitness
Best box in the South Loop of Chicago, hands down! The coaching staff is both knowledgeable and attentive. The owners, who are ever present, truly care about the community and this serves as the foundation of a truly inclusive community. The physical location is spacious and well equipped. If you are looking for an positive community with best-in-class training, you will find it at South Loop Crossfit!
This box has everything one could ask for. State of the art equipment-check. Coaches who are seasoned in their craft-check. Members are friendly and supportive-check. Showers/bathrooms are clean and smell wonderful-double check. SLSC is the gold standard!! Take my word for it and go!!
Extremely knowledgeable coaches and an amazing community - you cant ask for much more from a gym and SLSC definitely delivers. The amount of support and attention the coaches give you is better than Ive seen at any other gym. The community is both inspiring and welcoming, which makes the experience that much better. Whether youre a total newbie (like I was!) or have been training for years, South Loop Strength and Conditioning is the best place to be.
Great gym to visit as a traveller. They had a ton of information online so I was prepared ahead of time with the waiver and payment. While there the coaches and athletes were friendly and helpful. Wonderful find!
Ive been going to Todd and crew @ South Loop for the past couple of months now. Ive switched in and out of other gyms the past 5 years, but have stayed here due to the small to medium sized classes. Instructors are laid back yet still press you without feeling uncomfortable. Id recommend this place to anyone looking for an alternative to the typical national/regional gym
The best programming for CF in town. Great equipment, fantastic coaching, and a very vibrant community. You might as well join.
Visited from out of town for a week. Unlimited week pass was $70. Good size box with great equipment. I liked the programming and the coaches were welcoming.
SLSC has been an amazing crossfit home! I love the coaches and community. I have made great friends here who push me to be better. The programming is a good mix of strength and conditioning, and they truly tailor it to the members. They also offer lots of individual coaching and programming if you feel that you need something a little different or extra. Overall this is the best gym in Chicago!
Excellent place to train! As someone who has been consistent with fitness for over a decade I can say that this is the best gym I have been to in that time. Highly recommended from someone who went to this box for nearly a year.
I have to admit - I was a CrossfFt skeptic. Having worked in the fitness industry in my past life, the lack of good coaches and protocol at many boxes really frightened me. But when I moved to Chicago, I was looking for a home gym, and I decided to give it a shot. Im a converter. The coaches, and I do mean all of them, are phenomenal. I kept expecting a class where I didnt feel I was getting corrected or pushed to the right level (aka, too far), but it never happened. Join for the coaches, stay for the workouts. You wont regret it. I didnt.
I dont live near this gym but make the trek because there isnt a better gym out there! They have the best coaches and there is an overall friendly and supportive atmosphere. The classes are great with lots of times to choose from.
Friendly gym, a wide range of equipment, and plenty of space. Tape & chalk provided. There is an upper loft great for cool downs.
SLSC was one of the best fitness decisions of my life. All the coaches there are top notch and they truly care about your development. They do a great job of creating a fun environment for everyone.
If you are in the loop you must drop in and checkout the SLCF facility. Coaches are awesome and the members make you feel like youre at home!! I would give 6 out of 5 stars. Keep up the good work.
The difference between a regular gym and a place like SLSC is difficult to overstate. Ive always been intimidated by working out—I used to get nervous every time before I left for the gym. Todd and the other coaches are so cool and smart and welcoming that I love working out now. I went from being clueless to being someone who can advise my friends on fitness stuff. And now working out is the best part of my day!6 out of 5 stars!! :)
I have had the pleasure of spending some time at South Loop Strength & Conditioning with Todd and his team. The gym is not your typical chain type gym with treadmills and machines everywhere, it is new and innovative and offers group classes and well as private coaching and nutritional counseling. At first I was hesitant about a cossfit atmosphere (I had a previous hip injury and have to be mindful of what Im doing), but my concerns were quickly put to rest within just a few minutes of stepping inside the building and taking a class.Todd is extremely knowledgeable and passionate and can evaluate what you are doing and give you ways to improve your form and ways to get the most out of your workout. He is able to tailor a routine to any individual that will best fit their health and fitness goals. As I chiropractor I highly recommend Todd and his team of trainers! If you are feeling stuck in your routine or seem to have reached a plateau in your workouts and progress, or just looking for a change, South Loop Cross Fit is the place to go!
