This was a good find for me. After attempts at trying others, And not being satisfied. I happened upon Ramon at Electronic Engineers. I like Vintage Stereo Products and need a place for my items when problems arise. Im waiting for recapping of my 2nd Pioneer Amp. Other shops made excuses of a recap job, Not having the time. Turn around was less than 2 weeks on a Pioneer 9500 ll. Sounds excellent. Im extremely happy. Im giving my oldest friend the Pioneer 8500 when service is completed. Of course, I have to give it a listen, before saying goodbye. Having other vintage Pioneer items. Its nice to know a place to go when a problem comes up.Wow..... Picked up the second Pioneer amp. The SA 8500. The better it sounds with each time I turn it on. I should be kicking myself in giving my buddy this amp. But I have the SA 9500 ll. Itll make things easier tho, Ill get a chance to see it when at his house. Trust me the smile Ill see when he does all the pull ins and flips the On switch. ROMAN THANKS FOR A JOB WELL DONE. OH, SORRY. MAKE THAT 2 JOBS, WELL DONE. again Thank you.
This guy was completely rude over the phone, but after seeing the reviews on google, I decided to send my product over because I thought it was enough good reviews for me. Don’t make the same mistake I did. He charged us an arm and a leg to fix our product and also took around five months to even get it back to us. After finally getting it back and plugging it in to try it out, he didn’t even fix the damn product!! Don’t waste your time or money on this guy.
Would rate higher if he was able to fix anything that I brought in. I had a Rotel amp he said he could fix. After a month he admitted he didnt have a manual. After 6 weeks I took it back to find a better shop. Not very responsive or helpful.
I purchased an old McIntosh amplifier from eBay. Many of the lights would not illuminate, so I bought a package of led bulbs to bring it to the local audio repair shop. My OCD kicked in and you’d swear I was trying to disarm a bomb! I brought it to Roman at Electronic Engineers Thursday 20 minutes before closing. Roman took me back and showed me some of his handy work. Roman called me Saturday at approximately 11:00am to tell me it was ready to go. It looks and sounds great!! I was desperate, so I went in with a good attitude and it must have worked! I will bring my equipment back, if I need help. I promise no more soldering irons for me.
I have known of the owner for more than 30 years. If you see some of his work you will understand he is a craftsman and very talented. I am a service person too so I know of what he comes up against- not everything you bring in is an easy fix and those can take time.
Roman is a genius.
I love these guys. So few people do this work anymore that it is great to find a couple that are so competent, complete, and reasonable. That being said, they arent warm and fuzzy fellows, and there may be a things to which they turn up their nose, but lets be honest, many old electronics arent worth fixing.Listen to what they say. They are telling you the truth. Dont take their tone personally.
One of the best store front places I know about to bring a tape machine to. Quick work and much cheaper than Deltronics which is where most people will tell you to go.As for the people below complaining about phone etiquette, best not to try and get pricing/details from repair people because there are no answers until they can look at it and see whats wrong. Bring it in, and go from there!
I have a High End Stereo including a Very Nice Turntable and have taken my components to these folks for over 10 years and they always come back Like New or even Better. I WILL ALWAYS TAKE MY ELECTRONICS TO Electronic Engineers on Belmont!!! They are Professional and Perfectionist and always call with an estimate. My Receiver is a Scott and quite old but really nice and they are always able to find the parts needed to bring it back to New Specs. These folks are fantastice
The electronic engineer running this place is probably best on the northwest side of Chicago. He is a electronics engineer not a concierge. And he will not BS you on what is what. 30$ diagnostics fee, cash only.
Well, I didnt have to take my equipment in---after a quick phone consultation with them, I discovered I might not need to. The track and volume buttons on my old AIWA carry component system were all going haywire. He suggested I see if the same buttons on the remote control (which I never use) worked. They did! Happy Almost Customer!
Worst ever experience with this place! Do Not Recommend it! The owner kept on delaying and delaying and never repaired product. These people have an attitude problem and need customer service skills. Very unprofessional, unskilled, not friendly at all. Took money and did not repair product . Very disappointed with their service!
Great job on my Mac c-28 and 2200. Didnt realize how much sound I was missing until Roman replaced the caps and cleaned it!!!
Just talking to this guy on the phone was enough to know I didnt want anything to do with them. His attitude said it all. I phoned to say I had a couple of bookshelf speakers that needed repair & wanted to get an idea if it might be worth repairing them or if the cost might be more than what the speakers are worth. All he kept repeating was that they charge a $30 diagnostic fee.I asked, from their experience with speaker repair, what kind of price range I might expect, acknowledging that it would obviously depend on the problem. He wouldnt give me a range, then HUNG UP ON ME as I was talking to him!
They had a piece of equipment of mine for about a year. I made several countless phone calls only to get reasons for delay, I was told countless times give me another week, give me another week they had my piece of equipment a Mcintosh C 39 since December 2015, I made the trip from Iowa to Chicago because after I asked him to never-mind, just ship my item back ...again I was given excuses as to why it wasnt shipped yet. I was going to have to pay shipping so I weighed out the options to make the drive with my family. The employees were just as rude and inconsiderate in person as they were on the phone throughout the course of this transaction that was coming up on a year.I did get my item back, it was totally disassembled, a total lossThis was my experience with this company good luck.
If you do your work well and the price is right then everything else is secondary. The 30 dollar diagnostic fee is nothing. I live in the Bay Area now and Champlifier charges $140 service fee alone. Dude prob gets frustrated with everyone trying to call on the phone and want a price range off the bat without bringing it in. If you care about your audio gear make the trip and drop the $30. Just know it’s a smaller shop and it can take time for parts and service.
I dont know how good Roman really is. I took an Aragon X5 5ch amplifier to have a couple loose binding posts fixed after the shoe holding them broke. He replaced the shoe 95% identical to the other four ones. It was a simple job. I am from Europe and I can put up with people that dont communicate well expecting good/better service instead. I dont expect being romanced. That would scare me off. So I guess Roman is the whole package. In the mean time he fixed my binding posts that Audio Consultants in Evanston refused to fix.
Absolutely direspectful. I wouldnt recommend anyone waste their time with this man. Horrible service horrible attitude horrible language
Very nice staff, may take a little while for repairs but it’s because they are doing the job right. Will use them again.
I took my jvc rc -550jw boombox to them some years ago to restore the fm and treble, when i picked up my radio from them nothing was repaired. So this year i took it to martroy Electronics and they got it right the first time
Taking to Carlos on the phone was ridiculous. Very unprofessional and rude. He does not care about the customer or the work - only wants your money and will not even honor any time commitments. BEWARE!
To answer a second review. We dont have any Carlos work in the shop, and never had.Customer must be confusing as with somebody else.Roman Sokolov.