Out of the hundreds of CrossFit gyms in the city, I chose the furthest one from my house because South Loop Strength and Conditioning (“SLSC”) is the real deal and only gym in the city that has all owners and coaches deeply committed to its members. The coaches are fully engaged in the classes and continue to advance their knowledge base through certifications and regular trainings. I’m lucky to have found a great community of friends within the gym who inspire me to become a better version of myself. SLSC is definitely the place you want to be!
Todd Nief is an incredible trainer. He makes CrossFit accessible to those of us (like me) who are intimidated by it but still want to try it. The best part is that when you go to SLSC, you are surrounded by strong men and women who also smile, showing you that there is a lot of commitment by the clientele because they enjoy the staff, equipment and environment. I feel stronger and stronger every time I work out with Todd. I would recommend this gym and especially Todds training to anyone.
Excellent place for crossfit
SLSCs experienced coaches, innovative programming, and multifaceted approach to fitness and working out will help you meet whatever goals youre working towards. CrossFit is consistently challenging when youre doing it right, and even though some days feel harder than others, my output has increased by orders of magnitude and Ive never had a bad training day at SLSC. The people here are tight and treat each other like a family. Highly recommended.
Favorite Crossfit box in the area, hands-down. Staff is attentive and very involved. They know your name after one class. I appreciate the level of know land quality of training at SLSC.
Nice facility. Spacious. Has showers. Very friendly community.
On my trip to Chicago I almost didnt go to this crossfit only because I thought I picked 3 better ones to visit. Then my last day I popped in on a walk and commenced myself to do one more workout. The best way I can explain it is that this box is what crossfit is ment to be. Everything was amazing from the front desk, clean bathrooms, friendly members, to the coaching and facilitys. If I could go back I would have worked out my full week there. It might not mean much from me, but if you can make a small town guy in the middle of the city feel at home, your doing something right.
I dont crossfit, but needed a place to train while briefly in Chicago. Great facility, plenty of racks, plenty of bars, plenty of plates. Courteous staff while being unobtrusive. Ill train here again when in Chicago
I recommend this place to anyone looking for a crossfit box to get started or progress in their training. The staff and ownership is highly knowledgable, the facility is clean, well maintained, and well equipped, and the community positive and welcoming. Ive done a lot of different fitness modalities and been a member of several crossfit boxes, and I can tell you this is a really good one.
This gym has totally changed my life. 8 weeks ago, I signed up for their 6 week womens crossfit challenge. Having never really worked out in a gym environment before, I was a little intimidated at first.I was honestly shocked even just on the first day at how welcoming and accepting everyone was! The coaches are wonderful. I am so impressed with their ability to help beginners like me learn from the ground up. It was good to step out of my comfort zone, but I never once felt like I was pushed too far. They are extremely detail-oriented and want to make sure you are learning all the technical skills properly, so you are in great hands! After the six week challenge was up, I signed up for the monthly membership immediately! Honestly, there are other crossfit gyms much closer to my house. But I drive from the opposite end of the city because I love this place and all the people there, coaches and members! Theres an undeniable family environment and the open, accepting atmosphere is contagious. After the challenge, I continue to be impressed with the coaches and their hands-on training. They take the time to get to know each individuals strengths and weaknesses, and are excellent at what they do.Signing up for South Loop was the best decision Ive ever made! Cant wait to see where Im at one year from now, and its all thanks to this wonderful place!
Love my box. Period. Always getting better.
Ive been to numerous Crossfit gyms in the city and this one is hands down the best. The coaches take pride in their product and focus on making sure that everybodys form and technique is right. The space is super cool and huge and the community is hands down top notch. So many impressive athletes and olympic lifters in this gym - its hard not to be motivated to push yourself harder!
Among the best coaches in all of Illinois. Todd and company are passionate, intelligent, and committed.
Great coaching, great people. Have a visit and see for yourself.
Lots of quality space, equipment and caring trainers to guide and encourage you to achieve and possibly exceed your goals.
I have been working out at SLCF for over a year now and it has been an awesome journey of fitness. I still check their blog every night to see what Todd has in store for the workout the next day. With the constant variation and trackable results I am always excited to go to the gym.The coaches are very knowledgable about all aspects of fitness and in a short time the coaches and other athletes become like a second family.
Ive been going to SLSC for about 3 months now, and I feel spoiled. There is a wide range in skill among members, so when I joined I felt completely comfortable, while also excited to be in an environment with more competitive athletes. The facility is huge, equipment is top notch, & the coaches are amazing. Olympic lifting classes on mon/thurs are my favorite, would recommend to anyone at any level :)
TL;DR - 3 months into my first Crossfit gym experience, SLSC has exceeded my every expectation.Ill add my voice to the chorus of others saying laudatory things about South Loop Strength & Conditioning. My background: played team sports my whole life through college (Division 3). College ended and I had a few brief, unproductive stints with normal gyms. For some, they work great. Im probably less self-motivated and just really enjoy working out with a group. I was reluctant to try Crossfit for the same reason many are: it aint cheap. In my case, I took the plunge on their no-commitment monthlong trial and, at the end, couldnt think of not continuing. Its my first real Crossfit experience and so I have less to say in comparison to other boxes. I will say, amongst other members with experience at other boxes, the prevailing opinion seems to be that this is a top notch business. My experience has been consistent with that.Specifically:1. Commitment - The owners are around, present, approachable, and genuinely seem to care about the members beyond just collecting dues. They seem to do doing it the right way and building a place that people will want to stay with for the long term.2. Knowledge - Coaches, owners, and other experienced members seem educated and committed to not only teaching, but teaching the right way. They stress safety and form, knowing that once those are in place the results inevitable follow.3. Versatility - There is a range of fitness and experience levels here, and they do a really good job of helping you get out whatever you want to put in. Crossfit games ambitions? Great. Busy with work and want to pop in a couple of times per week to blow off steam and stay healthy? Theyve got you there, too.4. Community - As a first-timer, I was naturally a little unsure. Owners, coaches, and members are universally friendly and approachable. They really made a new guy feel welcomed.5. Results - Its easiest to improve when youve been drinking beer on the couch for six years, as I had been, but even after 3 months Im seeing very tangible results basically just by showing up and doing as told.
Todd, Paul and John are fantastic. I joined Southloop crossfit to get in shape and find a fun comfortable atmosphere to workout. Southloop crossfit more than delivered. I have learned so much about crossfit and I am more fit than I have ever been. If you are just getting started on your fitness journey or someone who is more advance these guys are great. I highly recommend Southloop crossfit, gym or box, new to crossfit or experienced give them a try.
If you take your health and fitness serious, then SLSC is the place to take that to the next level. The programming here is one of the best. The coaches here really care about helping each member achieve their goals. Todd Nief, part owner of SLSC is extremely knowledge and does a great job enlightening his coaches and members. I wouldnt trade the knowledge or experience that Ive encountered here for anything. I have become a better athlete and coach because of the coaches and members at SLSC. This is one of the hidden gems in the city of Chicago.
The owners of South Loop Crossfit, Todd and Paul, are a couple of the best crossfit coaches I have ever come across in all my years of doing crossfit. Not only do they live and breathe crossfit every minute of every day, they care about the craft and art of coaching which is an ever rarer thing these days as crossfit gyms sprout up seemingly everywhere. They maintain an open and inviting facility and work hard to build the trust of their members from the inexperienced newbie to the seasoned crossfit veteran. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking to start crossfit or looking to take their current level of crossfit training to the next level.
There are a thousand different gyms and fitness fads out there. Most of it is crap. None of the noise or marketing or Reebok commercials will get you in shape. The single most important thing you want from a gym – any gym you decide to give your hard-earned dollars – is to have highly qualified trainers who understand (and respect) your fitness goals, who can create and help execute a plan to achieve those goals safely and efficiently. Simple, but rare.Enter South Loop Crossfit.I’ve participated in a lot of sports over the years. I’ve spent time in a lot of gyms, with lots of trainers. The training I’m getting at South Loop Crossfit is as tough and rewarding as anything I’ve ever done. I’ve never seen a group of trainers as tuned-in to their athletes (SLCF doesn’t care for the word “clients”) as Todd, Kevin, Paul, Nehemiah and the rest of the South Loop crew. They know each of our strengths and weakness, they know when to push and when to hold us back or substitute out an exercise in one of the daily workouts. While there is no shortage of crossfit gyms that let people throw weights around recklessly, the Olympic lifts require training and technique. The South Loop coaches aren’t about doing it heavy, until you’re doing it right. That’s what you want.I also have to say, after years and years of mostly lifting on my own and finding most gym people to be annoying, the group class environment is pretty great. Everybody jokes around, encourages each other, and commiserates over particularly tough workouts. And it’s a pretty good mix of former and current athletes and folks who have just decided its time to get off the couch and into the gym.If you are looking for a gym in Chicago, put the Cheetos down and get to South Loop Crossfit.
Great box great instructions Todd knowers his stuff
